A detailed study of the pH‐ and sugar‐responsive behavior of poly(3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid pinacol ester)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PAPBAE‐b‐PDMA) block copolymers is presented. Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of the pinacol ester of 3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid resulted in homopolymers with molecular weights between 12,000 and 37,000 g/mol. The resulting homopolymers were employed as macro‐chain transfer agents during the polymerization of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMA). Successful chain extension and removal of the pinacol protecting groups to yield poly(3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid)‐b‐PDMA (PAPBA‐b‐PDMA) with free boronic acid moieties resulted in pH‐ and sugar‐responsive block copolymers that were subsequently investigated for their behavior in aqueous solution. The PAPBA‐b‐PDMA block copolymers were capable of solution self‐assembly due to the PAPBA block being water‐insoluble below its pKa. The resulting aggregates were demonstrated to solubilize and release model hydrophobic compounds, as demonstrated by fluorescence studies. Dissociation of the aggregates was induced by raising the pH above the pKa of the boronic acid residues or by adding sugars capable of forming boronate esters. Aggregate size, dissociation kinetics, and the effect of various sugars were considered. The critical sugar concentration needed to induce aggregate dissociation was tuned by incorporation of hydrophilic DMA units within the PAPBA responsive segment to yield PDMA‐b‐poly(3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid‐co‐DMA) block copolymers. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of thermoresponsive double hydrophilic (AB)(n) multiblock and ABA triblock copolymers of N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA) and N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) with varying sequence lengths were synthesized via successive reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerizations by employing polytrithiocarbonate as the chain transfer agent. Previously, we reported that multiblock copolymers in dilute aqueous solutions can form either unimolecular or multimolecular micelles at elevated temperatures depending on the relative chain lengths of PDMA and PNIPAM sequences (Zhou et al. Langmuir 2007, 23, 13076-13084). In this follow-up work, we further explored and compared the chain architectural (multiblock vs triblock) and Hofmeister effects (addition of various sodium salts) on the gelation behavior of multiblock and ABA triblock copolymers at high concentrations and attempted to establish a correlation between the aggregation behavior and gelation properties of multiblock copolymers at low and high polymer concentrations, respectively. It was found that only m-PDMA(p)-PNIPAM(q) multiblock copolymers with PDMA and PNIPAM sequence lengths located within a specific range can form physical gels at elevated temperatures. Rheology measurements revealed that multiblock copolymers possess considerably lower critical gelation temperatures (CGT) and higher gel storage modulus, G'(gel), as compared to those of PNIPAM-b-PDMA-b-PNIPAM triblock copolymers possessing comparable sequence lengths. The addition of inorganic sodium salts can effectively facilitate thermogelling for multiblock and triblock copolymers, resulting in decreasing CGTs and critical gelation concentrations (CGCs) in the order of Hofmeister series with increasing hydration capabilities. The unique thermogelling behavior of aqueous multiblock copolymer solutions in the absence and presence of inorganic salts, as compared to that of ABA triblock copolymers, augurs well for their potential applications in various fields such as biomaterials and biomedicines.  相似文献

The polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine was conducted in the presence of a cyclic trithiocarbonate (4,7‐diphenyl‐[1,3]dithiepane‐2‐thione) as a reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization agent, and a multiblock polymer with narrow‐polydispersity blocks was prepared. Two kinds of multiblock copolymers of styrene and 4‐vinylpyridine, that is, (ABA)n multi‐triblock copolymers with polystyrene or poly(4‐vinylpyridine) as the outer blocks, were prepared with multiblock polystyrene or poly(4‐vinylpyridine) as a macro‐RAFT agent, respectively. GPC data for the original polymers and polymers cleaved by amine demonstrated the successful synthesis of amphiphilic multiblock copolymers of styrene and 4‐vinylpyridine via two‐step polymerization. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined triblock copolymers, poly(N, N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(N, N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐PEO‐b‐PDMA) synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization, were used as physical coatings for protein separation. A comparative study of EOF showed that the triblock copolymer presented good capillary coating ability and EOF efficient suppression. The effects of the Mr of PDMA block in PDMA‐b‐PEO‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer and buffer pH on the separation of basic protein for CE were investigated. Moreover, the influence of the copolymer structure on separation of basic protein was studied by comparing the performance of PDMA‐b‐PEO‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer with PEO‐b‐PDMA diblock copolymer. Furthermore, the triblock copolymer coating showed higher separation efficiency and better migration time repeatability than fused‐silica capillary when used in protein mixture separation and milk powder samples separation, respectively. The results demonstrated that the triblock copolymer coatings would have a wide application in the field of protein separation.  相似文献

Synthesis of the ABA triblock copolymer nanoparticles of poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA) by seeded RAFT polymerization is performed, and the effect of the introduced third poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) block on the size and morphology of the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer nanoparticles is investigated. This seeded RAFT polymerization affords the in situ synthesis of the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA core‐corona nanoparticles, in which the middle solvophobic PS block forms the compacted core, and the first solvophilic PDMA block and the introduced third PDMA block form the solvated complex corona. During the seeded RAFT polymerization, the introduced third PDMA block extends, and the molecular weight of the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer linearly increases with the monomer conversion. It is found that, the size of the PS core in the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer core‐corona nanoparticles is almost equal to that in the precursor of the poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐block‐polystyrene diblock copolymer core‐corona nanoparticles and it keeps constant during the seeded RAFT polymerization, and whereas the introduction of the third PDMA block leads to a crowded complex corona on the PS core. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The syntheses of {‐poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA)‐b‐polyisobutylene (PIB)‐}n multiblock copolymers were accomplished for the first time by chain extension of PLLA‐b‐PIB‐b‐PLLA triblock copolymers. Well‐defined PLLA‐b‐PIB‐b‐PLLA triblock copolymers with predictable Mns, low PDIs (1.10–1.18) and excellent blocking efficiencies were prepared by anionic ring‐opening polymerizations of L ‐lactide initiated with hydroxyallyl telechelic PIB (HO‐Allyl‐PIB‐Allyl‐OH) in toluene at 110 °C. The triblock copolymers were successfully chain extended with 4,4′‐methylenebis(phenylisocyanate) (MDI) to obtain the multiblock copolymers with good gravimetric yields of ~86 to 96%. The chain‐extended polymers were soluble in a range of common organic solvents. The block copolymers showed two glass transition temperatures in differential scanning calorimetric analysis for the PIB and PLLA blocks indicating microphase separation, which was supported by atomic force microscopy images. The as‐synthesized compression molded multiblock copolymers exhibited tensile strengths in the range of 8–24 MPa with elongations at break in the range of 2.5–400%. The static and dynamic mechanical properties showed a strong dependence on the relative PLLA content in the copolymer. The dynamic mechanical analysis also indicated microphase separation at higher PLLA compositions. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3490–3505, 2009  相似文献

Aqueous RAFT polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) mediated with hydrophilic macro‐RAFT agent is generally used to prepare poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM)‐based block copolymer. Because of the phase transition temperature of the block copolymer in water being dependent on the chain length of the PNIPAM block, the aqueous RAFT polymerization is much more complex than expected. Herein, the aqueous RAFT polymerization of NIPAM in the presence of the hydrophilic macro‐RAFT agent of poly(dimethylacrylamide) trithiocarbonate is studied and compared with the homogeneous solution RAFT polymerization. This aqueous RAFT polymerization leads to the well‐defined poly(dimethylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐PNIPAM‐b‐PDMA) triblock copolymer. It is found, when the triblock copolymer contains a short PNIPAM block, the aqueous RAFT polymerization undergoes just like the homogeneous one; whereas when the triblock copolymer contains a long PNIPAM block, both the initial homogeneous polymerization and the subsequent dispersion polymerization are involved and the two‐stage ln([M]o/[M])‐time plots are indicated. The reason that the PNIPAM chain length greatly affects the aqueous RAFT polymerization is discussed. The present study is anticipated to be helpful to understand the chain extension of thermoresponsive block copolymer during aqueous RAFT polymerization. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic triblock copolymers [polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether]‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (mPEG‐b‐PCL‐b‐PDMAEMA or abbreviated as mPEG‐b‐PCL‐b‐PDMA) were prepared by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization. The chemical structures and compositions of these copolymers have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis. The molecular weights of the triblock copolymers were obtained by calculating from 1H NMR spectra and gel permeation chromatography measurements. Subsequently, the self‐assembly behavior of these copolymers was investigated by fluorescence probe method and transmission electron microscopy, which indicated that these amphiphilic triblock copolymers possess distinct pH‐dependent critical aggregation concentrations and can self‐assemble into micelles or vesicles in PBS buffer solution, depending on the length of PDMA in the copolymer. Agarose gel retardation assays demonstrated that these cationic nanoparticles can effectively condense plasmid DNA. Cell toxicity tests indicated that these triblock copolymers displayed lower cytotoxicity than that of branched polyethylenimine with molecular weight of 25 kDa. In addition, in vitro release of Naproxen from these nanoparticles in pH buffer solutions was conducted, demonstrating that higher PCL content would result in the higher drug loading content and lower release rate. These biodegradable and biocompatible cationic copolymers have potential applications in drug and gene delivery. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) block copolymers were synthesized by using PDMS macroinitiators with copper-mediated living radical polymerization. Diamino PDMS led to initiators that gave ABA block copolymers, but there was low initiator efficiency and molecular weights are somewhat uncontrolled. The use of mono- and difunctional carbinol–hydroxyl functional initiators led to AB and ABA block copolymers with narrow polydispersity indices (PDIs) and controlled number-average molecular weights (Mn's). Polymerization with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) was discovered with a range of molecular weights produced. Polymerizations proceeded with excellent first-order kinetics indicative of living polymerization. ABA block copolymers with MMA were prepared with between 28 and 84 wt % poly(methyl methacrylate) with Mn's between 7.6 and 35 K (PDI <1.30), which show thermal transitions characteristic of block copolymers. ABA block copolymers with DMAEMA led to amphiphilic block copolymers with Mn's between 9.5 and 45.7 K (PDIs of 1.25–1.70), which formed aggregates in solution with a critical micelle concentration of 0.1 g dm−3 as determined by pyrene fluorimetry experiments. Monocarbinol functional PDMS gave AB block copolymers with both MMA and DMAEMA. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 39: 1833–1842, 2001  相似文献

A series of ABA triblock copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and dodecyl methacrylate (DMA) [poly(MMA‐b‐DMA‐b‐MMA)] (PMDM) were synthesized by Ru‐based sequential living radical polymerization. For this, DMA was first polymerized from a difunctional initiator, ethane‐1,2‐diyl bis(2‐chloro‐2‐phenylacetate) with combination of RuCl2(PPh3)3 catalyst and nBu3N additive in toluene at 80 °C. As the conversion of DMA reached over about 90%, MMA was directly added into the reaction solution to give PMDM with controlled molecular weight (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2). These triblock copolymers showed well‐organized morphologies such as body centered cubic, hexagonal cylinder, and lamella structures both in bulk and in thin film by self‐assembly phenomenon with different poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) weight fractions. Obtained PMDMs with 20–40 wt % of the PMMA segments showed excellent electroactive actuation behaviors at relatively low voltages, which was much superior compared to conventional styrene‐ethylene‐butylene‐styrene triblock copolymer systems due to its higher polarity derived from the methacrylate backbone and lower modulus. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The hydrolytic degradation of a series of poly‐L ‐lactide (PLLA)‐polyisobutylene (PIB) multiblock copolymers was studied in phosphate buffer solution (pH = 7.4) at 37 °C. The multiblock copolymers were synthesized by chain extension of PLLA‐b‐PIB‐b‐PLLA triblock copolymers, which were obtained by ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide initiated by hydroxyallyl telechelic PIB. The degradation strongly depended on the PLLA segment length. At constant PIB segment length, the multiblock copolymer with the shortest PLLA segment length (DPn = 10), showed significant weight loss after 8 weeks, whereas weight loss for DPn = 36 was only observed after 24 weeks. The gel‐permeation chromatographic analysis showed a similar decrease in the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) with time further supporting the weight loss data. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed a decrease in ultimate stress and modulus with time. The crystallinity of multiblock copolymers changed significantly with degradation time as indicated from differential scanning calorimetric analysis. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Perfectly‐alternating linear (AB)n multiblock copolymers consist of n AB block pairs covalently linked in an alternating sequence. Although these copolymers can microphase‐order in the same fashion as their lower‐order (n = 1) diblock analogs, the 2(n ? 1) biconformational midblocks comprising each copolymer molecule have a considerable impact on microstructural characteristics and bulk properties. We have applied transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and extensional rheometry to examine and compare the morphologies and properties of two series of compositionally symmetric (lamellar) poly(styrene‐b‐isoprene)n (SI)n (1 ≤ n ≤ 4) multiblock copolymers. In one series, chain length was held constant allowing block mass (Mb) to decrease with increasing n. In the second copolymer series, Mb remained relatively invariant. Increasing n in these two series generally promoted reductions in both the lamellar period and upper (styrenic) glass‐transition temperature, but noticeable increases in tensile modulus and yield strength. These observed trends are more pronounced in the copolymer series with constant chain length due to the coupled relationship between n and Mb. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two new telechelic amphiphilic triblock copolymers, HE3‐PEG‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PEG‐HE3 and HE3‐PEG‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PEG‐HE3, i.e., sequence‐reversed triblocks of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) segments fitted with photocrosslinkable tri[2‐(3,4‐cyclohexane oxide)ethyl‐dimethylsiloxy]silane (HE3) termini, were synthesized, characterized, photocrosslinked to amphiphilic conetworks (APCNs), and the properties of the APCNs were analyzed. APCNs in which the crosslinking sites are located in the hydrophobic domains exhibited significantly better mechanical properties than those in which the crosslinks were in the hydrophilic domains. The stiff domains formed of the UV‐crosslinkable HE3 chain‐end substituents provide not only crosslinking but reinforcement as well. The crosslinking/reinforcement efficiency was greatly enhanced by the addition of excess HE3. Water‐swollen APCNs were optically clear and exhibited mechanical properties appropriate for biomedical application. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined amphiphilic polymethylene‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(acrylic acid) (PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PAA) triblock copolymers were synthesized via a combination of polyhomologation, ring‐opening polymerization (ROP), and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, hydroxyl‐terminated polymethylenes (PM‐OH; Mn = 1100 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.09) were produced by polyhomologation followed by oxidation. Then, the PM‐b‐PCL (Mn = 10,000 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.27) diblock copolymers were synthesized via ROP of ε‐caprolactone using PM‐OH as macroinitiator and stannous octanoate (Sn(Oct)2) as a catalyst. Subsequently, the macroinitiator transformed from PM‐b‐PCL in high conversion initiated ATRPs of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) to construct PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PtBA triblock copolymers (Mn = 11,000–14,000 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.24–1.26). Finally, the PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PAA triblock copolymers were obtained via the hydrolysis of the PtBA segment in PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PtBA triblock copolymers. The chain structures of all the polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Porous films of such triblock copolymers were fabricated by static breath‐figure method and observed by scanning electron microscope. The aggregates of PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PAA triblock copolymer were studied by transmission electron microscope. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

An (AB)n-type multiblock copolymer containing alternating poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) segments was synthesized by chain extension of hydroxyltelechelic PLLA-PDMS-PLLA triblock copolymers, which were prepared by the ring-opening polymerization of l-lactide initiated by α,ω-functionalized hydroxyl poly(dimethyl siloxane), using 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate as a chain extender. The triblock and the multiblock copolymers were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR and GPC. From the results of thermal analysis, two glass transition temperatures which were measured by DSC showed the occurrence of phase separation phenomena in the triblock and multiblock copolymers because of the difference of solubility parameters between PLLA and PDMS segments. The effect of the chemical composition of the triblock copolymers, including the Mw and the constitutive segment chain length of the macrodiol, on the development of the Mw of the multiblock was discussed based on diffusion effect. Furthermore, the consumption of the isocyanate groups was determined by FT-IR to investigate the dependence of the reaction kinetics of the urethane formation on the chemical composition of the triblock copolymer. The results reveal that the order of the chain extension reaction depended on the Mw of the triblock copolymer: a second order reaction was transformed into a third reaction as the Mw of the triblock copolymer increased from 7000 to 25,000 (g/mol) perhaps because of the inhibition of the formation of an active complex involved in the catalyzed-urethane reaction by the polymer chain aggregation. Finally, the mechanical properties of the multiblock copolymers demonstrated that the introduction of the extremely flexible PDMS segment substantially improved the elongation at breakage, and the tensile strength and the tensile modulus declined due to the intrinsic elasticity of such segments.  相似文献

Well‐defined homopolymers of pentafluorophenyl acrylate (PFPA) and AB diblock copolymers of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate (PEGA) with PFPA were prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization. Three PFPA homopolymers of different molecular weights were reacted with the commercially available amidine and guanidine species histamine (HIS) dihydrochloride and L ‐arginine methyl ester (ARG) dihydrochloride in the presence of S‐methyl methanethiosulfonate to yield, quantitatively, the corresponding amidine and guanidine‐based acrylamido homopolymers. Both the HIS and ARG homopolymers are known to reversibly bind CO2 with, in the case of the former, CO2 fixation being accompanied with a switch from a hydrophobic to hydrophilic state. The RAFT synthesis of PFPA‐DMA and PEGA‐PFPA diblock copolymers yielded well‐defined materials with a range of molar compositions. These precursor materials were converted to the corresponding HIS and ARG block copolymers whose structure was confirmed using 1H NMR spectroscopy. Employing a combination of dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy, we demonstrate that the DMA‐HIS and PEGA‐HIS diblock copolymers are able to undergo reversible and cyclable self‐directed assembly in aqueous media using CO2 and N2 as the triggers between fully hydrophilic and amphiphilic (assembled) states. For example, in the case of the 54:46 DMA‐HIS diblock, aggregates with hydrodynamic diameters of about 40.0 nm are readily formed from the molecularly dissolved state. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel bifunctional acrylamido‐based reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) chain‐transfer agent (CTA), N,N′‐ethylenebis[2‐(thiobenzoylthio)propionamide] (CTA2), has been synthesized and used for the controlled free‐radical polymerization of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMA). A comparative study of CTA2 and the monofunctional CTA N,N‐dimethyl‐s‐thiobenzoylthiopropionamide (CTA1) has been conducted. Polymerizations mediated by CTA1 result in poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) homopolymers with unimodal molecular weight distributions, whereas CTA2 yields unimodal, bimodal, and trimodal distributions according to the extent of conversion. The multimodal nature of the PDMAs has been attributed to termination events and/or chains initiated by primary radicals. The RAFT polymerization of DMA with CTA2 also results in a prolonged induction period that may be attributed to the higher local concentration of dithioester functionalities early in the polymerization. A series of ω‐ and α,ω‐dithioester‐capped PDMAs have been prepared in organic media and subsequently employed as macro‐CTAs for the synthesis of diblock and triblock copolymers in aqueous media with the zwitterionic monomer 3‐[2‐(N‐methylacrylamido)‐ethyldimethylammonio] propane sulfonate (MAEDAPS). Additionally, an ω‐dithioester‐capped MAEDAPS homopolymer has been used as a macro‐CTA for the block polymerization of DMA. To our knowledge, this is the first example of a near‐monodisperse, sulfobetaine‐containing block copolymer prepared entirely in aqueous media. The diblock and triblock copolymers form aggregates in pure water that can be dissociated by the addition of salt, as determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering. In pure water, highly uniform, micellelike aggregates with hydrodynamic diameters of 71–93 nm are formed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 1262–1281, 2003  相似文献

The purpose of these studies was to combine polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyisobutylene (PIB) sequences into novel triblock, PDMS-b-PIB-b-PDMS, and multiblock, (-PDMS-b-PIB-b-PDMS-)n, copolymers. The key toward syntheses was the definition of conditions for the initiation of living anionic polymerization of hexamethyl-cyclotrisiloxane (D3) at the CH2OLi termini of well-defined tele-chelic PIB sequences. Subsequent deactivation of living D3 polymerization charges with Me3 SiCl yielded the target triblock whereas stoichiometric amounts of Me2 SiCl2 gave the multiblock copolymer.  相似文献

Model copolymers of poly(butadiene) (PB) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), PB‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PB, were synthesized by sequential anionic polymerization (high vacuum techniques) of 1,3‐butadiene and hexamethylciclotrisiloxane (D3) on sec‐BuLi followed by chlorosilane‐coupling chemistry. The synthesized copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). SEC and 1H NMR results showed low polydispersity indexes (Mw/Mn) and variable siloxane compositions, whereas DSC and TGA experiments indicated that the thermal stability of the triblock copolymers depends on the PDMS composition. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, we report the use of a double‐headed dialkoxyamine trithiocarbonate ( I ) capable of acting as chain transfer agent via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization or as initiator via nitroxide‐mediated polymerization. It is worth mentioning that I was revealed as an effective dual chain transfer agent in the synthesis of multiblock copolymers via bulk and emulsion processes. In this article, we report the employing of I in dispersed systems to obtain amphiphilic multiblock copolymers and latexes. In this case, a water soluble macroagent of PAA previously synthetized was used in disperse media using a mixture of methanol/water (70:30, w/w). Stable latexes were obtained via polymerization‐induced self‐assembly and surface‐initiated polymerization of SSNa from alkoxyamine‐functionalized latex PAA‐b‐PS‐b‐PAA was also obtained © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
