An aryl polyphenylphosphonate, poly(9-oxa-10-(2,5-dihydro-xyphenyl) phospha-phenanthrene-10-oxide) phenylphosphonate (WLA-3), was used to prepare a flame-retardant poly(lactic acid) (PLA) by direct melt compounding. The thermal behaviour, burning behaviour and mechanical properties of the flame-retardant PLA systems have been investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vertical burning test (UL-94), limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimeter test (CCT) and tensile test. The flame retardance mechanism has been studied via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and P content analysis. The UL-94 ratings of PLA’s containing 7phr (W7P) and 10phr (W10P) of WLA-3 were enhanced to V-0 from no rating for neat PLA. However, the cone calorimetry of flame-retardant PLA (W7P) only showed a little decrease in heat release rate (HRR), peak of heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) compared to neat PLA. TGA results showed that the PLA containing different amounts of WLA-3 presented more complicated thermal decomposition behaviours than neat PLA. Additionally, the results from DSC and tensile tests showed that the addition of WLA-3 into PLA had a slight impact on the crystallization behaviours and tensile properties.  相似文献

Novel intumescent flame-retardant poly(lactic acid) (PLA/IFR)/organo-modified α-zirconium phosphate(OZrP) nanocomposites were prepared via incorporation of charring agent (CA), ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and OZrP into PLA. OZrP was synthesized directly by a solvent thermal method. The morphological characterization of PLA/IFR/OZrP nanocomposites was conducted by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WXRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of the OZrP on flame retardancy and the thermal stability of PLA/IFR composites were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test (UL-94) and cone calorimeter test. The TGA data illustrated that the OZrP could increase the residue and significantly improve the flame retardancy of PLA/IFR/OZrP nanocomposites showing an excellent synergistic effect. The addition of OZrP to the flame-retardant PLA increases the LOI and enhances the UL-94 rating. Cone calorimeter tests gave clear evidence that the incorporation of OZrP into PLA/IFR composites resulted in the significant reduction of the heat release rate (HRR), low total heat release (THR) and high amount of char residues during combustion. The flame-retardant mechanism of PLA/IFR/OZrP nanocomposites may correspond to the intumescent flame-retardant mechanism and catalyzed carbonization mechanism caused by OZrP.  相似文献

To develop environmental‐friendly and flame‐retarded polymer composites, bio‐based polylactic acid (PLA) was loaded with thermally stable polyhedral octaphenyl silsesquioxane (OPS). Pure PLA and PLA/OPS composites with the OPS of 1, 3, 5, and 10 wt% were prepared by extrusion and injection molding, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), polarized optical microscope (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to analyze the dispersion of the OPS in the PLA matrix and the effects of OPS on the crystallization and thermal stability properties of PLA/OPS composites, respectively. Limited oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter (CONE) measurements were used to study flame retardancy of PLA and PLA/OPS composites. In order to study the flame‐retardant mechanism, the char residues were investigated by SEM, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). TGA‐FTIR was used to analyze the gaseous products of their thermal decomposition. The results show that the OPS particles were submicron in the PLA and could increase the crystallization rate of PLA and form small‐sized secondary α‐form crystalline compared with the pure PLA spherulite. The PLA and OPS decomposed individually in the PLA/OPS composites by TGA. According to the LOI tests, the PLA with the OPS loading exhibited very small reduction of LOI. However, the CONE tests indicated that the OPS could improve the flame retardancy of the PLA by means of low peak heat release rate and average heat release rate. It was obtained that the degree and type of the PLA crystalline for the pure PLA and PLA/OPS affect their flame retardancy. In the max thermal decomposition stage of PLA and PLA/OPS, their gaseous products were similar; at high temperatures, the PLA/OPS produced simple and clear gaseous products of PLA with solid SiO2 in the gas phase.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) composites containing 5 wt% synthetic (type 4A) and natural (chabazite) zeolites were prepared using extrusion/injection molding. Morphological, structural, and thermal properties of composites were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). DSC results revealed that the glass transition and melting temperatures were not significantly changed; however, the incorporation of both type 4A and chabazite zeolites enhanced the nucleation of PLA crystallites as well as increased the percent crystallinity. Thermal degradation properties of PLA and PLA/zeolite composites were studied by non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in nitrogen atmosphere. TGA results showed that at temperatures above 300 °C, PLA/type 4A synthetic zeolite composites were thermally decomposed more easily than the PLA and PLA/chabazite natural zeolite composites. The apparent activation energies of thermal degradation of PLA and PLA/zeolites composites estimated using both the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and Kissinger methods followed the same order: PLA/type 4A < PLA/chabazite < PLA.  相似文献

The flame‐retardant polylactic acid (PLA) has been prepared via mixing the flame retardant TGIC‐DOPO derived from phosphaphenanthrene and triazine groups into matrix. The flame retardancy of TGIC‐DOPO/PLA composites was characterized using the limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test (UL94), and cone calorimeter test. Results reveal that the 10%TGIC‐DOPO/PLA composite obtained 26.1% of LOI and passed UL94 V‐0 rating. The flame‐retardant mechanism of PLA composites was characterized via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), pyrolysis gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy, and TGA‐Fourier transform infrared. It discloses that TGIC‐DOPO promoted PLA decomposing and dripping early, and it also released the fragments with quenching and dilution effects. These actions of TGIC‐DOPO contribute to reducing the burning intensity and extinguishing the fire on droplets, thus imposing better flame retardancy to PLA. When TGIC‐DOPO was partly replaced by melamine cyanuric with dilution effect and hexa‐phenoxy‐cyclotriphosphazene with quenching effect in composites respectively, the results confirm that TGIC‐DOPO utilize well‐combination in dilution effect and quenching effect to flame retard PLA. The pyrolysis and fire behaviour of epoxy resin (EP) composites based on a novel polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane containing 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO-POSS) and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) have been investigated. The pre-reaction between the hydroxyl groups of DOPO-POSS and the epoxy groups of DGEBA at 140 °C is confirmed by FTIR, which means that DOPO-POSS molecules of hydroxyl group could easily disperse into the epoxy resin at the molecular level. The EP composites with the DOPO-POSS were prepared through a curing agent, m-phenylenediamine (m-PDA). The morphologies of the EP composites observed by SEM indicate that DOPO-POSS disperses with nano-scale particles in the EP networks, which implies good compatibility between them. The thermal properties and pyrolysis of the EP composites were analyzed by DSC and TGA, TGA-FTIR, and TGA-MS. The analysis indicates that the DOPO-POSS change the decomposition pathways of the epoxy resin and increase its residue at high temperature; moreover, the release of phosphorous products in the gas phase and the existence of Si-O and P-O structures in the residue Is noted. The fire behaviour of the EP composites was evaluated by cone calorimeter (CONE). The CONE tests show that incorporation of DOPO-POSS into epoxy resin can significantly improve the flame retardancy of EP composites. SEM and XPS were used to explore micro-structures and chemical components of the char from CONE tests of the EP composites, they support the view that DOPO-POSS makes the char strong with the involvement of Si-O and P-O structures.  相似文献

Herein, a bridged 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) derivative (PN‐DOPO) in combination with organ‐montmorillonite (OMMT) was used to improve the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of glass‐fiber‐reinforced polyamide 6 T (GFPA6T). The flame retardancy and thermal stabilities of the cured GFPA6T composites were investigated using limiting oxygen index, vertical burning (UL‐94) test, cone calorimeter test, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphological analysis and chemical composition of the char residues after cone calorimeter tests were characterized via scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry. The results indicate that 2 wt% OMMT combined with 13 wt% PN‐DOPO in GFPA6T achieved a V‐0 rating in UL‐94 test. The peak heat release rate and total smoke release remarkably decreased with the incorporation of OMMT as compared to those of GFPA6T/15 wt% PN‐DOPO. The TGA results show that the thermal stability and residual mass of the samples effectively increased with the increase in OMMT content. The morphological analysis and composition structure of the residues demonstrate that a small amount of OMMT could help form a more thermally stable and compact char layer during combustion. Also, with the incorporation of OMMT, the layers consisted of more carbon‐silicon and aluminum phosphate char in the condensed phase. Furthermore, GFPA6T/PN‐DOPO/OMMT composites exhibited excellent mechanical properties in terms of flexural modulus, flexural strength, and impact strength than the GFPA6T/PN‐DOPO system. The combination of PN‐DOPO and OMMT has improved the flame retardancy and smoke suppression of GFPA6T without compromising the mechanical properties.  相似文献

It is mainly studied that the smoke-suppression properties and synergistic flame-retardant effect of hollow glass microsphere (HM) in flame retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites based on ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as a flame-retardant. Also, the smoke suppression properties and flame-retardant effect were investigated by smoke density test (SDT), cone calorimeter test (CCT), limiting oxygen index, and thermogravimetric analysis, separately. The char residues left after CCT were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The data of SDT shows that HM could effectively decrease smoke production of TPU composites. The results of CCT reveal that the system of APP/HM could reduce heat release rate, smoke production rate, and total smoke release. It is shown that APP/HM is a good system with smoke-suppression and synergistic flame-retardant properties in flame-retardant TPU composites.  相似文献

A novel polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane containing 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO-POSS) has been incorporated into polycarbonate (PC) composites in order to study its effect on mechanical and thermal properties and flame retardancy. The mechanical and thermal properties of the DOPO-POSS/PC composites have been investigated by tensile and flexural testing, DSC, and DMA. Slight enhancements of yield stress, and flexural strength and modulus, and obvious decreases of fracture strength and strain of the DOPO-POSS/PC composites were observed with an increase in DOPO-POSS loading. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the composites were reduced with increasing DOPO-POSS loading. The morphology of the PC composites was evaluated by SEM, which indicated that the DOPO-POSS was dispersed with a particle size of 100-250 nm in the PC matrix. The thermal degradation behaviour and flame retardancies of PC composites with different DOPO-POSS loadings were investigated by TGA, LOI, UL-94 standard, and cone calorimetry. The composite had an LOI value of 30.5 and a UL-94 rating V-0 when the content of DOPO-POSS was 4%.  相似文献

High-density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl-acetate copolymer/magnesium hydroxide composites were crosslinked via high-energy electron beam irradiation in the presence of triallylisocyanurate. The structure of the cross-linking network was determined with the help of rheological measurements through advanced rheological extended systems (ARES). The thermal and flame-retardant properties of the irradiated composites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and cone calorimetry. Results showed that the cross-linking network structure could enhance the thermal stability of composites, and did favor to smoke suppression. However, the peak heat release rate (PHRR) increased and the time to PHRR shortened, inferring that the composites after irradiation cross-linking were easier to combust. The char microstructure after cone calorimetry test was observed and used to give explanation of the above results.  相似文献

In order to improve the flame retardant of polylactide (PLA), the synergistic effect of graphitic carbon nitride (g‐C3N4) with commercial‐available flame retardants melamine pyrophosphate (MPP) and 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) was investigated. The PLA composites containing 5 wt% g‐C3N4 and 10 wt% DOPO had a highest limited oxygen index (LOI) value of 29.5% and reached the V‐0 rating of UL‐94 test. The cone calorimeter tests exhibited that DOPO had a better synergistic effect with g‐C3N4 than MPP to improve flame retardancy of PLA. The peak heat release rate (pHRR) and total heat release (THR) of PLA composites containing 10 wt% DOPO could be reduced by 25.2% and 23.6%, respectively, as compared with those of pure PLA. The presence of rich phosphorus element and aromatic groups in DOPO contributed to obtain continuous compact char layer and increase the graphitization level of char residues, thereby, resulting in improving the flame retardancy of PLA together with g‐C3N4. In addition, the incorporation of DOPO can serve as a plasticizer to reduce the complex viscosity, improving the processability of PLA composites.  相似文献

Synergistic effect was observed between expandable graphite (EG) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) on flame retarded polylactide (PLA) in this paper using limiting oxygen index (LOI), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray spectroscopy (XPS) and cone calorimeter tests etc. In the experiments, PLA composites with 15 wt% of APP/EG(1:3) combinations showed a LOI value of 36.5 and V-0 rating in UL-94 tests, greatly improved flame retardant properties from composites with APP or EG alone. Results from TGA and cone calorimeter demonstrated that APP/EG combination could retard the degradation of polymeric materials above the temperature of 520 °C by promoting the formation of a compact char layer. This char layer protects the matrix effectively from heat penetrating inside and prevents its further degradation, resulting in lower weight loss rate and better flame retarded performance.  相似文献

Polypropylene/bamboo fiber (BFP) semi-biocomposites were prepared by melted blend method. Microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate was added to the BFP semi-biocomposites to improve the flame-retardant properties of the BFP semi-biocomposites. The flame-retardant properties of the BFP semi-biocomposites have been investigated by limited oxygen index, UL-94 test and cone calorimeter test. The results of cone calorimeter show that the peak of heat release rate (pHRR) and total heat release (THR) of the flame-retardant BFP semi-biocomposites decrease substantially compared with that without MCAPP. The pHRR value of flame-retardant BFP semi-biocomposite decreases from 540.0 to 227.5 kW m?2, and the THR value decreases from 75.3 to 49.2 MJ m?2. The thermal degradation and gas products of the flame-retardant BFP semi-biocomposites were monitored by thermogravimetric analysis and thermogravimetric analysis-infrared spectrometry.  相似文献

The nylon 6/MgAl layered double hydroxide (MgAl-LDH) nanocomposites have been prepared by melt intercalation of nylon 6 into the part organic dodecyl sulfate (DS) anion-modified MgAl(H-DS) interlayers. The structures and properties of MgAl(H-DS) and corresponding nanocomposites were characterized by ion chromotography, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), and cone calorimeter test (CCT). The nanoscale dispersion of MgAl(H-DS) layers in the nylon 6 matrix has been verified by the disappearance of d001 XRD diffraction peak of MgAl(H-DS) and the observation of TEM image. DSC tests evince that these exfoliated MgAl(H-DS) layers play the role of nucleating agents with strong heterogeneous nucleation effect on the crystallization of nylon 6 and increase its crystallization temperature over 12 °C with only 5 wt% MgAl(H-DS). TGA tests show that the effect of alkaline catalysis degradation from LDH on nylon 6 decreases the thermal stability of nylon 6/MgAl-LDH nanocomposites. The data from the cone calorimeter tests show that the HRR and MLR values of the sample with 5 wt% MgAl(H-DS) decrease considerably to 664 kW/m2 and 0.161 g/m2 s from 1064 kW/m2 and 0.252 g/m2 s of pure nylon 6, respectively. This kind of exfoliated nanocomposite is promising for the application of flame-retardant polymeric materials.  相似文献

The influence of thermal-oxidative aging on the flame retardancy of the flame retardant long-glass-fiber reinforced polyamide 6 composites (FR/PA6/LGF) with different thermal-oxidative exposure times at 160 °C were studied in this work. The flammability and flame-retardant properties of FR/PA6/LGF were investigated by means of the limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test (UL-94), cone calorimeter test (CONE), and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), before and after thermal-oxidative aging. The thermal-oxidative stability and degradation kinetics of the unaged and aged composites were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) with the methods of Kissinger and Ozawa in dynamic measurements (10 °C/min–40 °C/min). The results indicated that the flammability properties mirrored the degradation behaviors of these FR/PA6/LGF composites whatever their forms (aged or not). The Ozawa method showed that the causes of the first peak in the heat release rate change by CONE measurement corresponded to the apparent activation energies of the first stage degradation of aged FR/PA6/LGF composites, and the same conclusion with respect to the other heat release rate peak. Moreover, this aging slightly enhanced the solid phase flame-retardant mechanism by a char-promotion function, but had no effect on the gaseous flame-retardant mechanism and the decrease of harmful gas release rates. The existence of a surface migration effect on the flame retardant would endow FR/PA6/LGF composites with better LOI values, a more protective char layer structure, and excellent UL-94 ratings.  相似文献

The calcium alginate/CaCO3 composites were prepared via in situ method, and their flame retardancy and thermal degradation mechanism were investigated. The composites as-prepared were analyzed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), vertical burning (UL-94), cone calorimeter (CONE) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The SEM demonstrated that the inorganic calcium salt in the composites had great influence on the morphology of materials. The TG results indicated the thermal stability of the composites was remarkably improved by 70 °C, compared with that of the calcium alginate. The combustion behaviors of the materials were assessed by CONE. In comparison with those of the calcium alginate, the peak heat release rate and total heat release of the composites decreased by 40.42 and 62.59%, respectively. The different degradation mechanisms of the calcium alginate and the composites were first proposed in detail based on the TG, XRD and SEM results. The composites exhibited excellent thermal stability and flame retardancy, which is promising to be developed for the application as flame-retardant materials in the future.  相似文献

A nucleating agent, benzyl‐hydrazide‐derivatized poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and γ‐cyclodextrin inclusion complex (PLA‐IC‐BH), was synthesized through a series of reactions. Poly(lactic acid) and γ‐cyclodextrin inclusion complex (PLA‐IC) was first obtained by ultrasonic co‐precipitation, which was then subjected to carboxylation, acylation, and amidation using benzoyl hydrazine and thionyl chloride. The composition and structure of PLA‐IC‐BH was confirmed by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction. PLA/PLA‐IC‐BH composites were prepared by melt blending and a hot‐press forming process. Mechanical properties, thermal stabilities, and crystallization behaviors of PLA/PLA‐IC‐BH samples were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM), rheological analysis, and so on. Mechanical testing and thermogravimetric analysis showed that the tensile strengths, impact properties, and thermal stabilities of PLA/PLA‐IC‐BH composites were improved significantly compared to pure PLA and PLA/PLA‐IC. DSC results showed that crystallinity of PLA was increased from 5.17% to 38.93% after introduction of PLA‐IC‐BH. POM results showed that PLA‐IC‐BH acted as a nucleating agent for PLA and enhanced its crystallization rate. Rotational rheological behaviors of PLA/PLA‐IC‐BH demonstrated that incorporation of PLA‐IC‐BH increased the rigidity of the network structure of the PLA matrix. Compared to those of PLA, the maximum torque and apparent viscosity of PLA/PLA‐IC‐BH composites were increased by 55.56% and 25.59%, respectively. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) was used as synergist to enhance the flame-retardant and mechanical properties of poly(butylene succinate)/intumescent flame retardant (PBS/IFR) composites. The flame-retardant, thermal degradation and combustion properties of PBS and its flame-retardant composites were characterized by limiting oxygen index (LOI) test, vertical burning (UL-94) test, thermogravimetric analysis, cone calorimeter and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The results indicate that PBS/IFR composites exhibit excellent flame retardance when OMMT is at an appropriate content. PBS/IFR composite with 20 wt% IFR and 1.5 wt% OMMT has an LOI of 40.1% and can pass the UL-94 V0 rating. The synergistic effect between OMMT and IFR on the flame-retardant properties of PBS depends on the content of OMMT, and excessive OMMT diminish this synergistic effect. The possible flame-retardant mechanism of OMMT on PBS/IFR composite is proposed. The results of mechanical test also indicate that OMMT can effectively increase the notched impact strength of PBS/IFR composites.  相似文献

The thermal properties of paraffin as phase change material (PCM), combined with layered zinc hydroxide nitrate (LZHN) and intumescent flame retardant (IFR), have been studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TG), TG-Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (TG-FTIR), cone calorimeter (CONE),and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The TG results indicated that the thermal stabilities of the paraffin and paraffin/IFR composites could be improved when dodecyl sodium sulfate-modified LZHN (ds-LZHN) was incorporated. The TG-FTIR results indicated that ds-LZHN could reduce the release of combustible gases for paraffin and paraffin/IFR. The CONE results showed that the flame-retardant efficiency of IFR could be improved in the paraffin/IFR system owing to ds-LZHN. DSC results presented that the phase change temperatures and latent heats of the composites were determined by the dispersed paraffin with their mass percentage.
