THE ELECTROCHROMIC BEHAVIOUR OF LANTHANIDE BISPHTHALOCYANINES: THE ANOMALOUS NATURE OF THE GREEN LUTETIUM SPECIES

Abstract

Double integration of the electron paramagnetic resonance signal associated with the green form of lutetium bisphthalocyanine in dimethylformamide solution indicates it is a minor species. Magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy strongly suggests the chromophore is not a radical. These findings are in keeping with the recently resurrected hypothesis [Daniels et al., J. Coord. Chem. (1993) 28, 23–31] that the “electrochromic” color changes observed in lanthanide bisphthalocyanine chemistry are acid-base in nature and not due to oxidation-reduction processes involving the phthalocyanine rings.     

Skin Constituents as Cosmetic Ingredients. Part II: A Study of Bio‐Mimetic Monoglycerides Behavior at the Squalene‐Water Interface by the “Pendant Drop” Method in a Dynamic Mode

This work aims at presenting the viscoelastic behavior of bio‐mimetic monoglycerides used as emulsifier in a mixture made of two non‐miscible liquids, squalene and water. The measurement of the interfacial tension, carried out by the “pendant drop” method in “dynamic” mode, made it possible to characterize these amphiphilic molecules according to the value of their elastic modulus, ?, as well as their relaxation time, τ_R.

The analysis of these parameters, as well as those developed in the previous publication [L. Blasco et al. (2006) Skin constituents as cosmetic ingredients. Part I: A Study of bio‐mimetic monoglyceride behavior at the squalene‐water interface by the “pendant drop” method in a static mode. J. Dispers. Sci. Technol., 27(6).] shows that the hydrocarbon chain structure, such as its length, the presence of one or more unsaturations, hydroxyl function, affects the behavior of surfactant molecules at the squalene/water interface.

From “Living” Carbocationic to “Living” Radical Polymerization

Abstract

“Living” carbocationic polymerization is compared to the “living” radical process. Similarities and differences are discussed. “Living” radical polymerization of vinyl acetate and methyl methacrylate to provide polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distribution (M_w/M_n < 1.2) are presented.     

Derivatization,molecular docking and in vitro acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity of glycyrrhizin as a selective anti-Alzheimer agent

Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChE-Is) increase both level and duration of action of acetylcholine (ACh); thus, alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Glycyrrhizin, is the main active compound in liquorice root. Its aglycone, glycyrrhetinic acid, has shown several beneficial pharmacological activities. This study reports the synthesis and screening of a series of glycyrrhetinic acid analogs as AChE-Is. Fourteen derivatives were prepared, of which five derivatives are recorded as new viz., 3-phenyl-carbamoyl-18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (J9), 3-acetyl-18β-glycyrrhetinic-30-anilinamide (J10), 3-acetyl-18β-glycyrrhetinic-30-ethanolamide (J11), 3-acetyl-18β-glycyrrhetinic-30-n-butylamide (J12) and 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid-30-prenyl ester (J14), in addition to nine known derivatives (J1-J8 & J13). Compounds J12, J11, J0 and J3 showed remarkable AChE-I activity with IC₅₀ values of 3.43, 5.39, 6.27 and 8.68 μM, respectively. These results are in full agreement with the docking study. The active compounds were non-cytotoxic to normal cells (WI-38).
