The electronic excited state dynamics of protonated tryptamine ions generated by an electrospray source have been studied by means of photoinduced dissociation technique on the femtosecond time scale. The result is that the initially excited state decays very quickly within 250 fs. The photoinduced dissociation channels observed can be sorted in two groups of fragments coming from two competing primary processes on the singlet electronic surface. The first one corresponds to a hydrogen-atom loss channel that creates a tryptamine radical cation. The radical cation subsequently fragments to smaller ions. The second process is internal conversion due to the H-atom recombination on the electronic ground state. Time-dependent density functional theory calculations show that an excited pisigma* state dissociative along the protonated amino N-H stretch crosses both the locally excited pipi* state and the electronic ground state S(0) and thus triggers the photofragmentation reactions. The two processes have equivalent quantum yields, approximately equal to 50% of the fragments coming from the H-atom loss reaction. The two primary reaction paths can clearly be distinguished by their femtosecond pump/probe dynamics recorded on the different fragmentation channels.  相似文献

The ground‐ and excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer processes of 2‐(2‐R (R?OH, NH2, SH) phenyl (or pyridyl)) benzoxazoles (or benzothiazoles) are investigated by the DFT methods. The calculated results indicate that in the ground state there is a high correlation (R=0.9950) between the proton transfer barrier and the intramolecular hydrogen bonds (IMHB) strength. The increase of the strength of IMHB in the proton transfer processes leads to a larger barrier contributions. Intramolecular proton transfer process pathway is along with the minimal difference of change value in the IMHB angle. In the excited‐state, there is a similar relationship between the IMHB and the barrier.  相似文献

A comparison of the electronic properties of the nitrogen-containing rings aniline, 2-aminopyridine, and 2,6-diaminopyridine (26DAP) shows that the potential energy surface of the molecule is significantly affected as more nitrogen atoms are added to the system. High resolution, rotationally resolved spectra of four vibrational bands in the S(1)-S(0) electronic transition of 26DAP were obtained in order to explain these changes. The zig-zagging inertial defects point to a double minimum excited state potential energy surface along the coupled amino group inversion vibrational mode, which becomes a four-fold well (and barrier) problem when the existence of two nearly degenerate isomers is taken into account. Assuming that the molecules are in the lower energy, opposite-side configuration, ab initio calculations were performed using the MP2/6-31G** level of theory to create a potential energy surface modeling the simultaneous antisymmetric NH(2)-inversion mode. The calculated potential energy surface shows a ground electronic state barrier to simultaneous NH(2) inversion of ~220 cm(-1), and a fit to experimental vibrational energy level spacings and relative intensities produces an excited electronic state barrier of ~400 cm(-1). The ground state barrier is less than that in aniline, but the excited state barrier is larger.  相似文献

Ab initio electronic structure methods are used to estimate the cross sections for electron transfer from donor anions having electron binding energies ranging from 0.001 to 0.6 eV to each of three sites in a model disulfide-linked molecular cation. The three sites are (1) the S-S sigma(*) orbital to which electron attachment is rendered exothermic by Coulomb stabilization from the nearby positive site, (2) the ground Rydberg orbital of the -NH(3)(+) site, and (3) excited Rydberg orbitals of the same -NH(3)(+) site. It is found that attachment to the ground Rydberg orbital has a somewhat higher cross section than attachment to either the sigma orbital or the excited Rydberg orbital. However, it is through attachment either to the sigma(*) orbital or to certain excited Rydberg orbitals that cleavage of the S-S bond is most likely to occur. Attachment to the sigma(*) orbital causes prompt cleavage because the sigma energy surface is repulsive (except at very long range). Attachment to the ground or excited Rydberg state causes the S-S bond to rupture only once a through-bond electron transfer from the Rydberg orbital to the S-S sigma(*) orbital takes place. For the ground Rydberg state, this transfer requires surmounting an approximately 0.4 eV barrier that renders the S-S bond cleavage rate slow. However, for the excited Rydberg state, the intramolecular electron transfer has a much smaller barrier and is prompt.  相似文献

The ultrafast proton-transfer dynamics of 1-hydroxy-2-acetonaphthone has been theoretically analyzed in the ground and first singlet excited electronic states by density functional theory calculations and quantum dynamics. The potential energies obtained in the ground electronic state reveal that the proton-transfer process does not lead to a stable keto tautomer unless the transfer of the hydrogen from the enol form is accompanied by an internal rotation of the newly formed O-H bond. Calculations in the first singlet excited electronic state point to a very low barrier for the formation of the keto tautomer. The analysis of the calculated frequencies of the two tautomers in the excited state unveils a coupling of the skeletal motions (low frequency modes) with the proton-transfer process, as it has been stated from time-resolved experiments. The electronic energies obtained by the time-dependent density functional theory formalism have been fitted to a monodimensional potential energy surface in order to perform an exact quantum dynamics study of the process. Our results show that the proton-transfer process is completed within 25.5 fs, in remarkable good agreement with experiments.  相似文献

The barriers for double proton transfer in the ground and lowest Π-Π* and Π-Π* excited states of the formic acid dimer have been calculated within a modified INDO scheme. Analysis of the nature of the excited electronic states, with emphasis on charge-transfer transitions, has been performed. The results indicate a lower barrier in the excited Π-Π* states than in the ground state.  相似文献

We have studied the solvent effect on structures and potential energy surfaces along proton transfer in the ground and the excited states of 7-hydroxyquinoline interacting with an ethanol dimer using ab initio calculations. The proton transfer is forbidden in the ground state not only in vacuum but also in solvents of n-heptane, ethanol, and dimethyl sulfoxide. In the excited state, although the proton transfer is forbidden in vacuum, it is possible in solvent due to its greatly reduced barrier (~10 kcal mol(-1)) and highly stabilized product. It has also been found from the calculations that the proton-transfer barrier in the excited state decreases as the dielectric constant of a solvent increases. Our calculations are consistent with experimental results that the proton transfer does not take place in the ground state and that the excited-state proton-transfer rate increases as the solvent polarity increases. Our calculated absorption and emission properties are in excellent agreement with experimental results. Projection factors (reflecting geometrical change from the ground state to the excited state) and reorganization energies for several low frequency vibrations in connection with the excited-state proton transfer are discussed as well.  相似文献

Theoretical electronic structure calculations are reported for the dissociation of water adsorbed on a 31-atom silver cluster, Ag31, and subsequent transfer of a H to a second Ag31 cluster leaving OH on the first cluster. Both ground and excited electronic state processes are considered for two choices of Ag cluster separation, 6.35 and 7.94 A, on the basis of preliminary calculations for a range of separation distances. The excited electronic state of interest is formed by photoemission of an electron from one Ag cluster and transient attachment of the photoemitted electron to the adsorbed water molecule. A very large energy barrier is found for the ground-state process (3.53 eV at a cluster separation of 6.35 A), while the barrier in the excited state is small (0.38 eV at a cluster separation of 6.35 A). In the excited state, partial occupancy of an OH antibonding orbital facilitates OH stretch and concomitant movement of the negatively charged OH toward the electron-hole in the metal cluster. The excited-state pathway for dissociation of water and transfer of H begins with the formation of an excited electronic state at 3.59-3.82 eV. Stretch of the OH bond occurs with little change in energy (0.38-0.54 eV up to a stretch of 1.96 A). In this region of OH stretch the molecule must return to the ground-state potential energy surface to fully dissociate and to transfer H to the other Ag cluster. Geometry optimizations are carried out using a simplex algorithm and a semigrid method. These methods allow the total energy to be calculated directly using configuration interaction theory.  相似文献

Theoretical investigations were performed to study the phenomena of ground and electronic excited state proton transfer in the isolated and monohydrated forms of guanine. Ground and transition state geometries were optimized at both the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) and HF/6-311G(d,p) levels. The geometries of tautomers including those of transition states corresponding to the proton transfer from the keto to the enol form of guanine were also optimized in the lowest singlet pipi* excited state using the configuration interaction singles (CIS) method and the 6-311G(d,p) basis set. The time-dependent density function theory method augmented with the B3LYP functional (TD-B3LYP) and the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set was used to compute vertical transition energies using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) geometries. The TD-B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) calculations were also performed using the CIS/6-311G(d,p) geometries to predict the adiabatic transition energies of different tautomers and the excited state proton transfer barrier heights of guanine tautomerization. The effect of the bulk aqueous environment was considered using the polarizable continuum model (PCM). The harmonic vibrational frequency calculations were performed to ascertain the nature of potential energy surfaces. The excited state geometries including that of transition states were found to be largely nonplanar. The nonplanar fragment was mostly localized in the six-membered ring. Geometries of the hydrated transition states in the ground and lowest singlet pipi* excited states were found to be zwitterionic in which the water molecule is in the form of hydronium cation (H3O(+)) and guanine is in the anionic form, except for the N9H form in the excited state where water molecule is in the hydroxyl anionic form (OH(-)) and the guanine is in the cationic form. It was found that proton transfer is characterized by a high barrier height both in the gas phase and in the bulk water solution. The explicit inclusion of a water molecule in the proton transfer reaction path reduces the barrier height drastically. The excited state barrier height was generally found to be increased as compared to that in the ground state. On the basis of the current theoretical calculation it appears that the singlet electronic excitation of guanine may not facilitate the excited state proton transfer corresponding to the tautomerization of the keto to the enol form.  相似文献

Variable-temperature electronic absorption and resonance Raman spectroscopies are used to probe the excited state electronic structure of Tp(Cum,Me)Zn(SQ-Ph-NN) (1), a donor-bridge-acceptor (D-B-A) biradical complex and a ground state analogue of the charge-separated excited state formed in photoinduced electron transfer reactions. Strong electronic coupling mediated by the p-phenylene bridge stabilizes the triplet ground state of this molecule. Detailed spectroscopic and bonding calculations elucidate key bridge distortions that are involved in the SQ(π)(SOMO) → NN-Ph (π*)(LUMO) D → A charge transfer (CT) transition. We show that the primary excited state distortion that accompanies this CT is along a vibrational coordinate best described as a symmetric Ph(8a) + SQ(in-plane) linear combination and underscores the dominant role of the phenylene bridge fragment acting as an electron acceptor in the D-B-A charge transfer state. Our results show the importance of the phenylene bridge in promoting (1) electron transfer in D-Ph-A systems and (2) electron transport in biased electrode devices that employ a 1,4-phenylene linkage. We have also developed a relationship between the spin density on the acceptor, as measured via the isotropic NN nitrogen hyperfine interaction, and the strength of the D → A interaction given by the magnitude of the electronic coupling matrix element, H(ab).  相似文献

A systematic study of the proton transfer in the 7-azaindole–water clusters (7-AI(H2O)n; n=1–4) in both the ground and first excited singlet electronic states is undertaken. DFT(B3LYP) calculations for the ground electronic state shows that the more stable geometry of the initial normal tautomer presents a cyclic set of hydrogen bonds that links the two nitrogen atoms of the base across the waters. For the n=4 cluster the water molecules adopt a double ring structure so that two cycles of hydrogen bonds are found there. From this structure full tautomerization implies only one transition state so that a concerted but non-synchronous process is predicted by our theoretical calculations. This behavior is found both in the ground and the excited states where CIS geometry optimizations and TD(B3LYP) energy calculations are performed. The difference between both states is the height of the energy barrier that is much lower in the excited state. Another clear difference between both electronic states is that full tautomerization is an endergonic process in the ground state whereas it is clearly exergonic (then favorable) in the excited state. This is so because electronic excitation implies a charge transfer from the five-member cycle to the six-member one of 7-azaindole so that the proton transfer from the pyrrolic side to the pyridinic one is favored. These results clearly indicate that full tautomerization will not likely occur in the ground state but it will be quite easy (and fast) in the excited state. Reaction is already feasible in the S1 1:1 complex but it is faster in the 1:2 complex. However the reaction slows again for the 1:3 complex and, finally, reaches a new maximum for the largest cluster studied here, the n=4 case. These results, which are in agreement with experimental data, are explained in terms of the number of hydrogen bonds that are involved in the transfer. The proton transfer through a ring formed by the substrate and two water molecules is found to be the more efficient one, at least in this system.  相似文献

Cyanocobalamin (CNCbl) is a paradigm system for the study of excited electronic states and biological cofactors including the B12 vitamers. The photophysics of CNCbl has been thoroughly investigated using both ultrafast spectroscopy and time dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). Herewe review the spectroscopic and theoretical investigations of CNCbl with emphasis on the nature of S1, the lowest excited electronic state, and extend the spectroscopic measurements to include the ultraviolet region of the spectrum. Ultrafast transient absorption measurements in the visible αβ band region and in the midinfrared led to assignment of the S1 state to a ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) with lengthened axial bonds and a ~3 kcal/mol barrier for internal conversion to the ground state. The present measurements encompassing the γ band region of the spectrum provide further support for the assignment of the S1 state. The experiments are in good agreement with the results of TD-DFT calculations which confirm the expected lengthening of the axial bonds in S1 and account for the observed barrier for internal conversion back to the ground state.  相似文献

The photophysics of methyl salicylate (MS) isomers has been studied using time-dependent density functional theory and large basis sets. First electronic singlet and triplet excited states energies, structure, and vibrational analysis were calculated for the ketoB, enol, and ketoA isomers. It is demonstrated that the photochemical pathway involving excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) from the ketoB to the enol tautomer agrees well with the dual fluorescence in near-UV (from ketoB) and blue (from enol) wavelengths obtained from experiments. Our calculation confirms the existence of a double minimum in the excited state pathway along the O-H-O coordinate corresponding to two preferred energy regions: (1) the hydrogen belongs to the OH moiety and the structure of methyl salicylate is ketoB; (2) the hydrogen flips to the closest carboxyl entailing electronic rearrangement and tautomerization to the enol structure. This double well in the excited state is highly asymmetric. The Franck-Condon vibrational overlap is calculated and accounts for the broadening of the two bands. It is suggested that forward and backward ESIPT through the barrier separating the two minima is temperature-dependent and affects the intensity of the fluorescence as seen in experiments. When the enol fluoresces and returns to its ground state, a barrier-less back proton transfer repopulates the ground state of methyl salicylate ketoB. It is also demonstrated that the rotamer ketoA is not stable in an excited state close to the desired emission wavelength. This observation eliminates the conjecture that the near-UV emission of the dual fluorescence originates from the ketoA rotamer. New experimental results for pure MS in the liquid state are reported and theoretical results compared to them.  相似文献

The central C atom of the OCCCO skeleton of the malonaldehyde molecule is replaced by N, and the effects upon the intramolecular H-bond and the proton transfer are monitored by ab initio calculations in the ground and excited electronic states. The H-bond is weakened in the singlet and triplet states arising from n→π* excitation in both molecules, which is accompanied by a heightened barrier to proton transfer.3ππ* behaves in the same manner, but the singlet ππ* state has a stronger H-bond and lower barrier. Replacement of the central C atom by N strengthens the intramolecular H-bond. Although the proton transfer barrier in the ground state of formimidol is lower than in malonaldehyde, the barriers in all four excited states are higher in the N-analog. The latter substitution also dampens the effect of the n→π* excitation upon the H-bond and increases the excitation energies of the various states, particularly ππ*. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This work reported an investigation on the excited state and electronic transfer excitation of cuprous (I) bis-phenanthrouline complex by density functional theory. The intramolecular charge transfer from central metal to ligand (MLCT) during the excitation was observed. The transfer direction and degree were discussed on the basis of analyzing the Mulliken charge. The structural distortion caused by the charge transfer in the excited state was confirmed. The excited state was found having the characters similar with Cu(II) complex both in electronic and geometrical properties. The large structural distortion found between ground state and excited state could lead to a decrease in the lifetime of excited state as well as a non-radiative decay. The excitation energies and oscillator strengths of cuprous (I) bis-phenanthrouline were derived using time-dependent density functional method. The values of excitation energies are good agreement with the results of the experimental measuring.  相似文献

The mechanism of the hydrogen abstraction reaction H(2)O(2)+OH-->HO(2)+H(2)O in gas phase was revisited using density functional theory and other highly correlated wave function theories. We located two pathways for the reaction, both going through the same intermediate complex OH-H(2)O(2), but via two distinct transition state structures that differ by the orientation of the hydroxyl hydrogen relative to the incipient hydroperoxy hydrogen. The first two excited states were calculated for selected points on the pathways. An avoided crossing between the two excited states was found on the product side of the barrier to H transfer on the ground state surface, near the transition states. We report on the calculation of the rate of the reaction in the gas phase for temperatures in the range of 250-500 K. The findings suggest that the strong temperature dependence of the rate at high temperatures is due to reaction on the low-lying excited state surface over a barrier that is much larger than on the ground state surface.  相似文献

The ground state equilibrium structure and electric properties of two structural isomers of donor-acceptor substituted sesquifulvalene have been calculated at ab initio HF and MP2 levels for different conformations. The electronic properties of low lying excited singlets are calculated by using CI calculations including single excitations only. Isomer I in which the inter-ring charge transfer (CT) is reinforced in the presence of substituents shows sudden polarization in the ground and two lower lying excited states, while isomer II in which the longitudinal CT interaction is attenuated does not exhibit sudden polarization. The phenomenon of sudden polarization has been rationalized in terms of the easy polarization, smaller rotational barrier, and enhanced inter-ring CT on going from the planar to the orthogonal geometry. The appreciably large static second-order polarizability of I stems from its sudden polarized ground state. The solvent (using the conductor-like polarizable continuum model (CPCM)) plays a significant role on the modulation of ground and excited state electronic properties which, in general, predicts blue-shifts for I. However, for molecule II, the two lower energy transitions show a red-shift while the others show a weaker blue-shift at any conformation.  相似文献

Photoinduced electron transfer in donor-bridge-acceptor systems with zinc porphyrin (or its pyridine complex) as the donor and gold(III) porphyrin as the acceptor has been studied. The porphyrin moieties were covalently linked with geometrically similar bridging chromophores which vary only in electronic structure. Three of the bridges are fully conjugated pi-systems and in a fourth, the conjugation is broken. For systems with this bridge, the quenching rate of the singlet excited state of the donor was independent of solvent and corresponded to the rate of singlet energy transfer expected for a F?rster mechanism. In contrast, systems with a pi-conjugated bridging chromophore show a solvent-dependent quenching rate that suggests electron transfer in the Marcus normal region. This is supported by picosecond transient absorption measurements, which showed formation of the zinc porphyrin radical cation only in systems with pi-conjugated bridging chromophores. On the basis of the Marcus and Rehm-Weller equations, an electronic coupling of 5-20 cm(-)(1) between the donor and acceptor is estimated for these systems. The largest coupling is found for the systems with the smallest energy gap between the donor and bridge singlet excited states. This is in good agreement with the coupling calculated with quantum mechanical methods, as is the prediction of an almost zero coupling in the systems with a nonconjugated bridging chromophore.  相似文献
