Direct arylation polymerization between derivatives of dibromodiketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) and thienoisoindigo (TIIG) resulted in two π‐conjugated copolymers with average molecular weights up to 24.0 kDa and bandgaps as low as 0.8 eV. The structural analysis of the obtained two polymers revealed well‐defined alternating conjugation backbones without obvious structural defects. The introduction of hexyl‐group in the β‐position of thiophene rings in the DPP units not only reduces the bandgap of conjugated polymer compared to a similar polymer containing bare‐thiophene flanked DPP but also affects polymer morphology in thin films. P‐type charge‐transport characteristics were observed for two polymers in organic field‐effect transistors with comparable hole mobilities. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. In this study, we report the synthesis of π‐conjugated network polymers including unique fluorescent units via palladium‐catalyzed direct (C? H) arylation polycondensation of 1,2,4,5‐tetrafluorobenzene with tetrabromoarenes. The obtained polymers, including tetraphenylethene (TPE) or pyrene (PYR) units, had microporous structures with the specific Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface areas at 508 and 824 m2 g?1, respectively. These polymers possessed narrow pore distributions (<15 nm). These analyses supported that π‐conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) were synthesized by the direct arylation. Similar to the result of BET surface areas, carbon capture capacity of CMP based on PYR unit was higher than that of CMP based on TPE unit. Because the nitrogen capture capacity of these CMPs was low (≈ 0), selectivity of carbon dioxide adsorption was very high. TPE is a typical aggregation‐induced emission unit but PYR is an aggregation‐caused quenching (ACQ) molecule. The incorporation of TPE unit into the microporous polymer gave green‐colored fluorescence (Φ = 0.12). The polymer including PYR units also showed the green‐colored fluorescence (Φ = 0.05) even though the ACQ property. These synthesized CMPs exhibited characteristic solvatofluorochromism. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2017 , 55 , 3862–3867  相似文献

Conjugated copolymers based on benzodithiophene (BDT) derivatives and thiophene‐quinoxaline‐thiophene (TQT) segments represent an efficient class of light harvesting materials for organic photovoltaic (OPV) applications. Commonly, BDT‐TQT copolymers are synthesized by Stille cross‐coupling polymerization. In this study, alkoxy and thienyl functionalized alternating BDT‐alt‐TQT copolymers are synthesized by direct arylation polymerization (DArP), using Ozawa conditions. An extensive optimization of the reaction conditions such as the catalytic system, solvent, temperature, base, and the concentration of the catalyst is accomplished. The optical and electrochemical properties of the copolymers obtained by DArP are compared to the reference polymers synthesized by Stille cross‐coupling polymerization. Finally, the optimized BDT‐alt‐TQT copolymers are incorporated into organic solar cells as electron donors. The solar cells of the DArP copolymers exhibit power conversion efficiencies up to 80% (rel.) of their Stille cross coupling analogues. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A novel series of well‐defined alternating poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dihexylfluorenyl)‐alt‐pyridinyl] (PDHFP) with donor‐acceptor repeat units were synthesized using palladium (0)‐catalyzed Suzuki cross‐coupling reactions in good to high yields. In this series of alternating polymers, 2, 7‐(9,9‐dihexylfluorenyl) was used as the light emitting unit, and the electron deficient pyridinyl unit was employed to provide improved electron transportation. These polymers were characterized by 1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), thermal analyses, and UV‐vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The glass transition temperature of copolymers in nitrogen ranged from 110 to 148 °C, and the copolymers showed high thermal stabilities with high decomposition temperatures in the range of 350 to 390 °C in air. The difference in linkage position of pyridinyl unit in the polymer backbone has significant effects on the electronic and optical properties of polymers in solution and in film phases. Meta‐linkage (3,5‐ and 2,6‐linkage) of pyridinyl units in the polymer backbone is more favorable to polymer for pure blue emission and prevention of aggregation of polymer chain than para‐linkage (2,5‐linkage) of the pyridinyl units. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Proton transfer polymerization through thiol‐epoxy “click” reaction between commercially available and hydrophilic di‐thiol and di‐epoxide monomers is carried out under ambient conditions to furnish water‐soluble polymers. The hydrophilicity of monomers permitted use of aqueous tetrahydrofuran as the reaction medium. A high polarity of this solvent system in turn allowed for using a mild catalyst such as triethylamine for a successful polymerization process. The overall simplicity of the system translated into a simple mixing of monomers and isolation of the reactive polymers in an effortless manner and on any scale required. The structure of the resulting polymers and the extent of di‐sulfide defects are studied with the help of 13C‐ and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. Finally, reactivity of the synthesized polymers is examined through post‐polymerization modification reaction at the backbone sulfur atoms through oxidation reaction. The practicality, modularity, further functionalizability, and water solubility aspects of the described family of new poly(β‐hydroxythio‐ether)s is anticipated to accelerate investigations into their potential utility in bio‐relevant applications. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here, a family of donor/acceptor (D/A) alternating copolymers and random two‐acceptor and three‐acceptor copolymers were synthesized via Suzuki polymerization based on heptadecan‐9‐yl substituted carbazole as a donor and 4,7‐Bis(5‐bromothiophene‐2‐yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (DTBT), 2,5‐diethylhexyl‐3,6‐bis(5‐bromothiophene‐2‐yl)pyrrolo[3,4‐c]‐pyrrole‐1,4‐dione (DPP) and 2,8‐dibromo‐4,10‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)thieno[2′,3′:5,6] pyrido[3,4‐g]thieno[3,2‐c]isoquinoline‐5,11(4H,10H)‐dione (TPTI) as acceptors. For the first time, a relatively new electron‐deficient TPTI unit was used as an acceptor in carbazole‐based conjugated polymers. Introduction of the electron‐deficient TPTI unit into the polymer backbone increased the open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of the resulting polymer solar cells up to 0.96 V. PCTPTI and PCDTBT‐TPTI exhibited external quantum efficiencies (EQE) up to 75%. All random two‐acceptor copolymers showed broadened absorption profiles compared to the D/A alternating analogues. In order to further improve the light absorption, a random three‐acceptor copolymer was synthesized for the first time, resulting in the broadest absorption in the range of 350–750 nm. Highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energies and Voc values of the resulting polymers could be successfully tuned by introducing different monomer units into the polymer backbone in different ratios. These results indicate that TPTI is a promising acceptor unit for conjugated polymers and that the random copolymer approach is a successful tool for fine tuning of polymer properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT: Direct arylation polymerization (DAP) enabled facile synthesis of a narrow bandgap donor–acceptor conjugated polymer (PDFBT‐Th4) composed of alternating 5,6‐difluoro‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole and alkyl‐quaternarythiophene. The optimized reaction condition of DAP catalyzed with Pd(OAc)2/(o‐MeOPh)3P/PivOH/K2CO3 in o‐xylene led to the target polymer with a number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 14.6 kDa without noticeable homocoupling or β‐branching defects. UV‐vis absorption spectra of PDFBT‐Th4 indicate strong interchain aggregation in films. While the C‐H selectivity and the alternating polymer structure of PDFBT‐Th4 synthesized via DAP are comparable to those of the same type polymers synthesized via Stille coupling, the batch of PDFBT‐Th4 synthesized via optimal DAP, despite its lower Mn, showed higher hole mobility in field effect transistors and larger power conversion efficiency in organic solar cell devices. These results further demonstrate the promising potential of DAP for efficient synthesis of high‐performance D‐A conjugated polymers for broad optoelectronic applications. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Anionic polymerizations of acrylates possessing 1‐pyrenyl (Py1), 1‐naphthyl (Np1), 2‐naphthyl (Np2), and 2‐fluorenyl (Fl2) groups as α‐substituents were investigated as well as the properties of the obtained polymers. Py1 and Np1 did not undergo polymerization, whereas Np2 and Fl2, annulated α‐phenylacrylates at 3,4‐position of the phenyl group, afforded homo‐oligomers and alternating copolymers with methyl methacrylate (MMA). The oligomer of Fl2 [oligo(Fl2)] exhibited strong excimer emission in diluted solution. In contrast, dominant monomer emission was observed for the alternating copolymer with MMA [poly(Fl2‐co‐MMA)]. In the alternating copolymer, MMA units could function as spacers preventing the association of pendant fluorene moieties to suppress the excimer formation. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Core cross‐linked star (CCS) polymers with radiating arms composed of high‐order multiblock copolymers have been synthesized in a one‐pot system via iterative copper‐mediated radical polymerization. The employed “arm‐first” technique ensures the multiblock sequence of the macroinitiator is carried through to the star structure with no arm defects. The versatility of this approach is demonstrated by the synthesis of three distinct star polymers with differing arm compositions, two with an alternating ABABAB block sequence and one with six different block units (i.e. ABCDEF). Owing to the star architecture, CCS polymers in which the arm composition consists of alternating hydrophilic–hydrophobic (ABABAB) segments undergo supramolecular self‐assembly in selective solvents, whereas linear polymers with the same block sequence did not yield self‐assembled structures, as evidenced by DLS analysis. The combination of microstructural and topological control in CCS polymers offers exciting possibilities for the development of tailor‐made nanoparticles with spatially defined regions of functionality. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermally cleavable multiarm star polymers containing thermo‐reversible furan–maleimide cycloadduct‐based core were synthesized using dendritic macroinitiators. Peripheries of dendritic macroinitiators were modified with bromine containing free radical initiators to obtain multiarm polymers by utilizing atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Cleavage of thus obtained multiarm polymers was achieved via the retro Diels–Alder cycloreversion reaction of the furan–maleimide core at elevated temperatures. As an alternative approach, combination of multiarm polymers containing a furan and maleimide functional group at their core was attempted to realize that the steric bulk does not allow their formation. Hence the “grafting‐from” route using a thermally fragmentable trigger containing multiarm initiators provides a plausible methodology for fabrication of such thermally cleavable multiarm polymeric materials. Syntheses of dendritic initiators, formation of star polymers as well as their fragmentation were followed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The design rules for creating multifunctional organic electronic materials are currently limited. By copolymerizing twisted triphenylamine (TPA) and electron rich dioxythiophene (XDOT) monomers via Direct (Hetero) Arylation Polymerization (DHAP), a set of polymers are obtained that perform as yellow to transmissive electrochromic (EC) films with up to 45% contrast, as well as in electroluminescent (EL) applications, achieving a luminance of ∼450 cd/m2 in yellow‐green polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). In addition, polymerizing TPA with a donor‐acceptor‐donor monomer results in a low‐bandgap polymer that achieves power conversion efficiencies up to 2.5% when blended with PC71BM in conventional organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices. Incorporation of TPA units into the polymer backbone largely breaks any aggregation and ordering in the solid‐state, leading to highly soluble materials that form smooth, reproducible thin films. The TPA unit also serves to break conjugation throughout the polymer backbone, providing precise control over optical and electronic properties through choice of comonomer. These results suggest that TPA copolymers can be useful for achieving multi‐functionality without sacrificing facile solution processability, making them promising candidates for multifunctional devices like dual EC/EL displays. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A π‐conjugated polymer containing a dithiafulvene unit and a bipyridyl unit was prepared by cycloaddition polymerization of aldothioketene derived from 5,5′‐diethynyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine. Ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectra showed that the π‐conjugation system of the polymer expanded more effectively than that of a benzene analogue of poly(dithiafulvene) obtained from 1,4‐diethynylbenzene. Cyclic voltammetry measurements indicated that the dithiafulvene–bipyridyl polymer was a weaker electron‐donor polymer than the benzene analogue. These results supported the idea that the incorporation of the electron‐accepting bipyridyl moiety into conjugated poly(dithiafulvene) induced an intramolecular charge‐transfer (CT) effect between the units. Treatment of the dithiafulvene–bipyridyl polymer with bis(2,2′‐bipyridyl)dichlororuthenium (II) [Ru(bpy)2Cl2] afforded a ruthenium–polymer complex. A cyclic voltammogram of the complex showed broad redox peaks, which indicated electronic interaction between the dithiafulvene and tris(bipyridyl) ruthenium complex. The dithiafulvene–bipyridyl polymer formed CT complexes with 7,7,8,8‐tetracycanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) in dimethyl sulfoxide. The UV–vis absorption indicated that the resulting CT complex contained anion radical of TCNQ and partially charge‐transferred TCNQ. The polymer showed an unusually high electrical conductivity of 3.1 × 10?4 S/cm in its nondoped state due to the effective donor–acceptor interaction between the bipyridine unit and the dithiafulvene unit. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Terminal aryl alkynes RC6H4C?CH with substituents of different electronic properties and ring position (R = H, 4‐CF3, 4‐OMe, 2‐CF3, 2‐OMe, 2‐Me) were exposed to γ‐radiation (50–400 kGy) in organic solvents (hexane, 1,4‐dioxane, ethylacetate, methanol, tetrahydrofuran), at room temperature. The effects arising from substituent, solvent, dilution, and radiation dose allowed to define the conditions suitable for polymerization, which was favored in methanol at increasing dilution of the alkyne. Ortho‐substitution represented the key structural element in the substrate, and the derived polyarylacetylenes were characterized in detail, including gel permeation chromatography, thermal analysis, infrared, NMR, UV–vis, fluorescence, and scanning electron microscope spectroscopy. The results are consistent with the formation of irregular polymers mainly composed of trans‐transoid chains. Controlled aggregation of the polymers by means of an osmosis‐based procedure in solvent/non‐solvent mixtures allowed the formation of nanostructured materials, in particular of hollow nanospheres from THF/water. The methodology sets the basis for the development of γ‐rays‐induced polymerization of alkynes, in a transition metal catalyst‐free environment. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new bipyridine‐functionalized dithioester was synthesized and further used as a RAFT agent in RAFT polymerization of styrene and N‐isopropylacrylamide. Kinetics analysis indicates that it is an efficient chain transfer agent for RAFT polymerization of the two monomers which produce polystyrene and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) polymers with predetermined molecular weights and low polydispersities in addition to the end functionality of bipyridine. The bipyridine end‐functionalized polymers were further used as macroligands for the preparation of star‐shaped metallopolymers. Hydrophobic polystyrene macroligand combined with hydrophiphilic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) was complexed with ruthenium ions to produce amphiphilic ruthenium‐cored star‐shaped metallopolymers. The structures of these synthesized metallopolymers were further elucidated by UV–vis, fluorescence, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as well as NMR techniques. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Side‐chain liquid‐crystalline polymers of 6‐[4‐(4′‐methoxyphenyl)phenoxy]hexyl methacrylate with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersities were prepared via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization with 2‐(2‐cyanopropyl) dithiobenzoate as the RAFT agent. Differential scanning calorimetry studies showed that the polymers produced via the RAFT process had a narrower thermal stability range of the liquid‐crystalline mesophase than the polymers formed via conventional free‐radical polymerization. In addition, a chain length dependence of this stability range was found. The generated RAFT polymers displayed optical textures similar to those of polymers produced via conventional free‐radical polymerization. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Steric hindrance of the amine strongly affected the formation of the dominant 1,2‐addition product from the anionic polymerization of 1,3‐cyclohexadiene (1,3‐CHD) initiated by the alkyllithium (RLi)/amine system in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent. 1,2‐Cyclohexadiene (1,2‐CHD)/1,4‐cyclohexadiene (1,4‐CHD) unit molar ratios from 85/15 to 93/7 were obtained using an RLi/N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) system in toluene. The C? Li bonds of poly(1,3‐cyclohexadienyl)lithium (PCHDLi)/TMEDA complex in toluene appeared to be strongly polarized with small steric hindrance. Intermolecular forces contributing to the aggregation were strong for high‐molecular‐weight poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) (PCHD) consisting of almost all 1,2‐CHD units. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic tris(2,2′‐bipyridine)ruthenium‐cored star‐shaped polymers consisting of one polystyrene block and two poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) blocks were prepared by the “arm‐first” method in which RAFT polymerization and nonconvalent ligand–metal complexation were employed. The prepared amphiphilic star‐shaped metallopolymers are able to form micelles in water. The size and distribution of the micelles were studied by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy techniques. Preliminary studies indicate that the polymer concentration and the hydrophilic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) block length can affect the morphologies of the formed metal‐interfaced core–shell micelles in water. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The copolymerization of N‐phenyl maleimide and p‐chloromethyl styrene via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process with AIBN as initiator and 2‐(ethoxycarbonyl)prop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate as RAFT agent produced copolymers with alternating structure, controlled molecular weights, and narrow molecular weight distributions. Using poly(N‐phenyl maleimide‐altp‐chloromethyl styrene) as the macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene in the presence of CuCl/2,2′‐bipyridine, well‐defined comb‐like polymers with one graft chain for every two monomer units of backbone polymer were obtained. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,6‐Dimethyl‐5‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxa‐4‐one (DMDO), a cyclic acrylate possessing acetal–ester linkage, was obtained as a mixture of cis‐ and trans‐isomers (95:5) from Baylis–Hillman reaction of an aryl acrylate. The radical and anionic polymerizations of DMDO yielded the corresponding vinyl polymers without any side reactions such as cleavage of the acetal–ester linkage. The polymerization behaviors were significantly different from that of the acyclic acrylate, α‐(hydroxymethyl)acrylic acid, which was expected inactive against polymerization due to the steric hindrance around the vinylidene group by the α‐substituent. The acetal–ester linkage of the obtained polymer ( P1 ) was completely cleaved via acid hydrolysis to afford a water soluble polymer, P2 . © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The aggregation of poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) (PCHD), obtained by anionic polymerization with alkyllithium/amine systems, was examined using size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and size exclusion chromatography coupled with a multiangle laser light scattering photometer (SEC‐MALS). The PCHD polymer chain has a structure consisting of a main chain formed by 1,2‐addition (the 1,2‐CHD unit) and 1,4‐addition (the 1,4‐CHD unit). Mild stirring with relatively low temperature in the polymerization reaction forms an aggregation of PCHD. The molecular weight and molar ratio of 1,2‐CHD/1,4‐CHD units in the polymer chain strongly influence the aggregation of PCHD. In a high molecular weight PCHD, containing ~50% 1,2‐CHD units, an aggregation of the polymer was observed in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution at room temperature. This aggregation of PCHD was soluble in 1,2,4‐trichlorobenzene (TCBz) and could be separated into each polymer molecule. In contrast, a polymer chain with a high content of 1,4‐CHD units having a relatively low cis‐stereospecificity was easily soluble in THF and TCBz without aggregating. A long polymer chain structure with a high content of 1,2‐CHD units is considered to be the reason for the generation of strong intermolecular forces contributing to the aggregation of PCHD with the solvophobic interactions. The degree of aggregation could be controlled by the conditions of the PCHD polymer solution. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 1442–1452, 2006  相似文献
