Syntheses and fluorescence of salicylaldimine schiff base derivatives of 1,1′‐di(aminoethylaminocarbonylalkyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole

The amide‐amine, 1,1′‐di(aminoethylaminocarbonylethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DAEPB) ( 1 ), and subsequent Schiff base imine product, 1,1′‐di(salicylaldiminoethylaminocarbonylethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DSEB) ( 2a ), have been synthesized from the ester, 1,1′‐di(ethoxycarbonylethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DEPB). Additionally, 1,1′‐di(salicylaldiminoethylaminocarbonylmethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DSMB) ( 2b ), was prepared from its corresponding amide‐amine. All compounds were characterized with FTIR, NMR and elemental analyses. The salicylaldimines, compounds ( 2a ) and ( 2b ), exhibit fluorescence at 540 and 520 nm, respectively, over a broad range of excitation wavelengths.     

DNA Cross‐Linking Patterns Induced by an Antitumor‐Active Trinuclear Platinum Complex and Comparison with Its Dinuclear Analogue

The center of it all : An antitumor‐active trinuclear platinum complex forms unprecedented interstrand cross‐linked triadducts with 18‐mer DNA duplexes (see figure; complex in yellow with the platinum centers in red) and behaves differently from its dinuclear analogue.

     

Synthesis of some 2‐oxo and 2‐thioxo substituted pyrimidines using solvent‐free conditions

A series of oxo‐ and thioxopyrimidines 4 ( a‐m ) were synthesized by one‐pot three components cyclocondensation reaction of β‐ketoester, aldehyde and urea/thiourea using benzyltriethylammonium chloride as a catalyst under solvent‐free conditions. The yields of products following recrystallization from ethanol were of the order of 65‐87%. IR and ¹HNMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis were used for identification of these compounds.     

1,3‐Dipolar cycloadditions: Investigation of cycloadditions of c‐aryl‐n‐(4‐chlorophenyl) nitrones to n‐cinnamoyl piperidines

Investigation of cycloadditions of C‐aryl‐N‐(4‐chlorophenyl)nitrones to N‐cinnamoyl piperidines was carried out. Two diastereoisomeric and one regioisomeric cycloadducts, and in some cases ring‐opened compounds were characterized by spectroscopic and X‐ray data. Molecular modelling was carried out for conformational studies.
