A technique is described for the determination of total gaseous lead in the atmosphere by honeycomb denuder collection, followed by an electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) measurement. The collection efficiency of the honeycomb denuder in which a solution containing 2% HNO3/2% glycerine/1% ammonium dihydrogenphosphate was coated for trapping the gaseous lead in the atmosphere was 98.8%. The linear absorbance response was obtained for a concentration range of 0-1.39 microg m(-3) of lead in the atmosphere. A precision of 4.8% RSD (peak-height absorbance, n = 11) for an aqueous solution of 1 ng of lead standard, characteristic masses (CM) of 23 pg and detection limit (3sigma) of 54 pg for an aqueous solution of 0.01 ng lead standard was achieved with 100 microg ammonium dihydrogenphosphate as a chemical modifier. The average recovery of lead in three standard samples prepared by the independent digestion of NIST SRM 1648 (Urban Particulate Matter) using our analytical system was 97.8%. The total content of the gaseous lead in the atmosphere of our laboratories was 0.35-0.38 microg m(-3).  相似文献

This paper deals with determination of selenium and analysis of its speciation in some Italian mineral waters. Selenium was determined by differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry (DPCSV) even if square wave cathodic stripping voltammetry (SWCSV) was also taken into consideration. The selenium determined in the mineral waters here investigated is not over 600 ng L(-1); in three samples, it was found below the detection limit. Analysis of speciation revealed that Se(VI) is the highly prevailing form present: only two of the examined samples revealed a detectable amount (few ng L(-1)) of Se(IV). DPCSV made possible to detect, in two of the samples, the presence of a specie(s) able to interact with Se(IV). The apparent interaction constant for the adduct formation was evaluated and the species concentration determined. However, the nature of such compound(s) remains unknown.  相似文献

Elemental selenium and tellurium, and gaseous inorganic forms of Se(IV), Se(VI), Te(IV) and Te(VI) have been determined after their adsorption on gold-coated beads. After leaching, with water and dilute hydrochloric and nitric acids, the different chemical species in each acid fraction were separated with an anion-exchange resin (Bio-Rad AG-1X8) and a cation-exchange resin (Amberlite IR-120 Plus) by varying the acidity of the leaching agent. Subsequent analysis was by graphite-fumace atomic-absorption spectrometry. The lower detection limit for Se and Te was 0.03 ng/M(3) with a precision of +/- 5%. The average amounts of selenium in interior and exterior air samples were about 4.73 and 1.93 ng/m(3) respectively. For tellurium the corresponding values were about 0.78 and 0.24 ng/m(3).  相似文献

A speciation scheme allowing the study of selenium speciation in environmental samples has been developed in order to study the transfer mechanism in the system water/soil/plant/animal. This scheme is based on a set of sample treatment procedures followed by Se(IV) determination by Differential Pulse Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry (DPCSV). Se(IV) may be determined with a detection limit close to 25 ng l–1 and a linear response in the range 25–4000 ng l–1. However, humic substances, present in some natural waters and soils, which are adsorbed at the mercury drop electrode (HMDE) surface may alter the signal. This may be caused by a competition between adsorption of organic matter and mercury(II) selenide formation at the electrode surface. As a consequence the detection limit has been increased to ca. 250 ng l–1 in the presence of 1 mg l–1 fulvic acids; the linear response range is then shifted to 250–10000 ng l–1. After an extensive study of these interferences and using standard additions procedures, the Se(IV) content of various waters and soil extracts has been determined by DPCSV with a good reproducibility (RSD about 1%). Accuracy is satisfactory comparing the results obtained by DPCSV to those obtained by Hydride Generation/Quartz Furnace Absorption Atomic Spectrometry (HG/QFAAS).  相似文献

Reactive iodine species have been suggested to play an important role in the atmosphere (e.g. tropospheric ozone depletion, coastal new particle formation). However, there still exist major uncertainties about their atmospheric chemistry, mostly due to the lack of analytical approaches for the accurate speciation of certain key compounds. In this study, 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene (1,3,5-TMB)-coated denuder proved to be suitable for the differentiation between gaseous interhalogens (iodine monochloride (ICl), iodine monobromide (IBr)) and molecular iodine (I2) based on a selective collection/derivatization method. The results of the denuder sampling were compared with the results of impinger sampling in water, methanol and carbon tetrachloride solutions of 1,3,5-TMB. ICl and IBr are converted into 1-iodo-2,4,6-trimethoxybenzene (1-iodo-2,4,6-TMB) and 1-bromo-2,4,6-trimethoxybenzene (1-bromo-2,4,6-TMB), respectively, in the denuder systems. The respective collection efficiency is 99.2% for ICl and 92.6% for IBr, at 500mLmin(-1) gas flow rate. The collection efficiency for I2 is lower than 1% in the same denuder system, but significantly increases to about 90% in the aqueous 1,3,5-TMB loaded impinger. The denuder-impinger coupled system was then used to differentiate and to collect the ICl, IBr and I2 gas mixtures, followed by gas chromatography-ion trap mass spectrometry (GC-MS) determination. The precision of the method is in general better than 9.1%. The parameters affecting denuder operation including sampling flow rate, sampling duration, and relative humidity have been evaluated. The presented method provides an attractive protocol for iodine species analysis for atmospheric chemistry research.  相似文献

A method is described for the determination of selenium by differential pulse cathodic-stripping voltammetry (DPCSV) at a hanging mercury-drop electrode. The dried sample is burnt in an oxygen flask and the selenium absorbed in a persulphate-sulphuric acid mixture. The solution is analysed by DPCSV following treatment with hydrochloric acid to destroy excess of persulphate and to reduce the Se(VI) to Se(IV). Results are given for two soils and a series of plant materials and compared with those obtained by fluorimetric analysis by means of the 2,3-diaminonaphthalene piazselenol complex.  相似文献

A sensitive catalytic kinetic spectrofluorimetric method for determining ng ml(-1) of selenium by flow injection analysis has been developed. The method, based on the catalytic effect of Se (IV) on the reduction of resorufin by sulphide, in the presence of cetylpyridinium chloride, is monitored spectrofluorimetrically (lambda(ex)=480 nm; lambda(em)=583 nm). The linearity range of the calibration graph is dependent on the concentration of sulphide. The variables affecting the rate of the reaction were investigated. The method is simple, rapid, precise, sensitive, and widely applicable. The limit of detection is 1 ng ml(-1) Se (IV), and the calibration range is 5-1000 ng ml(-1). Sampling rate is 60 samples h(-1), and the relative standard deviation of 12 determinations of 100 ng ml(-1) Se was 0.76%. The determination of Se (IV) in the presence of Se (VI) and total selenium is described. The method was applied to the determination of Se in selenium tablets, and several synthetic samples.  相似文献

The catalytic polarographic determination of selenium(IV) by use of the SeSO(2-)(3) -KIO(3) system is sensitive, accurate, rapid and requires only small quantities of sample. The detection limit for selenium(IV) is 0.04 ng/ml in the final solution. The working range of the calibration is 0.04-2.5 ng/ml. Se(VI) present can be reduced with hot hydrochloric acid to Se(IV), allowing determination of the total selenium.  相似文献

An analytical method was developed for the determination of total dissolved selenium in fresh waters, using linear sweep cathodic stripping voltammetry (CSV) in combination with UV photolytic digestion. Both the CSV method, based on the electrodeposition and stripping of Cu(2)Se, and the UV irradiation procedure were investigated in detail. In the presence of dissolved organic substances, as in freshwaters, Se(VI) is reduced to Se(IV) by UV irradiation in 0.1M hydrochloric acid. Glucose can be used as the carbon source in samples low in natural dissolved organic carbon (DOC). The photolytic yields of Se(IV) were about 90% in both cases. Five freshwater samples were analysed for total selenium by CSV after UV photolysis, and by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HG-AAS) after oxidative digestion followed by reduction with hydrochloric acid. The results agreed well and the concentrations were in the range 70-190 ng/l., well above the detection limit of the CSV method at 2 ng/l.  相似文献

A method is described for the determination of the total gaseous mercury in air at concentrations ranging from ca. 0.1 ng m-3 to 1μg m-3. The method is based on the collection of mercury species on gold-coated quartz wool followed by detection with an atomic absorption detector. The collection efficiencies for mercury, dimethylmercury, methyl-mercury(II) chloride, and mercury(II) chloride are nearly quantitative at flow rates up to 10 1 min-1 and at temperatures up to 50°C. The absolute detection limit of the method is 20 pg of mercury. Under field conditions the precision of the analytical procedure was 14.5% (n=5) for 400-l samples of air and a mercury concentration of 1.5 ng m-3. Measurements of the mercury distribution in the atmosphere show an ambient background level in clean air masses of 1.0–4.0 ng m-3.  相似文献

An in situ nitric acid analyzer has been designed for sensing in the remote atmosphere. Its operation is based on measuring the concentration difference between the total odd nitrogen species (NO(y)) and HNO(3)-scrubbed NO(y). NO(y) was measured by an NO-ozone chemiluminescent detector equipped with a molybdenum converter. A temperature-controlled annular denuder coated with NaCl was used as a scrubber of gaseous HNO(3). The current detection limit of the HNO(3) analyzer was estimated to be 158 and 71 pptv (parts per trillion by volume) with an integration time of 2 and 10 min (2sigma), respectively. The analyzer was calibrated using standard gaseous HNO(3) to verify its performance. The HNO(3) concentrations measured by the scrubber difference and the NO-ozone chemiluminescence methods (SDCL method) were in agreement with those obtained by the denuder method within the experimental uncertainties (more than +/-4%). We conducted limited field observations of NO(y) and HNO(3) in the remote atmosphere using the newly designed SDCL method at Cape Hedo, Okinawa, Japan.  相似文献

An air-sampling method employing denuders coated inside with a chemisorptive stationary phase has been evaluated for analysis of the hazardous gaseous 2,4 and 2,6 isomers of toluene diisocyanate (TDI). The denuder stationary phase consisted of polydimethylsiloxane (SE-30) to which dibutylamine (DBA) was added as a reagent for derivatization of TDI. The accuracy and precision of sampling by means of denuders were shown to differ only slightly from those of the established impinger method. The denuder method was, however, also shown to be suitable for long-term measurements (up to 8 h). The limit of determination (LOD) of the method, including LC-APCI-MS-MS analysis, was found to be 1.9 microg m(-3) and 1.2 microg m(-3) for 2,4- and 2,6-TDI, respectively, for short-term measurements (15 min). Significant lower LOD was obtained for long-term measurements. This is well below the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 8-h TWA (time-weighted average) exposure limit, which is 40 microg m(-3) for the sum of the TDI isomers. The denuder method was also found to be robust and easy to handle. The samplers can be prepared several days before sampling with no loss in performance. The contents of denuders should, on the other hand, be extracted immediately after sampling to prevent degradation of the isocyanate derivatives formed.  相似文献

A denuder sampler has been evaluated for a mixture of three gaseous diisocyanates, i.e. toluene diisocyanate (TDI), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI). Sampling was performed at a total concentration of diisocyanates close to the Swedish occupational exposure limit (OEL), which is 10 ppbv (69-92 microg m(-3)), for a 5-min period. The denuder tube was coated with a chemosorptive stationary phase consisting of SE-30 (polydimethylsiloxane) and the derivatising reagent dibutylamine (DBA). It was shown that the denuder has a collection efficiency for HDI and IPDI comparable to that of an impinger method, while sampling of TDI resulted in an 8% lower concentration. Both short-term (15 min) and long-term (8 h) sampling periods were shown to yield reproducible results. For 8-h measurements, a sampling flow rate of 5 mL min(-1) was shown to be suitable for the investigated concentration range, i.e. 10-100 ppbv (69-921 microg m(-3)). A flow rate of 25 mL min(-1) or higher resulted in breakthrough after 8 h due to chromatography of the compounds in the adsorbent. The limit of detection (LOD) for the air sampling method is nearly 500 times lower than the OEL. The denuder tubes can be prepared at least 10 days prior to sampling without degradation of performance. Furthermore, they can be stored up to 6 days in a freezer after sampling without significant loss of analytes.  相似文献

A simple, rapid and sensitive flow injection spectrophotometric method for determination of selenium (0.005-1.5 mug ml(-1)) is described. The method is based on the catalytic effect of Se(IV) on the reduction reaction of thionine (TN) with sulphide ion, monitored spectrophotometrically at 598 nm. The detection limit is 5 ng ml(-1) the relative standard deviation for eight replicate measurements is 1.1% for 1 mug ml(-1) of selenium. The sampling rate is 25-30 samples h(-1). The procedure was applied successfully to the determination of selenium in real samples.  相似文献

A method has been developed for the determination of gaseous nitric acid in air based on its separation from particulate nitrate aerosol using diffusion denuder tubes. An integrated value of nitric acid concentration in air is obtained. The experimentally derived absorption efficiencies of the diffusion denuder tubes ranged from 87.6 to 96.9%. The standard deviation of the method was calculated as 0.10 mug/m(3) for nitric acid concentrations in the range 0.54-1.72 mug/m(3). A correction procedure, using two diffusion denuders in series, should be applied if measurements are made in the presence of high levels of nitrogen oxides.  相似文献

This paper reports the results of an optimisation study for a procedure to determine the total selenium and its inorganic species, Se(IV) and Se(VI) using atomic absorption spectrometry combined with hydride generation and in-situ trapping of the analyte on the inner walls of the graphite tube. With the use of the proposed modification, a detection limit (3σ) of 0.018 ng/ml is achieved. This paper presents exemplary results, according to the proposed procedure, for selenium determination in samples of marine water. The concentrations of selenium in the samples ranged from <0.02 ng/ml to 0.16ng/ml of Se(IV) and from <0.02 ng/ml to 0.10 ng/ml of Se(VI).  相似文献

An analytical methodology using thermal-desorption cold trap (TCT) and GC-MS was developed for the determination of the insecticide fenitrothion and its main metabolites, 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol and fenitrooxon, in forestry atmospheres. The sampled atmosphere was pumped through a glass tube containing 100 mg of Tenax adsorbent at a flow rate of 50 ml min(-1). Adsorption/thermal desorption and breakthrough experiments were performed to test the ability to quantitatively trap the compounds. The detection limits of method for these compounds ranged between 1.6 and 2.1 ng m(-3). This methodology was developed to evaluate the persistence of fenitrothion in forest atmospheres after treatment. Spray application at 21.5 mg active ingredient m(-2) resulted in atmosphere levels of the insecticide of 78.3 ng m(-3) (after 2 h of application). Within 2-4 days following treatment, the presence of fenitrooxon fell to 50-55%. During this period residues of metabolites began to appear, disappearing 19 days later.  相似文献

We describe an inexpensive, compact parallel plate diffusion denuder coupled capillary IC system for the determination of soluble ionogenic atmospheric trace gases. The active sampling area (0.6x10 cm) of the denuder is formed in a novel manner by thermally bonding silica gel particles to the surface of Plexiglas plates. The effluent liquid from the parallel plate diffusion denuder is collected and preconcentrated on a capillary preconcentrator column before analysis using a capillary ion chromatograph. Using SO(2) as the test gas, collection efficiency is essentially quantitative at air sampling rates up to 500 ml min(-1). The system provides a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.6 parts per trillion for SO(2) for a 10 min sampling period.  相似文献

A method is presented for the determination of selenium, based on the catalytic effect of selenium(IV) on the reduction reaction of BrO(-)(3) by N(2)H(4).2HCl. The decolourization of Methyl Orange by the reaction products was used to monitor the reaction spectrophotometrically at 525 nm. This method is precise, highly sensitive, simple, rapid, widely applicable and selective for the determination of selenium(IV) and total selenium. The variables which affected the reaction rate were fully investigated and the optimum conditions were established. Selenium, as low as 1 ng/ml, can be determined by this method. The relative standard deviation of 20 ng of selenium was 0.94% (N = 10). The method was applied to the determination of Se(IV) in a health-care product.  相似文献

Selenium has been determined in different parts of the Lecythis ollaria (LO) plant (Venezuela) and the determination of its speciation has been achieved in fruit seeds. The study has been performed using different analytical techniques including inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry (DPCSV), instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS). Different parts of the plant (leaves, bark, capsules and seeds) were examined as well as the soil where LO was growing. Among different considered parts, seeds show the highest content in selenium (5 g kg−1) which is dependent on the maturation extent of the fruit. In seeds, about half of the total selenium content is soluble in water while the remaining is involved in protein structure. In the aqueous fraction, the prevailing form of selenium appears to be seleno-cystathionine with much lower amounts of Se(VI) and Se(IV).  相似文献
