An Yb(II) complex with dimethyl ester of oxydiacetic acid, [Yb(CH(3)OOCCH(2)OCH(2)COOCH(3))3](ClO4)2, has been obtained by electrochemical reduction and its crystal structure has been determined. The complex cations have the D3 (32) crystallographic symmetry. The compound shows a very broad absorption band, starting from 500 nm towards the UV region, and traces of luminescence with a maximum at 545 nm. The performed density functional theory (DFT) calculations have shown that the absorption band results from mixed f-d and charge transfer transitions, and the empty antibonding pi* orbitals of the ester groups quench the luminescence.  相似文献

The first dialkyl-substituted silicon-chalcogen doubly bonded compounds [R2Si=X; R2=1,1,4,4-tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)butane-1,4-diyl, X = S (4), Se (5), and Te (6)]were synthesized by the reactions of an isolable dialkylsilylene R2Si: (3) with phosphine sulfide, elemental selenium, and elemental tellurium, respectively. Systematic changes of characteristics of silicon-chalcogen double bonds are elucidated by X-ray analysis, UV-vis spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. In the solid state, the unsaturated silicon atom in 4-6 adopts planar geometry and the extent of the shortening of Si=X double bonds from the corresponding Si-X single bonds decreases in the order 4 > 5 > 6. In the absorption spectra of 4-6, pi -->pi* transition bands are observed distinctly in addition to n -->pi* transition bands. Both the n -->pi* and pi -->pi* transitions are red-shifted in the order 4 < 5 < 6, and the difference between the energies of the two transitions is kept almost constant among 4-6. The tendency is explained using the qualitative perturbation theory and is reproduced by the DFT calculations for model silanechalcogenones. Addition reactions of water, methanol, and isoprene to 4-6 are reported.  相似文献

The electronic states of different conformations of platinum acetylides Pt(PH3)2(C[triple bond]C-Ph)2 and Pt(PH3)2(C[triple bond]C-PhC[triple bond]C-Ph)2 (PE1 and PE2) were calculated with density functional theory (DFT) using effective core potential basis sets. Time dependent DFT calculations of UV absorption spectra showed strong dependence of the intense absorption band maxima on mutual orientation of the phenyl rings with respect to the P-Pt-P axis. Geometry optimization of the first excited triplet state (T1) indicates broken symmetry structure with the excitation being localized in one ligand. This splits the two substitution ligands into a nondistorted aromatic ring with the C[triple bond]C-Ph bonds for one side and into a quinoid structure with a cumulenic C=C=C link on the other side. Quadratic response (QR) calculations of spin-orbit coupling and phosphorescence radiative lifetime (tauR) indicated a good agreement with experimental tauR values reported for solid PE1 and PE2 and PE2 capped with dendrimers in tetrahydrofuran solutions. The QR calculations reproduced an increase of tauR upon prolongation of pi chain of ligands and concommittant redshift of the phosphorescence. Moreover, it is shown how the phosphorescence borrows intensity from sigma-->pi* transitions localized at the C[triple bond]C-Pt-P fragments and that there is no intensity borrowing from delocalized pi-->pi* transitions.  相似文献

The electronic absorption spectra of: 2-, 3-, and 4-azidopyridines have been investigated in a wide variety of polar and non-polar solvents. According to Onsager model, the studied spectra indicate that the orientation polarization of solvent dipoles affects the electronic spectrum much stronger than the induction polarization of solvent dipoles. The effect of solvent dipole moment predominates that of solvent refractive index in determining the values of band maxima of an electronic spectrum. The spectra of azidopyridines differ basically from these of pyridine or mono-substituted pyridine. Results at hand indicate that the azide group perturbs the pyridine ring in the case of 3-azidopyridine much more than it does in the case of 2-azidopyridine. This result agrees with the predictions of the resonance theory. Although the equilibrium <==> azide tetrazole is well known, yet the observed spectra prove that such an equilibrium does not exist at the studied conditions. The spectra of the studied azidopyridines are characterized by the existence of overlapping transitions. Gaussian analysis is used to obtain nice, resolved spectra. All the observed bands correspond to pi-->pi* transitions, n-->pi* may be overlapped with the stronger pi-->pi* ones.  相似文献

We present a combined Density Functional/Time Dependent Density Functional study of the molecular structure, electronic states, and optical absorption spectrum of [Ru(4,4'-COOH-2,2'-bpy)(2)(NCS)(2)], a widely used charge-transfer sensitizer in nanocrystalline TiO(2) solar cells. Calculations have been performed both for the complex in vacuo and in ethanol and water solvents, using a continuum model to account for solute-solvent interactions. Inclusion of the solvent leads to important changes of the energies and composition of the molecular orbitals of the complex; as a consequence, whereas the computed spectrum for the Ru-complex in vacuo deviates from the experimental one in both energy and shape, the spectra calculated in the presence of the solvent are in good agreement with the experiment. The first two absorption bands are found to originate from mixed ruthenium-NCS to bipyridine-pi* transitions rather than to pure metal-to-ligand-charge-transfer (MLCT) transitions, whereas the third band arises from intraligand pi --> pi* transitions. The experimentally observed blue-shift of the spectrum in water with respect to ethanol is well reproduced by our calculations and appears to be related to a decreased dipole moment in the excited state.  相似文献

The excited-state properties and related photophysical processes of the acidic and basic forms of pterin have been investigated by the density functional theory and ab initio methodologies. The solvent effects on the low-lying states have been estimated by the polarized continuum model and combined QM/MM calculations. Calculations reveal that the observed two strong absorptions arise from the strong pi --> pi* transitions to 1(pipi*L(a)) and 1(pipi*L(b)) in the acidic and basic forms of pterin. The first 1(pipi*L(a)) excited state is exclusively responsible for the experimental emission band. The vertical 1(n(N)pi*) state with a small oscillator strength, slightly higher in energy than the 1(pipi*L(a)) state, is less accessible by the direct electronic transition. The 1(n(N)pi*) state may be involved in the photophysical process of the excited pterin via the 1(pipi*L(a)/n(N)pi*) conical intersection. The radiationless decay of the excited PT to the ground state experiences a barrier of 13.8 kcal/mol for the acidic form to reach the (S(1)/S(0)) conical intersection. Such internal conversion can be enhanced with the increase in excitation energy, which will reduce the fluorescence intensity as observed experimentally.  相似文献

The electronic circular dichoism (ECD) of L-alanine in the vacuum-ultraviolet region was calculated for various optimized structures using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) to assign the CD spectrum observed experimentally in aqueous solution down to 140 nm [Matsuo, et al. Chem. Lett. 2002, 826]. The structure of L-alanine in vacuo was optimized using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-31G* level. Its hydrated structure was optimized with nine water molecules (six and three around carboxyl and amino groups, respectively) using DFT and a continuum model (Onsager model). The dihedral angles of carboxyl and amino groups in the optimized hydrated structure differed greatly from those in the crystal and in nonhydrated structures optimized using a continuum model only. The ECD spectrum calculated for the hydrated structure had two successive positive peaks with molar ellipticities of about 2000 deg cm2 dmol(-1) at around 205 and 185 nm, which were close to those observed experimentally. These positive peaks were attributable to n pi* transitions of the carboxyl group, with the latter peak also influenced by the pi pi* transition of the carboxyl group that originates below 175 nm. A small negative peak observed at around 252 nm was also predicted from the hydrated structure. These results demonstrate that the hydrated water molecules around the zwitterions play a crucial role in stabilizing the conformation of L-alanine in aqueous solution and that TDDFT is useful for the ab initio assignment of ECD spectra down to the vacuum-ultraviolet region.  相似文献

The tautomerization equilibria of 3-hydroxy-2-mercaptopyridine (HMP) and 2,3-dihydroxypyridine (DHP) in vacuo and in ethanol solution have been studied using the density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-31Gd level. The results indicate that the thione form of HMP and the keto form of DHP are the most stable tautomers in the equilibrium, and the energy barrier for the thiol-thione and enol-keto proton transfer decreases significantly when the tautomerism is mediated by a specific ethanol molecule in solution. The time-dependent density functional theory--polarizable continuum model (TDDFT-PCM) calculations on all tautomers of HMP and DHP in vacuo and in ethanol have assigned the lowest pi --> pi* excitations of thione and keto tautomers to the observed absorption bands of HMP and DHP in solutions. The solvation is predicted to have relatively small effect on these pi --> pi* excitations in ethanol.  相似文献

The experimental UV/vis absorption spectrum of ortho-nitrobenzaldehyde (o-NBA) has been assigned by means of MS-CASPT2/CASSCF, TD-DFT, and RI-CC2 theoretical computations. Additional information on the nature of the absorbing bands was obtained by comparing the o-NBA spectrum with that of related compounds, as, e.g., nitrobenzene and benzaldehyde. For wavelengths larger than approximately 280 nm, the absorption spectrum of o-NBA is dominated by a series of weak n pi* absorptions from the NO2 and CHO groups. These weak transitions are followed in energy by a more intense band, peaking at 250 nm and arising from charge transfer pi pi* excitations involving mainly benzene and nitro orbitals. Finally, the most intense band centered at 220 nm has its origin in the overlap of two different absorptions: the first one localized in the NO2 substituent and the second one arising from a charge transfer excitation involving the NO2 and the CHO fragments, respectively.  相似文献

Replacement of 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) by substituted 1,4-diazabutadiene (R-DAB) alpha-diimine ligands N empty set N leads to a substantial hypsochromic shift of about 0.8 eV for the long-wavelength absorption band in compounds (N empty set N)Ir(C(5)Me(5)) but to a bathochromic absorption shift of about 0.4 eV for the complex ions [(N empty set N)IrCl(C(5)Me(5))](+). DFT calculations on model complexes based on experimental (R-DAB compounds) and geometry-optimized structures (bpy systems) reveal that the low-energy transitions of the cationic chloro complexes are largely of ligand-to-ligand charge-transfer character L'LCT (L = alpha-diimine, L' = Cl) whereas the neutral compounds exhibit pi --> pi transitions between the considerably mixed metal d(pi) and alpha-diimine pi orbitals. The much more pronounced metal-ligand orbital interaction for the R-DAB complexes causes the qualitatively different shifts on replacing the stronger basic bpy by the better pi-acceptors R-DAB. Only the LUMO of the neutral compounds is destabilized on replacement of bpy by R-DAB whereas the LUMO of [(N empty set N)IrCl(C(5)R'(5))](+) and both HOMOs are stabilized through this change.  相似文献

We report a theoretical study based on density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) calculations on the nature and role of the absorption bands involved in the nonlinear optical response of the complexes [Ru(CF3CO2)3T] (T = T1, T2; T1 = 4'-(C6H4-p-NBu2)-2,2':6',2'-terpyridine, T2 = 4'-(C6H4-p-NMe2)-2,2':6',2'-terpyridine). Geometry optimizations, performed without any symmetry constraints, confirm a twisting of the -C6H4-p-NBu2 moiety with respect to the plane of the chelated terpyridine. Despite this lack of strong pi interaction, TDDFT excited states calculations of the electronic spectrum in solution provide evidence of a relevant role of the NBu2 donor group in the low-energy LMCT band at 911 nm. Calculations also show that the two bands at higher energy (508 and 455 nm) are not attributable only to LMCT and ILCT transitions but to a mixing of ILCT/MLCT and ILCT/pi-pi* transitions, respectively. The 911 nm LMCT band, appearing at lower wavelength of the second harmonic (670 nm) of the EFISH experiment, controls the negative value of the second-order NLO response. This is confirmed by our calculations of the static component beta0(zzz) of the quadratic hyperpolarizability tensor, showing a large positive value. In addition we have found that the increase of the dipole moment upon excitation occurs, in all the characterized transitions, along the dipole moment axis, thus explaining why the EFISH and solvatochromic experimental values of the quadratic hyperpolarizability agree as sign and value.  相似文献

The title compound, 1-acetyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-fluoro-phenyl)-5-phenyl-pyrazoline, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Density functional (DFT) calculations have been carried out for the title compound by using B3LYP method at 6-31G* basis set. The calculated results show that the predicted geometry can well reproduce the structural parameters. Predicted vibrational frequencies have been assigned and compared with experimental IR spectra and they are supported each other. The theoretical electronic absorption spectra have been calculated by using TD-DFT method. Molecular orbital coefficients analyses suggest that the above electronic transitions are mainly assigned to n-->pi* and pi-->pi* electronic transitions. On the basis of vibrational analyses, the thermodynamic properties of the title compound at different temperatures have been calculated, revealing the correlations between C(p,m)(0),S(m)(0),H(m)(0) and temperatures.  相似文献

N-alkoxypyridine-2(1H)thiones serve as valuable photochemical alkoxyl radical precursors in photobiological studies, but due to a broad absorption band at about 360 nm (pi --> pi* excitation), these molecules decompose readily when exposed to daylight. The goal of the present work is to propose N-alkoxypyridine-2(1H)thiones which due to a blue shift of this band become more stable with respect to daylight and consequently are easier to handle. The shift of the pi --> pi* excitation toward shorter wave length shall be achieved by substituents introduced at the pyridine heterocycle. To study the substituent effects, excitations to the first to singlet states were calculated applying the CASPT2 approach and time dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). The study indeed showed that electron rich substituents (like the methoxylgroup) at the positions 3, 4, and 6 of the pyridinethione heterocycle yield the desired hypsochromic shift. A free rotation of the substituent, however, is expected to quench these effects. Fluorine atoms, employed to model the influence of electron withdrawing substituents, induce also a blue shift for a substitution at the 3, 4, and 6 positions. For the multiply fluorinated molecule N-methoxy-3,4,6-trifluorinepyridine-2(1H)thione a blue shift of even 24 nm is predicted. Substituents that can conjugate with the pi electrons of the heterocycle (NO2 served as a model) only induce strong bathochromic shifts on the pi --> pi* excitation energy and therefore are not able to eliminate the daylight sensitivity of the precursor molecules.  相似文献

Charge transfer (CT) transitions between the C-terminal carboxylate and peptide group have been investigated for alanyl-X and X-alanine dipeptides by far-UV absorption and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy (where X represents different amino acid residues). The spectra used in the present study were obtained by subtracting the spectrum of the cationic species from that of the corresponding zwitterionic peptide spectrum. These spectra displayed three bands, e.g., band I between 44 and 50 kK (kK = 10(3) cm(-1)), band II at 53 kK, and band III above 55 kK, which were, respectively, assigned to a n(COO-) --> pi* CT transition, a pi(COO-) --> pi* CT transition, and a carboxylate pi --> pi* (NV1) transition, respectively By comparison of the intensity, bandwidth, and wavenumber position of band I of some of the investigated dipeptides, we found that positive charges on the N-terminal side chain (for X = K), and to a minor extent also the N-terminal proton, reduce its intensity. This can be understood in terms of attractive Coulomb interactions that stabilize the ground state over the charge transfer state. For alanylphenylalanine, we assigned band I to a n(COO-) --> pi* CT transition into the aromatic side chain, indicating that aromatic side chains interact electronically with the backbone. We also performed ECD measurements at different pH values (pH 1-6) for a selected subset of XA and AX peptides. By subtraction of the pH 1 spectrum from that observed at pH 6, the ECD spectrum of the CT transition was obtained. A titration curve of their spectra reveals a substantial dependence on the protonation state of the aspartic acid side chain of AD, which is absent in DA and AE. This most likely reflects a conformational transition of the C-terminus into a less extended state, though the involvement of a side chain --> peptide CT transition cannot be completely ruled out.  相似文献

Site- and element-selective core-to-pi* excitation in free pyridine clusters is investigated. The experimental results indicate the occurrence of site- and size-dependent spectral shifts in the C 1s and N 1s --> pi* excitation regime. Specifically, we observe in the C 1s regime a substantial and site-dependent redshift of the low energy slopes of the C 1s --> pi* band by 90 meV in clusters relative to the bare molecule, whereas the high energy slopes of this band remain almost unchanged. In contrast, a size-dependent blueshift of the same order of magnitude is found for the entire N 1s --> pi* band. This is distinctly different from previous results on van der Waals clusters, where exclusively redshifts in 1s --> pi* transitions are observed. The experimental results are compared to ab initio calculations, which serve to simulate the 1s --> pi*( v = 0) transitions. These results clearly indicate that the spectral shifts are primarily a result of electrostatic interactions between the molecular moieties and that an antiparallel orientation of molecular units preferably dominates in variable-size pyridine clusters.  相似文献

The molecular structures and absorption spectra of triphenylamine dyes containing variable thiophene units as the spacers (TPA1-TPA3) were investigated by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT. The calculated results indicate that the strong conjugation is formed in the dyes and the length of conjugate bridge increases gradually with the increased thiophene spacers. The interfacial charge transfer between the TiO2 electrode and TPA1-TPA3 are electron injection processes from the excited dyes to the semiconductor conduction band. The simulated absorption bands are assigned to π→π* transitions, which exhibit appreciable red-shift with respect to the experimental bands due to the lack of direct solute-solvent interaction and the inherent approximations in TD-DFT. The effect of thiophene spacers on the molecular structures, absorption spectra and photovoltaic performance were comparatively discussed and points out that the choice of appropriate conjugate bridge is very important for the design of new dyes with improved performance.  相似文献

Semiempirical molecular orbital theory and semiclassical solvent effect theory are used to analyze the conformational and electronic properties of the 12-s-cis and 12-s-trans conformers of 11-cis retinal. The goal is to examine the influence of solvent environment on the equilibrium geometries of these conformers as well as to provide a perspective on the electronic transitions that contribute to the four band systems that are observed in the 200-500 nm region of the optical spectrum. We conclude that the 12-s-cis isomer is more stable in vacuum, but that the 12-s-trans conformer is preferentially stabilized in both polar and nonpolar solvent environment due to dispersive as well as electrostatic interactions. This observation is in substantial agreement with previous literature results. In contrast, our analysis of the excited state manifold indicates that the spectral features observed in the absorption spectrum are associated with a complex set of overlapping transitions. A total of 18 pi*<--pi transitions contribute to the four bands, and in some cases, conformation changes the relative contribution of the individual transitions that define the overall band shape. This study provides the first definitive assignments for all four band systems.  相似文献

The geometries, electronic structures and the electronic absorption spectra of three kinds of ruthenium complexes, which contain tridentate bipyridine-pyrazolate ancillary ligands, were studied using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT. The calculated results indicate that: (1) the strong conjugated effects are formed across the pyrazoalte-bipyridine groups; (2) the interfacial electron transfer between electrode and the dye sensitizers is an electron injection processes from the excited dyes to the conduction band of TiO2; (3) the absorption bands in visible region have a mixed character of metal-to-ligand charge transfer and ligand-to-ligand charge transfer, but the main character of absorption bands near UV region ascribe to π→π* transitions; (4) introducing pyrazolate and -NCS groups are favorable for intra-molecular charge transfer, and they are main chromophores that contribute to the sensitization of photon-to-current conversion processes, but introducing -Cl and the terminal group -CF3 are unfavorable to improve the dye performance in dye sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

Femtosecond dynamics of riboflavin, the parent chromophore of biological blue-light receptors, was measured by broadband transient absorption and stationary optical spectroscopy in polar solution. Rich photochemistry is behind the small spectral changes observed: (i) loss of oscillator strength around time zero, (ii) sub-picosecond (ps) spectral relaxation of stimulated emission (SE), and (iii) coherent vibrational motion along a' (in-) and a' (out-of-plane) modes. Loss of oscillator strength is deduced from the differences in the time-zero spectra obtained in water and DMSO, with stationary spectroscopy and fluorescence decay measurements providing additional support. The spectral difference develops faster than the time resolution (20 fs) and is explained by formation of a superposition state between the optically active (1pi pi*) S1 and closely lying dark (1n pi*) states via vibronic coupling. Subsequent spectral relaxation involves decay of weak SE in the blue, 490 nm, together with rise and red shift of SE at 550 nm. The process is controlled by solvation (characteristic times 0.6 and 0.8 ps in water and DMSO, respectively). Coherent oscillations for a' and a' modes show up in different regions of the SE band. a' modes emerge in the blue edge of the SE and dephase faster than solvation. In turn, a' oscillations are found in the SE maximum and dephase on the solvation timescale. The spectral distribution of coherent oscillations according to mode symmetry is used to assign the blue edge of the SE band to a 1n pi*-like state (A'), whereas the optically active 1pi pi* (A') state emits around the SE maximum. The following model comes out: optical excitation occurs to the Franck-Condon pi pi* state, a pi pi*-n pi* superposition state is formed on an ultrafast timescale, vibrational coherence is transferred from a' to a' modes by pi pi*-n pi* vibronic coupling, and subsequent solvation dynamics alters the pi pi*/n pi* population ratio.  相似文献
