By using photovoltaic technology, ambient solar light can be directly converted to electricity. The photovoltaic technology has been regarded as one of the most important and promising strategies to resolve the worldwide energy and pollution problems. As one type of photovoltaic technology, polymer solar cells have attracted increasing interest due to their advantages of solution processing capability, low-cost, feasibility to be fabricated on flexible substrates etc. Not until a few years ago, the fullerene derivatives had been dominated the organic photovoltaic field as the most promising acceptor materials for polymer solar cells. However, fullerene-based polymer solar cells have a power conversion efficiency bottleneck due to the relatively fixed energy levels as well as the fixed bandgaps of fullerene derivatives. Therefore, researchers started to develop nonfullerene acceptors which can be used as alternatives to replace the traditional fullerene derivatives. Compared to the fullerene derivatives, nonfullerene acceptors offer several advantages such as stronger light absorption, tunable bandgaps and frontier molecular orbital energy levels. For nonfullerene acceptors, a ladder-type fused ring is usually used as the central core which is an essential building block to tailor the bandgaps and energy levels. Although many fused ring systems have been explored for efficient nonfullerene acceptors, ladder-type angular-shape dithienonaphthalene is seldom reported as the donor unit for nonfullerene acceptors. Furthermore, the impact of thiophene bridge on the optical and photovoltaic properties of the dithienonaphthalene-based nonfullerene acceptors has never been reported. In this context, we report on the design and synthesis of a dithienonaphthalene-based small-molecule acceptor which contains thiophene bridges in between the acceptor terminals and the fused-ring donor core. Compared to the dithienonaphthalene-based small-molecule without the thiophene bridges, the resulting acceptor (DTNIT) exhibits a reduced bandgap of 1.52 eV which makes it more suitable to be blended with the benchmark large bandgap copolymer, poly[(2, 6-(4, 8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)-benzo[1, 2-b: 4, 5-b']dithiophene))-alt-(5, 5-(1', 3'-di-2-thienyl-5', 7'-bis(2-ethylhexyl)benzo[1', 2'-c:4', 5'-c']dithiophene-4, 8-dione)] (PBDB-T). The reduced band-gap of the resulting nonfullerene acceptor can be attributed to its extended π-conjugation in comparison with the dithienonaphthalene-based acceptor without the thiophene bridges. Inverted polymer solar cells with a device configuration of indium tin oxide/ZnO/PBDB-T:DTNIT/MoO3/Ag were fabricated and characterized. Polymer solar cells based on PBDB-T:DTNIT showed an open circuit voltage of 0.91 V, an enhanced short circuit current of 14.42 mA∙cm−2, and a moderate PCE of 7.05% which is comparable to the PCE of 7.12% for the inverted device based on PBDB-T:PC71BM. Our results not only provide a method to synthesize efficient nonfullerene acceptors with reduced bandgaps, but also offer a bandgap modulation strategy for nonfullerene acceptors.  相似文献

The harnessing of heavy atom effect of chalcogen elements offers a way for boosting the thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) of purely organic luminescent materials that can harvest triplet excitons. However, the conformational and electronic variations induced by the heavy and large atoms may also have adverse effects on the TADF properties. Herein, the design, synthesis, and structures of a new type of through-space charge transfer (TSCT) emitters containing benzothiazino[2,3,4-kl]phenothiazine (DPTZ) as the donor unit are reported. The influences of S atoms on the emission properties have been systematically investigated by means of theoretical simulations, electrochemical and spectroscopic studies. Although the presence of π-stacking interactions and calculated spin-orbit coupling (SOC) values are beneficial for TSCT-TADF properties, the triplet TSCT states are uplifted to above the locally excited (LE) state of the acceptor moieties. As a result, the new emitters display longer delayed fluorescence lifetimes (τDF) of 255.0–114.3 μs and lower PLQYs of 45–61 % in comparison with the O-containing congeners (τDF=26.9–6.8 μs; PLQYs=74–71 %). This work highlights that a full consideration of various effects is essential when making use of heavy chalcogen atoms for the design of TADF emitters.  相似文献

The synthesis, X‐ray crystal structures, ground‐ and excited‐state UV/Vis absorption spectra, and luminescence properties of chalcogen‐doped organic emitters equipped on both extremities with benzoxa‐, benzothia‐, benzoselena‐ and benzotellurazole ( 1X and 2X ) moieties have been reported for the first time. The insertion of the four different chalcogen atoms within the same molecular skeleton enables the investigation of only the chalcogenic effect on the organisation and photophysical properties of the material. Detailed crystal‐structure analyses provide evidence of similar packing for 2O – 2Se , in which the benzoazoles are engaged in π–π stacking and, for the heavier atoms, in secondary X???X and X???N bonding interactions. Detailed computational analysis shows that the arrangement is essentially governed by the interplay of van der Waals and secondary bonding interactions. Progressive quenching of the fluorescence and concomitant onset of phosphorescence features with gradually shorter lifetimes are detected as the atomic weight of the chalcogen heteroatom increases, with the tellurium‐doped derivatives exhibiting only emission from the lowest triplet excited state. Notably, the phosphorescence spectra of the selenium and tellurium derivatives can be recorded even at room temperature; this is a very rare finding for fully organic emitters.  相似文献

Triplet acceptors have been developed to construct high‐performance organic solar cells (OSCs) as the long lifetime and diffusion range of triplet excitons may dissociate into free charges instead of net recombination when the energy levels of the lowest triplet state (T1) are close to those of charge‐transfer states (3CT). The current triplet acceptors were designed by introducing heavy atoms to enhance the intersystem crossing, limiting their applications. Herein, two twisted acceptors without heavy atoms, analogues of Y6, constructed with large π‐conjugated core and D‐A structure, were confirmed to be triplet materials, leading to high‐performance OSCs. The mechanism of triplet excitons were investigated to show that the twisted and D‐A structures result in large spin–orbit coupling (SOC) and small energy gap between the singlet and triplet states, and thus efficient intersystem crossing. Moreover, the energy level of T1 is close to 3CT, facilitating the split of triplet exciton to free charges.  相似文献

Organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) are a promising cost-effective alternative to silicon-based solar cells, and possess light-weight, low-cost, and flexibility advantages. Significant progress has been achieved in the development of novel photovoltaic materials and device structures in the last decade. Nowadays small molecular semiconductors for OPVs have attracted considerable attention, due to their advantages over their polymer counterparts, including well-defined molecular structure, definite molecular weight, and high purity without batch to batch variations. The highest power conversion efficiencies of OPVs based on small molecular donor/fullerene acceptors or polymeric donor/fullerene acceptors are up to 6.7% and 8.3%, respectively, and meanwhile nonfullerene acceptors have also exhibited some promising results. In this review we summarize the developments in small molecular donors, acceptors (fullerene derivatives and nonfullerene molecules), and donor-acceptor dyad systems for high-performance multilayer, bulk heterojunction, and single-component OPVs. We focus on correlations of molecular chemical structures with properties, such as absorption, energy levels, charge mobilities, and photovoltaic performances. This structure-property relationship analysis may guide rational structural design and evaluation of photovoltaic materials (253 references).  相似文献

By using density functional theory (DFT) method at the B3LYP/6-311+G level, it has been shown that the preference for the singlet-state phenyl cation can be dramatically increased relative to the triplet state by introducing onium cationic substituents in the para position. At this level of theory, the singlet ground state for the parent phenyl cation was found to be lower than the triplet by 19.6 kcal/mol. Introduction of electron-donating substituent groups, namely -NMe(2), -NH(2), and -SMe in the para position, strongly favors the triplet state. The -OMe and -SH groups cause a similar but smaller effect, whereas -OH substitution results in an energetically identical system. Protonation of these substituent groups form onium-phenyl dications for which a complete reversal of the relative stabilities in favor of the singlet ground state are indicated with -SH(2)(+), -SMeH(+), and -NH(3)(+) showing the largest singlet/triplet energy difference. The -N(2)(+) group in the para position has a similar effect. Benzannelation also increases the relative stability of triplet aryl cation. Whereas the 1-naphththyl and 2-naphthyl cations are energetically identical, in the 9-anthracenyl cation the triplet minimum lies 13.4 kcal/mol below the singlet minimum. Introduction of activating groups, i.e., OH and NMe(2) at the 4-position of the 1-naphthyl cation, greatly increases the relative stability of the triplet state. Upon heteroatom protonation, the singlet/triplet energy gap is substantially narrowed but the triplet state still remains lower in energy. Structural features in the resulting dications are discussed and compared with the corresponding monocations. The NBO charges at the cationic centers were also compared. We have also calculated the dediazoniation and decarbonylation energetics for mono- and bis-o-trimethylsilyl-substituted benzenediazonium and benzoyl cation to aryl cations in order to probe the effect of beta-silyl stabilization of the positive charge.  相似文献

Establishment of the structure–property relationships of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials has become a significant quest for the scientific community. Herein, two new donors, 10H‐benzofuro[3,2‐b]indole (BFI) and 10H‐benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2‐b]indole (BTI), have been developed and integrated with a aryltriazine acceptor to design the green TADF emitters benzofuro[3,2‐b]indol‐10‐yl)‐5‐(4,6‐diphenyl‐1,3,5‐triazin‐2‐yl)benzonitrile ( BFICNTrz ) and 2‐(10H‐benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2‐b]indol‐10‐yl)‐5‐(4,6‐diphenyl‐1,3,5‐triazin‐2‐yl)benzonitrile ( BTICNTrz ), respectively. The physicochemical and electroluminescence properties of the compounds were tuned by exchanging the heteroatom in the donor scaffold. Intriguingly, the electronegativity of the heteroatom and the ionization potential of the donor unit played vital roles in control of the singlet–triplet energy splitting and TADF mechanism of the compounds. Both compounds showed similar singlet excited states that originated from the charge transfer (CT) states (1CT), whereas the triplet excited states were tuned by the heteroatom in the donor unit. The origin of phosphorescence in the BTICNTrz emitter was CT emission from the triplet state (3CT), whereas that in the BFICNTrz emitter stemmed from the local triplet excited state (3LE). Consequently, BTICNTrz showed a small singlet–triplet energy splitting of 0.08 eV, compared with 0.26 eV for BFICNTrz . Thus, BTICNTrz showed efficient delayed fluorescence with a high quantum yield and a short delayed exciton lifetime, whereas BFICNTrz displayed weak delayed fluorescence with a relatively long lifetime. Furthermore, a BTICNTrz ‐based device exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 15.2 % and reduced efficiency roll‐off (12 %) compared with its BFICNTrz ‐based counterpart, which showed a maximum EQE of 6.4 % and severe efficiency roll‐off (55 %) at a practical brightness range of 1000 cd m?2. These results demonstrate that the choice of subunit plays a vital role in the design of efficient TADF emitters.  相似文献

The spectral and kinetic properties of reduced radicals and the triplet state of neutral red (NR), a phenazine-based dye, have been investigated using pulse radiolysis technique. A mixed water-isopropanol-acetone solvent has been used to study the reduced radicals of NR for a wide pH range of about 1-13, due to limitation of solubility of the dye in aqueous solutions particularly above pH 8. From pH-dependent absorption studies it has been established that the reduced radicals of NR can exist in four different prototropic forms in solution. Three pKa values for the corresponding prototropic equilibria have been estimated. The formation and decay rate constants of reduced radicals have also been measured. The triplet state characteristics of the dye have been investigated in neat benzene solutions, both in the presence and in the absence of triplet sensitizers. The T1-->Tn absorption spectrum and decay kinetics of the triplet state have been measured. The triplet state energy (ET) of NR in benzene have been estimated to be within 36-42 kcal mol-1, using an energy transfer method.  相似文献

We have performed a computational study on the properties of a series of heterocycles bearing two adjacent heteroatoms, focusing on the structures and electronic properties of their first excited triplet states. If the heteroatoms are both heavy chalcogens (S, Se, or Te) or isoelectronic species, then the lowest excited triplet state usually has (π*, σ*) character. The triplet energies are fairly low (30-50 kcal mol(-1)). The (π*, σ*) triplet states are characterized by a significantly lengthened bond between the two heteroatoms. Thus, in 1,2-dithiolane (1b), the S-S bond length is calculated to be 2.088 ? in the singlet ground state and 2.568 ? in the first triplet excited state. The spin density is predicted to be localized almost exclusively on the sulfur atoms. Replacing one heavy chalcogen atom by an oxygen atom or an NR group results in a significant destabilization of the (π*, σ*) triplet excited state, which then no longer is lower in energy than an open-chain biradical. The size of the heterocyclic ring also contributes to the stability of the (π*, σ*) triplet state, with five-membered rings being more favorable than six-membered rings. Benzoannulation, finally, usually lowers the energy of the (π*, σ*) triplet excited states. If one of the heteroatoms is an oxygen or nitrogen atom, however, the corresponding lowest triplet states are better described as σ,π-biradicals.  相似文献

The high‐yielding synthesis of 2‐substituted benzo‐1,3‐tellurazoles and benzo‐1,3‐selenazoles through a dehydrative cyclization reaction has been reported, giving access to a large variety of benzo‐1,3‐chalcogenazoles. Exceptionally, these aromatic heterocycles proved to be very stable and thus very handy to form controlled solid‐state organizations in which wire‐like polymeric structures are formed through secondary N???Y bonding interactions (SBIs) engaging the chalcogen (Y=Se or Te) and nitrogen atoms. In particular, it has been shown that the recognition properties of the chalcogen centre at the solid state could be programmed by selectively barring one of its σ‐holes through a combination of electronic and steric effects exerted by the substituent at the 2‐position. As predicted by the electrostatic potential surfaces calculated by quantum chemical modelling, the pyridyl groups revealed to be the stronger chalcogen bonding acceptors, and thus the best ligand candidate for programming the molecular organization at the solid state. In contrast, the thiophenyl group is an unsuitable substituent for establishing SBIs in this molecular system as it gives rise to chalcogen–chalcogen repulsion. The weaker chalcogen donor properties of the Se analogues trigger the formation of feeble N???Se contacts, which are manifested in similar solid‐state polymers featuring longer nitrogen–chalcogen distances.  相似文献

Over the past decades, fullerene derivatives have become the most successful electron acceptors in organic solar cells (OSCs) and have achieved great progress, with power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of over 11 %. However, fullerenes have some drawbacks, such as weak absorption, limited energy‐level tunability, and morphological instability. In addition, fullerene‐based OSCs usually suffer from large energy losses of over 0.7 eV, which limits further improvements in the PCE. Recently, nonfullerene small molecules have emerged as promising electron acceptors in OSCs. Their highly tunable absorption spectra and molecular energy levels have enabled fine optimization of the resulting devices, and the highest PCE has surpassed 12 %. Furthermore, several studies have shown that OSCs based on small‐molecule acceptors (SMA) have very efficient charge generation and transport efficiency at relatively low energy losses of below 0.6 eV, which suggests great potential for the further improvement of OSCs. In this focus review, we analyze the challenges and potential of SMA‐based OSCs and discuss molecular design strategies for highly efficient SMAs.  相似文献

The development of nonfullerene small molecular acceptors (NF-SMAs) has dominated the improvement of efficiencies for organic solar cells and the near-infrared (NIR) absorption is the primary feature of NF-SMAs compared with fullerene derivatives. In this article, a series of acceptor-donor-acceptor-structured NF-SMAs (named CPICs ) containing 4H-cyclopenta[1,2-b : 5,4-b′]dithiophene (CPDT) electron donor and F-substituted 2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (2FIC) as electron acceptor were designed and synthesized. With the increase of CPDT units, the elongated conjugations broadened the absorption range of the acceptors and tuned their energy levels sequentially. Therefore, their charge-transporting polarities switched from electron-only type to bipolar mode in organic field-effect transistors. Moreover, these changes also influenced the voltages, current densities, and eventual PCEs of their corresponding cells. When blending with PBDB-T, a champion efficiency of 10.01% was achieved in CPIC-2 based cells. This work demonstrated the importance of absorptions, suitable energy levels and charge transports in improving the efficiencies of organic solar cells.  相似文献

The triplet-state characteristics of the Cy5 molecule related to trans-cis isomerization are investigated by means of ensemble and single molecule measurements. Cy5 has been used frequently in the past 10 years in single molecule spectroscopic applications, e.g., as a probe or fluorescence resonance energy transfer acceptor in large biomolecules. However, the unknown spectral properties of the triplet state and the lack of knowledge on the photoisomerization do not allow us to interpret precisely the unexpected single molecule behaviors. This limits the application of Cy5. The laser photolysis experiments demonstrate that the trans triplet state of Cy5 absorbs about 625 nm, the cis ground state absorbs about 690 nm, and the cis triplet state also absorbs about 690 nm. In other words, the T1-Tn absorptions largely overlap the ground-state absorptions for both trans and cis isomers, respectively. Furthermore, the observation of the cis triplet state indicates an important isomerization pathway from the trans-S1 state to the cis-T1 state upon excitation. The detailed spectra presented in this article let us clearly interpret the exact mechanisms responsible for several important and unexpected photophysical behaviors of single Cy5 molecules such as reverse intersystem crossing (RISC), the observation of dim states with a lower emission intensity and slightly red-shifted fluorescence, and unusual energy transfer from donor molecules to dark Cy5 molecules acting as acceptors in single molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) measurements. Spectral results show that the dim state in the single molecule fluorescence intensity time traces originated from cis-Cy5 because of a lower excitation rate, resulting from the red-shifted ground-state absorption of cis-Cy5 compared to that of the trans-Cy5.  相似文献

This article sheds new light on the interplay of electronic and conformational effects in luminescent bipolar molecules. A series of carbazole/1,3,4-oxadiazole hybrid molecules is described in which the optoelectronic properties are systematically varied by substituent effects which tune the intramolecular torsion angles. The synthesis, photophysical properties, cyclic voltammetric data, X-ray crystal structures, and DFT calculations are presented. Excited state intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) is observed from the donor carbazole/2,7-dimethoxycarbazole to the acceptor phenyl/diphenyloxadiazole moieties. Introducing more bulky substituents onto the diphenyloxadiazole fragment systematically increases the singlet and triplet energy levels (E(S) and E(T)) and blue shifts the absorption and emission bands. The triplet excited state is located mostly on the oxadiazole unit. The introduction of 2,7-dimethoxy substituents onto the carbazole moiety lowers the value of E(S), although E(T) is unaffected, which means that the singlet-triplet gap is reduced (for 7bE(S) - E(T) = 0.61 eV). A strategy has been established for achieving unusually high triplet levels for bipolar molecules (E(T) = 2.64-2.78 eV at 14 K) while at the same time limiting the increase in the singlet energy.  相似文献

The effect of the heteroatom on the energy characteristics of their boundary molecular Orbitals was studied by investigation of the charge-transfer complexes (CTC) of the dibenzo derivatives of five-membered heterocycles. Tetramethyl-substituted dibenzo derivatives of five-membered heterocycles were investigated as electron donors, and their corresponding dianhydrides were investigated as electron acceptors. Their ionization potentials and electron affinities, respectively, were determined. From the regularities in the change in these characteristics it was concluded that replacement of one heteroatom by another leads to approximately identical energy shifts of both boundary molecular orbitals.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 2, pp. 185–187, February, 1979.  相似文献

The unprecedented dependence of final charge separation efficiency as a function of donor–acceptor interaction in covalently‐linked molecules with a rectilinear rigid oligo‐p‐xylene bridge has been observed. Optimization of the donor–acceptor electronic coupling remarkably inhibits the undesirable rapid decay of the singlet charge‐separated state to the ground state, yielding the final long‐lived, triplet charge‐separated state with circa 100 % efficiency. This finding is extremely useful for the rational design of artificial photosynthesis and organic photovoltaic cells toward efficient solar energy conversion.  相似文献

The photophysics of two symmetric triads, (ZnP)2PBI and (H2P)2PBI, made of two zinc or free-base porphyrins covalently attached to a central perylene bisimide unit has been investigated in dichloromethane and in toluene. The solvent has been shown to affect not only quantitatively but also qualitatively the photophysical behavior. A variety of intercomponent processes (singlet energy transfer, triplet energy transfer, photoinduced charge separation, and recombination) have been time-resolved using a combination of emission spectroscopy and femtosecond and nanosecond time-resolved absorption techniques yielding a very detailed picture of the photophysics of these systems. The singlet excited state of the lowest energy chromophore (perylene bisimide in the case of (ZnP)2PBI, porphyrin in the case of (H2P)2PBI) is always quantitatively populated, besides by direct light absorption, by ultrafast singlet energy transfer (few picosecond time constant) from the higher energy chromophore. In dichloromethane, the lowest excited singlet state is efficiently quenched by electron transfer leading to a charge-separated state where the porphyrin is oxidized and the perylene bisimide is reduced. The systems then go back to the ground state by charge recombination. The four charge separation and recombination processes observed for (ZnP)2PBI and (H2P)2PBI in dichloromethane take place in the sub-nanosecond time scale. They obey standard free-energy correlations with charge separation lying in the normal regime and charge recombination in the Marcus inverted region. In less polar solvents, such as toluene, the energy of the charge-separated states is substantially lifted leading to sharp changes in photophysical mechanism. With (ZnP)2PBI, the electron-transfer quenching is still fast, but charge recombination takes place now in the nanosecond time scale and to triplet state products rather than to the ground state. Triplet-triplet energy transfer from the porphyrin to the perylene bisimide is also involved in the subsequent deactivation of the triplet manifold to the ground state. With (H2P)2PBI, on the other hand, the driving force for charge separation is too small for electron-transfer quenching, and the deactivation of the porphyrin excited singlet takes place via intersystem crossing to the triplet followed by triplet energy transfer to the perylene bisimide and final decay to the ground state.  相似文献
