In this work, a novel multifunctional organic‐inorganic hybrid flame agent (AM‐MEL) was prepared from magnesium hydroxide nanosheets decorated by nitrilotrimethylene triphosphonic acid and melamine. Then, an intrinsic flame‐retardant epoxy resin (EP) was prepared by covalently incorporating AM‐MEL nanoparticles. Meanwhile, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) was added into EP to form an intumescent flame retardant system with AM‐MEL. The chemical structure of AM‐MEL was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. With the incorporation of 5 wt% AM‐MEL and 15 wt% APP, EP/AM‐MEL/APP could reach a limiting oxygen index value of 32.0% and achieve UL‐94 V‐0 rating, along with 88.0%, 70.0%, 81.5%, and 87.3% decrease in the peak heat release rate, total heat release, total smoke production, and the peak CO production rate, respectively, with respect to that of pure EP. The mechanisms of its flame retardant and smoke suppression were investigated.  相似文献

A novel toughened cyanate ester (CE) resin with good dielectric properties and thermal stability was developed by copolymerizing 2,2′‐bis(4‐cyanatophenyl)iso‐propylidene (BCE) with a combined modifier (HBPSiEP) made up of hyperbranched polysiloxane (HBPSi) and epoxy (EP) resin. HBPSi was synthesized through the hydrolysis of 3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate. The effect of differing stoichiometries of HBPSiEP on the curing characteristics and performance of BCE resin is discussed. Results show that the incorporation of HBPSiEP can not only effectively promote the curing reaction of BCE, but can also significantly improve the toughness of the cured BCE resin. In addition, the toughening effect of HBPSiEP is greater than single EP resin. For example, the impact strength of modified BCE resin with 30 wt% of HBPSiEP is 23.3 KJ/m2, which is more than 2.5 times of that of pure BCE resin, while the maximum impact strength of EP/BCE resin is about 2 times of pure BCE resin. It is worthy to note that HBPSiEP/BCE resins also exhibit improved thermal stability, dielectric properties, and flame retardancy, suggesting that the novel toughened CE resins have great potentiality to be used as a matrix for advanced functional composites or electronic packing resins. This paper presents the influence of Aluminum Nitride (AlN) nanoparticles on the electrical and material properties of epoxy resin (EP). The EP/AlN nanocomposites with different concentrations of nano-AlN fillers are prepared. The dispersion of the nano-AlN particles in the composites is analyzed by a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The electrical properties are investigated by the space charge and DC conductivity measurements, whereas the material properties are studied by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The results show that the homo-charge accumulation appears near both electrodes during the polarization, but there are limited negative charges left near both electrodes in the depolarization for the pure EP sample. There is no space charge accumulation in the 1 wt% and 2 wt% EP/AlN nanocomposites. The electric field distortion of the pure EP sample is 20%. Moreover, the electric field distortion initially decreases with the increase of the nano-AlN content, but it increases for the 2 wt% nano-AlN sample. Temperature has a dominant influence on the DC conductivity of the EP/AlN nanocomposites comparing to the pure EP. However, the DC conductivity of the nanocomposites becomes stable at high temperatures. It is also found that the weight loss of the samples decreases with the addition of the nano-AlN and the 1 wt% nano-AlN sample has the highest glass transition temperature. It is elucidated that the high apparent mobility and activation energy facilitate the space charge transport and suppressing the space charge accumulation. Furthermore, the nano-AlN filler can increase the trap level and trap energy density of the deep traps in the sample. The dielectric loss of the EP at high frequency is reduced with the content of 1 wt% nano-AlN. Furthermore, the addition of the nano-AlN can improve the thermal stability of the EP. The 1 wt% nano-AlN sample has the superior electrical insulation and material performance amongst the tested materials.  相似文献

In order to obtain epoxy nanocomposites with excellent mechanical properties at cryogenic temperature, an efficient method to functionalize graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) is proposed. Through a simple dip-coating procedure, the GNPs were first functionalized with deposition of polydopamine coating (PDA@GNPs). Then, using polydopamine as a bridge, the PDA@GNPs were modified with amine groups after polyetheramine T403 grafting (T403-PDA@GNPs). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses proved the successful functionalization of PDA and polyetheramine T403 on the surface of GNPs. Adding 0.1 wt% T403-PDA@GNPs significantly improved the cryogenic tensile strength and impact strength of the epoxy nanocomposites by 34.5% and 64.5%, which showed greater reinforcing effect than the pristine GNPs (12.6% and 19.1%) and PDA@GNPs (26.3% and 50.1%). The results of dynamic mechanical analysis and scanning electron microscopy observations indicated that the PDA and further polyetheramine T403 functionalization improved the interfacial interactions between GNPs and matrix, which ensured the much improved mechanical properties.  相似文献

A novel phosphorus‐containing compound diphenyl‐(1, 2‐dicarboxylethyl)‐phosphine oxide defined as DPDCEPO was synthesized and used as a flame retardant curing agent for epoxy resins (EP). The chemical structure of the prepared DPDCEPO was well characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and 1H, 13C and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance. The DPDCEPO was mixed with curing agent of phthalic anhydride (PA) with various weight ratios into epoxy resins to prepare flame retardant EP thermosets. The flame retardant properties, combustion behavior and thermal analysis of the EP thermosets were respectively investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning tests (UL‐94), cone calorimeter measurement, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) tests. The surface morphologies and chemical compositions of the char residues for EP thermosets were respectively investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The water resistant properties of the cured EP were evaluated by putting the samples into distilled water at 70°C for 168 hr. The results revealed that the EP/20 wt% DPDCEPO/80 wt% PA thermosets successfully passed UL‐94 V‐0 flammability rating and the LOI value was as high as 33.2%. The cone test results revealed that the incorporation of DPDCEPO effectively reduced the combustion parameters of the epoxy resin thermosets, such as heat release rate and total heat release. The dynamic mechanical thermal analysis test demonstrated that the glass transition temperature (Tg) decreased with the increase of DPDCEPO content. The TGA results indicated that the incorporation of DPDCEPO promoted the decomposition of epoxy resin matrix ahead of time and led to a higher char yield and thermal stability at high temperatures. The surface morphological structures and analysis of the XPS of the char residues of EP thermosets revealed that the introduction of DPDCEPO benefited the formation of a sufficient, compact and homogeneous char layer with rich flame retardant elements on the epoxy resin material surface during combustion. The mechanical properties and water resistance of the cured epoxy resins were also measured. After water resistance tests, the EP/20 wt% DPDCEPO/80 wt% PA thermosets retained excellent flame retardancy, and the moisture adsorption of the EP thermosets decreased with the increase of DPDCEPO content in EP thermosets because of the existence of the P–C bonds and the rigid aromatic hydrophobic structure in DPDCEPO. Phase structures and mechanical properties of epoxy/acryl triblock copolymer alloys using several curing agents were studied. The nanostructured thermosets were obtained at the compositions investigated for every blends studied. The dependence of the morphological structures on block copolymer content and dicyanate ester, 2,2′‐bis(4‐cyanatophenyl) isopropylidene (BCE)/epoxy (EP) ratio for thermosetting blends was interpreted on the basis of the difference in hydrogen bonding interactions and reaction resulting from the cross‐linked network structures of matrixes. Moreover, the effect of F68 (poly(ethylene oxide)‐co‐poly(propylene oxide)‐co‐poly(ethylene oxide) block copolymer) on the curing characteristics and performance of BCE/EP resin was discussed. Results show that the incorporation of F68 cannot only effectively promote the curing reaction of BCE/EP but can also significantly improve the toughness of the cured BCE/EP resin. In addition, the toughening effect of F68/EP is greater than single EP resin. For example, the notched impact strength of systems with BE‐80/20 (B and E being the overall contents of BCE and EP, respectively) modified with 10 wt% F68 showed 55% increase compared with neat BCE/EP resin and even is more than three times of that value for pure BCE resin, 5.9 kJ/cm2. The effects of the hyperbranched polyester with hydroxyl end groups (HBPE‐OH) on the curing behavior and toughening performance of a commercial epoxy resin (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, DGEBA) were presented. The addition of HBPE‐OH into DGEBA strongly increased its curing rate and conversion of epoxide group due to the catalytic effect of hydroxyl groups in HBPE‐OH and the low viscosity of the blend at curing temperature. The improvements on impact strength and critical stress intensity factor (or fracture toughness, K1c) were observed with adding HBPE‐OH. The impact strength was 8.04 kJ m?1 when HBPE‐OH reached 15 wt% and the K1c value was approximately two times the value of pure epoxy resin when HBPE‐OH content was 20 wt%. The morphology of the blends was also investigated, which indicated that HBPE‐OH particles, as a second phase in the epoxy matrix, combined with each other as the concentration of HBPE‐OH increased. A chemically converted graphene/epoxy (EP) resin nanocomposite has been developed through the use of the functionalized graphene nanosheets (FGNs). The FGNs were prepared via the reaction of amines with alkylcarboxyl groups attached to the graphite oxides in the course of a dicarboxylic acid acyl peroxide treatment. FGNs/EP composites were prepared by dissolving the FGNs in organic solvent followed by mixing with EP and curing agent. In this composite, the FGNs were able to create molecular entanglement with EP matrix by taking advantage of the reactions between amine groups of FGNs and EP groups of EP, thus the FGNs could be covalently integrated into the EP matrix and became part of the cross‐linked network structure rather than just a separated component. Great enhancement in the mechanical properties of the epoxy composite, such as the ultimate tensile strength and toughness, had been achieved with small loading (0.1 wt%) of FGNs by 17.0% and 262.2%, respectively. However, the FGNs reinforced EP composites showed a slight decrease in glass transition temperature (Tg). Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Based on bio‐based furfural, a phosphorus‐containing curing agent (FPD) was successfully synthesized, via the addition reaction between 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10 phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) and furfural‐derived Schiff base. Then, as co‐curing agent, FPD was used to prepare flame retardant epoxy thermosets (EP) cured by 4, 4′‐diaminodiphenyl methane. The incorporated FPD improved the flame retardancy and toughness of epoxy thermoset, simultaneously. When 5 wt% FPD was added into EP, the FPD/EP achieved 35.7% limited oxygen index (LOI) value and passed UL94 V‐0 rating, meanwhile. In FPD/EP thermoset, the incorporated FPD reduced the thermal decomposition rate, increased the charring capacity, and inhibited the combustion intensity of epoxy thermoset. Through gas‐phase and condensed‐phase actions in weakening fuel supply, suppressing volatile combustion, and enhancing charring barrier effect, FPD decreased the heat release of burning epoxy thermoset, significantly. For the outstanding effectiveness on both flame retardancy and toughness, the study on FPD provides a promising way to manufacture high‐performance epoxy thermoset.  相似文献

A novel zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐8) nanoparticles@polyphosphazene (PZN) core‐shell architecture was synthesized, and then, ZIF‐8@PZN and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) were applied for increasing the flame retardancy and mechanical property of epoxy resin (EP) through a cooperative effect. Herein, ZIF‐8 was used as the core; the shell of PZN was coated to ZIF‐8 nanoparticles via a polycondensation method. The well‐designed ZIF‐8@PZN displayed superior fire retardancy and smoke suppression effect. The synthesized ZIF‐8@PZN observably raised the flame retardancy of EP composites, which could be demonstrated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and a cone calorimeter test (CCT). The chemical structure of ZIF‐8@PZN was characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Compared with pure epoxy, with the incorporation of 3 wt% ZIF‐8@PZN and 18 wt% APP into the EP, along with 80.8%, 72.6%, and 64.7% decreased in the peak heat release rate (pHRR), the peak smoke production rate (pSPR), and the peak CO production rate (pCOPR), respectively. These suggested that ZIF‐8@PZN and APP generated an intumescent char layer, and ZIF‐8@PZN can strengthen the char layer, resulting in the enhancement in the flame resistance of EP.  相似文献

A wrapped nanoflame retardant, designated as polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)‐poly(4‐bromostyrene) (PBS)‐carbon nanotubes (CNTs), was synthesized via π‐π stacking interactions between the walls of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and the silicon‐bromine containing hybrid copolymer (designated as POSS‐PBS) that was copolymerized by 4‐bromostyrene and acryloyloxyisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane. The POSS‐PBS‐CNTs exhibited good dispersibility in epoxy resin (EP) without obvious aggregation. Furthermore, the fire behaviors of this flame‐retardant EP (FR‐EP) nanocomposites were examined via limited oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter (CONE) tests. The FR‐EP had an ideal LOI value of 35.3% and its residual char yield obtained from CONE test was significantly enhanced from 5.9% to 15.3% with the incorporation of 4 wt% POSS‐PBS‐CNTs and 1.33 wt% Sb2O3 into EP matrix. Additionally, the addition of 4 wt% POSS‐PBS‐CNTs or POSS‐PBS can efficiently decrease the peak heat release rate (PHRR) of EP matrix by 41.0% or 45.6%, respectively.  相似文献

To improve the dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and flame retardancy of layered double hydroxide (LDH) in epoxy resin (EP), organic nickel‐iron layered double hydroxide (ONiFe‐LDH‐CNTs) hybrids were assembled through co‐precipitation. These hybrids were further used as reinforcing filler in EP. EP/ONiFe‐LDH‐CNTs nanocomposites containing 4 wt% of ONiFe‐LDH‐CNTs with different ratios of ONiFe‐LDH and CNTs were prepared by ultrasonic dispersion and program temperature curing. The structure and morphology of the obtained hybrids were characterized by different techniques. The dispersion of nanofillers in the EP matrix was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results revealed a coexistence of exfoliated and intercalated ONiFe‐LDH‐ CNTs in polymer matrix. Strong combination of the above nanofillers with the EP matrix provided an efficient thermal and flame retardant improvement for the nanocomposites. It showed that EP/ONiFe‐LDH‐CNTs nanocomposites exhibited superior flame retardant and thermal properties compared with EP. Such improved thermal properties could be attributed to the better homogeneous dispersion, stronger interfacial interaction, excellent charring performance of ONiFe‐LDH and synergistic effect between ONiFe‐LDH and CNTs.  相似文献

One-pot hydrothermal reduction of graphene oxide (GO) in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) suspension was performed, wherein GO surface were functionalized by free radicals generated from NMP molecules. The NMP functionalized reduced GO (NMPG) nanosheets were then incorporated into epoxy matrix to prepare epoxy composites. The significant improvement of 100 and 240% in fracture toughness (critical intensity factor, KIC) and fracture energy (critical strain energy release rate, GIC) achieved from single edge notched bending (SENB) test revealed the excellent toughening ability of NMPG. The improved compatibility and interfacial interaction between the epoxy matrix and NMPG yielded∼28, 19 and 51% improvement in tensile strength, Young's and storage modulus, respectively. Thermal stability of pure epoxy and its composites was determined at 5, 10 and 50% weight loss, which showed 30, 27.5 and 29 °C improvement with 0.2 wt% NMPG loading. The work provides a simple method to prepare graphene-based epoxy composites with improved performance.  相似文献

ZHS@ Mg‐Al‐LDH and ZHS@α‐ZrP hybrid materials were prepared by electrostatically loading zinc hydroxystannate (ZHS) on the layered compounds (Mg‐Al‐LDH and α‐ZrP) in this work. With the addition of 2 wt% of the two hybrid materials to epoxy resin (EP), respectively, the fire hazard of EP and its composites were investigated. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) of ZHS@ Mg‐Al‐LDH/EP composite increased by 19.0% compared with pure EP, while its peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release rate (THR), and peak smoke release rate (SPR) decreased by 48.2%, 20.8%, and 21.6%, respectively, evidenced by the results of the LOI test and cone calorimetry test (CCT). The LOI of ZHS@α‐ZrP/EP composite increased by 20.4%, and its PHRR, THR, and SPR decreased by 47.7%, 21.4%, and 27.1%, respectively. Both hybrid materials showed prominent flame retardant and smoke suppressing properties. In addition, through the analysis of the TG‐IR and Raman spectrum of residual char, the specific mechanism of flame retardance and smoke suppression was explored.  相似文献

Novel modified cyanate ester resins (EPMPS‐n/BADCy), with significantly decreased dielectric loss and improved toughness, were developed by copolymerizing the cyanate ester resin, 2, 2′‐bis (4‐cyanatophenyl) isopropylidene resin) (BADCy), with an epoxidized methyl phenyl silicone resin (EPMPS). The curing behavior of EPMPS‐n/BADCy and the typical properties of the corresponding cured EPMPS‐n/BADCy were systematically investigated. The results show that the addition of EPMPS into BADCy can not only accelerate the curing reaction of BADCy, but also decrease dielectric loss and enhance the impact strength as well as water resistance. For example, in the case of the modified BADCy resin with 15 wt%EPMPS, its impact strength is 17.8 kJ/m2, about 3 times of that of pure BADCy resin and its water absorption is only 0.25%, about one‐half of that of pure BADCy resin. In addition, while the dielectric loss is only 79% of that of pure BADCy resin, while its dielectric constant remains constant over the frequency range of 1KHz‐1 MHz. The above results suggest that EPMPS‐n/BADCy have great potential to be used as the matrix or adhesive for advanced composites. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A kind of absorbing materials was prepared by hot pressing method using polyimide as matrix and carbon black (CB) as filler. The mechanical properties, the electromagnetic properties, and the thermal stability of polyimide/CB composites were studied. The results showed that the complex permittivity increased from 6.82 + 1.38i to 18.69 + 9.47i, whereas the flexural strength decreased from 108 MPa to 77 MPa, respectively, when the CB content increased from 2 wt% to 8 wt%. The reflection loss curves shifted to low frequency with increase of the thickness at the same content. The reflection loss below ?10 dB could be obtained in the X band with 6 wt% CB content and did not display significant difference before and after the heat treatment at 400°C for 5 h. When the content of CB was 8 wt%, the decomposition temperature (at 5% weight loss) increased approximately 42°C compared with pure polyimide matrix. Graphene (G) and graphene oxide (GO) were added into epoxy resin (EP) respectively via chemical modification and physical ultrasound technology to improve the tribological behaviour of EP coating. The topographies of G and GO were detected by scanning probe microscopy. The chemical structures of the fillers before and after modification were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The across‐section topographies of the coatings were detected by scanning electron microscopy. The tribological behaviour of the coatings was evaluated by UMT‐3 tribology tester, surface profiler and scanning electron microscopy. The results revealed that the coefficient of friction of the coatings decreased, and the wear resistance of the coatings improved with the addition of the G and GO. GO could improve the tribological performance of EP further compared to G. When containing 0.5 wt% G and 0.75 wt% GO, the coatings had the lowest coefficient of friction and best wear resistance. When the contents of G reached 0.75 wt%, and GO reached 1 wt%, the tribological performance of the composite coatings decreased as a result of the agglomeration of the fillers. Finally, the anti‐friction and anti‐wear mechanisms of G‐EP and GO‐EP composite coatings were discussed in detail based on the results obtained in the preceding texts. Boron nitride (BN) micro particles modified by silane coupling agent, γ‐aminopropyl triethoxy silane (KH550), are employed to prepare BN/epoxy resin (EP) thermal conductivity composites. The thermal conductivity coefficient of the composites with 60% mass fraction of modified BN is 1.052 W/mK, five times higher than that of native EP (0.202 W/mK). The mechanical properties of the composites are optimal with 10 wt% BN. The thermal decomposition temperature, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss increase with the addition of BN. For a given BN loading, the surface modification of BN by KH550 exhibits a positive effect on the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of the BN/EP composites. A kind of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) containing the propoxyl‐epoxy and phenyl groups (pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS) was synthesized via hydrolytic condensation reaction. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry identified the structure of the pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS, including major caged Si6O9 (T6), Si10O15 (T10), Si12O18 (T12), etc. The pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS was applied into the epoxy resin to achieve EP/pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS composites. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that EP/pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS showed excellent thermal properties than pure EP. The fire behaviors of EP/pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS composites were evaluated based on the cone calorimetry, limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94 vertical burning test, and smoke density test. The smoke density decreased by ~30%, the LOI value reached to 26.4%, dripping was inhibited, and the peak of heat release rate decreased by ~62%. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis and FTIR indicated that protective‐barrier effect is the main flame‐retardant mode of action for pr‐ep‐Ph‐POSS, due to the formation of the Si‐O‐Si, Si‐O‐C, and Si‐C condensed phase, which improve the thermal stability, strength, and integrity of the char layer.  相似文献

In this paper, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene nanoplates (GNPs) were dispersed into epoxy adhesive by sonication method to investigate their synergy effects on the shear properties of unidirectional composite bonded single lap joints (SLJs). The effect of the viscosity of epoxy resin and hardener on the dispersion process was studied. Testing results showed that the incorporation of MWCNTs and GNPs significantly improved the shear strength and elongation of SLJs at failure. 0.75 wt% MWCNTs/GNPs hybrids reached the highest enhancement of shear strength and elongation by 36.6% and 33.2%, respectively. In addition, the thermal stability of epoxy adhesive was improved by nanofillers in some extent. Finally, the failure mode of SLJs and fracture surfaces of the bonding area as well as the damage mechanism of nanofillers were analyzed.  相似文献
