An intercomparison of the methodology (alpha, beta and gamma spectrometry) used for 238U, 235U and 210Pb determination was carried out based on 38 sediment samples. The activity range of the samples varied from 10–700 Bq/kg for 210Pb, 1–35 Bq/kg for 235U and 10–800 Bq/kg for 238U. Results obtained using the three methods were not statistically different at high activity levels, but agreement between the results decreased at lower sample activity levels. For 210Pb, the smallest difference was found between alpha and gamma spectrometry. A good correlation between results from alpha and gamma spectrometry was observed over the whole activity range. In beta spectrometry, the results were slightly higher than those obtained by alpha or gamma spectrometry due to the impurity of 228Ra. In 238U analysis, good correspondence was observed between 238U determined by gamma and alpha spectrometry, particularly at higher 238U activity concentrations over 100 Bq/kg. In 235U analysis, attention needs to be paid to interference from 226Ra and its reduction.  相似文献

Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to concurrently determine multiple long-lived (t1/2>104 y) actinide isotopes in soil leachates. Ultrasonic nebulization was found to maximize instrument sensitivity. Instrument detection limits for actinides in solution ranged from 50 mBq L–1 (239Pu) to 2Bq L–1 (235U). Hydride adducts of232Th and238U interfered with the determinations of233U and239Pu; thus, extraction chromatography was used to concentrate the analytes and separate uranium from the other actinides in advance of mass spectrometric determination. Alpha spectrometric determinations of230Th,239Pu, and the234U/238U activity ratio in soil leachates compared well with ICP-MS determinations; however, there were some small systematic differences (ca. 10%) between ICP-MS and -spectrometric determinations of234U and238U activities. These differences were attributed to the use of different isotope dilution spikes for ICP-MS and -spectrometry.  相似文献

Uranium and plutonium were determined in the Tehua II-21 sediment core collected from the Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico. The analyses were performed using radiochemical separation and alpha spectroscopy. Activity concentrations of alpha emitters in the sediment samples were from 2.56 to 43.1 Bq/kg for 238U, from 3.15 to 43.1 Bq/kg for 234U and from 0.69 to 2.95 Bq/Kg for 239+240Pu. Uranium activity concentration in marine sediment studied is generally high compared with those found in sediments from other marine coastal areas in the world. The presence of relatively high concentrations of anthropogenic plutonium in the sediments from the Gulf of Tehuantepec suggests that anthropogenic radionuclides have been incorporated and dispersed into the global marine environment.  相似文献

Approximately 100 freshwater samples were collected in Ukraine, Russia, and Belorussia with regard to the Chernobyl accident. Thorium and uranium were determined by both quantitative and semiquantitative analysis modes of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Thorium-232 was detected in only a few samples. Uranium concentrations ranged from non-detectable to 1,000ng/ml. Mean and median concentrations of238U were found to be 30.7±139 and 0.7 ng/ml, respectively. The isotope ratio of234U/238U ranged from 4.6·10–5 to 4.4·10–4. Mean ratio of235U/238U was 0.00721±0.00006 (n=27).  相似文献

The natural radioactivity in phosphate fertilizers used in central Italy has been measured by alpha and gamma spectrometry. The results show that the specific activities of 238U, 234U and 235U ranged within interval from < 0.5 to 2628.8, from < 0.5 to 2826.3 and from < 0.9 to 138.0 Bq kg− 1 respectively and those of 210Pb and 210Po ranged within interval from < 15.0 to 401.5 and < 0.5 to 351.6 Bq kg− 1 respectively. The 228Th, 230Th and 232Th concentrations found by alpha spectrometry ranged from < 0.5 to 50.2, from 0.9 to 2727.2 and from < 0.5 to 60.8 Bq kg− 1 respectively. 226Ra and 228Ra activity concentrations ranged from < 14.3 to 290.9 and from < 2.9 to 24.9 respectively. 40K specific activities ranged from 39.2 to 8263.7 Bq kg− 1. A very good correlation exists between the activity concentrations found by alpha spectrometry and those found by gamma spectrometry.  相似文献

As a preliminary survey to establish intake of -emitting nuclides, in particular239,240Pu, from a daily diet for inhabitants living near the Chernobyl reactor site, some kinds of food samples including total diet samples were collected in the Chernobyl (Ukraine) area and in the Ibaraki prefecture (Japan). Plutonium-239 and 240 were determined together with naturally occurring -emitters226Ra and U isotopes (234U,235U and238U) by -spectrometry after chemical separation. In most of the samples studied,239,240Pu was less than the detectable amount, but in some mushrooms from the Ukraine it was found to be 41.6 mBq kg–1 (wet mass) with a high activity ratio(0.58±0.08) of238Pu/239,240Pu, indicating that nearly 100% of the239,240Pu was attributable to the accident. Concentrations of226Ra and238U varied largely, depending on the samples. The measured activity ratios of235U/238U for some samples showed the isotopic composition of natural uranium.  相似文献

The city of Kocaeli is in the western part of Anatolia in Turkey and has a population of approximately 1.000.000. There is no information about radioactivity in the Kocaeli soils samples so far. For this reason, the concentrations of the natural radionuclides in soil samples from 27 different sampling stations in Kocaeli Basin and its surroundings have been determined. The results have been compared with other radioactivity measurements in different country"s soils. The typical concentrations of 137Cs, 238U, 40K, 226Ra, 232Th found in surface soil samples ranged from 2±0.6 to 25±6 Bq/kg, from 11±4 to 49±10 Bq/kg, from 161±30 to 964±127 Bq/kg, from 10±4 to 58±11 Bq/kg, and from 11±3 to 65±13 Bq/kg, respectively.  相似文献

The concentration of239,240Pu and238Pu in airborne effluents in the years 1985–1987 from two reactors VVER 440/total power of 880 MW/ of a nuclear power plant V-1 in Jaslovské Bohunice in Czechoslovakia, was determined. The concentration of239,240Pu in effluents ranged from 1.0 to 30.8 Bq.m–3 and of238Pu from 1.6 to 41.1 Bq.m–3. The activity ratio238Pu/239,240Pu in airborne effluents kept within the range of 1.0–2.4. Total annual discharged activities of239,240Pu in 1985, 1986 and 1987 were 28.5, 12.7 and 12.2 kBq, respectively. Total annual discharged activities of238Pu in 1986 and 1987 were 16.6 and 15.1 kBq, respectively.  相似文献

For the disposal of a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) glass filter into the environment, the glass fiber should be leached to lower its radioactive concentration to the clearance level. To derive an optimum method for the removal of uranium series from a HEPA glass fiber, five methods were applied in this study. That is, chemical leaching by a 4.0?M HNO3?C0.1?M Ce(IV) solution, chemical leaching by a 5 wt% NaOH solution, chemical leaching by a 0.5?M H2O2?C1.0?M Na2CO3 solution, chemical consecutive chemical leaching by a 4.0?M HNO3 solution, and repeated chemical leaching by a 4.0?M HNO3 solution were used to remove the uranium series. The residual radioactivity concentrations of 238U, 235U, 226Ra, and 234Th in glass after leaching for 5?h by the 4.0?M HNO3?C0.1?M Ce(IV) solution were 2.1, 0.3, 1.1, and 1.2?Bq/g. The residual radioactivity concentrations of 238U, 235U, 226Ra, and 234Th in glass after leaching for 36?h by 4.0?M HNO3?C0.1?M Ce(IV) solution were 76.9, 3.4, 63.7, and 71.9?Bq/g. The residual radioactivity concentrations of 238U, 235U, 226Ra, and 234Th in glass after leaching for 8?h by a 0.5?M H2O2?C1.0?M Na2CO3 solution were 8.9, 0.0, 1.91, and 6.4?Bq/g. The residual radioactivity concentrations of 238U, 235U, 226Ra, and 234Th in glass after consecutive leaching for 8?h by the 4.0?M HNO3 solution were 2.08, 0.12, 1.55, and 2.0?Bq/g. The residual radioactivity concentrations of 238U, 235U, 226Ra, and 234Th in glass after three repetitions of leaching for 3?h by the 4.0?M HNO3 solution were 0.02, 0.02, 0.29, and 0.26?Bq/g. Meanwhile, the removal efficiencies of 238U, 235U, 226Ra, and 234Th from the waste solution after its precipitation?Cfiltration treatment with NaOH and alum for reuse of the 4.0?M HNO3 waste solution were 100, 100, 93.3, and 100%.  相似文献

The beach placer deposit at Chhatrapur coast of Orissa state, southeastern coast of India, has a significant concentration of radiogenic heavy minerals. The average activity concentrations of radioactive elements such as 232Th, 238U and 40K were measured by gamma ray spectrometry using a HPGe detector, and found to be 2650±50, 400±30 and 120±30 Bq/kg, respectively, for the bulk sand samples. The activity concentrations in monazite and zircon sands are found to be 305,000±2000 and 2000±150 Bq/kg for the 232Th and 21,500±300 and 3450±250 Bq/kg for the 238U. Electron probe microanalysis results of monazite sands show the average ThO2 and UO3 concentrations to be 10.42 wt.%, and 0.32 wt.%, respectively. The major contributors for the enhanced level of radioactivity are monazite and zircon sands. These heavy mineral sands were derived from the nearby source areas such as Eastern Ghats Group of rocks.  相似文献

234U, 238U, 226Ra, and 228Ra were analyzed in 14 Korean hot spring waters. Uranium was extracted with mixture of extractive scintillation cocktail containing HDEHP and 234U, 238U were analyzed with LSC. Radium isotopes were separated using Ba coprecipitation method and counted with LSC and 228Ra was also analyzed its daughter 228Ac with HPGe γ-detector. Among them 226Ra was ranged <0.01–0.155 Bq/L and 228Ra is below detection limit <0.1 Bq/L. And also, uranium content was ranged <0.01–49.7 μg/L and 234U/238U ratio was ranged 0.69–1.17.  相似文献

Summary The present study focused on analyzing samples of bones, livers and kidneys of European white-tailed eagles (Halia?tus albicilla) and lesser-spotted eagle (Aquila pomarina). Bone samples were collected for both species, from 7 and 2 individuals, respectively, whereas liver and kidney samples for white-tailed eagle species only, 2 and 1 individuals, respectively. The samples were analyzed for the presence of gamma-emitters and then for 90Sr, 238Pu, 239+240Pu and 241Am. The applied radiochemical method is presented. Activity concentration in ashen bones (600 °C) for 90Sr ranged from 4.6±1.2 to 31.0±2.5 Bq/kg, for 239+240Pu from <1.7 to 21±4 mBq/kg, for 238Pu from <2.7 to 6.5±1.3 mBq/kg and for 241Am from <1.2 to 6.5±4.4 mBq/kg. Relatively high 239+240Pu activity concentration of 78±9 mBq/kg (for fresh weight) was recorded in a single kidney sample. The liver samples showed activities of magnitude at least one order lower. No clear correlations were found between the activities of different radionuclides.  相似文献

The radioactivity levels of Istanbul environs lignites were determined. The gamma-spectrometric technique has been used for the determination of activity levels of naturally occurring radionuclides 235+238U, 228+232Th, 40K, 226Ra and fallout radionuclides 137Cs in lignites taken from 7 different parts of Istanbul. Concentration of 238U, 228+232Th, 40K, 226Ra 137Cs and 235U were found up to 1.6 ppm, 1.7 ppm, 4.9 ppm, 56.8 Bq/kg, 34 Bq/kg, 1.8 Bq/kg, 1.6 Bq/kg, respectively. In addition total alpha- and beta-activity levels in lignite samples were found to be 7.6 and 15 eps, respectively.  相似文献

The plutonium and americium concentration and vertical distribution in some Italian mosses and lichens have been determined. The239,240Pu,238Pu and241Am concentration ranges in tree trunk lichens 0.83–1.87, 0.052–0.154 and 0.180–0.770 Bq/kg, respectively. The corresponding values in tree mosses are higher and more scattered ranging from 0.321 to 4.96, from 0.029 to 0.171 and from 0.200 to 1.93 Bq/kg. The mean238Pu/239,240Pu and241Am/239,240Pu ratios are 0.088±0.037 and 0.38±0.13 in lichens and 0.091±0.072 and 0.54±0.16 in tree mosses. The Pu and Am concentrations are relatively low in terrestrial mosses. The239,240Pu,238Pu and241Am vertical distributions in a terrestrial moss core (Neckera Crispa) collected near Urbino (central Italy) show an exponential decrease with the height. On the contrary the241Am vertical distribution in another terrestrial moss core (Sphagnum Compactum) collected in the Alps (northern Italy) shows an interesting peak at 16 cm which corresponds to the deposition of fallout from the nuclear weapon tests in 1960's. The241Am movement upward and downward in the moss core is also studied. The results show once again that both mosses and lichens are very effective accumulators of Pu and Am and that they can be used as good biological indicators of the radionuclide airbome pollution from nuclear facilities and nuclear weapon tests. They can play a very impotant role in cycling naturally or artificially enhanced radionuclides in the atmosphere over long time scales.  相似文献

Described are results and the procedure for a pilot study on 237Np content in forest litter samples from Poland in relation to their plutonium activity. Neptunium was determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and Pu by alpha spectrometry. Two samples originated from a location with pure global fallout and two others from a place with about 65% of the plutonium from Chernobyl. Plutonium activities were determined twice: at Krakow and in Monaco. The two results were consistent and 239 + 240Pu activities ranged from about 1 to about 7 Bq/kg dry weight (dw). The chemical recovery for Np was between 27 and 89%. Results for 237Np activity concentrations were between 0.099 ± 0.005 and 2.21 ± 0.076 mBq/kg dw. Observed activity ratios were lower than expected and could be explained by fractionation of Np against Pu in forest litter.  相似文献

The surface leaching of the labile component of uranium has been carried out in estuarine sediments of Zuari river in Goa. The measurements of alpha activities of238U,235U and234U in the leachates indicated a remarkable anomaly between the activities of238U and234U. The activity ratios of234U/238U in these leachates have been found to be in the range of 1.10 to 1.14. However, the activity ratios of235U/238U have been found to be 0.045 which is close to that in natural uranium. It has also been observed that the anomaly between238U and234U exists only on the surface organic layers of the backwater sediments of the Zuari river.  相似文献

Sediment core samples were collected up to a depth of 25–40 cm from three ponds (P. Korosteli, P. Mihairov and P. Alkat) and two lakes (L. Kanoneruka and L. Semanaika) located in widely separated regions outside the former Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site (SNTS) in Kazakhstan. The 137Cs, Pu and U concentrations with depth were determined in samples divided at 1 cm intervals from the top of each core. These sediment cores were dated by the excess 210Pb method. The reservoirs with low sedimentation rates of 0.038–0.41 g·cm–2·y–1 permitted, but not in detail, the estimation of the depositional history of close-in fallout of 137Cs and Pu within these regions. The sediments accumulating an anomalously high 238U concentration of 250–400 Bq/kg were also found for two of the five reservoirs, in which their 234U/238U and 235U/238U activity ratios were 1.3–2.0 and around 0.047 (nearly the same as that of natural U), respectively. Such U enrichment at the subsurface with a thin layer of lower-U sediment at the surface is mainly due to infiltration of lake water containing U from the ground water flowing into the lake or pond, followed by reduction of U(VI) to U(IV) at the redox boundary.The authors would like to express their gratitude to research staff of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Radiation Medicine and Ecology for sediment and soil sampling. 234U of high isotopic purity (>99 atom%) as well as of high radiochemical, purity was separated from aged238Pu prepared by neutron irradiation of237Np. Methodologies based on ion exchange and solvent extraction procedures were used to achieve high decontamination factor from238Pu owing to the very high α-specific activity of238Pu (2800 times) in comparison to that of234U. Isotopic composition of purified234U was determined by thermal ionisation mass spectrometry. Alpha spectrometry was used for checking the radiochemical purity of234U with respect to concomitant α-emitting nuclides. The separated234U will be useful for different investigations using mass spectrometry and alpha spectrometry.  相似文献

A time-saving and sensitive method for monitoring low concentration (activities) of 210Pb, 232Th, and 230Th and 238U, 234U, and 235U in water samples has been developed. Through the combination of co-precipitation and extraction chromatography by 3M RAD disks and UTEVA (Eichrom) columns effective radiochemical separation of the analytes was carried out. Thorium and uranium activities were determined by alpha spectrometry and lead activity by LSC, respectively. The minimal detectable activities obtained were 0.6?Bq?m?3 for uranium, 0.29?Bq?m?3 for thorium, and 2.5?Bq?m?3 for 210Pb. More than 150 different waters were analysed for uranium content and only 30 for lead and thorium. The investigations are still in progress.  相似文献
