Superoxide Ion–Promoted Facile One-Pot Synthesis of O-Alkyl-S-methyl Dithiocarbonates from Alcohol Under Mild Reaction Conditions

Abstract

A new, mild, and efficient protocol for the one-pot synthesis of O-alkyl-S-methyl dithiocarbonates (xanthates) has been described in reasonably good yields from a variety of alcohols employing carbon disulfide and methyl iodide using superoxide ion at room temperature.

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Alkyl-Substituted Aryl Diphenylphosphinate Esters

Abstract

In this work, the reactions of diphenylphosphinic chloride, (C₆H₅)₂P(O)Cl, 1, with the sodium salts of sterically hindered phenol derivatives (2a-2j) were investigated. Novel alkyl-substituted aryl diphenyl phosphinate esters (C₆H₅)₂P(O)OAr (3-12) were obtained from these reactions. Satisfactory analytical and spectroscopic results were obtained for all the new compounds.

Abstract

An efficient, regioselective, palladium-catalyzed intramolecular cycloisomerization of dialkyl [(2-(2-ethynyl)phenyl)(2-hydroxyl)ethyl]phosphonate 6 is reported. The reactions proceed through a 6-endo-dig cyclization to afford 1H-isochromen-1-ylmethylphosphonates 7 in good to excellent yields using palladium(II) acetate as the catalyst in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature.

Abstract

Substituted perchlorobutadienes were synthesized from the reactions of hexachloro-1,3-butadiene with some thiols in ethanol in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The oxidation products were obtained from the reactions of thioethers with m-chloroperbenzoic acid. The structures of the new compounds were characterized by microanalysis and spectroscopic data.

The novel S-, S,S-, and S,S,S-substituted nitrobutadienes were synthesized from the reactions of 2-nitrobutadiene compounds with some thiols. The new N,S-substituted nitrobutadienes were obtained from the reaction of the mono-thiosubstituted butadienes with morpholine, thiomorpholine, homopiperazine, and piperazine derivatives. The structures of new compounds were determined by spectroscopic techniques.

Synthesis,Structures, and Properties of Branched Oligogermanes

Abstract

We have employed the hydrogermolysis reaction for the preparation of rare branched oligogermanes, and have obtained for the first time the X-ray crystal structures of several branched tetragermanes, including (Ph₃Ge)₃GePh, (Ph₃Ge)₃GeH, and (Ph₃Ge)₃GeX (X = Cl or Br). We also have at our disposal branched tetragermanes having the formula (EtOCH₂CH₂Bu ⁿ ₂Ge)₃GePh, where the ethoxyethyl substituent serves as a protecting group for a germanium–hydride active site. These reagents have been employed for the stepwise synthesis of higher branched systems having up to 13 bonded germanium atoms in the oligomer backbone. The synthesis, structures, and physical characteristics of these systems are described.
