New tetradentate N(2)O(2) donor Schiff bases and their mononuclear Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Pd(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized extensively by IR, (1)H-, (13)C-NMR, mass, ESR, conductivity measurements, elemental and thermal analysis. Specifically the magnetic and electronic spectral measurements demonstrate the octahedral structures of cobalt(II), nickel(II) complexes and square planar geometries of copper(II), palladium(II) complexes. All the ligands and complexes were screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against two gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) and two gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia). In this study, Pd(II) complexes exhibited potent antibacterial activity against B. subtilis, S. aureus whereas other metal complexes also exerted good activity towards all tested strains even than standard drugs streptomycin and ampicillin.  相似文献

New metal based triazoles (1–12) have been synthesized by the interaction of novel Schiff base ligands (L1–L3) with the Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) metal ions. The Schiff base ligands and their all metal(II) complexes have been thoroughly characterized using various physical, analytical and spectroscopic techniques. In vitro bacterial and fungal inhibition studies were carried out to examine the antibacterial and antifungal profile of the Schiff bases in comparison to their metal(II) complexes against two Gram‐positive, four Gram‐negative and six fungal strains. The bioactivity data showed the metal(II) complexes to have more potent antibacterial and antifungal activity than their uncomplexed parent Schiff bases against one or more bacterial and fungal species. The Schiff bases of N(2)O(2) dibasic ligands, H(2)La and H(2)Lb are prepared by the condensation of ethylenediamine (a) and trimethylenediamine (b) with 6-formyl-7-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one. Also tetra basic ligands, H(4)La and H(4)Lb are prepared by the condensation of aliphatic amines (a) and (b) with 6-formyl-5,7-dihydroxy-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one. New complexes of H(4)La and H(4)Lb with metal ions Mn(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) are synthesized, in addition Mn(II) complexes with ligands H(2)La and H(2)Lb are also synthesized. Elemental and thermal analyses, infrared, ultraviolet-visible as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements are used to elucidate the structure of the newly prepared metal complexes. The structures of copper(II) complexes are also assigned based upon ESR spectra study. All the complexes separated with the stoichiometric ratio (1:1) (M:L) except Mn-H(4)La and Mn-H(4)Lb with (2:1) (M:L) molar ratio. In metal chelates of the type 1:1 (M:L), the Schiff bases behave as a dinegative N(2)O(2) tetradentate ligands. Moreover in 2:1 (M:L) complexes, the Schiff base molecules act as mono negative bidentate ligand and binuclear complex is then formed. The Schiff bases were assayed by the disc diffusion method for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The antifungal activity of the Schiff bases was also evaluated against the fungi Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans.  相似文献

2,6-Diacetylpyridine bis(benzenesulfonohydrazide) Schiff bases (L1, L2 and L3) and their Cu(II) complexes of the general formula [CuL·H2O] were synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The crystal structure of [CuL3·(py)]·py was investigated by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. The Cu(II) cation has near square pyramidal, penta-coordinate geometry. The binegatively charged tetradentate Schiff base is asymmetrically coordinated to the Cu(II) ion via the pyridine N atom, the azomethine N atom, the sulfonyl O atom and the deprotonated hydrazine N atom. There is a pyridine molecule apically coordinated to the Cu(II) ion. All the Schiff bases and their copper(II) complexes were screened by the disc diffusion method against multi-drug resistant (MDR) gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were also determined. These results show that the antibacterial activity of the Schiff bases against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is enhanced when they are chelated with the copper(II) ion.  相似文献

Metal complexes derived from 2,6-pyridinedicarboxaldehydebis(p-hydroxyphenylimine); L1, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxaldehydebis (o-hydroxyphenylimine); L2, are reported and characterized based on elemental analyses, IR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance and thermal analysis (TGA). The complexes are found to have the formulae [MX2(L1 or L2)] x nH2O, where M=Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II), X=Cl in case of Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) complexes and Br in case of Zn(II) complexes and n=0-2.5. The molar conductance data reveal that the chelates are non-electrolytes. IR spectra show that the Schiff bases are coordinated to the metal ions in a terdentate manner with NNN donor sites of the pyridine-N and two azomethine-N. From the magnetic and solid reflectance spectra, it is found that the geometrical structure of these complexes are trigonal bipyramidal (in case of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes) and octahedral (in case of Fe(II) complexes). The thermal behaviour of these chelates shows that the hydrated complexes losses water molecules of hydration in the first step followed immediately by decomposition of the coordinated water, anions and ligands (L1 and L2) in the subsequent steps. The activation thermodynamic parameters, such as, E*, DeltaH*, DeltaS* and DeltaG* are calculated from the TG curves using Coats-Redfern method. The synthesized ligands, in comparison to their metal complexes also were screened for their antibacterial activity against bacterial species, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Fungi (Candida). The activity data show that the metal complexes to be more potent/antibacterial than the parent organic ligands against one or more bacterial species.  相似文献

A series of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized with Schiff bases derived from 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol and 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin/8-acetyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin. The chelation of the complexes has been proposed in the light of analytical, spectral (IR, UV–Vis), ESI-mass, magnetic, ESR and thermal studies. The measured molar conductance values indicate that the complexes are non-electrolytes. TG and DTA provide the useful information about the coordination of water molecules to the metal ion and the stability of the complexes. TG and DTA curves show that the Co(II) complexes decomposition takes place in two stages corresponds to loss due to water molecules and Schiff base moiety. Whereas, Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes decomposition took place in three steps corresponding to the loss of coordinated water molecules, 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety and coumarin moiety, respectively. The Schiff bases and their complexes have been screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. The results of these studies show the metal complexes to be more antibacterial and antifungal as compared to the uncomplexed coumarins.  相似文献

A new series of transition metal complexes of Schiff base isonicotinic acid (2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazide, HL, have been synthesized. The Schiff base reacted with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Fe(III) and UO2(II) ions as monobasic tridentate ligand to yield mononuclear complexes of 1:2 (metal:ligand) except that of Cu(II) which form complex of 1:1 (metal:ligand). The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis, mass and 1H NMR spectra, as well as magnetic moment, conductance measurements, and thermal analyses. All complexes have octahedral configurations except Cu(II) complex which has an extra square planar geometry distorted towards tetrahedral. While, the UO2(II) complex has its favour hepta-coordination. The ligand and its metal complexes were tested against one strain Gram +ve bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), Gram -ve bacteria (Escherichia coli), and Fungi (Candida albicans). The tested compounds exhibited higher antibacterial activities.  相似文献

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with the Schiff base (LH) derived from ceftazidime and salicylaldehyde were synthesized. The proposed structures of the new metal complexes based on the results of elemental analyses, molar conductivity, IR, DRUV and 1H NMR spectra, effective magnetic moment and thermal analysis were discussed. The surface morphology of Schiff base and metal complexes was studied by SEM. The composition of the metal complexes was ML2, where L is the deprotonated Schiff base ligand and M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II). IR spectral data indicated the Schiff base ligand being bidentately coordinated to the metallic ions with N and O atoms from azomethine and phenolic groups. All the complexes have square-planar geometry and are nonelectrolytes. The thermal analysis recorded that TG, DTG, DTA and DSC experiments confirmed the assigned composition and gave information about the thermal stability of complexes in dynamic air atmosphere. Theoretical investigation of the molecular structure of Schiff base ligand and its complexes was studied using programs dedicated to chemical modeling and quantomolecular calculation of chemical properties. The newly synthesized complexes were tested for in vitro antibacterial activity against selected Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains, and they exhibited an antibacterial activity superior to that of the Schiff base ligand.  相似文献

A series of Schiff bases derived from 2-acetylpyridne and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, NMR, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectral studies. The complexes were screened for anti-bacterial activity against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Acinetobacter baumanni (AC), Klebsiella pneumonie (KB) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) using the disc diffusion and micro broth dilution assays. Based on the overall results, the complexes showed the highest activities against MRSA while a weak antibacterial activity was observed against A. baumanii and P. aeruginosa.  相似文献

New nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes with unsymmetrical Schiff bases derived from aromatic 2-hydroxy aldehydes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, melting points, 1H-NMR, magnetic susceptibility, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), infrared (IR), and electronic spectral measurements. Comparison of IR spectra of the Schiff bases and their metal complexes indicated that the Schiff bases are tetradentate, coordinated via the two azomethine nitrogens and the two phenolic oxygens. Magnetic moments and electronic spectral data confirm square-planar geometry for the complexes. Thermal studies reveal a general decomposition pattern, whereby the complexes decomposed partially in a single step due to loss of part of the organic moiety. A single endothermic profile, corresponding to melting point, was observed from the DSC of all complexes, except those whose ligand contained the nitro group, which decomposed exothermally without melting. The Schiff bases and their complexes were screened in vitro against 10 human pathogenic bacteria. The metal(II) complexes exhibited higher antibacterial activity than their corresponding Schiff bases.  相似文献

Cobalt(II) complexes of a new series of unsymmetrical Schiff bases have been synthesized and characterized by their elemental analyses, melting points, magnetic susceptibility, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared (IR), and electronic spectral measurements. The purity of the ligands and the metal complexes are confirmed by microanalysis, while the unsymmetrical nature of the ligands was further corroborated by 1H-NMR. Comparison of the IR spectra of the Schiff bases and their metal complexes confirm that the Schiff bases are tetradentate and coordinated via N2O2 chromophore. The magnetic moments and electronic spectral data support square-planar geometry for the cobalt(II) complexes. The complexes were thermally stable to 372.3°C and their thermal decomposition was generally via the partial loss of the organic moiety. The Schiff bases and their complexes were screened for in vitro antibacterial activities against 10 human pathogenic bacteria and their minimum inhibitory concentrations were determined. Both the free ligands and cobalt(II) complexes exhibit antibacterial activities against some strains of the microorganisms, which in a number of cases were comparable with, or higher than, that of chloramphenicol.  相似文献

A series of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes, [ML?·?2H2O] of Schiff bases derived from 4,4-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (dapsone) and 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin/5-formyl-6-hydroxycoumarin have been synthesized. From analytical, spectral (IR, NMR, UV-Vis, ESR and FAB mass), and magnetic studies it has been concluded that the metal complexes possess octahedral geometry and are non-electrolytes. The redox behavior of the metal complexes is investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The Schiff bases and their metal complexes have been screened for antibacterial (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus proteus) and antifungal activities (Fusarium, Candida, Rhizopus, Penicillium chrysogenum and Aspergillus niger) by the minimum inhibitory concentration method. The anthelmintic activity of the ligands and their metal complexes against earthworms was investigated. The DNA cleavage study was done by agarose gel electrophoresis. Anti-inflammatory activity studies showed the test compounds are comparable to the standard drug diclofenac sodium.  相似文献

Few novel 4-aminoantipyrine derived Schiff bases and their metal complexes were synthesized and characterized. Their structural features and other properties were deduced from the elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity as well as from mass, IR, UV-vis, (1)H NMR and EPR spectral studies. The binding of the complexes with CT-DNA was analyzed by electronic absorption spectroscopy, viscosity measurement, and cyclic voltammetry. The interaction of the metal complexes with DNA was also studied by molecular modeling with special reference to docking. The experimental and docking results revealed that the complexes have the ability of interaction with DNA of minor groove binding mode. The intrinsic binding constants (K(b)) of the complexes with CT-DNA were found out which show that they are minor groove binders. Gel electrophoresis assay demonstrated the ability of the complexes to cleave the pUC19 DNA in the presence of AH(2) (ascorbic acid). Moreover, the oxidative cleavage studies using distamycin revealed the minor groove binding for the newly synthesized 4-aminoantipyrine derived Schiff bases and their metal complexes. Evaluation of antibacterial activity of the complexes against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae exhibited that the complexes have potent biocidal activity than the free ligands.  相似文献

Two halide-coordinated zinc(II) complexes with the Schiff base 2-ethoxy-6-[(2-piperidin-1-ylethylimino)methyl]phenol were synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N), FT-IR spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The Zn atom in each complex is four-coordinated in a tetrahedral geometry by one phenolic O and one imine N atoms of the Schiff base ligand and by two halide atoms. The antibacterial activity of the complexes and the Schiff bases against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus anthracis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Streptococcus agalactiae was investigated.  相似文献

A series of metal complexes were synthesized from equimolar amounts of Schiff bases: 1,4-bis[3-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldimine)propyl]piperazine (bappnaf) and 1,8-bis[3-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldimine)-p-menthane (damnaf) with metal chlorides. All of synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, spectral (UV-vis, IR, (1)H-(13)C NMR, LC-MS) and thermal (TGA-DTA) methods, magnetic and conductance measurements. Schiff base complexes supposed in tetragonal geometry have the general formula [M(bappnaf or damnaf)]Cl.nH(2)O, where M=Cr(III), Co(III) and n=2, 3. But also Fe(III) complexes have octahedral geometry by the coordination of two water molecules and the formula is [Fe(bappnaf or damnaf)(H(2)O)(2)]Cl. The changes in the selected vibration bands in FT-IR indicate that Schiff bases behave as (ONNO) tetradentate ligands and coordinate to metal ions from two phenolic oxygen atoms and two azomethine nitrogen atoms. Conductance measurements suggest 1:1 electrolytic nature of the metal complexes. The synthesized compounds except bappnaf ligand have the antimicrobial activity against the bacteria: Escherichia coli (ATCC 11230), Yersinia enterocolitica (ATCC 1501), Bacillus magaterium (RSKK 5117), Bacillus subtilis (RSKK 244), Bacillus cereus (RSKK 863) and the fungi: Candida albicans (ATCC 10239). These results have been considerably interest in piperazine derivatives due to their significant applications in antimicrobial studies.  相似文献

New Schiff bases have been synthesized from benzofuran-2-carbohydrazide and benzaldehyde, [BPMC] or 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, [BDMeOPMC]; complexes of the type MLX2, where M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II), L = BPMC or BDMeOPMC and X = Cl, have been prepared. Structures have been elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis, conductance measurements, magnetic properties, spectral studies i.e., 1H NMR, electronic, ESR and IR studies show that the Schiff bases are bidentate through the azomethine nitrogen and oxygen of the carbonyl. We propose tentative structures for all of these complexes. The antifungal and antibacterial activities of the ligands and their metal complexes have been screened against fungi Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus fumigatus and against bacteria Escherichia coli and S. aurious.  相似文献

3‐3′‐Benzylidenebis[4‐hydroxycoumarin] or 4‐nitro,3‐3′‐benzylidenebis[4‐hydroxycoumarin] or 4‐methoxy,3‐3′‐benzylidenebis[4‐hydroxycoumarin] and their complexes with Cu(II), Fe(II) and Fe(III) were synthesized and characterized using 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, IR spectra, electronic spectra, magnetic measurements and elemental analyses. The ligands, metal salts, complexes, control and standard drug were tested for their in‐vitro antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella typhi, and Serratia marcescens. The metal complexes exhibit good activity against bacterial strains compared with parental compounds and moderate compared with the standard drug (ciprofloxacin). In‐vitro DNA‐binding activity was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. The synthesized compounds show effective DNA‐binding activity. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A series of metal complexes of Zn(II) have been synthesized with newly synthesized biologically active 1,2,4-triazole Schiff bases derived from the condensation of 3-substituted-4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole with 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin. The structure of the complexes has been proposed in the light of elemental analyses, spectroscopic data (IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR and FAB-mass), thermal studies. Electrochemical study of the complexes is also reported. All the complexes are soluble to limited extent in common organic solvents but soluble to larger extent in DMF and DMSO and are non-electrolytes in these two solvent. All these Schiff bases and their complexes have also been screened for their antibacterial (Escherichia. coli, S. aureus, S. pyogenes, P. aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi) and antifungal activities (Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and cladosporium) by MIC method. The brine shrimp bioassay was also carried out to study their in vitro cytotoxic properties.  相似文献

Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) complexes have been prepared with Schiff bases derived from 3-formyl-2-mercaptoquinoline and substituted anilines. The prepared Schiff bases and chelates have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibilities, electronic, IR, 1H-NMR, ESR, cyclic voltammetry, FAB-mass, and thermal studies. The complexes have stoichiometry of the type ML2 · 2H2O coordinating through azomethine nitrogen and thiolate sulfur of 2-mercapto quinoline. An enhancement in fluorescence has been noticed in the Zn(II) complexes whereas quenching occurred in the other complexes. The ligands and their metal complexes have been screened in vitro for antibacterial and antifungal activities by MIC methods with biological activity increasing on complexation. Cu(II) complexes show greater bacterial than fungicidal activities. The brine shrimp bioassay was also carried out to study the in vitro cytotoxicity properties of the ligands and their corresponding complexes. Only four compounds have exhibited potent cytotoxic activity against Artemia salina; the other compounds were almost inactive for this assay.  相似文献
