Ultrafast two-dimensional infrared (2D) spectroscopy has been applied to study the structure and vibrational dynamics of (mu-S(CH2)3S)Fe2(CO)6, a model compound of the active site of the [FeFe]-hydrogenase enzyme system. Comparison of 2D-IR spectra of (mu-S(CH2)3S)Fe2(CO)6 with density functional theory calculations has determined that the solution-phase structure of this molecule is similar to that observed in the crystalline phase and in good agreement with gas-phase simulations. In addition, vibrational coupling and rapid (<5 ps) solvent-mediated equilibration of energy between vibrationally excited states of the carbonyl ligands of the di-iron-based active site model are observed prior to slower (approximately 100 ps) relaxation to the ground state. These dynamics are shown to be solvent-dependent and form a basis for the future determination of the vibrational interactions between active site and protein.  相似文献

Given the limited intermolecular spaces available in dense liquids, the large amplitudes of highly excited, low frequency vibrational modes pose an interesting dilemma for large molecules in solution. We carry out molecular dynamics calculations of the lowest frequency ("warping") mode of perylene dissolved in liquid argon, and demonstrate that vibrational excitation of this mode should cause identifiable changes in local solvation shell structure. But while the same kinds of solvent structural rearrangements can cause the non-equilibrium relaxation dynamics of highly excited diatomic rotors in liquids to differ substantially from equilibrium dynamics, our simulations also indicate that the non-equilibrium vibrational energy relaxation of large-amplitude vibrational overtones in liquids should show no such deviations from linear response. This observation seems to be a generic feature of large-moment-arm vibrational degrees of freedom and is therefore probably not specific to our choice of model system: The lowest frequency (largest amplitude) cases probably dissipate energy too quickly and the higher frequency (more slowly relaxing) cases most likely have solvent displacements too small to generate significant nonlinearities in simple nonpolar solvents. Vibrational kinetic energy relaxation, in particular, seems to be especially and surprisingly linear.  相似文献

A new ab initio potential energy surface for the ground state of the NO-NO system has been calculated within a reduced dimensionality model. We find an unusually large vibrational dependence of the interaction potential which explains previous spectroscopic observations. The potential can be used to model vibrational energy transfer, and here we perform quantum scattering calculations of the vibrational relaxation of NO(v). We show that the vibrational relaxation for v = 1 is 4 orders of magnitude larger than that for the related O(2)(v) + O(2) system without having to invoke nonadiabatic mechanisms as had been suggested in the past. For highly vibrationally excited states, we predict a strong dependence of the rates on the vibrational quantum number as has been observed experimentally, although there remain important quantitative differences. The importance of a chemically bound isomer on the relaxation mechanism is analyzed, and we conclude it does not play a role for the values of v considered in the experiment. Finally, the intriguing negative temperature dependence of the vibrational relaxation rate constants observed in experiments was studied using an statistical model to include the presence of many asymptotically degenerate spin-orbit states.  相似文献

Transient electronic absorption measurements reveal the vibrational relaxation dynamics of CH(3)I following excitation of the C-H stretch overtone in the gas phase and in liquid solutions. The isolated molecule relaxes through two stages of intramolecular vibrational relaxation (IVR), a fast component that occurs in a few picoseconds and a slow component that takes place in about 400 ps. In contrast, a single 5-7 ps component of IVR precedes intermolecular energy transfer (IET) to the solvent, which dissipates energy from the molecule in 50 ps, 44 ps, and 16 ps for 1 M solutions of CH(3)I in CCl(4), CDCl(3), and (CD(3))(2)CO, respectively. The vibrational state structure suggests a model for the relaxation dynamics in which a fast component of IVR populates the states that are most strongly coupled to the initially excited C-H stretch overtone, regardless of the environment, and the remaining, weakly coupled states result in a secondary relaxation only in the absence of IET.  相似文献

The vibrational wave-packet dynamics of diatomic rubidium molecules (Rb(2)) in triplet states formed on the surface of superfluid helium nanodroplets is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Detailed comparison of experimental femtosecond pump-probe spectra with dissipative quantum dynamics simulations reveals that vibrational relaxation is the main source of dephasing. The rate constant for vibrational relaxation in the first excited triplet state 1(3)Σ(g)+ is found to be constant γ ≈ 0.5 ns(-1) for the lowest vibrational levels v ? 15 and to increase sharply when exciting to higher energies.  相似文献

Excited-state dynamics of [Re(Etpy)(CO)3(bpy)]+ was studied in three imidazolium ionic liquids by time-resolved IR and emission spectroscopy on the picosecond to nanosecond time scale. Low-lying excited states were characterized by TD-DFT calculations, which also provided molecular dipole moment vectors in the relevant electronic states. TRIR spectra in ionic liquids show initial populations of two excited states: predominantly bpy-localized 3IL and 3MLCT, characterized by nu(CO) bands shifted to lower and higher frequencies, respectively, relative to the ground state. Internal conversion of 3IL to the lowest triplet 3MLCT occurred on a time scale commensurate with solvent relaxation. The nu(CO) IR bands of the 3MLCT state undergo a dynamic shift to higher wavenumbers during relaxation. Its three-exponential kinetics were determined and attributed to vibrational cooling (units of picoseconds), energy dissipation to the bulk solvent (tens of picoseconds), and solvent relaxation, the lifetime of which increases with increasing viscosity: [EMIM]BF4 (330 ps) < [BMIM]BF4 (470 ps) < [BMIM]PF6 (1570 ps). Time-resolved phosphorescence spectra in [BMIM]PF6 show a approximately 2 ns drop in intensity due to the 3IL --> 3MLCT conversion and a dynamic Stokes shift to lower energies with a lifetime decreasing from 1.8 ns at 21 degrees C to 1.1 ns at 37 degrees C, due to decreasing viscosity of the ionic liquid. It is proposed that solvent relaxation predominantly involves collective translational motions of ions. It drives the 3IL --> 3MLCT conversion, increases charge reorganization in the lowest excited-state 3MLCT, and affects vibrational anharmonic coupling, which together cause the dynamic shift of excited-state IR bands. TRIR spectroscopy of carbonyl-diimine complexes emerges as a new way to investigate various aspects of solvation dynamics, while the use of slowly relaxing ionic liquids offers new insight into the photophysics of Re(I) carbonyl polypyridyls.  相似文献

Resonance Raman spectra of free-base octaethylporphine (OEP) were obtained with 368.9 nm, 397.9 nm and 416.0 nm excitation wavelengths, and density functional calculations were done to help the elucidation of Soret (B(x) and B(y)-band) electronic transitions and the corresponding photo relaxation dynamics of OEP. The RRs indicate that the Franck-Condon region photo relaxation dynamics upon S(0)→S(8) electronic transition is predominantly along the totally symmetric C(m)C(α) stretch, the C(β)C(β) stretch, and simultaneously along the asymmetric δ(pyr deformation),γ(CH(2)) vibrational relaxation processes. The excited state structural dynamics of OEP determined from resonance Raman spectra show that the internal conversion between B(y) and B(x) electronic states occurs in tens of femtoseconds and the electronic relaxation dynamics were firstly interpreted with account of the time-dependent wave packet theory and Herzberg-Teller (vibronic coupling) contributions.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations that explicitly include spin-orbit interactions are reported for the NeCl2 system of electronic states. A surprising curve crossing is observed for the C2v, T-shaped geometry. Away from the C2v geometry, the states mix, as expected. On the basis of these new results we propose a new mechanism for electronic energy transfer from highly vibrationally excited levels of the B electronic state of the chlorine molecule. It is proposed that as long as vibrational predissociation of NeCl2 proceeds by direct coupling of the initial state to the continuum states the Ne atom does not sample geometries that efficiently quench the Cl2 B electronic state. However, when the vibrational dynamics changes to the intramolecular vibrational relaxation regime the Ne atom becomes quite effective at coupling the Cl2 B3Pi0u+ state with a 3Pi2g state.  相似文献

The 397.9 nm, 416.0 nm and 435.7 nm resonance Raman spectra were acquired for meso-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) in tetrahydrofuran solution, and the Raman effect of relaxation dynamics was analyzed according to Herzberg-Teller (vibronic coupling) contributions. Density functional calculations were done to help the elucidation of the Soret (B(x) and B(y)-band) electronic transitions and the corresponding photo relaxation dynamics of TCPP. The spectra indicate that the Franck-Condon region photo relaxation dynamics upon S(0) → S(4) electronic transition are predominantly along the totally symmetric C(m)-ph stretch and Porphin ring breath stretch, and simultaneously along the asymmetric ν(C(m)-Phenyl) + δ(N-H) and ν(C(α)-C(m)-C(α))(as) + def (pyr) vibrational relaxation processes. The excited state structural dynamics of TCPP determined from the resonance Raman spectra show that the internal conversion between the B(y) and B(x) electronic states occurs in tens of femtoseconds, and the electronic relaxation dynamics were firstly interpreted taking into account the time-dependent wave packet theory and Herzberg-Teller (vibronic coupling) contributions.  相似文献

Two modified metallophthalocyanines (MPcs) containing sulfonic naphthoxy substituents were synthesized. The measurements of transient absorption and time-resolved photoluminescence were used to study the ultrafast response and excited state dynamics of two MPcs in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution, which were predominantly in the monomeric form. Under excitation at 400 nm, these molecules experience vibrational relaxation to the bottom of the first excited state and then the excitation rapidly converts to the low-lying charge-transfer (CT) state and finally reaches the triplet states. Under excitation at 800 nm, they show a two-photon absorption character, and their excited state dynamics exhibit strong dependence on the probe wavelength. The main results with 400 nm pumping are similar to the results with 800 nm pumping. For p-HPcZn, weak two-photon photoluminescence was also observed with a lifetime of 52 +/- 2 ps. A four-level model was used to illustrate the excited state dynamics of p-HPcZn, while a five-level model was suggested for p-HPcCo molecule.  相似文献

The vibrational energy relaxation from the first excited ND-stretching mode of NH(2)D dissolved in liquid NH(3) is studied using molecular dynamics simulations. The rate constants for inter- and intramolecular energy transfer are calculated in the framework of the quantum-classical Landau-Teller theory. At 273 K and an ammonia density of 0.642 g cm(-3) the calculated ND-stretch lifetime of τ = 9.1 ps is in good agreement with the experimental value of 8.6 ps. The main relaxation channel accounting for 52% of the energy transfer involves an intramolecular transition to the first excited state of the umbrella mode. The energy difference between both states is taken up by the near-resonant bending vibrations of the solvent. Less important for the ND-stretch lifetime are both the direct transition to the ground state and intramolecular relaxation via the NH(2)D bending modes contributing 23% each. Our calculations imply that the experimentally observed weak density dependence of τ is caused by detuning the resonance between the ND-stretch-umbrella energy gap and the solvent accepting modes which counteracts the expected linear increase of the relaxation rate with density.  相似文献

Quantum dynamical simulations of vibrational spectroscopy have been carried out for glycine dipeptide (CH(3)-CO-NH-CH(2)-CO-NH-CH(3)). Conformational structure and dynamics are modeled in terms of the two Ramachandran dihedral angles of the molecular backbone. Potential energy surfaces and harmonic frequencies are obtained from electronic structure calculations at the density functional theory (DFT) [B3LYP/6-31+G(d)] level. The ordering of the energetically most stable isomers (C(7) and C(5)) is reversed upon inclusion of the quantum mechanical zero point vibrational energy. Vibrational spectra of various isomers show distinct differences, mainly in the region of the amide modes, thereby relating conformational structures and vibrational spectra. Conformational dynamics is modeled by propagation of quantum mechanical wave packets. Assuming a directed energy transfer to the torsional degrees of freedom, transitions between the C(7) and C(5) minimum energy structures occur on a sub-picosecond time scale (700...800 fs). Vibrationally nonadiabatic effects are investigated for the case of the coupled, fundamentally excited amide I states. Using a two state-two mode model, the resulting wave packet dynamics is found to be strongly nonadiabatic due to the presence of a seam of the two potential energy surfaces. Initially prepared adiabatic vibrational states decay upon conformational change on a time scale of 200...500 fs with population transfer of more than 50% between the coupled amide I states. Also the vibrational energy transport between localized (excitonic) amide I vibrational states is strongly influenced by torsional dynamics of the molecular backbone where both enhanced and reduced decay rates are found. All these observations should allow the detection of conformational changes by means of time-dependent vibrational spectroscopy.  相似文献

An analytical anharmonic six-dimensional three-sheeted potential energy surface for the ground and first excited states of the ammonia cation has been developed which is tailored to model the ultrafast photoinduced dynamics. Selected ab initio cuts, obtained by multireference configuration interaction calculations, have been used to determine the parameters of a diabatic representation for this Jahn-Teller and pseudo-Jahn-Teller system. The model includes higher-order coupling terms both for the Jahn-Teller and for the pseudo-Jahn-Teller matrix elements. The relaxation to the ground state is possible via dynamical pseudo-Jahn-Teller couplings involving the asymmetric bending and stretching coordinates. The photoelectron spectrum of NH3 and the internal conversion dynamics of NH3+ have been determined by wave packet propagation calculations employing the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree method. Three different time scales are found in the dynamics calculations for the second absorption band. The ultrafast Jahn-Teller dynamics of the two excited states occurs on a 5 fs time scale. The major part of the internal conversion to the ground state takes place within a short time scale of 20 fs. This fast internal conversion is, however, incomplete and the remaining excited state population does not decay completely even within 100 fs.  相似文献

Using double IR resonance technique the transformation of the SF6 linear spectrum while excited by fn intense laser field has been investigated. The saturation intensities for the transitions between excited vibrational states of the SF6 have been measured. It has been found that the multiplephoton laser excitation is forming two molecular ensembles, one of these two is strongly excited along the ν3 mode. It is shown that between excited vibrational states a fast collisional relaxation is taking place.  相似文献

A hybrid of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer and a time-of-flight "magnetic-bottle type" photoelectron (PE) spectrometer is used for fs pump-probe investigations of the excited state dynamics of thiophene. A resonant two-photon ionization spectrum of the onset of the excited states has been recorded with a tunable UV laser of 190 fs pulse width. With the pump laser set to the first intense transition we find by UV probe ionization first a small time shift of the maxima in the PE spectrum and then a fast decay to a low constant intensity level. The fitted time constants are 80+/-10 fs, and 25+/-10 fs, respectively. Theoretical calculations show that upon geometry relaxation the electronic state order changes and conical intersections between excited states exist. We use the vertical state order S1, S2, S3 to define the terms S1, S2, and S3 for the characterization of the electron configuration of these states. On the basis of our theoretical result we discuss the electronic state order in the UV spectra and identify in the photoelectron spectrum the origin of the first cation excited state D1. The fast excited state dynamics agrees best with a vibrational dynamics in the photo-excited S1 (80+/-10 fs) and an ultrafast decay via a conical intersection, presumably a ring opening to the S3 state (25+/-10 fs). The subsequently observed weak constant signal is taken as an indication, that in the gas phase the ring-closure to S0 is slower than 50 ps. An ultrafast equilibrium between S1 and S2 before ring opening is not supported by our data.  相似文献

The light sensing apparatus of many organisms includes a flavoprotein. In any spectroscopic analysis of the photocycle of flavoproteins a detailed knowledge of the spectroscopy and excited state dynamics of potential intermediates is required. Here we correlate transient vibrational and electronic spectra of the two fully reduced forms of flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD): FADH(-) and FADH(2). Ground and excited state frequencies of the characteristic carbonyl modes are observed and assigned with the aid of DFT calculations. Excited state decay and ground state recovery dynamics of the two states are reported. Excited state decay occurs on the picosecond timescale, in agreement with the low fluorescence yield, and is markedly non single exponential in FADH(-). Further, an unusual 'inverse' isotope effect is observed in the decay time of FADH(-), suggesting the involvement in the radiationless relaxation coordinate of an NH or hydrogen bond mode that strengthens in the excited electronic state. Ground state recovery also occurs on the picosecond time scale, consistent with radiationless decay by internal conversion, but is slower than the excited state decay.  相似文献

Benchmark, full-dimensional calculations on the ground and excited vibrational states for the tetra-, and penta-atomic weakly bound He(2,3)ICl complexes are reported. The representation of the potential energy surfaces includes three-body HeICl potentials parameterized to coupled-cluster singles, doubles, and perturbative triples ab initio data. These terms are important in accurately describing the interactions of such highly floppy systems. The corresponding 6D/9D computations are performed with the multi-configuration time dependent Hartree method, using natural potential fits, and a mode combination scheme to optimize the computational effort in the improved relaxation calculations. For these complexes several low-lying vibrational states are computed, and their binding energies and radial/angular probability density distributions are obtained. We found various isomers which are assigned to different structural models related with combinations of the triatomic isomers, like linear, T-shaped, and antilinear ones. Comparison of these results with recent experimental data is presented, and the quantitative deviations found with respect to the experiment are discussed.  相似文献
