The influence of the thermal treatment on the stability in time of the dispersion degree of films containing binary polymer mixtures, poly(vinyl chloride)/poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(vinyl chloride)/poly(vinyl acetate) and poly(vinyl acetate)/poly(methyl methacrylate), was studied by thermogravimetry and optical microscopy with phase contrast. The dispersion degree depends particularly on the composition of the polymer mixture and can be improved by thermal treatment at temperatures above the glass temperatures of both homopolymers. It seems that this thermal treatment yields exclusively metastable structures with a general tendency to phase separation in a short time after thermal treatment, the heterogeneity mixtures (as film) being more pronounced.  相似文献

In this comparative study, the effect of carbon black (CB) on the thermal ageing characteristics of poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (EVA) was investigated. EVA, containing 13% vinyl acetate (VA), and poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate)/carbon black mixture (EVA/CB) containing 13% VA and 1% CB were aged at 85°C in air up to 30 weeks. Sol‐gel analysis experiments were made to determine the percentage gelation of both virgin and aged samples. FT‐IR measurements were performed to follow the chemical changes which took place in the samples during ageing. Dynamic and isothermal thermogravimetric studies were performed for determination of the thermal stabilities of virgin and aged samples. Sol‐gel analysis results showed that EVA itself has a tendency to form a gel under thermal treatment, whereas EVA/CB never becomes a gel when being thermally aged under the same conditions. As a result of FT‐IR measurements, some oxidation products such as ketone, lactone and vinyl species were observed through thermal ageing of EVA. It is also clear that these kind of oxidation products did not appear to a considerable extent in EVA/CB. Thermal analysis experiments exhibit that thermal stability of EVA decreased through thermal ageing; whereas that of EVA/CB remained almost unchanged. Pyrolysis, in combination with gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, has been used for characterization of poly(vinyl acetate) synthesized by matrix polymerization in the presence of Sephadex gel G-50. The relation was accomplished in an inert medium and initiated by u.v. radiation. For Sephadex/vinyl acetate weight ratios around 3, the polymer has a regular structure, especially with decrease of polymerization temperatures.  相似文献

Nanocomposites of poly(vinyl alcohol)/silica nanoparticles (PVA-SNs) were prepared by in-situ radical copolymerization of vinyl silica nanoparticles functionalized by vinyltriethoxysilane (VTEOS) and vinyl acetate with benzoyl peroxide (BPO, i.e., initiator), subsequently saponified via direct hydrolysis with NaOH solution. The resulting vinyl silica nanoparticles, PVA-SNs were characterized by means of fourier transformation spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the elemental analysis method. Effects of silica nanoparticles on viscosity and alcoholysis of PVA-SNs were studied by a ubbelohode capillary viscometer and the back titration method. The morphological structure of PVA-SN films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and tensile test were used to determine the thermal and mechanical properties of PVA-SN films. The results indicated that the content of vinyl groups on the surface of the vinyl silica nanoparticles was up to 3.02 mmol/g and vinyl silica nanoparticles had been successfully copolymerized with vinyl acetate. Furthermore, compared to pure PVA, silica nanoparticles bonded with polymer matrix in a low concentration affected the viscosity and alcoholysis of the PVA-SNs materials. At the same time, it resulted in the improvement of the thermal and mechanical properties of the PVA-SN materials due to a strong interaction between silica nanoparticles and the polymer matrix via a covalent bond. It could be found that the optical clarity of the membrane was changed through UV-Vis absorption spectrum due to the introduction of silica nanoparticles.  相似文献

In this comparative study, the effect of carbon black (CB) on the UV aging characteristics of poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (EVA) was investigated. EVA, containing 13% vinyl acetate (VA), and poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate)/carbon black mixture (EVA/CB), containing 13% VA and 1% CB, were aged by means of UV light with a wavelength in the vicinity of 259 nm, in air, up to 400 hr. Sol‐gel analyses were made to determine the percentage gelation of both virgin and aged samples. FT‐IR measurements were performed to follow the chemical changes which took place in the samples during aging. Dynamic and isothermal thermogravimetry studies were performed for determination of the thermal stabilities of virgin and aged samples. Sol‐gel analysis results showed that EVA itself has a tendency to form a gel under UV irradiation. EVA/CB, however, becomes a gel to a smaller extent, comparatively, under the same conditions. As a result of FT‐IR measurements, some oxidation products such as ketone, lactone and vinyl species were observed through UV ageing of EVA and EVA/CB. Thermal analysis experiments exhibited that the thermal stabilities of EVA and EVA/CB decreased, to a similar extent through UV aging. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Graphite oxide, a pseudo-two-dimensional solid in bulk form, was synthesized from natural graphite powder byoxidization with KMnO_4 in concentrated H_2SO_4. The poly(vinyl acetate)-intercalated graphite oxide nano-composite wasprepared by an in situ intercalative polymerization reaction, in which n-octanol-graphite oxide intercalation compounds werefirst obtained, vinyl acetate monomer was then dispersed into the interlayer of modified graphite oxide, followed by thermalpolymerization of the monomer. It was experimentally shown that the c-axis space of poly(vinyl acetate)-intercalated graphiteoxide was increased to 0.115 nm, which suggested there existed a monolayer of poly(vinyl acetate) chain between the layersof graphite oxide. The nanocomposite was also characterized with thermal analysis and FT-IR spectrometry.  相似文献

The degradation of the binary polymer blends, poly(vinyl acetate)/poly(vinyl chloride), poly(vinyl acetate)/poly(vinylidene chloride) and poly(vinyl acetate)/polychloroprene has been studied by using thermal volatilization analysis, thermogravimetry, evolved gas analysis for hydrogen chloride and acetic acid, and spectroscopic methods. For the first two systems named, strong interaction occurs in the degrading blend, but the polychloroprene blends showed no indication of interaction. In the PVA/PVC and PVA/PVDC blends, hydrogen chloride from the chlorinated polymer causes substantial acceleration in the deacetylation of PVA. Acetic acid from PVA destabilizes PVC but has little effect in the case of PVDC because of the widely differing degradation temperatures of PVA and PVDC. The presence of hydrogen chloride during the degradation of PVA results in the formation of longer conjugated sequences, and the regression in sequence length at high extents of deacetylation found for PVA degraded alone is not observed.  相似文献

Poly(vinyl acetate)-b-polystyrene, poly(vinyl acetate)-b-poly(methyl acrylate) and poly(vinyl acetate)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) block copolymers with low polydispersity (M(w)/M(n) < 1.25) were prepared by successive reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) employing a bromoxanthate iniferter (initiator-transfer agent-terminator).  相似文献

The well-known bio-based and biocompostable poly(lactic acid), PLA, suffers from brittleness and a low heat distortion temperature. In this paper, we address a possible route to make PLA tough(er) by blending with ethylene-co-vinyl acetate (EVA) with different vinyl acetate contents. The compatibility and phase morphology of the PLA/EVA blends was controlled by the ratio of vinyl acetate and ethylene in the random copolymers. Tough PLA/EVA blends with increased impact toughness, up to a factor of 30, were obtained with a maximum toughness at a vinyl acetate content of approximately 50 wt.%. The local deformation mechanism was well studied by TEM, SAXS and SEM. It revealed that internal rubber cavitation in combination with matrix yielding is the dominant toughening mechanism for the PLA/EVA blends under both impact and tensile testing conditions.  相似文献
