We develop a hydroelastic model based on a {3, 2}-order sandwich composite panel theory and Wagner’s water impact theory for investigating the fluid–structure interaction during the slamming process. The sandwich panel theory incorporates the transverse shear and the transverse normal deformations of the core, while the face sheets are modeled with the Kirchhoff plate theory. The structural model has been validated with the general purpose finite element code ABAQUS®. The hydrodynamic model, based on Wagner’s theory, considers hull’s elastic deformations. A numerical procedure to solve the nonlinear system of governing equations, from which both the fluid’s and the structure’s deformations can be simultaneously computed, has been developed and verified. The hydroelastic effect on hull’s deformations and the unsteady slamming load have been delineated. This work advances the state of the art of analyzing hydroelastic deformations of composite hulls subjected to slamming impact.  相似文献

Direct contact condensation (DCC) of steam jet in subcooled water flow in a channel was experimentally studied. The main inlet parameters, including steam mass flux, water mass flux and water temperature were tested in the ranges of 200–600 kg/(m2 s), 7–18 × 103 kg/(m2 s), 288–333 K, respectively. Two unstable flow patterns and two stable flow patterns were observed via visualization window by a high speed camera. The flow patterns were determined by steam mass flux, water mass flux and water temperature, and the relationship between flow patterns and flow field parameters was discussed. The results indicated that whether pressure or temperature distributions on the bottom wall of channel could represent different flow patterns. And the position of pressure peak on the bottom wall could almost represent the condensation length. The upper wall pressure distributions were mainly dependent on steam and water mass flux; and the upper wall temperature distributions were affected by the three main inlet parameters. Moreover, the bottom wall pressure and temperature distributions of different unstable flow patterns had similar characteristics while those of stable flow patterns were affected by shock and expansion waves. The underlying cause of transition between different flow patterns under different inlet parameters was reflected and discussed based on pressure distributions.  相似文献

In-line flow segregators based on axial induction of swirling flow have important applications in chemical, process and petroleum production industries. In the later, the segregation of gas bubbles and/or water droplets dispersed into viscous oil by swirling pipe flow may be beneficial by either providing a pre-separation mechanism (bubble and/or drop coalescer) or, in the case of water-in-oil dispersions, by causing a water-lubricated flow pattern to establish in the pipe (friction reduction). Works addressing these applications are rare in the literature. In this paper, the features and capabilities of swirling pipe flow axially induced by a vane-type swirl generator were investigated both numerically and experimentally. The numerical analysis has been carried out using a commercial CFD package for axial Reynolds numbers less than 2000. Pressure drop, tangential and axial velocity components as well as swirl intensity along a 5 cm i.d. size and 3 m long pipe were computed. Single phase flow experiments have been performed using a water–glycerin solution of 54 mPa s viscosity and 1210 kg/m3 density as working fluid. The numerical predictions of the pressure drop were compared with the experimental data and agreement could be observed within the range of experimental conditions. The experiments confirmed that swirl flow leads to much higher friction factors compared with theoretical values for non-swirl (i.e. purely axial) flow. Furthermore, the addition of a conical trailing edge reduces vortex breakdown. Visualization of the two-phase swirling flow pattern was achieved by adding different amounts of air to the water–glycerin solution upstream the swirl generator.  相似文献

This paper proposes a numerical method for analyzing whipping using a fully coupled hydroelastic model. The numerical analysis method utilizes a 3-D Rankine panel method, 1-D/3-D finite element methods, and a 2-D generalized Wagner model, which are strongly coupled in the time domain. The computational results were compared with those of a model test of an 18 000-TEU containership. The slamming pressures and whipping responses to regular waves for bow flare and stern slamming were compared. Furthermore, the slamming pressure was decomposed into its dynamic and static components. The numerical and experimental models produced similar results. In addition, the effects of the discretization and geometric approximation of the 2-D slamming sections were investigated.  相似文献

The Large Eddy Simulation model was introduced to study the micro spray characteristics under ultra-high injection pressure (>220 MPa). EFS8400 spray test platform was set up to verify the accuracy of the numerical model. The mechanisms of micro spray characteristics were studied intensively under different injection pressures (180 MPa, 240 MPa) and nozzle diameters (0.1 mm, 0.16 mm). The results indicated that the micro turbulence vortex structures can be captured, especially in the liquid spray core area. Large Eddy Simulation model combined with the small grid size of 0.25 mm show a huge advantage in studying the micro spray characteristics under ultra-high injection pressure; The turbulence vorticity and spray velocity for injection pressure of 240 MPa are more intensive than that of 180 MPa, and also the ultra-high injection pressure can contribute to strong turbulence disturbance between spray and surrounding air, which is helpful to improve the quality of spray; The spray velocity field extended wider for the diameter of 0.16 mm, and also the values of velocity in the spray center is higher than that of the diameter of 0.1 mm; The entrainment vortex appeared at the edge of the large velocity gradient between spray and surrounding air, and the higher velocity gradient for ultra-high injection pressure (240 MPa) between the spray and air is easier to increase the generation of entrainment vortex in the downstream of the spray, which can significantly increase the quality of spray and atomization.  相似文献

Momentum transfer from shock waves (SWs) of various intensity (from 0.05 MPa to 0.5 MPa in amplitude) to water containing air bubbles 2.5 to 4 mm of mean diameter is studied both experimentally and by means of numerical simulation. Experiments are performed in a vertical shock tube of a 50 × 100 mm2 rectangular cross section consisting of a 495-mm long high-pressure section (HPS), 495-mm long low-pressure section (LPS), and 990 mm long test section (TS) equipped with an air bubbler and filled with water. Experiments have shown that as the initial gas volume fraction in water increases from 0 to 0.3 the momentum imparted in bubbly water by SWs increases monotonically, gradually levelling off at an air volume fraction of about 0.30. The experimental data are confirmed by two-dimensional (2D) simulation of SW propagation in bubbly water in terms of the SW velocity versus the air content, pressure profiles, as well as liquid and gas velocity behind the shock front.  相似文献

A circular water jet (Re = 1.6 × 105; We = 8.8 × 103) plunging at shallow angles (θ  12.5°) into a quiescent pool is investigated computationally and experimentally. A surprising finding from the work is that cavities, of the order of jet diameter, are formed periodically in the impact location, even though the impinging flow is smooth and completely devoid of such a periodicity. Computational prediction of these frequencies was compared with experimental findings, yielding excellent agreement. The region in the vicinity of the impact is characterized by strong churning due to splashing and formation of air cavities. Measured velocity profiles indicate a concentration of momentum beneath the free surface slightly beyond the impact location (X/Dj  14), with a subsequent shift towards the free surface further downstream of this point (X/Dj  30). This shift is due primarily to the action of buoyancy on the cavity/bubble population. Comparisons of the mean velocity profile between simulations and experiments are performed, yielding good agreement, with the exception of the relatively small churning flow region. Further downstream (X/Dj  40), the flow develops mostly due to diffusion and the location of peak velocity coincides with the free surface. In this region, the free surface acts as an adiabatic boundary and restricts momentum diffusion, causing the peak velocity to occur at the free surface.  相似文献

An accurate estimation of the total pressure drop of a pipeline is important to the reliable design of a pneumatic conveying system. The present paper presents results from an investigation into the modelling of the pressure drop at a bend in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash. Seven existing bend models were used (in conjunction with solids friction models for horizontal and vertical straight pipes, and initial acceleration losses) to predict the total pipeline pressure drop in conveying fly ash (median particle diameter: 30 μm; particle density: 2300 kg/m3; loose-poured bulk density: 700 kg/m3) in three test rigs (pipelines with dimensions of 69 mm inner diameter (I.D.) × 168 m length; 105 mm I.D. × 168 m length; 69 mm I.D. × 554 m length). A comparison of the pneumatic conveying characteristics (PCC) predicted using the seven bend models and experimental results shows that the predicted total pipeline PCC and trends depend on the choice of bend model. While some models predict trends that agree with the experimental results, other models predicted greater bend pressure drops for the dense phase of fly ash than for the dilute phase. This paper presents and analyzes the behaviour of TRIP 1000 steel sheets subjected to low velocity perforation by conical projectiles. The relevance of this material resides in the potential transformation of retained austenite to martensite during impact loading. This process leads to an increase in strength and ductility of the material. However, this transformation takes place only under certain loading conditions strongly dependent on the initial temperature and deformation rate. In order to study the material behaviour under impact loading, perforation tests have been performed using a drop weight tower. Experiments were carried out at two different initial temperatures T0 = 213 K and T0 = 288 K, and within the range of impact velocities 2.5 m/s ? V0 ? 4.5 m/s. The experimental setup enabled the measuring of impact velocity, residual velocity, load-time history and failure mode. In addition, dry and lubricated contacts between the striker and the plate have been investigated. Finally, by using X-ray diffraction it has been shown that no martensitic transformation takes place during the perforation process. The causes involving the none-appearance of martensite are examined.  相似文献

This paper reports an experimental investigation of the heat transfer performance of the new low-GWP refrigerants, R1234yf and R1234ze(E), during flow boiling heat transfer inside a horizontal high porosity copper foam with 5 Pores Per Inch (PPI). Metal foams are a class of cellular structured materials consisting of a stochastic distribution of interconnected pores; these materials have been proposed as effective solutions for heat transfer enhancement during both single and two-phase heat transfer. R1234yf and R1234ze(E) refrigerants are appealing alternatives of the more traditional R134a by virtue of their negligible values of GWP and normal boiling temperatures close to that of R134a, which make them suitable solution in several different applications, such as: refrigeration and air conditioning and electronic thermal management. This work compares the two-phase heat transfer behaviour of these new HFO refrigerants, studying the boiling process inside a porous medium and permitting to understand their effective heat transfer capabilities. The experimental measurements were carried out by imposing three different heat fluxes: 50, 75, and 100 kW m−2, at a constant saturation temperature of 30 °C; the refrigerant mass velocity was varied between 50 and 200 kg m−2 s−1, whilst the mean vapour quality varied from 0.2 to 0.95. The two-phase heat transfer and pressure drop performance of the two new HFO refrigerants is compared against that of the more traditional R134a.  相似文献

The local flow characteristics of oil–water dispersed flow in a vertical upward pipe were studied experimentally. The inner diameter and length of the test section are 40 mm and 3800 mm, respectively. A double-sensor conductivity probe was used to measure the local interfacial parameters, including interfacial area concentration, oil phase fraction, interfacial velocity, and oil drops Sauter mean diameter. The water flow rates varied from 0.12 m/s to 0.89 m/s, while the oil flow rates ranged from 0.024 m/s to 0.198 m/s. Typical radial profiles of interfacial area concentration, oil phase fraction, interfacial velocity, and oil drops Sauter mean diameter are presented. An interesting phenomenon is that the local and cross-section-averaged interfacial area concentrations display concave change with water flow rate under constant oil flow rate. The physical mechanism of such a variation is discussed in details.  相似文献

The present study has attempted to investigate phase inversion and frictional pressure gradients during simultaneous vertical flow of oil and water two-phase through upward and downward pipes. The liquids selected were white oil (44 mPa s viscosity and 860 kg/m3 density) and water. The measurements were made for phase velocities varying from 0 to 1.24 m/s for water and from 0 to 1.87 m/s for oil, respectively. Experiments were carried either by keeping the mixture velocity constant and increasing the dispersed phase fraction or by keeping the continuous phase superficial velocity constant and increasing the dispersed phase superficial velocity. From the experimental results, it is shown that the frictional pressure gradient reaches to its lower value at the phase inversion point in this work. The points of phase inversion are always close to an input oil fraction of 0.8 for upward flow and of 0.75 for downward flow, respectively. A few models published in the literature are used to predict the phase inversion point and to compare the results with available experimental data. Suitable methods are suggested to predict the critical oil holdup at phase inversion based on the different viscosity ratio ranges. Furthermore, the frictional pressure gradient is analyzed with several suitable theoretical models according to the existing flow patterns. The analysis reveals that both the theoretical curves and the experimental data exhibit the same trend and the overall agreement of predicted values with experimental data is good, especially for a high oil fraction.  相似文献

Measurements of gas holdups in bubble columns of 0.16, 0.30 and 0.33 m diameter were carried out. These columns were operated in co-current flow of gas and liquid phases and in semibatch mode. The column of 0.33 m diameter was operated at elevated pressures of up to 3.6 MPa. Nitrogen was employed as the gas phase and deionized water, aqueous solutions of ethanol and acetone and pure acetone and cumene as the liquid phase. The effects of differing liquid properties, gas density (due to elevated pressure), temperature, column diameter and superficial liquid velocity on gas holdup were studied. The gas holdup measurements were utilized by differential pressure measurements at different positions along the height of the bubble columns which allowed for the identification of axial gas holdup profiles. A decrease of gas holdup with increasing column diameter and an increase of gas holdup with increasing pressure was observed. The effect of a slightly decreasing gas holdup with increasing liquid velocity was found to exist at smaller column diameters. The use of organic solvents as the liquid phase resulted in a significant increase in gas holdup compared to deionized water. It is found that published gas holdup models are mostly unable to predict the results obtained in this study.  相似文献

This study uses a high-speed visualization technique to investigate the breakup process and flow behavior of low pressure water jets issued from non-circular orifices including square, triangular, and rectangular shapes. These orifices have approximately the same sectional areas. Stability curve and Ohnesorge chart are employed to make a comparison with circular jets discharged from a circular orifice of the same sectional area. The analysis is carried out for gauge pressures varying from 0.1 psi to 70 psi with small pressure steps corresponding to a range from 0.7 kPa to 482.6 kPa in metric units. Axis-switching phenomenon is observed and analyzed through calculating the axis-switching wavelength and oscillation frequency for rectangular jets. It is found that results for circular jets agreed well with classic theory. Non-circular jets demonstrate enhanced instabilities as a whole compared to circular jets. The different behaviors of non-circular jets are reasonably explained by Rayleigh’s oscillation theory. Axis-switching and aspect-ratio effect in rectangular jets is found to slow down the increase of breakup-length in the Rayleigh breakup regime. Square and triangular jets are more susceptible to wind effects and they are more unstable especially at higher pressure conditions. This can be concluded from the shorter breakup-length and narrower transitional region from the Rayleigh regime to the wind-induced regime as compared to the circular and rectangular jets. Axis-switching wavelength of the rectangular jets is found to increase linearly with increasing jet velocity and oscillation frequency decreases correspondingly.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an ongoing investigation into transient pressure pulses using Shannon entropy. Pressure fluctuations (produced by gas–solid two-phase flow during fluidized dense-phase conveying) are recorded by pressure transducers installed at strategic locations along a pipeline. This work validates previous work on identifying the flow mode from pressure signals (Mittal, Mallick, & Wypych, 2014). Two different powders, namely fly ash (median particle diameter 45 μm, particle density 1950 kg/m3, loosely poured bulk density 950 kg/m3) and cement (median particle diameter 15 μm, particle density 3060 kg/m3, loosely poured bulk density 1070 kg/m3), are conveyed through different pipelines (51 mm I.D. × 70 m length and 63 mm I.D. × 24 m length). The transient nature of pressure fluctuations (instead of steady-state behavior) is considered in investigating flow characteristics. Shannon entropy is found to increase along straight pipe sections for both solids and both pipelines. However, Shannon entropy decreases after a bend. A comparison of Shannon entropy among different ranges of superficial air velocity reveals that high Shannon entropy corresponds to very low velocities (i.e. 3–5 m/s) and very high velocities (i.e. 11–14 m/s) while low Shannon entropy corresponds to mid-range velocities (i.e. 6–8 m/s).  相似文献

The tendency of today’s fuel injection systems to reach injection pressures up to 3000 bar in order to meet forthcoming emission regulations may significantly increase liquid temperatures due to friction heating; this paper identifies numerically the importance of fuel pressurization, phase-change due to cavitation, wall heat transfer and needle valve motion on the fluid heating induced in high pressure Diesel fuel injectors. These parameters affect the nozzle discharge coefficient (Cd), fuel exit temperature, cavitation volume fraction and temperature distribution within the nozzle. Variable fuel properties, being a function of the local pressure and temperature are found necessary in order to simulate accurately the effects of depressurization and heating induced by friction forces. Comparison of CFD predictions against a 0-D thermodynamic model, indicates that although the mean exit temperature increase relative to the initial fuel temperature is proportional to (1  Cd2) at fixed needle positions, it can significantly deviate from this value when the motion of the needle valve, controlling the opening and closing of the injection process, is taken into consideration. Increasing the inlet pressure from 2000 bar, which is the pressure utilized in today’s fuel systems to 3000 bar, results to significantly increased fluid temperatures above the boiling point of the Diesel fuel components and therefore regions of potential heterogeneous fuel boiling are identified.  相似文献

Oil–water two-phase flow experiments were conducted in horizontal ducts made of Plexiglas® to determine the in situ oil fraction (holdup) by means of the closing valves technique, using mineral oil (viscosity: 0.838 Pa s at 20 °C; density: 890 kg m−3) and tap water. The ducts present sudden contractions from 50 mm to 40 mm i.d. and from 50 mm to 30 mm i.d., with contraction ratios of 0.64 and 0.36, respectively. About 200–320 tests were performed by varying the flow rates of the phases. Flow patterns were investigated for both the up- and downstream pipe in order to assess whether relevant variations of the flow patterns across the sudden contraction take place. Data were then compared with predictions of a specific correlation for oil–water flow and some correlations for gas–water flow. A drift-flux model was also applied to determine the distribution parameter.  相似文献

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is used to investigate the hydrodynamics of a gas–solid fluidized bed with two vertical jets. Sand particles with a density of 2660 kg/m3 and a diameter of 5.0 × 10?4 m are employed as the solid phase. Numerical computation is carried out in a 0.57 m × 1.00 m two-dimensional bed using a commercial CFD code, CFX 4.4, together with user-defined Fortran subroutines. The applicability of the CFD model is validated by predicting the bed pressure drop in a bubbling fluidized bed, and the jet detachment time and equivalent bubble diameter in a fluidized bed with a single jet. Subsequently, the model is used to explore the hydrodynamics of two vertical jets in a fluidized bed. The computational results reveal three flow patterns, isolated, merged and transitional jets, depending on the nozzle separation distance and jet gas velocity and influencing significantly the solid circulation pattern. The jet penetration depth is found to increase with increasing jet gas velocity, and can be predicted reasonably well by the correlations of Hong et al. (2003) for isolated jets and of Yang and Keairns (1979) for interacting jets.  相似文献

The two-phase flow of a hydrophobic ionic liquid and water was studied in capillaries made of three different materials (two types of Teflon, FEP and Tefzel, and glass) with sizes between 200 μm and 270 μm. The ionic liquid was 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis{(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl}amide, with density and viscosity of 1420 kg m−3 and 0.041 kg m−1 s−1, respectively. Flow patterns and pressure drop were measured for two inlet configurations (T- and Y-junction), for total flow rates of 0.065–214.9 cm3 h−1 and ionic liquid volume fractions from 0.05 to 0.8. The continuous phase in the glass capillary depended on the fluid that initially filled the channel. When water was introduced first, it became the continuous phase with the ionic liquid forming plugs or a mixture of plugs and drops within it. In the Teflon microchannels, the order that fluids were introduced did not affect the results and the ionic liquid was always the continuous phase. The main patterns observed were annular, plug, and drop flow. Pressure drop in the Teflon microchannels at a constant ionic liquid flow rate, was found to increase as the ionic liquid volume fraction decreased, and was always higher than the single phase ionic liquid value at the same flow rate as in the two-phase mixture. However, in the glass microchannel during plug flow with water as the continuous phase, pressure drop for a constant ionic liquid flow rate was always lower than the single phase ionic liquid value. A modified plug flow pressure drop model using a correlation for film thickness derived for the current fluids pair showed very good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

An optical measurement method using image processing for two-phase flow pattern characterization in minichannel is developed. The bubble frequency, the percentage of small bubbles as well as their velocity are measured. A high-speed high-definition video camera is used to measure these parameters and to identify the flow regimes and their transitions. The tests are performed in a 3.0 mm glass channel using saturated R-245fa at 60 °C (4.6 bar). The mass velocity is ranging from 100 to 1500 kg/m2 s, the heat flux is varying from 10 to 90 kW/m2 and the inlet vapor quality from 0 to 1. Four flow patterns (bubbly flow, bubbly–slug flow, slug flow and annular flow) are recognized. The comparison between the present experimental intermittent/annular transition lines and five transition lines from macroscale and microscale flow pattern maps available in the literature is presented. Finally, the influence of the flow pattern on the heat transfer coefficient is highlighted.  相似文献
