In this paper we first summarize the magnetic and mechanical balance equations for magnetorheological fluids undergoing steady motion in the presence of a magnetic field. A general three-dimensional non-linear constitutive law for such a fluid is given for the case in which the magnetic induction vector is used as the independent magnetic variable. The equations are needed for the analysis of boundary-value problems involving fluids with dispersed micron-sized ferrous particles subjected to a time-independent magnetic field. For illustration, the equations are applied, in the case of an incompressible fluid, to the solution of some basic problems. We consider unidirectional flow in a region confined by two infinite parallel plates with a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the plates. Next, we examine two problems involving a circular cylindrical geometry with the fluid occupying the region between two concentric cylinders: axial flow subjected to an axial magnetic field and circumferential flow with a circumferential field. After making some simplifying assumptions on the constitutive law and choosing material parameters, numerical solutions for the velocity profiles are illustrated.  相似文献

The problem on the vibrations of a magnetoelastic ferromagnetic plate was studied in [1–5] from the viewpoint of the averaging approach, i.e., on the basis of the classical Kirchhoff hypothesis. In [6–10], a new approach proposed for elastic plates in [11] was used to derive dispersion relations for magnetoelastic plates. In [10], the 3D approach was used to obtain the ferromagnetic plate vibration frequencies; in the case of a transverse magnetic field, the equations of the perturbed motion of the plates were written out with the initial stresses taken into account [5, 12] but without considering the initial strains. In [13, 14], the problems on the vibrations of conducting plates in a magnetic field were studied. In the present paper, we derive the dispersion equations, which are asymptotic equations for small magnetic fields and exact equations for the initial stresses and strains related by Hooke’s law. The corresponding numerical computations are also performed.  相似文献

The basic equations of a fully nonlinear theory of electromagnetically conducting flat plates carrying an electric current and exposed to a magnetic field of arbitrary orientation are derived. The relevant equations have been obtained by considering that both the elastic and electromagnetic media are homogeneous and isotropic. The geometrical nonlinearities are considered in the von-Kármán sense, and the soft ferromagnetic material of the plate is assumed to feature negligible hysteretic losses. Based on the electromagnetic and elastokinetic field equations, by using the standard averaging methods, the 3-D coupled problem is reduced to an equivalent 2-D one, appropriate to the theory of plates. Having in view that the elastic structures carrying an electric current are prone to buckling, by using the presently developed theory, the associated problems of buckling and postbuckling are investigated. In this context, the problem of the electrical current inducing the buckling instability of the plate, and its influence on the postbuckling behavior are analyzed. In the same context, the problem of the natural frequency–electrical current interaction of flat plates, as influenced by a magnetic field is also addressed.  相似文献

The dynamic response of orthotropic sandwich composite plates impacted by time-dependent external blast pulses is studied by use of numerical techniques. The theory is based on classical sandwich plate theory including the large deformation effects, such as geometric non-linearities, in-plane stiffness and inertias, and shear deformation. The equations of motion for the plate are derived by the use of the virtual work principle. Approximate solutions are assumed for the space domain and substituted into the equations of motion. Then the Galerkin Method is used to obtain the non-linear differential equations in the time domain. The finite difference method is applied to solve the system of coupled non-linear equations. The results of theoretical analyses are obtained and compared with ANSYS results. Effects of the face sheet number, as well as those related to the ply-thickness, core thickness, geometrical non-linearities, and of the aspect ratio are investigated. Detailed analyses of the influence of different type of pressure pulses on dynamic response are carried out.  相似文献

The paper presents a new approach in the bending analysis of helicoidal structures with a large non-linear pretwist and an external lateral loading. It also addresses the issue as to what extent the linearized twisting curvature is applicable in the analysis of pretwisted plates. Employing a non-linear helicoidal model and a natural orthogonal coordinate system, the large non-linear pretwist is formulated and the energy stored in a distorted helicoid subjected to an external pressure normal to the helicoid axis is derived. By integrating the internal strain energy and external pressure work over the helicoidal domain, a non-homogeneous system of equations is presented and numerical solutions are obtained. Significant structural responses such as deformation components and resultant, the effects of width and thickness of helicoid on bending are analyzed and discussed. The analysis can be extended to other areas of interest such as turbomachinery blades, drilling structures, motors in micro-electro-mechanical systems and also DNA biomechanics.  相似文献

Hydromagnetic flow between two horizontal plates in a rotating system, where the lower is a stretching sheet and the upper is a porous solid plate (in the presence of a magnetic field), is analyzed. The equations of conservation of mass and momentum are reduced to a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations. These basic non-linear differential equations, for the velocity field (f′,f,g), are solved numerically by using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration scheme. The numerical results thus obtained are validated by the analytical results (for small R) obtained by the perturbation technique and presented through graphs. Also, the effects of the non-dimensional parameters R, λ, M2 and K2 on the velocity field are discussed, and it is shown that for large K2, the coriolis force and the magnetic field that act against the pressure gradient cause reverse flow.  相似文献

In the present paper the unsteady flow and heat transfer of a dusty conducting fluid between two parallel plates with temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity are studied. A constant pressure gradient and an external uniform magnetic field is applied. The governing coupled momentum and energy equations are solved numerically using finite differences. In this paper, non-linear deformation behavior of magnetostrictive materials is studied and three magnetoelastic coupling constitutive models are developed. The standard square (SS) constitutive model is developed by means of truncating the polynomial expansion of the Gibbs free energy. The hyperbolic tangent (HT) constitutive equations, which involve a hyperbolic tangent magnetic-field dependence, are proposed to model the magnetic-field-induced strain saturation of magnetostrictive materials in the region of intense magnetic fields. A new model based on density of domain switching (DDS) is established in terms of the basic truth that magnetic domain switching underlies magnetostrictive deformation. In this model, it is assumed that the relation between density of domain switching, defined by the quantity of magnetic domains switched by per unit magnetic field and magnetic field can be described by a density function with normal distribution. The moduli in these constitutive models can be determined by a material function that is proposed to describe the dependence of the peak piezomagnetic coefficient on the compressive pre-stress for one-dimensional cases based on the experimental results published. The accuracy of the non-linear constitutive relations is evaluated by comparing the theoretical values with experimental results of a Terfenol-D rod operated under both compressive pre-stress and bias magnetic field. Results indicate that the SS constitutive equations can accurately predict the experimental results under a low or moderate magnetic field while the HT model can, to some extent, reflect the trend of saturation of magnetostrictive strain under a high magnetic field. The model based on DDS, which is more effective in simulating the experimental curves, can capture the main characteristics of the mechanism of magnetoelastic coupling deformation of a Terfenol-D rod, such as the notable dependence of magnetoelastic response on external stress and the saturation of magnetostrictive strain under intense magnetic fields. In addition, the SS constitutive relation for a general three-dimensional problem is discussed and an approach to characterize the modulus tensors is proposed.  相似文献

This paper studies unsteady laminar flow of dusty conducting fluid between parallel porous plates with temperature dependent viscosity and the Network Simulation Method (NSM) is used to solve the governing nonlinear partial differential equations. The fluid is acted upon by a constant pressure gradient and an external uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plates that are assumed to be porous. The NSM is applied to solve the steady-state and transient problems of flow and heat transfer for both the fluid and dust particles. With this method, only discretization of the spatial co-ordinates is necessary, while time remains as a real continuous variable. The velocity and temperature are studied for different values of the viscosity and magnetic field parameters.  相似文献

Post-buckling behaviour of sandwich plates with functionally graded material (FGM) face sheets under uniform temperature rise loading is considered. It is assumed that the plate is in contact with a Pasternak-type elastic foundation during deformation, which acts in both compression and tension. The derivation of equations is based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory. Thermomechanical non-homogeneous properties of FGM layers vary smoothly by the distribution of power law across the thickness, and temperature dependency of material constituents is taken into account. Using the non-linear von-Karman strain-displacement relations, the equilibrium and compatibility equations of imperfect sandwich plates with FGM face sheets are derived. The boundary conditions for the plate are assumed to be simply supported in all edges. The governing equations are reduced to two coupled equation in terms of stress function and lateral deflection. Employing the single mode approach combined with Galerkin technique, an approximate closed-form solution is presented to calculate the critical buckling temperature and post-buckling equilibrium path of the plate. Presented numerical examples contain the influences of power law index, sandwich plate geometry, geometrical imperfection, temperature dependency, and the elastic foundation coefficients.  相似文献

The plates interacting with inviscid, incompressible, potential gas flow are analyzed. Many modes interaction is considered to describe self-sustained vibrations of plates. The singular integral equation is solved to obtain gas pressures acting on the plate. The Von Karman equations with respect to three displacements are used to describe the plate geometrical non-linear vibrations. The Galerkin method is applied to each partial differential equation to obtain the finite-degree-of-freedom model of the plate vibrations. Self-sustained vibrations, which take place due to the Hopf bifurcation, are investigated. These vibrations undergo the Naimark?CSacker bifurcation and the periodic motions are transformed into the almost periodic ones. If the stream velocity is increased, almost periodic motions are transformed into chaotic ones. As a result of the internal resonance, the saturation of the vibration mode is observed. The non-linear dynamics of low- and high-aspect-ratio plates is analyzed.  相似文献

A method to study dynamical instability and non-linear parametric vibrations of symmetrically laminated plates of complex shapes and having different cutouts is proposed. The first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the classical plate theory (CPT) are used to formulate a mathematical statement of the given problem. The presence of cutouts essentially complicates the solution of buckling problem, since the stress field is non-uniform. At first, a plane stress analysis is carried out using the variational Ritz method and the R-functions theory. The obtained results are applied to investigate buckling and parametric vibrations of laminated plates. The developed method uses the R-functions theory, and it may be directly employed to study laminated plates of arbitrary forms and different boundary conditions. Besides, the proposed method is numerical-analytical, what greatly facilitates a solution of similar-like non-linear problems. In order to show the advantage of the developed approach, instability zones and response curves for the layered cross- and angle-ply plates with external cutouts are constructed and discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical approach to investigate the non-linear axisymmetric response of functionally graded shallow spherical shells subjected to uniform external pressure incorporating the effects of temperature. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-independent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of constituents. Equilibrium and compatibility equations for shallow spherical shells are derived by using the classical shell theory and specialized for axisymmetric deformation with both geometrical non-linearity and initial geometrical imperfection are taken into consideration. One-term deflection mode is assumed and explicit expressions of buckling loads and load-deflection curves are determined due to Galerkin method. Stability analysis for a clamped spherical shell shows the effects of material and geometric parameters, edge restraint and temperature conditions, and imperfection on the behavior of the shells.  相似文献

An analysis is performed to study the magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting, viscous incompressible fluid past a semi-infinite vertical plate with variable surface temperature under the action of transversely applied magnetic field. The heat due to viscous dissipation and the induced magnetic field are assumed to be negligible. The dimensionless governing equations are unsteady, two-dimensional, coupled and non-linear governing equations. It is found that the magnetic field parameter has a retarding effect on the velocities of air and water.  相似文献

This paper deals with the non-linear viscoelastodynamics of three-dimensional rotating structure undergoing finite displacement. In addition, the non-linear dynamics is studied with respect to geometrical and mechanical perturbations. On part of the boundary of the structure, a rigid body displacement field is applied which moves the structure in a rotation motion. A time-dependent Dirichlet condition is applied to another part of the boundary. For instance, this corresponds to the cycle step of a helicopter rotor blade. A surface force field is applied to the third part of the boundary and depends on the time history of the structural displacement field. For example, this might corresponds to general unsteady aerodynamics forces applied to the structure. The objective of this paper is to model the non-linear dynamic behavior of such a rotating viscoelastic structure undergoing finite displacements, and to allow small geometrical and mechanical (mass, constitutive equations) perturbations analysis to be performed. The model is constructed by the introduction of a reference configuration which is deduced from the non-linear steady boundary value problem. A constitutive equation deduced from the Coleman and Noll theory concerning the viscoelasticity in finite displacement is used. Thereafter, the weak formulation of the boundary value problem is constructed and discretized using the finite element method. In order to simplify the mathematical study of the equations, multilinear forms are introduced in the algebraic calculation and their mathematical properties are presented.  相似文献

Multi-frequency vibrations of a system of two isotropic circular plates interconnected by a visco-elastic layer that has non-linear characteristics are considered. The considered physical system should be of interest to many researches from mechanical and civil engineering. The first asymptotic approximation of the solutions describing stationary and no stationary behavior, in the regions around the two coupled resonances, is the principal result of the authors. A series of the amplitude-frequency and phase-frequency curves of the two frequency like vibration regimes are presented. That curves present the evolution of the first asymptotic approximation of solutions for different non-linear harmonics obtained by changing external excitation frequencies through discrete as well as continuous values. System of the partial differential equations of the transversal oscillations of the sandwich double circular plate system with visco-non-linear elastic layer, excited by external, distributed, along plate surfaces, excitation are derived and approximately solved for various initial conditions and external excitation properties. System of differential equations of the first order with respect to the amplitudes and the corresponding number of the phases in the first asymptotic averaged approximation are derived for different corresponding multi-frequency non-linear vibration regimes. These equations are analytically and numerically considered in the light of the stationary and no stationary resonant regimes, as well as the multi-non-linear free and forced mode mutual interactions, number of the resonant jumps.  相似文献

Theoretical and experimental non-linear vibrations of thin rectangular plates and curved panels subjected to out-of-plane harmonic excitation are investigated. Experiments have been performed on isotropic and laminated sandwich plates and panels with supported and free boundary conditions. A sophisticated measuring technique has been developed to characterize the non-linear behavior experimentally by using a Laser Doppler Vibrometer and a stepped-sine testing procedure. The theoretical approach is based on Donnell's non-linear shell theory (since the tested plates are very thin) but retaining in-plane inertia, taking into account the effect of geometric imperfections. A unified energy approach has been utilized to obtain the discretized non-linear equations of motion by using the linear natural modes of vibration. Moreover, a pseudo arc-length continuation and collocation scheme has been used to obtain the periodic solutions and perform bifurcation analysis. Comparisons between numerical simulations and the experiments show good qualitative and quantitative agreement. It is found that, in order to simulate large-amplitude vibrations, a damping value much larger than the linear modal damping should be considered. This indicates a very large and non-linear increase of damping with the increase of the excitation and vibration amplitude for plates and curved panels with different shape, boundary conditions and materials.  相似文献
