The interaction of multiple bubbles is a complex physical problem. A simplified case of multiple bubbles is studied theoretically with a bubble located at the center of a circular bubble cluster. All bubbles in the cluster are equally spaced and own the same initial conditions as the central bubble. The unified theory for bubble dynamics [35] is applied to model the interaction between the central bubble and the circular bubble cluster. To account for the effect of the propagation time of pressure waves, the emission source of the wave is obtained by interpolating the physical information on the time axis. An underwater explosion experiment with two bubbles of different scales is used to validate the theoretical model. The effect of the bubble cluster with a variation in scale on the pulsation characteristics of the central bubble is studied. 相似文献

Measurements of gas volume fraction, bubble velocity, chord length and bubble size distributions were performed on the research vessel Athena II operating in Saint Andrew Bay in the gulf coast near Panama City, FL. Double tipped sapphire optical local phase-detection probes were used to acquire indicator functions downstream of the breaking bow wave, behind the masker and at the stern. These indicator functions were also taken at different depths, operating speeds and headings respect to the waves. The data processing includes the computation of velocity of individual bubbles and chord lengths, resulting in chord length distributions. These chord length distributions are used to obtain bubble size distributions using a novel procedure described in detail herein. Uncertainty analysis is performed for gas volume fraction, average bubble velocity and chord length. The results indicate that air entrainment increases with ship speed and sailing against the waves at all positions. The bow wave exhibits unsteady breaking that creates bubble clouds, which were characterized and identified by signal processing. At the stern a very strong dependence of bubble size with depth was found, with evidence that small bubbles (smaller than 500 μm) are transported through the bottom of the hull and reach the transom. The roller present at the transom, the associated strong unsteadiness and bubble entrainment are well captured, as indicated by the stern results, showing the frothy nature of the upper layer. 相似文献

The dynamics of bubble formation from a submerged nozzle in a highly viscous liquid with relatively fast inflow gas velocity is studied numerically. The numerical simulations are carried out using a sharp interface coupled level set/volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method and the governing equations are solved through a hydrodynamic scheme with formal second-order accuracy. Numerical results agree well with experimental results and it is shown that the sharp interface CLSVOF method enables one to reproduce the bubble formation process for a wide range of inflow gas velocities. From numerical results, one can improve their understanding of the mechanisms regarding the dynamics of bubble formation. For example, it is found that for some sets of parameters that the bubble formation process reaches steady state after several bubbles are released from the nozzle. At steady state, bubbles uniformly rise freely in the viscous liquid. It is observed that the fluid flow around a formed bubble has a significant role in determining the overall dynamic process of bubble formation; e.g. the effect of the fluid flow from the preceding bubble can be seen on newly formed bubbles. 相似文献

A mechanistic model of bubble breakup and coalescence has been developed for a packed bed. Bubble breakup and coalescence models are developed for two coalescence and three breakup mechanisms by taking account of geometry effects and local flow conditions. The bubble size distribution estimated with the present bubble breakup and coalescence models are compared with the experimental data. Change of bubble size distributions along the axial direction is studied with the median bubble size. Median bubble size as a function of the axial location is estimated under two inlet flow conditions: (1) bubble breakup dominated flow and (2) bubble coalescence dominated flow. The predictions of the median bubble size with the present model result in the best among other existing bubble breakup and coalescence models. However, the prediction of the median bubble size for the bubble coalescence dominated flow is still significantly larger than the experimental data. Breakup and coalescence coefficients need to be adjusted in order to predict more accurate bubble size distributions and median bubble size for both flow conditions. For the bubble breakup dominated flow, the breakup and coalescence coefficients are found to be 0.35 and 0.4, respectively. For the bubble coalescence dominated flow, the breakup and coalescence coefficients are found to be 0.35 and 0.01, respectively. 相似文献

To investigate the effects of hydrophilic particles on slurry bubble flows in a bubble column, distributions of the local gas holdup and the bubble frequency are measured using an electric conductivity probe. Particles are made of silica and their diameter is 100 μm. The particle volumetric concentration CS is varied from 0 to 0.40. The measured data imply that the presence of particles promotes bubble coalescence. The film drainage time for two coalescing bubbles in a quasi two-dimensional bubble flow in a small vessel is also measured to quantitatively evaluate the particle effect on coalescence. A particle-effect multiplier is introduced into a coalescence efficiency model by taking into account the data of film drainage time and is implemented into a multi-fluid model. The main conclusions obtained are as follows: (1) the local gas holdup and bubble frequency in slurry bubble flows decrease with increasing the particle concentration, (2) the hydrophilic particles enhance bubble coalescence and the enhancement saturates at CS ≃ 0.45, (3) the particle effect on coalescence is well accounted for by introducing the particle-effect multiplier to the film drainage time, and (4) the multi-fluid model can give good predictions for the distribution of the local gas holdup in the slurry bubble column. 相似文献

Full scale bubbly flow experiments were performed on a 6 m flat bottom survey boat, measuring the void fraction, bubble velocity and size distributions as the bubbles naturally entrained at the bow of the boat interact with the boat’s boundary layer. Double-tip sapphire optical probes capable of measuring bubbles down to 50 μm in diameter were specifically designed and built for this experiment. The probes were positioned under the hull at the bow near the bubble entrainment region and at the stern at the exit of the bottom flat plate. Motorized positioners were used to vary the probe distance to the wall from 0 to 50 mm. The experiments were performed in fresh water (Coralville Lake, IA) and salt water (Panama City Beach, FL), at varying velocities with most data analysis performed at 10, 14 and 18 knots. The results indicate that the bubbles interact significantly with the boundary layer. At low velocity in fresh water, bubble accumulation under the hull and coalescence are evident by the presence of large bubbles at the stern. At high speeds bubble breakup dominates and very small bubbles are produced near the wall. It is also observed that salt water inhibits coalescence, even at low boat speeds. The void fraction increases with speed beyond 10 knots and peaks near the wall. Bubble velocities show slip with the wall at all speeds and exhibit large RMS fluctuations, increasing near the wall. 相似文献

Visualization of a confined accelerated bubble 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
High-speed photography was used to study the collapse of a confined two-dimensional, air cavity in water, subjected to a
propagating pressure disturbance. The 5–6 mm diameter cavity was confined in a rectangular duct. A sustained pressure disturbance
was created by an accelerating piston in contact with the water 240 mm away from the bubble. The pressure increased from 0.1
MPa to about 0.12 MPa with a rise time of the order of 2 ms. The pressure pulse was not reflected until its arrival at the
end of the duct, 320 mm from the piston. A microjet was produced at the proximal wall which penetrated the distal cavity wall,
thereby producing a pair of bubbles which was thought to be regions of intense vorticity. The features of such confined bubble
collapse were not found in previous investigations of unconfined bubble accelerations by weak pressure disturbances. Confinement
apparently intensified the effect of the disturbance significantly.

Measurements of the cross-sectional distribution of the gas fraction and bubble size distributions were conducted in a vertical pipe with an inner diameter of 51.2 mm and a length of about 3 m for air/water bubbly and slug flow regimes. The use of a wire-mesh sensor obtained a high resolution of the gas fraction data in space as well as in time. From this data, time averaged values for the two-dimensional gas fraction profiles were decomposed into a large number of bubble size classes. This allowed the extraction of the radial gas fraction profiles for a given range of bubble sizes as well as data for local bubble size distributions. The structure of the flow can be characterized by such data. The measurements were performed for up to 10 different inlet lengths and for about 100 combinations of gas and liquid volume flow rates. The data is very useful for the development and validation of meso-scale models to account for the forces acting on a bubble in a shear liquid flow and models for bubble coalescence and break-up. Such models are necessary for the validation of CFD codes for the simulation of bubbly flows. 相似文献

The formation of large gas bubbles at submerged orifices is investigated numerically with a two-dimensional, transient, finite difference model using a volume fraction specification to track the movement of the gas-liquid interface. Experimentally observed features of large-bubble formation such as the initial toroidal shape of the bubbles and the penetration of liquid down the pipe centreline are well predicted by the model. The expected oscillatory nature of growth is also observed. The bubble departure volume corresponds to experiments and to the model of Davidson and Schuler. At present the simulations do not extend far enough to investigate multiple-bubble ejection and important bubble-to-bubble interactions during growth and after departure. 相似文献

A microgravity experiment was conducted on the Space Shuttle Endeavor (STS-108) to observe sustained nucleate boiling of water. Subcooled water was boiled with a single strand and a braid of three 0.16 mm diameter and 80 mm long Nichrome resistive wires. A CCD video camera recorded the experiment while six thermistors recorded the temperature of the fluid at various distances from the heating element. This paper reports experimental results in observations, measurements, and data analysis. Bubble explosions were found to take place shortly after the onset of boiling for both the single and braid of wires. The explosion may produce a high heat transfer rate, as it generates a cloud of microbubbles. The number, size, and departure rate of the bubbles from the heater wire were measured and compared with theoretical models as a function of time. The temperature measurements revealed a complex temperature distribution in the fluid chamber due to bubbles ejected from the wire that carried thermal energy close to the temperature sensors. Drag forces on departing bubbles were calculated based on bubble movement and used to predict bubble propagation. Results from this experiment provided further understanding of nucleate boiling dynamics in microgravity for the eventual design and implementation of two-phase heat transfer systems in space applications. 相似文献
