We consider the parametrized family of equations tt ,u- xx u-au+u 2 2 u=O,x(0,L), with Dirichlet boundary conditions. This equation has finite-dimensional invariant manifolds of solutions. Studying the reduced equation to a four-dimensional manifold, we prove the existence of transversal homoclinic orbits to periodic solutions and of invariant sets with chaotic dynamics, provided that =2, 3, 4,.... For =1 we prove the existence of infinitely many first integrals pairwise in involution.  相似文献

We study semilinear elliptic equationsu + cu x =f(u,u) and 2 u + cu x =f(u,u, 2 u) in infinite cylinders (x,y) × n+1 using methods from dynamical systems theory. We construct invariant manifolds, which contain the set of bounded solutions and then study a singular limitc, where the equations change type from elliptic to parabolic. In particular we show that on the invariant manifolds, the elliptic equation generates a smooth dynamical system, which converges to the dynamical system generated by the parabolic limit equation. Our results imply the existence of fast traveling waves for equations like a viscous reactive 2d-Burgers equation or the Cahn-Hillard equation in infinite strips.  相似文献

The influence of ultrasoundabsorbing coatings on stability of hypersonic boundary layers is considered. Two types of coatings were used in experiments: feltmetal with a random porous microstructure and a sheet perforated by blind cylindrical microchannels. The experiments were performed in a wind tunnel at a Mach number M = 5.95 on sharp cones with a 7° apex halfangle. Evolution of natural disturbances and artificially induced wave packets in the boundary layer was studied with the help of hotwire anemometry. Spatial characteristics of artificial disturbances were obtained. It is demonstrated that such coatings exert a stabilizing effect on secondmode disturbances.  相似文献

The exact classical limits for the coefficient of variation c for the normal distribution are derived. The hand-calculating approximated classical limits for c having high accuracy are given to meet practical engineering needs. Using Odeh and Owen's computational method and Brent's algorithm, the tables for the r-upper exact classical limits of coefficient of variation for normal distribution are calculated for the different confidence coefficient , the sample size n=1 (1)30,40,60,120, the sample coefficient of variation =0.01(0.01)0.20. It is shown that if n8, 0.20, then the -upper exact classical limits cu for c are slightly higher than the exact fiducial limits cu,F for c. if n>8, 0.20, then cu–cu,F<5×10–6.  相似文献

The results of investigations of inviscid flow over inverted cones with nose consisting of a spherical segment were published for the first time in Soviet literature in [1–4]. In the present paper, a numerical solution to this problem is obtained using the improved algorithms of [5, 6], which have proved themselves well in problems of exterior flow over surfaces with positive angles of inclination to the oncoming flow. It is shown that the Mach number 2 M , equilibrium and nonequilibrium physicochemical transformations in air (H = 60 km, V = 7.4 km/sec, R0 = 1 m), and the angle of attack 0 40° influence the investigated pressure distributions. A comparison of the results of the calculations with drainage experiments for M = 6, = 0-25° confirms the extended region of applicability of the developed numerical methods. Flooding oil reservoirs with surfactant solutions can increase the amount of oil that can be recovered. Macroscopic modelling of the process requires relative permeabilities to be functions of saturation and capillary number. With only limited experimental data, relative permeabilities have usually been assumed to be linear functions of saturation at high capillary numbers. The experimental data is reviewed, some of which suggest that this assumption is not necessarily correct. The basis for the assumption is therefore reviewed and it is concluded that the linear model corresponds to microscopically segregated flow in the porous medium. Based on new but equally plausible complementary assumptions about the flow pattern, a mixed flow model is derived. These models are then shown to be limiting cases of a droplet model which represents the mixing scale within the porous medium and gives a physical basis for interpolating between the models. The models are based on physical concepts of flow in a porous medium and so the approach described here represents a significant improvement in the understanding of high capillary number flow. An unsteady viscous shock layer near a stagnation point is studied. The Navier-Stokes equations are analyzed in the limit 1, Re0 , df/dt = n-mF(t/m). The Reynolds number Re0 is defined in the paper by Eq. (1.3) (df/dt is the velocity of the body with respect to an inertial frame of reference moving with the original steady velocity –V't8, 2 = ( – 1)/( + 1)). Various flow regimes in the case 1, l, n max(2m, m + 1), m 0, where 2 = 1/Re0 are analyzed. Equations are derived that generalize the asymptotic analysis to the case of a viscous unsteady flow of gas in a thin three-dimensional shock layer. The problem of a thin unsteady viscous shock layer near the stagnation point of a body with two curvatures is formulated. Nonlinear boundaryvalue problems of plane bending of elastic arches under a uniformly distributed load are solved by the shooting method. The problems are formulated for a system of six firstorder ordinary differential equations with a finiterotation field independent of displacements. Simply supported and clamped cases are considered. Branching solutions of the boundaryvalue problems are obtained. For a simply supported arch, a set of solutions describes symmetric and nonsymmetric shapes of bending, which correspond to positive, negative, and zero loads. For a clamped arch, the set of solutions consists of symmetric shapes that occur only for positive loads.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that the maximum principle holds for quasilinear elliptic equations with quadratic growth under general structure conditions.Two typical particular cases of our results are the following. On one hand, we prove that the equation (1) {ie77-01} where {ie77-02} and {ie77-03} satisfies the maximum principle for solutions in H 1()L(), i.e., that two solutions u 1, u 2H1() L() of (1) such that u 1u2 on , satisfy u 1u2 in . This implies in particular the uniqueness of the solution of (1) in H 0 1 ()L().On the other hand, we prove that the equation (2) {ie77-04} where fH–1() and g(u)>0, g(0)=0, satisfies the maximum principle for solutions uH1() such that g(u)¦Du|{2L1(). Again this implies the uniqueness of the solution of (2) in the class uH 0 1 () with g(u)¦Du|{2L1().In both cases, the method of proof consists in making a certain change of function u=(v) in equation (1) or (2), and in proving that the transformed equation, which is of the form (3) {ie77-05}satisfies a certain structure condition, which using ((v1 -v 2)+)n for some n>0 as a test function, allows us to prove the maximum principle.  相似文献

Summary A revue of the possible errors affecting pressure measurements in internal combustion engines is presented. A new instrument based on the principle of the Balanced Pressure Indicator and signal multiplexing was developped. Its characteristics used both to obtain an accurate mean pressure diagram and to calibrate pressure transducers in working engines. The overall ability of obtaining meaningful pressure data was shown, even if it is clear that pressure measurements are more an art than a mere technique, given the complexity of the problems involved.
Sommario L'articolo presenta un'analisi dei possibili errori che possono distorcere la misurazione delle pressioni nella camera di combustione dei motori a combustione interna. Un nuovo strumento, basato sul principio dell'indicatore di pressione a bilanciamento di pressioni e del multiplex a modi di impulsi, è qui anche presentato ed utilizzato sia per ottenere un diagramma medio di pressioni di notevole accuratezza, che per calibrare trasduttori di pressione in condizioni di lavoro, cioè mentre il motore è in funzione. Ne risulta che è possibile ottenere diagrammi di pressione veramente rappresentativi delle condizioni di lavoro del motore, anche se è chiaro che, data la complessità dei problemi relativi a detta misurazione, misurare la pressione nei motori è più un'arte che pura tecnica.

Übersicht Die hier vorgestellten Ergebnisse sind Teil eines Forschungsprojektes mit dem Ziel, Marangonikonvektion unter Schwerelosigkeit mittels transienter Temperaturfelder zu beeinflussen. In dieser Veröffentlichung werden Lösungen für stationäre Strömungsfelder unter Vorgabe des Temperaturfeldes an der Oberfläche eines frei schwebenden Tropfens präsentiert. In der bestehenden Literatur wird zur Berechnung dieser Ergebnisse die freie Oberfläche des Tropfens als nicht deformierte Kugel vorgegeben. Im Vergleich dazu ergibt sich die Oberfläche in den hier vorgestellten Ergebnissen als Teil der Lösung. Das Strömungsfeld im Tropfen wird für verschiedene Reynolds-Zahlen 0Re5000 und Kapillarzahlen 10Ca1000 dargestellt.
Thermal Marangoni convection in drops under microgravity taking into account their deformation
Summary The investigations presented here are part of a microgravity project in which the reduction of thermal Marangoni convection by using a transient heat source is studied experimentally and theoretically. This publication shows the results of the theoretical considerations concerning steady state fluid motion in a drop under microgravity induced by a given temperature field at the surface of the drop. In contrast to the literature where the surface is assumed to be an underformed sphere the position of the surface is part of the solutions obtained. The solutions have been computed for Reynolds numbers 0Re5000 and capillary numbers 10Ca1000.

We study and obtain formulas for the asymptotic behavior as ¦x¦ of C 2 solutions of the semilinear equation u=f(x, u), x (*) where is the complement of some ball in n and f is continuous and nonlinear in u. If, for large x, f is nearly radially symmetric in x, we give conditions under which each positive solution of (*) is asymptotic, as ¦x¦, to some radially symmetric function. Our results can also be useful when f is only bounded above or below by a function which is radially symmetric in x or when the solution oscillates in sign. Examples when f has power-like growth or exponential growth in the variables x and u usefully illustrate our results.  相似文献

This paper discusses, in relation to the moiré method as used for the solution of plate bending and two-dimensional stress problems, two graphical techniques for the determination of the directions of principal moments and stresses.The so-called isoclinic method and the point method are described.The application of these new techniques on three different models—a circular disk under diametrically opposite loads and two different circular plates subjected to a lateral load—are fully discussed.The graphically determined principal-stress and moment directions show excellent agreement with analytically determined comparable values.Paper was presented at 1963 SESA Annual Meeting held in Boston, Mass., on November 6–8.  相似文献

The theory of semi-similar solutions is developed for and applied to the problem of three-dimensional laminar boundary layer flow. A number of specific examples are calculated. Particular attention is given to certain flows in which separation is approached and the nature of three-dimensional laminar boundary layer separation is inferred from the behavior of these solutions close to separation. Two types of separation are observed: singular separation characterized by the vanishing of the total shear along the line of separation and ordinary separation characterized by limiting streamlines which become parallel to the line of separation.  相似文献

Übersicht Die Fehlervorhersage eines einachsigen Fadenverbundwerkstoffes mit metallischer Matrix erfordert die Kenntnis des nichtlinearen elastisch-plastischen Verhaltens in mikroskopischer Abmessung. Als Fallstudie wurde ein spezieller Verbundwerkstoff mit einem FEM-Programm untersucht. Im plastischen Bereich wurde das klassische, v. Mises Potential' mit dem neuen Übergangsfließpotential unter Berücksichtigung der plastischen Volumendehnung verglichen. Unter transversaler Normalbelastung zeigte der Verbund deutliche Unterschiede in der Zunahme und der Ausdehnung der lokalen plastischen Zonen. Alle kritischen Verformungsstadien wurden von dem Übergangsfließpotential bei geringerer Belastung erreicht.
Numerical investigation of the elastic-plastic behaviour of a fibre-reinforced composite with a metallic matrix
Summary Failure prediction of unidirectional fibre-reinforced composite with a metallic matrix needs knowledge about the nonlinear elastic-plastic behaviour in a microscopic scale. A specific composite was investigated using a FEM-program as a case study. In the plastic range the classical v. Mises Potential was compared with the new Transition Flow Potential, taking into account the plastic volume dilatation. Subjected to transverse normal loading the composite showed evident differences in the increase and the spread of locally plastic regions. All critical deformation states were reached by the Transition Flow Potential at lower loading.

Linear and nonlinear viscoelastic properties were examined for a 50 wt% suspension of spherical silica particles (with radius of 40 nm) in a viscous medium, 2.27/1 (wt/wt) ethylene glycol/glycerol mixture. The effective volume fraction of the particles evaluated from zero-shear viscosities of the suspension and medium was 0.53. At a quiescent state the particles had a liquid-like, isotropic spatial distribution in the medium. Dynamic moduli G* obtained for small oscillatory strain (in the linear viscoelastic regime) exhibited a relaxation process that reflected the equilibrium Brownian motion of those particles. In the stress relaxation experiments, the linear relaxation modulus G(t) was obtained for small step strain (0.2) while the nonlinear relaxation modulus G(t, ) characterizing strong stress damping behavior was obtained for large (>0.2). G(t, ) obeyed the time-strain separability at long time scales, and the damping function h() (–G(t, )/G(t)) was determined. Steady flow measurements revealed shear-thinning of the steady state viscosity () for small shear rates (< –1; = linear viscoelastic relaxation time) and shear-thickening for larger (>–1). Corresponding changes were observed also for the viscosity growth and decay functions on start up and cessation of flow, + (t, ) and (t, ). In the shear-thinning regime, the and dependence of +(t,) and (t,) as well as the dependence of () were well described by a BKZ-type constitutive equation using the G(t) and h() data. On the other hand, this equation completely failed in describing the behavior in the shear-thickening regime. These applicabilities of the BKZ equation were utilized to discuss the shearthinning and shear-thickening mechanisms in relation to shear effects on the structure (spatial distribution) and motion of the suspended particles.Dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dale S. The molecular forces considered include inverse kth-power forces with k > 5 and angular cut-off.The main conclusions are the following. Here 1/p + 1/p = 1, x y = min (x, y), and C0, C1, 0 < 1, are positive constants related to the molecular forces under consideration; = (k – 5)/ (k – 1) for kth-power forces.Some weaker conclusions follow when 1 < p 3/ (1 + ).In the proofs some previously known L-estimates are extended. Zusammenfassung In diesem Bericht wird die Kraftübertragung zwischen zwei unbegrenzt ausgedehnten und durch eineMaxwell-Flüssigkeit gekoppelten Platten bei beliebigem Zeitgesetz der Bewegung der oberen auf die elastisch aufgehängte untere Platte unter Einbeziehung der Trägheit von unterer Platte undMaxwell-Flüssigkeit berechnet.Diese Fragestellung führt mathematisch auf ein Randwertproblem, dessen eine Randbedingung die Form 3 u/x 2 y + 1 u + 1 u/y – 2 2 u/xy = 0 fürx = 0 annimmt, also gemischte Ableitungen nach 2 unabhängigen Veränderlichen enthält.Es wird gezeigt, daß sich die Lösung als unendliche Reihe darstellen läßt, deren 1. Glied aus abklingenden Exponentialfunktionen, alle weiteren hingegen aus gedämpften Schwingungen bestehen.Als spezielle Zeitgesetze für die obere Platte werden die impulsförmige Erregung, die zeitproportionale und die periodische Bewegung untersucht.Es wird abgeleitet, wie sich die Kenngrößen undG (Viskosität und Schubmodul) aus Eigenfrequenz und Dämpfung bzw. aus den beiden Exponenten dere-Funktionen in den beiden ersten Fällen berechnen lassen. Bei periodischer Beanspruchung werden undG aus der Resonanzfrequenz und der Halbwertbreite bzw. dem Phasenwinkel ermittelt.Abschließend wird gezeigt, daß und wie ein Rotationsviskosimeter auf den behandelten Fall ebener Platten zurückgeführt werden kann.
Summary In this report the force transmission between two infinitely extended plates coupled by aMaxwell-Fluid is calculated. In this calculation the inertia of the fluid and the influence of the elastically suspended lower plate is included, while the upper plate can perform any time-dependent movement.Mathematically this question leads to a boundery value problem; one boundery condition has the form 3 u/ 2 y + 1 u + 1 u/y – 2 2 u/xy = 0 (x = 0) ( 1, 2, = constant), that means it contains mixed differential-quotients of two independent variables.The solution is demonstrated as an infinite series, the form of the first term is of two negative exponential functions, all the other terms are damped oscillations.The excitation from a single pulse, the uniform timeproportional and the periodic movement as timedependent laws for the upper plate are analysed.The values of andG (viscosity and shear modulus) are derived from eigenfrequency and damping-constant respectively from the values of the two exponentials. In the periodic case andG are calculated from the resonance frequency and halfwidth or phase-angle respectively.Finally the conditions of the rotation-viscometer are reduced to the case of parallel-plate-viscometer.
