An analysis is performed to present a new self-similar solution of unsteady mixed convection boundary layer flow in the forward stagnation point region of a rotating sphere where the free stream velocity and the angular velocity of the rotating sphere vary continuously with time. It is shown that a self-similar solution is possible when the free stream velocity varies inversely with time. Both constant wall temperature and constant heat flux conditions have been considered in the present study. The system of ordinary differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using an implicit finite difference scheme in combination with a quasilinearization technique. It is observed that the surface shear stresses and the surface heat transfer parameters increase with the acceleration and rotation parameters. For a certain value of the acceleration parameter, the surface shear stress in x-direction vanishes and due to further reduction in the value of the acceleration parameter, reverse flow occurs in the x–component of the velocity profiles. The effect of buoyancy parameter is to increase the surface heat transfer rate for buoyancy assisting flow and to decrease it for buoyancy opposing flow. For a fixed buoyancy force, heating by constant heat flux yields a higher value of surface heat transfer rate than heating by constant wall temperature.  相似文献

A magnetic hydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convective heat transfer problem of a second-grade viscoelastic fluid past a wedge with porous suction or injection has been studied. Governing equations include continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation of the fluid. It has been analyzed by a combination of a series expansion method, the similarity transformation and a second-order accurate finite-difference method. Solutions of wedge flow on the wedge surface have been obtained by a generalized Falkner-Skan flow derivation. Some important parameters have been discussed by this study, which include the Prandtl number (Pr), the elastic number (E), the free convection parameter (G) and the magnetic parameter (M), the porous suction and injection parameter (C) and the wedge shape factor (β). Results indicated that elastic effect (E) in the flow could increase the local heat transfer coefficient and enhance the heat transfer of a wedge. In addition, similar to the results from Newtonian fluid flow and conduction analysis of a wedge, better heat transfer is obtained with a larger G and Pr.  相似文献

The mixed convection flow due to a line thermal source embedded at the leading edge of an adiabatic vertical plane surface immersed in a saturated porous medium has been studied. Both weakly and strongly buoyant plume regimes have been considered. The cases of buoyancy assisting and buoyancy opposing flow conditions have been incorporated in the analysis. The results are presented for the entire range of buoyancy parameter from the pure forced convection (ξ=0) to the pure free convection (ξ → ∞@#@) regimes. For buoyancy-assisting flow, the wall temperature and the velocity at the wall increase as the plume strength increases. However, they all decrease as the free-stream velocity increases. For buoyancyopposing flow, the temperature at the wall increases as the strength of the plume increases but velocity at the wall decreases.  相似文献

Numerical solution has been obtained for the development of the flow over a cone which is impulsively set into motion. Initially the flow is described by the solution of Rayleigh and then it tends to the ultimate steady state solution of Falkner-Skan equation. But due to the leading edge effect the semi-similar equation describing the transient flow changes its character after certain time and the solution depends also on the ultimate steady state solution of the Falkner-Skan equation. A second-order upwind difference scheme has been used for discretisation. The temperature distribution and heat transfer has also been obtained for constant wall temperature as well as for constant heat flux at the wall. With the increase ofm, Falkner-Skan parameter, the magnitude of skin friction and wall heat transfer increases. It has been found that form≥?0.275 flow separation does not occur.  相似文献

The unsteady laminar incompressible boundary layer flow due to a two-dimensional slot jet on a flat plate at an angle of attack has been studied. The unsteadiness in the flow field is due to the free stream velocity distribution or wall temperature (concentration) which varies with time. The governing partial differential equations in primitive variables have been solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme in combination with the quasilinearization technique. The effect of the variation of the free stream velocity distribution with time is found to be more pronounced on the skin friction than on the heat or mass transfer. The Prandtl number and the variation of the wall temperature with time strongly affect the heat transfer. Similarly, the Schmidt number and the variation of the concentration at the wall with time strongly affect the mass transfer. Beyond a certain critical value of the viscous dissipation parameter, the plate gets heated instead of being cooled.  相似文献

A free convertion flow of an optically dense viscous incompressible fluid along a vertical thin circular cylinder has been studied with effect of radiation when the surface temperature is uniform. With appropriate transformations, the boundary layer equations governing the flow are reduced to local nonsimilarity equations. Solutions of the governing equations are obtained employing the implicit finite difference methods together with Keller box scheme as well the local nonsimilarity method with second order truncation for all ξ (nondimensional transverse curvature parameter) in the interval [0,10] and are expressed in terms of local Nusselt number for a range of values of the pertinent parameters. Effects of pertinent parameters, such as, the radiation parameter, R d , the surface temperature parameter, θ w , taking Prandtl number, Pr, equals 0.7 on the velocity and temperature field are also presented graphically. From the solution it is seen that increase of R d , or θ w leads to increase in the local rate of heat transfer coefficients. Results obtained by both the methods are obtained in excellent agreement between each other upto ξ = 10.  相似文献

In this paper, the interaction of radiation and forced convection in simultaneously developing laminar flow through semicircular and right triangular ducts with isothermal non-black wall is investigated. The three dimensional momentum and energy equations are discretized by the method of lines and solved numerically by the marching method. The method of momentum is employed to consider the radiation contribution which models the radiation in the partial differential equation, instead of the partial integrodifferential equation. The effects of three major parameters, radiation-conduction parameter,N, optical thickness, τ b , and wall emissivity, ε w , in the entry region of these irregular geometry ducts are discussed. The numerical results in terms of the variation of the bulk temperature and the mean Nusselt number indicate that the thermal radiation not only enhances the heat transfer rate, but also changes the characteristics of the convective heat transfer. Furthermore, the results compare very well with the available data published in the open literature for the pure convective case.  相似文献

The effect of thermal radiation on the non-Darcy mixed convection flow over a non-isothermal horizontal surface immersed in a saturated porous medium has been studied. The wall temperature is assumed to have a power-law variation with the distance measured from the leading edge of the plate. The non-linear coupled parabolic partial differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme. For some particular cases, the self-similar solution has also been obtained. The heat transfer is found to be strongly influenced by the radiative flux number, buoyancy parameter, variation of wall temperature, non-Darcy parameter and the nature of the free stream velocity.  相似文献

MHD mixed free-forced heat and mass convective steady incompressible laminar boundary layer flow of a gray optically thick electrically conducting viscous fluid past a semi-infinite inclined plate for high temperature and concentration differences is studied. A uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plate. The density of the fluid is assumed to reduce exponentially with temperature and concentration. The usual Boussinesq approximation is neglected due to the high temperature and concentration differences between the plate and the ambient fluid. The Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The boundary layer equations governing the flow are reduced to ordinary differential equations, which are numerically solved by applying an efficient technique. The effects of the density/temperature parameter n, the density/concentration parameter m, the local magnetic parameter Mx and the radiation parameter R are examined on the velocity, temperature and concentration distributions as well as the coefficients of skin-friction, heat flux and mass flux.  相似文献

A model is developed for the study of mixed- convection film condensation from downward flowing vapors onto a sphere with variable wall temperature. The model combined natural convection dominated and forced convection dominated film condensation, concerning effects of pressure gradient (P), interfacial vapor shear drag and non-uniform wall temperature variation (A), has been investigated and solved numerically. The effect of pressure gradient on the dimensionless mean heat transfer, NuˉRe−1/2 will remain almost uniform with increasing P until for various corresponding available values of F. Meanwhile, the dimensionless mean heat transfer, NuˉRe−1/2 is increasing significantly with F for its corresponding available values of P. Although the non-uniform wall temperature variation has an appreciable influence on the local film flow and heat transfer; however, the dependence of mean heat transfer on A can be almost negligible. An analysis is carried out to study the momentum, mass and heat transfer characteristics on the flow of visco-elastic fluid (Walter's liquid-B model) past a stretching sheet in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. In heat transfer, two cases are considered:
1.
The sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST case); and
2.
The sheet with prescribed wall heat flux (PHF case).
The solution of equations of momentum, mass and heat transfer are obtained analytically. Emphasis has been laid to study the effects of various parameters like magnetic parameter Mn, visco-elastic parameter k1, Schmidt number Sc, and Prandtl number Pr on flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics.  相似文献

The problem of Marangoni convection boundary layer flow that can be formed along the interface of two immiscible fluids when the wall is permeable, where there is suction or injection effect, is considered. Similarity equations are obtained through the application of similarity transformation techniques. The effects of suction/injection and radiation parameters on the heat transfer characteristics are numerically studied using the shooting method for a fixed value of the Prandtl number (Pr=0.7). Numerical results are obtained for the surface temperature gradient or the heat transfer rate as well as the temperature profiles for some values of the governing parameters. Comparisons with known results from the open literature show very good agreements. The results indicate that the heat transfer rate at the surface decreases as the radiation parameter increases. Further, results show that multiple (dual) solutions exist for a certain range of the governing parameters.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to investigate diffusion-thermo (Dufour effect) and radiation effects on unsteady MHD free convection flow past an impulsively started infinite vertical plate with variable temperature and uniform mass diffusion in the presence of transverse applied magnetic field through porous medium. At time t > 0, the plate is given an impulsive motion with constant velocity u 0 in the vertical upward direction against to the gravitational field. At the same time, the plate temperature is raised linearly with time t and the level of concentration near the plate is raised to ${{C}_{\rm w}^{\prime}}$ . A magnetic field of uniform strength B 0 is applied normal to the direction to the flow. The dimensionless governing equations are solved in closed form by Laplace transform technique. The effect of flow parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration, the rate of heat transfer and the rate of mass transfer are shown through graphs.  相似文献

A theoretical solution is presented for the convective heat transfer of Giesekus viscoelastic fluid in pipes and channels, under fully developed thermal and hydrodynamic flow conditions, for an imposed constant heat flux at the wall. The fluid properties are taken as constant and axial conduction is negligible. The effect of Weissenberg number (We), mobility parameter (α) and Brinkman number (Br) on the temperature profile and Nusselt number are investigated. The results emphasize the significant effect of viscous dissipation and fluid elasticity on the Nusselt number in all circumstances. For wall cooling and the Brinkman number exceeds a critical value (Br 1), the heat generated by viscous dissipation overcomes the heat removed at the wall and fluid heats up longitudinally. Fluid elasticity shifts this critical Brinkman number to higher values.  相似文献

The laminar fully developed nanofluid flow and heat transfer in a horizonal channel are investigated. Highly accurate solutions for the temperature and nanoparticle concentration distributions are obtained. The effects of the Brownian motion parameter N b, the thermophoresis parameter N t, and the Lewis number Le on the temperature and nanoparticle concentration distributions are discussed. The current analysis shows that the nanoparticles can improve the heat transfer characteristics significantly for this flow problem.  相似文献

The mixed convection flow over a continuous moving vertical slender cylinder under the combined buoyancy effect of thermal and mass diffusion has been studied. Both uniform wall temperature (concentration) and uniform heat (mass) flux cases are included in the analysis. The problem is formulated in such a manner that when the ratio λ(= u w/(u w + u ), where u w and u are the wall and free stream velocities, is zero, the problem reduces to the flow over a stationary cylinder, and when λ = 1 it reduces to the flow over a moving cylinder in an ambient fluid. The partial differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme. We have also obtained the solution using a perturbation technique with Shanks transformation. This transformation has been used to increase the range of the validity of the solution. For some particular cases closed form solutions are obtained. The surface skin friction, heat transfer and mass transfer increase with the buoyancy forces. The buoyancy forces cause considerable overshoot in the velocity profiles. The Prandtl number and the Schmidt number strongly affect the surface heat transfer and the mass transfer, respectively. The surface skin friction decreases as the relative velocity between the surface and free stream decreases. Received on 17 May 1999  相似文献

The coupled streamfuction–temperature equations governing the Darcian flow and convection process in a fluid-saturated porous enclosure with an isothermal sinusoidal bottom sun face, has been numerically analyzed using a finite element method (FEM). No restrictions have been imposed on the geometrical non-linearity arising from the parameters like wave amplitude (a), number of waves per unit length (N), wave phase (Φ), aspect ratio (A) and also on the flow driving parameter Rayleigh number (Ra). The numerical simulations for varying values of Ra bring about interesting flow features, like the transformation of a unicellular flow to a multicellular flow. Both with increasing amplitude and increasing number of waves per unit length, owing to the shift in the separation and reattachment points, a row–column pattern of multicellular flow transforms to a simple row of multicellular flow. A cycle of n celluar and n+1 cellular flows, with the flow in adjacent cells in the opposite direction, periodically manifest with phase varying between 0 and 360°. The global heat transfer into the system has been found to decrease with increasing amplitude and increasing number of waves per unit length. Only marginal changes in the global heat flux are observed, either with increasing Ra or varying Φ. Effectively, sinusoidal bottom surface undulations of the isothermal wall of a porous enclosure reduces the heat transfer into the system. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The linear stability of the double-diffusive convection in a horizontal porous layer is studied considering the upper boundary to be open. A horizontal temperature gradient is applied along the upper boundary. It is assumed that the viscous dissipation and Soret effect are significant in the medium. The governing parameters are horizontal Rayleigh number (\(Ra_\mathrm{H}\)), solutal Rayleigh number (\(Ra_\mathrm{S}\)), Lewis number (Le), Gebhart number (Ge) and Soret parameter (Sr). The Rayleigh number (Ra) corresponding to the applied heat flux at the bottom boundary is considered as the eigenvalue. The influence of the solutal gradient caused due to the thermal diffusion on the double-diffusive instability is investigated by varying the Soret parameter. A horizontal basic flow is induced by the applied horizontal temperature gradient. The stability of this basic flow is analyzed by calculating the critical Rayleigh number (\(Ra_\mathrm{cr}\)) using the Runge–Kutta scheme accompanied by the Shooting method. The longitudinal rolls are more unstable except for some special cases. The Soret parameter has a significant effect on the stability of the flow when the upper boundary is at constant pressure. The critical Rayleigh number is decreasing in the presence of viscous dissipation except for some positive values of the Soret parameter. How a change in Soret parameter is attributing to the convective rolls is presented.  相似文献

The effect of lateral mass flux on mixed convection heat and mass transfer in a saturated porous medium adjacent to an inclined permeable surface is analyzed. A similarity solution is obtained when surface temperature and concentration, free stream velocity and injection/suction velocity of fluid are prescribed as power functions of distance from the leading edge. The cases when the flow and buoyancy forces are in the same and opposite directions are discussed both for aiding and opposing buoyancy effects. The governing parameters are the mixed convection parameter Gr, the Lewis number Le, the buoyancy ratio N, the lateral mass flux parameter f w, representing the effects of injection or withdrawal of fluid at the wall, and λ which specifies three cases of the inclined plate. The interactive effect of these parameters on heat and mass transfer rates are presented. It is observed that the diffusion ratio (Le) has a more pronounced effect on concentration field than on flow and temperature fields. It is found that the rates of heat and mass transfer increase with suction and decrease with injection of the fluid. Received on 31 August 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

The Super-Critical Water-Cooled Reactor (SCWR) has been chosen by the Generation IV International Forum as one of the candidates for the next generation nuclear reactors. Heat transfer to water from a fuel assembly may deteriorate at certain supercritical pressure flow conditions and its estimation at degraded conditions as well as in normal conditions is very important to the design of a safe and reliable reactor core. Extensive experiments on a heat transfer to a vertically upward flowing CO2 at a supercritical pressure in tubes and an annular channel have been performed. The geometries of the test sections include tubes of an internal diameter (ID) of 4.4 and 9.0 mm and an annular channel (8 × 10 mm). The heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and Nusselt numbers were derived from the inner wall temperature converted by using the outer wall temperature measured by adhesive K-type thermocouples and a direct (tube) or indirect (annular channel) electric heating power. From the test results, a correlation, which covers both a deteriorated and a normal heat transfer regime, was developed. The developed correlation takes different forms in each interval divided by the value of parameter Bu. The parameter Bu (referred to as Bu hereafter), a function of the Grashof number, the Reynolds number and the Prandtl number, was introduced since it is known to be a controlling factor for the occurrence of a heat transfer deterioration due to a buoyancy effect. The developed correlation predicted the HTCs for water and HCFC-22 fairly well.  相似文献
