This paper investigates the unsteady stagnation point flow and heat transfer of magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) fluids over a moving permeable flat surface. The unsteady Navier-Stokes(NS) equations are transformed into a similarity nonlinear ordinary differential equation, and a closed form solution is obtained for the unsteadiness parameter of 2. The boundary layer energy equation is transformed into a similarity equation, and is solved for a constant wall temperature and a time-dependent uniform wall heat flux case. The solution domain, velocity, and temperature profiles are calculated for different combinations of parameters including the Prandtl number, mass transfer parameter, wall moving parameter, and magnetic parameter. Two solution branches are obtained for certain combinations of the controlling parameters, and a stability analysis demonstrates that the lower solution branch is not stable. The present solutions provide an exact solution to the entire unsteady MHD NS equations, which can be used for validating the numerical code of computational fluid dynamics.  相似文献

In this paper we present a mathematical analysis of heat and mass transfer phenomena in a visco–elastic fluid flow over an accelerating stretching sheet in the presence of heat source/sink, viscous dissipation and suction/blowing. Similarity transformations are used to convert highly non-linear partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. Several closed form analytical solutions for non-dimensional temperature, concentration, heat flux, mass flux profiles are obtained in the form of confluent hypergeometric (Kummer's) functions for two different cases of the boundary conditions, namely, (i) wall with prescribed second order power law temperature and second order power law concentration (PST), and (ii) wall with prescribed second order power law heat flux and second order power law mass flux (PHF). The effect of various physical parameters like visco–elasticity, Eckert number, Prandtl number, heat source/sink, Schmidt number and suction/blowing parameter on temperature and concentration profiles are analysed. The effects of all these parameters on wall temperature gradient and wall concentration gradient are also discussed. Received on 23 March 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

An analysis is performed for flow and heat transfer of a steady laminar boundary layer flow of an electrically conducting fluid of second grade in a porous medium subject to a transverse uniform magnetic field past a semi-infinite stretching sheet with power-law surface temperature or power-law surface heat flux. The effects of viscous dissipation, internal heat generation of absorption and work done due to deformation are considered in the energy equation. The variations of surface temperature gradient for the prescribed surface temperature case (PST) and surface temperature for the prescribed heat flux case (PHF) with various parameters are tabulated. The asymptotic expansions of the solutions for large Prandtl number are also given for the two heating conditions. It is shown that, when the Eckert number is large enough, the heat flow may transfer from the fluid to the wall rather than from the wall to the fluid when Eckert number is small. A physical explanation is given for this phenomenon.  相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of hydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid over an unsteady stretching surface. The study considers the effects of frictional heating(viscous dissipation) and internal heat generation or absorption. The basic equations governing the flow and heat transfer are reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations by applying suitable similarity transformations. The transformed equations are numerically solved by the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg-45 order method. An analysis is carried out for two different cases of heating processes, namely, variable wall temperature(VWT) and variable heat flux(VHF).The effects of various physical parameters such as the magnetic parameter, the fluid-particle interaction parameter, the unsteady parameter, the Prandtl number, the Eckert number, the number density of dust particles, and the heat source/sink parameter on velocity and temperature profiles are shown in several plots. The effects of the wall temperature gradient function and the wall temperature function are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

An analysis is performed to present a new self-similar solution of unsteady mixed convection boundary layer flow in the forward stagnation point region of a rotating sphere where the free stream velocity and the angular velocity of the rotating sphere vary continuously with time. It is shown that a self-similar solution is possible when the free stream velocity varies inversely with time. Both constant wall temperature and constant heat flux conditions have been considered in the present study. The system of ordinary differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using an implicit finite difference scheme in combination with a quasilinearization technique. It is observed that the surface shear stresses and the surface heat transfer parameters increase with the acceleration and rotation parameters. For a certain value of the acceleration parameter, the surface shear stress in x-direction vanishes and due to further reduction in the value of the acceleration parameter, reverse flow occurs in the x–component of the velocity profiles. The effect of buoyancy parameter is to increase the surface heat transfer rate for buoyancy assisting flow and to decrease it for buoyancy opposing flow. For a fixed buoyancy force, heating by constant heat flux yields a higher value of surface heat transfer rate than heating by constant wall temperature.  相似文献

The effect of lateral mass flux on mixed convection heat and mass transfer in a saturated porous medium adjacent to an inclined permeable surface is analyzed. A similarity solution is obtained when surface temperature and concentration, free stream velocity and injection/suction velocity of fluid are prescribed as power functions of distance from the leading edge. The cases when the flow and buoyancy forces are in the same and opposite directions are discussed both for aiding and opposing buoyancy effects. The governing parameters are the mixed convection parameter Gr, the Lewis number Le, the buoyancy ratio N, the lateral mass flux parameter f w, representing the effects of injection or withdrawal of fluid at the wall, and λ which specifies three cases of the inclined plate. The interactive effect of these parameters on heat and mass transfer rates are presented. It is observed that the diffusion ratio (Le) has a more pronounced effect on concentration field than on flow and temperature fields. It is found that the rates of heat and mass transfer increase with suction and decrease with injection of the fluid. Received on 31 August 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the steady momentum and heat transfer of a viscous fluid flow over a stretching/shrinking sheet. Exact solutions are presented for the Navier-Stokes equations. The new solutions provide a more general formulation including the linearly stretching and shrinking wall problems as well as the asymptotic suction velocity profiles over a moving plate. Interesting non-linear phenomena are observed in the current results including both exponentially decaying solution and algebraically decaying solution, multiple solutions with infinite number of solutions for the flow field, and velocity overshoot. The energy equation ignoring viscous dissipation is solved exactly and the effects of the mass transfer parameter, the Prandtl number, and the wall stretching/shrinking strength on the temperature profiles and wall heat flux are also presented and discussed. The exact solution of this general flow configuration is a rare case for the Navier-Stokes equation.  相似文献

This study explores the effects of heat transfer on the Williamson fluid over a porous exponentially stretching surface. The boundary layer equations of the Williamson fluid model for two dimensional flow with heat transfer are presented. Two cases of heat transfer are considered, i.e., the prescribed exponential order surface temperature (PEST) case and the prescribed exponential order heat flux (PEHF) case. The highly nonlinear partial differential equations are simplified with suitable similar and non-similar variables, and finally are solved analytically with the help of the optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM). The optimal convergence control parameters are obtained, and the physical fea- tures of the flow parameters are analyzed through graphs and tables. The skin friction and wall temperature gradient are calculated.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the momentum, mass and heat transfer characteristics on the flow of visco-elastic fluid (Walter's liquid-B model) past a stretching sheet in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. In heat transfer, two cases are considered:
1.
The sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST case); and
2.
The sheet with prescribed wall heat flux (PHF case).
The solution of equations of momentum, mass and heat transfer are obtained analytically. Emphasis has been laid to study the effects of various parameters like magnetic parameter Mn, visco-elastic parameter k1, Schmidt number Sc, and Prandtl number Pr on flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics.  相似文献

The characteristics of unsteady entrance heat transfer in the combined entrance heat transfer region of laminar pipe flows resulting from time-varying inlet temperature are numerically investigated. Three non-dimensional parameters,Nu 0, a*, andf are identified in the study. Also, their effects on the non-dimensional duct wall temperature, fluid bulk temperature, and duct wall heat flux are discussed in great detail. Comparisons are made with the zero thermal capacity wall solution.  相似文献

A numerical treatment for axisymmetric flow and heat transfer due to a stretching cylinder under the influence of a uniform magnetic field and prescribed surface heat flux is presented. Numerical results are obtained for dimensionless velocity, temperature, skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number for several values of the suction/injection, magnetic and curvature parameters as well as the Prandtl number. The present study reveals that the controlling parameters have strong effects on the physical quantities of interest. It is seen that the magnetic field enhances the dimensionless temperature inside the thermal boundary layer, whereas it reduces the dimensionless velocity inside the hydrodynamic boundary layer. Heat transfer rate reduces, while the skin friction coefficient increases with magnetic field.  相似文献

We present an exact analytical representation of the unsteady thermo-fluid dynamic field arising in a two-dimensional channel with parallel walls for a fluid with constant properties. We assume that the axial pressure gradient is an arbitrary function of time that can be expanded in Taylor series; a particular case is the impulsive motion generated by a sudden jump to a constant value; for large time values the flow reaches the well-known steady Poiseuille solution. As boundary conditions for the dynamic field we consider fixed and moving walls (unsteady Couette flow). The assigned temperature on the walls can be an arbitrary function of time. We also consider the coupling of the energy and momentum equations (i.e. Eckert number different from zero). The solution is obtained by series with simple expressions of the coefficients in terms of the error functions. The fundamental physical parameters, such as shear stress, mass flow and heat flux at the wall are obtained in explicit analytical form and discussed by means of their diagrams.  相似文献

In this paper, combined forced and free convection is studied in a vertical rectangular duct with a prescribed uniform wall heat flux (H2 boundary condition). A different heat flux value for each plane wall is considered; the condition of a uniform wall heat flux throughout the duct results as a special case. The local momentum and energy balance equations are written in a dimensionless form and solved numerically, by means of a Galerkin finite element method. The numerical solution gives the dimensionless velocity and temperature distributions, together with the values of the Fanning friction factor, of the Nusselt number, of the momentum flux correction factor and of the kinetic energy correction factor. These dimensionless parameters are reported as functions of the aspect ratio and of the ratio between the Grashof number, Gr, and the Reynolds number, Re. The threshold values of Gr/Re for the onset of flow reversal are evaluated.  相似文献

In this paper, fully developed convective heat transfer of viscoelastic flow in a curved pipe under the constant heat flux at the wall is investigated analytically using a perturbation method. Here, the curvature ratio is used as the perturbation parameter and the Oldroyd-B model is applied as the constitutive equation. In the previous studies, the Dirichlet boundary condition for the temperature at the wall has been used to simplify the solution, but here exactly the non-homogenous Neumann boundary condition is considered to solve the problem. Based on this solution, the non-axisymmetric temperature distribution of Dean flow is obtained analytically and the effect of flow parameters on the flow field is investigated in detail. The current analytical results indicate that increasing the Weissenberg number, viscosity ratio, curvature ratio, and Prandtl number lead to the increase of the heat transfer in the Oldroyd-B fluid flow.  相似文献

The present paper deals with the analysis of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid over a stretching sheet with the effect of non-uniform heat source/sink. Here we consider two types of heating processes namely (i) prescribed surface temperature and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux. The momentum and thermal boundary layer equations of motion are solved numerically using Runge Kutta Fehlberg fourth–fifth order method (RKF45 Method). The effects of fluid particle interaction parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, Number of dust particle and non-uniform heat generation/absorption parameter on temperature distribution are analyzed and also the effect of wall temperature gradient function and wall temperature function are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

In this note, heat transfer over a stretching sheet with mass transfer in a porous medium is revisited. Analytical solutions are presented for two cases including a prescribed power-law wall temperature case and a prescribed power-law wall heat flux case. The solutions are expressed by the Kummer’s function. Closed-form solutions are found and presented for some special parameters. The solutions might offer more insights of the heat transfer characteristics compared with the numerical solutions.  相似文献

Summary An analysis is presented concerning unsteady heat transfer from a rotating disk to a low Prandtl number fluid under the condition of a step change in surface temperature with time. Entire time history results for the surface heat flux are given for Prandtl numbers up to 0.04, and these results are obtained by means of a first-order perturbation about the solution for zero Prandtl number. Steady-state heat transfer predicted by this method agrees almost precisely with exact values.  相似文献

A numerical solution, for incompressible, steady-state, laminar flow heat transfer in the combined entrance region of a circular tube is presented for the case of constant wall heat flux and constant wall temperature. The development of velocity profile is obtained from Sparrow's entrance region solution. This velocity distribution is used in solving the energy equation numerically to obtain temperature profiles. Variation of the heat transfer coefficient for these two different boundary conditions for the early stages of boundary layer formation on the pipe wall is obtained. Local Nusselt numbers are calculated and the results are compared with those given byUlrichson andSchmitz. The effect of the thermal boundary conditions is studied by comparing the uniform wall heat flux results with uniform wall temperature.  相似文献

Influence of radiation on unsteady hydromagnetic natural convection transient flow near an impulsively moving vertical flat plate with ramped wall temperature in a porous medium is studied. Exact solution of momentum and energy equations, under Boussinesq approximation, is obtained in closed form by Laplace transform technique. The variations in fluid velocity and temperature are shown graphically whereas numerical values of skin friction and Nusselt number are presented in tabular form.  相似文献
