The steady flow and heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid past a permeable stretching/shrinking wedge with magnetic field and radiation effects are studied. The governing equations of the hybrid nanofluid are converted to the similarity equations by techniques of the similarity transformation. The bvp4c function that is available in MATLAB software is utilized for solving the similarity equations numerically. The numerical results are obtained for selected different values of parameters. The results discover that two solutions exist, up to a certain value of the stretching/shrinking and suction strengths. The critical value in which the solution is in existence decreases as nanoparticle volume fractions for copper and wedge angle parameter increase. It is also found that the hybrid nanofluid enhances the heat transfer rate compared with the regular nanofluid. The reduction of the heat transfer rate is observed with the increase in radiation parameter. The temporal stability analysis is performed to analyze the stability of the dual solutions, and it is revealed that only one of them is stable and physically reliable.  相似文献

We consider the combined effect of the magnetic field and heat transfer inside a square cavity containing a hybrid nanofluid(Cu-Al_2O_3-water). The upper and bottom walls of the cavity have a wavy shape. The temperature of the vertical walls is lower, the third part in the middle of the bottom wall is kept at a constant higher temperature, and the remaining parts of the bottom wall and the upper wall are thermally insulated. The magnetic field is applied under the angle γ, an opposite clockwise direction. For the numerical simulation, the finite element technique is employed. The ranges of the characteristics are as follows: the Rayleigh number(10~3≤Ra≤10~5), the Hartmann number(0≤Ha≤100), the nanoparticle hybrid concentration(?_(Al_2O_3),?_(Cu) = 0, 0.025, 0.05),the magnetic field orientation(0≤γ≤2π), and the Prandtl number P_r, the amplitude of wavy cavity A, and the number of waviness n are fixed at P_r = 7, A = 0.1, and n = 3, respectively. The comparison with a reported finding in the open literature is done, and the data are observed to be in very good agreement. The effects of the governing parameters on the energy transport and fluid flow parameters are studied. The results prove that the increment of the magnetic influence determines the decrease of the energy transference because the conduction motion dominates the fluid movement. When the Rayleigh number is raised, the Nusselt number is increased, too. For moderate Rayleigh numbers, the maximum ratio of the heat transfer takes place for the hybrid nanofluid and then the Cu-nanofluid, followed by the Al_2O_3-nanofluid. The nature of motion and energy transport parameters has been scrutinized.  相似文献

The present study is devoted to numerical analysis of natural convective heat transfer and fluid flow of alumina-water nanofluid in an inclined wavy-walled cavity under the effect of non-uniform heating. A single-phase nanofluid model with experimental correlations for the nanofluid viscosity and thermal conductivity has been included in the mathematical model. The considered governing equations formulated in dimensionless stream function, vorticity, and temperature have been solved by the finite difference method. The cavity inclination angle and irregular walls (wavy and undulation numbers) are very good control parameters for the heat transfer and fluid flow. Nowadays, optimal parameters are necessary for the heat transfer enhancement in different practical applications. The effects of the involved parameters on the streamlines and isotherms as well as on the average Nusselt number and nanofluid flow rate have been analyzed. It has been found that the heat transfer rate and fluid flow rate are non-monotonic functions of the cavity inclination angle and undulation number.  相似文献

The problem of laminar fluid flow, which results from the stretching of a vertical surface with variable stream conditions in a nanofluid due to solar energy,is investigated numerically. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of the Brownian motion and thermophoresis in the presence of thermal stratification. The symmetry groups admitted by the corresponding boundary value problem are obtained by using a special form of Lie group transformations, namely, the scaling group of transformations. An exact solution is obtained for the translation symmetrys, and the numerical solutions are obtained for the scaling symmetry. This solution depends on the Lewis number, the Brownian motion parameter, the thermal stratification parameter, and the thermophoretic parameter. The conclusion is drawn that the flow field, the temperature, and the nanoparticle volume fraction profiles are significantly influenced by these parameters.Nanofluids have been shown to increase the thermal conductivity and convective heat transfer performance of base liquids.Nanoparticles in the base fluids also offer the potential in improving the radiative properties of the liquids, leading to an increase in the efficiency of direct absorption solar collectors.  相似文献

The present research article is devoted to studying the characteristics of Cattaneo-Christov heat and mass fluxes in the Maxwell nanofluid flow caused by a stretching sheet with the magnetic field properties. The Maxwell nanofluid is investigated with the impact of the Lorentz force to examine the consequence of a magnetic field on the flow characteristics and the transport of energy. The heat and mass transport mechanisms in the current physical model are analyzed with the modified versions of Fourier’s and Fick’s laws, respectively. Additionally, the well-known Buongiorno model for the nanofluids is first introduced together with the Cattaneo-Christov heat and mass fluxes during the transient motion of the Maxwell fluid. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) for the flow and energy transport phenomena are obtained by using the Maxwell model and the Cattaneo-Christov theory in addition to the laws of conservation. Appropriate transformations are used to convert the PDEs into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The homotopic solution methodology is applied to the nonlinear differential system for an analytic solution. The results for the time relaxation parameter in the flow, thermal energy, and mass transport equations are discussed graphically. It is noted that higher values of the thermal and solutal relaxation time parameters in the Cattaneo-Christov heat and mass fluxes decline the thermal and concentration fields of the nanofluid. Further, larger values of the thermophoretic force enhance the heat and mass transport in the nanoliquid. Moreover, the Brownian motion of the nanoparticles declines the concentration field and increases the temperature field. The validation of the results is assured with the help of numerical tabular data for the surface velocity gradient.  相似文献

A nanofluid is composed of a base fluid component and nanoparticles, in which the nanoparticles are dispersed in the base fluid. The addition of nanoparticles into a base fluid can remarkably improve the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid, and such an increment of thermal conductivity can play an important role in improving the heat transfer rate of the base fluid. Further, the dynamics of non-Newtonian fluids along with nanoparticles is quite interesting with numerous industrial applications. The present predominately predictive modeling studies the flow of the viscoelastic Oldroyd-B fluid over a rotating disk in the presence of nanoparticles. A progressive amendment in the heat and concentration equations is made by exploiting the Cattaneo-Christov heat and mass flux expressions. The characteristic of the Lorentz force due to the magnetic field applied normal to the disk is studied. The Buongiorno model together with the Cattaneo-Christov theory is implemented in the Oldroyd-B nanofluid flow to investigate the heat and mass transport mechanism. This theory predicts the characteristics of the fluid thermal and solutal relaxation time on the boundary layer flow. The von K′arm′an similarity functions are utilized to convert the partial differential equations(PDEs) into ordinary differential equations(ODEs). A homotopic approach for obtaining the analytical solutions to the governing nonlinear problem is carried out. The graphical results are obtained for the velocity field, temperature, and concentration distributions. Comparisons are made for a limiting case between the numerical and analytical solutions, and the results are found in good agreement. The results reveal that the thermal and solutal relaxation time parameters diminish the temperature and concentration distributions, respectively. The axial flow decreases in the downward direction for higher values of the retardation time parameter. The impact of the thermophoresis parameter boosts the temperature distribution.  相似文献

The problem of steady, laminar, mixed convection boundary-layer flow over an isothermal vertical wedge embedded in a porous medium saturated with a nanofluid is studied, in the presence of thermal radiation. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis with Rosseland diffusion approximation. The wedge surface is maintained at a constant temperature and a constant nanoparticle volume fraction. The resulting governing equations are non-dimensionalized and transformed into a non-similar form and then solved by Keller box method. A comparison is made with the available results in the literature, and our results are in very good agreement with the known results. A parametric study of the physical parameters is made, and a representative set of numerical results for the velocity, temperature, and volume fraction, the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are presented graphically. The salient features of the results are analyzed and discussed.  相似文献

This article reports the laminar axisymmetric flow of nanofluid over a non-linearly stretching sheet. The model used for nanofluid contains the simultaneous effects of Brownian motion and thermophoretic diffusion of nanoparticles. The recently proposed boundary condition is considered which requires the mass flux of nanoparticles at the wall to be zero. Analytic solutions of the arising boundary value problem are obtained by optimal homotopy analysis method. Moreover the numerical solutions are computed by Keller–Box method. Both the solutions are found in excellent agreement. The behavior of Brownian motion on the fluid temperature and wall heat transfer rate is insignificant. Further the nanoparticle volume fraction distribution is found to be negative near the vicinity of the stretching sheet.  相似文献

Based on the lattice Boltzmann (LB) approach, a novel hybrid method has been proposed for getting insight into the microscale characteristics of the multicomponent flow of nanofluid. In this method, the whole computational domain is divided into two regions in which different-sized meshes are involved for simulation (fine mesh and coarse mesh). The multicomponent LB method is adopted in the fine mesh region, and the single-component LB approach is applied to the coarse mesh region where the nanofluid is treated as a mixed single-component fluid. The conservation principles of mass, momentum and energy are used to derive a hybrid scheme across the different scaled regions. Numerical simulation is carried out for the Couette flow and convective heat transfer in a parallel plate channel to validate the hybrid method. The computational results indicate that by means of the present method, not only the microscopic characteristics of the nanofluid flow can be simulated, but also the computational efficiency can be remarkably improved compared with the pure multicomponent LB method.  相似文献

In this numerical study, the effects of variable thermal conductivity models on the combined convection heat transfer in a two-dimensional lid-driven square enclosure are investigated. The fluid in the square enclosure is a water-based nanofluid containing alumina nanoparticles. The top and bottom horizontal walls are insulated, while the vertical walls are kept at different constant temperatures. Five different thermal conductivity models are used to evaluate the effects of various parameters, such as the nanofluid bulk temperature, nanoparticle size, nanoparticle volume fraction, Brownian motion, interfacial layer thickness, etc. The governing stream–vorticity equations are solved by using a second-order central finite difference scheme coupled with the conservation of mass and energy. It is found that higher heat transfer is predicted when the effects of the nanoparticle size and bulk temperature of the nanofluid are taken into account.  相似文献

The rheological features of an incompressible axi-symmetric Casson-Maxwell nanofluid flow between two stationary disks are examined. The lower permeable disk is located at z =-a, while the upper disk is placed at z = a. Both the disks are porous and subjected to uniform injection. The fluid properties such as thermal conductivity vary with temperature. The Cattaneo-Christov thermal expression is implemented along with the Buongiorno nanofluid theory. By operating the similarity functions, the reduced form of the fluid model in terms of ordinary differential equations is obtained and solved by the bvp4 c numerical technique. The physical quantities are demonstrated graphically on the velocity and temperature fields. Three-dimensional flow arrangements and twodimensional contour patterns against several dimensionless variables are also sketched. The numerical values of the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers for various quantities are presented in tabular set-up. The intensity of the linear relationship between the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers is assessed through Pearson's product-moment correlation technique. The statistical implication of the linear association between variables is also examined by the t-test statistic approach.  相似文献

Laminar flow and heat transfer of water-Al2O3 nanofluid under constant heat flux have been investigated numerically. Single-phase with temperature dependant effective properties has been assumed for fluid. Enhancement in heat transfer and increase in friction factor have been obtained by the use of nanofluid. Heat transfer enhancement is more obvious by the use of variable properties. Also, effects of temperature variation on nanofluid heat transfer are greater than the pure water.  相似文献

The problem of peristaltic flow of a nanofluid in an asymmetric channel is analyzed by taking into account the slip effects. The relevant equations for the nanofluid are presented and simplified by the long wavelength and small Reynolds number. Closed form solutions for stream function and pressure gradient are developed. However series expressions for temperature and Nanoparticle profiles are constructed. Finally, the influence of several parameters on the physical quantities of interest is discussed.  相似文献

In this study, a numerical simulation of copper microchannel heatsink (MCHS) using nanofluids as coolants is presented. The nanofluid is a mixture of pure water and nanoscale metallic or nonmetallic particles with various volume fractions. Also, the effects of various volume fractions, volumetric flow rate and various materials of nanoparticles on the performance of MCHS have been developed. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model was developed using the commercial software package FLUENT, to investigate the conjugate fluid flow and heat transfer phenomena in micro channel heatsinks. The results show that the cooling performance of a microchannel heat sink with water based nanofluid containing Al2O3 (vol 8%) is enhanced by about 4.5% compared with micro channel heatsink with pure water. Nanofluids reduce both the thermal resistance and the temperature difference between the top (heated) surface of the MCHS and inlet nanofluid compared with that pure water. The cooling performance of a micro channel heat sink with metal nanofluids improves compared with that of a micro channel heat sink with oxide metal nanofluids because the thermal conductivity of metal nanofluid is higher than oxide metal nanofluids. Micro channel heat sinks with nanofluids are expected to be good candidates as the next generation cooling devices for removing ultra high heat flux.  相似文献

In this paper, the mechanism of thermal energy transport in swirling flow of the Maxwell nanofluid induced by a stretchable rotating cylinder is studied. The rotation of the cylinder is kept constant in order to avoid the induced axially secondary flow. Further, the novel features of heat generation/absorption, thermal radiation, and Joule heating are studied to control the rate of heat transfer. The effects of Brownian and thermophoretic forces exerted by the Maxwell nanofluid to the transport of thermal energy are investigated by utilizing an effective model for the nanofluid proposed by Buongiorno. The whole physical problem of fluid flow and thermal energy transport is modelled in the form of partial differential equations(PDEs) and transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs) with the help of the suitable flow ansatz.Numerically acquired results through the technique bvp4c are reported graphically with physical explanation. Graphical analysis reveals that there is higher transport of heat energy in the Maxwell nanoliquid for a constant wall temperature(CWT) as compared with the prescribed surface temperature(PST). Both thermophoretic and Brownian forces enhance the thermal energy transport in the flowing Maxwell nanofluid. Moreover, the temperature distribution increases with increasing values of the radiation parameter and the Eckert number. It is also noted that an increase in Reynolds number reduces the penetration depth, and as a result the flow and transport of energy occur only near the surface of the cylinder.  相似文献
