The action of a highfrequency electromagnetic field on a dilute suspension of spherical particles with a constant dipole moment is studied using statistical mechanics. An expression for effective viscosity is obtained. It is shown that the shear viscosity of the dilute suspension depends on the frequency, magnitude, and direction of the highfrequency electromagnetic field. Depending on the frequency of the highfrequency electromagnetic field, the rotation of the suspension particles is decelerated or accelerated, with the viscosity increasing or decreasing, respectively. It is shown that the acceleration of the suspension particles by a highfrequency electromagnetic field and, hence, the decrease in shear viscosity has a resonant nature.  相似文献

In this work we consider transport in ordered and disordered porous media using singlephase flow in rigid porous mediaas an example. We defineorder anddisorder in terms of geometrical integrals that arise naturally in the method of volume averaging, and we show that dependent variables for ordered media must generally be defined in terms of thecellular average. The cellular average can be constructed by means of a weighting function, thus transport processes in both ordered and disordered media can be treated with a single theory based on weighted averages. Part I provides some basic ideas associated with ordered and disordered media, weighted averages, and the theory of distributions. In Part II a generalized averaging procedure is presented and in Part III the closure problem is developed and the theory is compared with experiment. A solution is obtained for the relationship between load, displacement and inner contact radius for an axisymmetric, spherically concave, rigid punch, indenting an elastic half-space. Analytic approximations are developed for the limiting cases in which the ratio of the inner and outer radii of the annular contact region is respectively small and close to unity. An analysis is presented for laminar source flow between parallel stationary porous disks with suction at one of the disks and equal injection at the other. The solution is in the form of an infinite series expansion about the solution at infinite radius, and is valid for all suction and injection rates. Mathematical results are derived for the schlieren and shadowgraph contrast variation due to the refraction of light rays passing through two-dimensional compressible vortices with viscous cores. Both standard and small-disturbance solutions are obtained. It is shown that schlieren and shadowgraph produce substantially different contrast profiles. Further, the shadowgraph contrast variation is shown to be very sensitive to the vortex velocity profile and is also dependent on the location of the peak peripheral velocity (viscous core radius). The computed results are compared to actual contrast measurements made for rotor tip vortices using the shadowgraph flow visualization technique. Summary We study a stationary, nonlinear, particle transport problem in slab geometry with general boundary conditions. The existence and uniqueness of the solution is proved by means of fixed point techniques, provided that the source term is sufficiently small.

Many data are available on the drag Cx and the distribution of the static pressure over the surface of a sphere [1, 2]. However, there are virtually no data on pulsations of the pressure over the surface of a sphere. In the present paper, the results are given of an investigation of the total and spectral levels of the pressure pulsations at different points of the surface of a sphere at M 0.5–1.0 and Re (1.7–2.7)·.106. It was found that the strongest pressure pulsations occur on the side in the region of the angle 90°. In this region at M 0.6–0.8 the relative total level o/q where q is the velocity head in the oncoming stream, reaches values 0.18–0.22. It was established that at M = 0.7–0.9 narrow-band maxima occur in the spectra of the pressure pulsations at frequencies Sh fD/V = 0.2–0.3. The results of laboratory observations of the deformation of deep water gravity waves leading to wave breaking are reported. The specially developed visualization technique which was used is described. A preliminary analysis of the results has led to similar conclusions than recently developed theories. Summary In a previous research we have shown that the KS-transformation, developed by Kustaanheimo and Stiefel for the regularization of the Kepler problem, may be interpreted as the correspondence which associates to each null 4-vector of the space of Minkowski a one-index spinor, defined up to a phase factor, and we have obtained a new form of the KS-transformation. In the present research we show that this formulation allows a straight derivation of the Hopf fibering of the sphere S3 (characterized by unit spinors) having the base space given by the section (sphere S2) of the light cone, and we show that the KS-transformation allows the quantization of the symplectic manifold S2 in the sense of Souriau. The sphere S3 turns out to be a contact quantized manifold. The bilinear relation characteristic of the KS-theory and the column vectors of the KS-matrix are intimately related to the contact structure.
Sommario In un precedente lavoro si è mostrato che la trasformazione KS, introdotta da Kustaanheimo e Stiefel per regolarizzare il problema di Keplero, è riconducibile alla ben nota corrispondenza fra vettori del cono isotropo dello spazio di Minkowski e spinori semplici, definiti a meno della fase, e si è pervenuti ad una nuova formulazione della KS. Nel presente lavoro si mostra come da tale formulazione scaturisca in modo naturale la fibrazione di Hopf della sfera S3 (caratterizzata dagli spinori unitari) avente quale base una sezione (sfera S2) del cono isotropo e si mette in luce come la trasformazione KS consenta di effettuare la quantizzazione della varietà simplettica S2 nel senso di Souriau e di ottenere la sfera S3 quale varietà quantica di contatto. La relazione bilineare caratteristica della teoria KS ed i vettori colonna della matrice KS risultano intimamente legati alla struttura di contatto.

The propagation and reflection of one-dimensional plane unsteady waves and pulses in a mixture of a fluid with two-phase bubbles containing evaporating drops is investigated. A significant effect of unsteady evaporation of the drops in the zone ahead of the shock wave on the wave propagation is demonstrated. The evaporation of the drops results in a pressure increase ahead of the wave and the shock wave as it were climbs to increasing pressure level. In contrast to bubbly fluids with single-phase bubbles, in a fluid with two-phase bubbles, at a fixed phase volume fraction, a decrease in bubble size results in an increase rather than a decrease of the oscillation amplitude. The wave reflection from a solid wall is essentially nonlinear and the maximum pressure attained at the wall is several times greater than the incident-wave intensity.  相似文献

The problem of hypersonic flow over a flat delta plate with a high sweepback anglex at angles of attack close to /2 is solved using a numerical algorithm based on transition to the conical solution. The existence of conical flow at /2 with the velocity vector directed towards the apex of the plate is established. Values ofC p/sin2 and the thickness of the shock layer in the plane of symmetry of the plate are given as functions of the hypersonic similarity parameterk=tan tanx. An experimental apparatus for investigating Rayleigh-Taylor instability in the transition layer between two gases at accelerations g 105g0 (g0 is the acceleration of gravity) is described. The constantly acting acceleration is communicated to the contact zone by the compression wave formed ahead of a flame front. The linear stage of development is investigated together with the effect of the thickness of the contact zone. We describe a system in which vortices are shed from a cylindrical free surface approximately centered in a rotating flow. Shedding is controlled by the parameter =2 g/ 2 d, where g, , d denote gravity, rotation rate and the diameter of the free surface. We find vortex shedding for >0.162 and no vortex shedding for < 0.0847. The range depends on the aspect ratio L/d, where L is the column length, in a nonmonotonic fashion. The effective length method [1, 2] has been used to make systematic calculations of the heat transfer for laminar and turbulent boundary layers on slender blunt-nosed cones at small angles of attack ( + 5° in a separationless hypersonic air stream dissociating in equilibrium (half-angles of the cones 0 20°, angles of attack 0 15°, Mach numbers 5 M 25). The parameters of the gas at the outer edge of the boundary layer were taken equal to the inviscid parameters on the surface of the cones. In the hypersonic thin shock layer approximation for a small ratio k of the densities before and after the normal shock wave the solution of [1] for the vicinity of the stagnation point of a smooth blunt body is extended to the case of nonuniform outer flow. It is shown that the effect of this nonuniformity can be taken into account with the aid of the effective shock wave radius of curvature R*, whose introduction makes it possible to reduce to universal relations the data for different nonuniform outer flows with practically the same similarity criterion k.
