The effect of a thin isotropic coating on the edge effect zone in a representative element of a coated material is examined. Isotropic and transversely isotropic materials are considered. The transversely isotropic material has the elastic properties of unidirectional glass-fiber-reinforced plastic. The decay of the edge effect in the directions perpendicular to the coating plane and to the plane of isotropy is studied. A boundary-value problem of elasticity for piecewise-homogeneouse orthotropic bodies and a quantitative edge effect decay criterion for normal stresses are used as a design model. The problem is solved using the finite-difference method and base schemes. The results of evaluation of the edge effect zone in homogeneous and inhomogeneous materials are presented. It is shown that the presence of a thin isotropic coating blocks the edge effect, that is, decreases the edge effect zone in both isotropic and transversely isotropic materials __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 43, No. 12, pp. 61–67, December 2007.  相似文献

Summary  The spherically symmetric dynamic thermoelastic problem for a special nonhomogeneous transversely isotropic elastic hollow sphere is formulated by introduction of a dependent variable and separation of variables technique. The derived solution can be degenerated into that for a homogeneous transversely isotropic hollow sphere, a nonhomogeneous isotropic hollow sphere or a solid sphere. The present method, allow to avoid integral transforms, is suited for a hollow sphere of arbitrary thickness subjected to arbitrary spherical symmetric thermal and mechanical loads, and is convenient in dealing with different boundary conditions of dynamic thermoelasticity . The numerical calculation involved is easy to be performed and its results are also presented. Summary  Thermopiezoelastic materials have recently attracted considerable attention because of their potential use in intelligent or smart structural systems. The governing equations of a thermopiezoelastic medium are more complex due to the intrinsic coupling effects that take place among mechanical, electrical and thermal fields. In this analysis, we deal with the problem of a crack in a semi-infinite, transversely isotropic, thermopiezoelastic material by means of potential functions and Fourier transforms under steady heat-flux loading conditions. The problem is reduced to a singular integral equation that is solved. The thermal stress intensity factor for a crack situated in a cadmium selenide material is calculated. The paper studies the stress rupture behavior of a reinforced viscoelastic composite through which a penny-shaped mode I crack propagates under a constant load. The composite has hexagonal symmetry and consists of elastic isotropic fibers and viscoelastic isotropic matrix. The material is modeled as a transversely isotropic homogeneous viscoelastic medium with effective characteristics. The crack is in the isotropy plane. The ring-shaped fracture process zone at the crack front is modeled by a modified Dugdale zone with time-dependent stresses. The viscoelastic properties of the matrix are characterized using a resolvent integral operator. Use is made of Volterra's principle, the method of operator continued fractions, and the theory of precritical crack growth in viscoelastic bodies. The problem is reduced to nonlinear integral equations. Numerical results are obtained for certain components of the composite, constant volume fractions, and different fracture strengths Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 8, pp. 45–51, August 2008.  相似文献

The paper presents a three-dimensional solution to the equilibrium equations for linear elastic transversely isotropic inhomogeneous media. We assume that the material has constant Poisson’s ratios, and its Young’s and shear moduli have the same functional form of dependence on the co-ordinate normal to the plane of isotropy. We show, apparently for the first time, that stresses and displacements in such an inhomogeneous transversely isotropic elastic solid can be represented in terms of two displacement functions which satisfy the second- and fourth-order partial differential equations. We examine and discuss key aspects of the new representation; they include the relationship between the new displacement functions and Plevako’s solution for isotropic inhomogeneous material with constant Poisson’s ratio as well as the application of the new representation to some important classes of three-dimensional elasticity problems. As an example, the displacement function is derived that can be used to determine stresses and displacements in an inhomogeneous transversely isotropic half-space which is subjected to a concentrated force normal to a free surface and applied at the origin (Boussinesq’s problem).  相似文献

The method of successive approximations is used to determine the thermoelastoplastic stress-strain state of isotropic and transversally isotropic laminated shells of revolution under axisymmetric loading. Hill’s theory of plasticity with isotropic hardening is used to describe the deformation of transversely isotropic materials, while the theory of deformation along paths of small curvature is used to describe the deformation of isotropic materials. The elastoplastic stress-strain state of a two-layer cylindrical shell under mechanical and thermal loads is analyzed __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 42, No. 6, pp. 71–80, June 2006.  相似文献

The Boussinesq problem, that is, determining the deformation in a hyperelastic half-space due to a point force normal to the boundary, is an important problem of engineering, geomechanics, and other fields to which elasticity theory is often applied. While linear solutions produce useful Greens functions, they also predict infinite displacements and other physically inconsistent results nearby and at the point of application of the load where the most critical and interesting material behavior occurs. To illuminate the deformation due to such a load in the region of interest, asymptotic analysis of the nonlinear Boussinesq problem has been considered in the context of isotropic hyperelasticity. Studies considering transversely isotropic materials have also been broadly used in the linear theory, but have not been treated within the nonlinear framework. In this paper we extend the nonlinearly elastic isotropic analysis to transverse isotropy, producing a more general theory which also better encompasses applications involving layered media. The governing equations for nonlinearly elastic, transversely isotropic solids are derived, conservation laws of elastostatics are invoked, asymptotic forms of the deformation solutions are hypothesized, and the differential equations governing deformation near the point load are determined. The analysis also develops sequences of simple tests to determine if a transversely isotropic material can possibly sustain a finite deflection under the point load. The results are applied to a variety of transversely isotropic materials, and the effects of the anisotropy considered is demonstrated by comparison of the resulting deformation with similar asymptotic solutions in the isotropic theory. The propagation of plane waves in a fibre-reinforced, anisotropic, generalized thermoelastic media is discussed. The governing equations in xy plane are solved to obtain a cubic equation in phase velocity. Three coupled waves, namely quasi-P, quasi-SV and quasi-thermal waves are shown to exist. The propagation of Rayleigh waves in stress free thermally insulated and transversely isotropic fibre-reinforced thermoelastic solid half-space is also investigated. The frequency equation is obtained for these waves. The velocities of the plane waves are shown graphically with the angle of propagation. The numerical results are also compared to those without thermal disturbances and anisotropy parameters.  相似文献

In this paper, an exact analytical solution is presented for a transversely isotropic functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic (FGMEE) cantilever beam, which is subjected to a uniform load on its upper surface, as well as the concentrated force and moment at the free end. This solution can be applied for any form of gradient distribution. For the basic equations of plane problem, all the partial differential equations governing the stress field, electric, and magnetic potentials are derived. Then, the expressions of Airy stress, electric, and magnetic potential functions are assumed as quadratic polynomials of the longitudinal coordinate. Based on all the boundary conditions, the exact expressions of the three functions can be determined. As numerical examples, the material parameters are set as exponential and linear distributions in the thickness direction. The effects of the material parameters on the mechanical, electric, and magnetic fields of the cantilever beam are analyzed in detail.  相似文献

The static equilibrium of a transversely isotropic magnetoelectroelastic body with a plane crack of arbitrary shape in the isotropy plane under antisymmetric mechanical loading is studied. The relationships between the stress intensity factors (SIFs) for an infinite magnetoelectroelastic body and the SIFs for a purely elastic body with the same crack and under the same antisymmetric loading are established. This enables the SIFs for a magnetoelectroelastic body to be found directly from the analogous problem of elasticity. As an example of using this result, the SIFs for penny-shaped, elliptic, and parabolic cracks in a magnetoelectroelastic body under antisymmetric mechanical loading are found Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 10, pp. 37–51, October 2008.  相似文献

A static-equilibrium problem is solved for an electroelastic transversely isotropic medium with a flat crack of arbitrary shape located in the plane of isotropy. The medium is subjected to symmetric mechanical and electric loads. A relationship is established between the stress intensity factor (SIF) and electric-displacement intensity factor (EDIF) for an infinite piezoceramic body and the SIF for a purely elastic material with a crack of the same shape. This allows us to find the SIF and EDIF for an electroelastic material directly from the corresponding elastic problem, not solving electroelastic problems. As an example, the SIF and EDIF are determined for an elliptical crack in a piezoceramic body assuming linear behavior of the stresses and the normal electric displacement on the crack surface __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 41, No. 11, pp. 67–77, November 2005.  相似文献

A transversely isotropic material in the sense of Green is considered. A complete solution in terms of retarded potential functions for the wave equations in transversely isotropic media is presented. In this paper we reduce the number of potential functions to only one, and we discuss the required conditions. As a special case, the torsionless and rotationally symmetric configuration with respect to the axis of symmetry of the material is discussed. The limiting case of elastostatics is cited, where the solution is reduced to the Lekhnitskii–Hu–Nowacki solution. The solution is simplified for the special case of isotropy. In this way, a new series of potential functions (to the best knowledge of the author) for the elastodynamics problem of isotropic materials is presented This solution is reduced to a special case of the Cauchy–Kovalevski–Somigliana solution, if the displacements satisfy specific conditions. Finally, Boggio's Theorem is generalized for transversely isotropic media which may be of interest to the reader beyond the present application. Dedicated to Morton E. Gurtin  相似文献

A model of plasticity for a transversely isotropic material with allowance for complex loading is developed, based on results of experiments with homogeneous cylindrical specimens of isotropic materials. An empirical model of plasticity for isotropic metals is constructed with allowance for vector properties of the material. The model is extended to a particular case of anisotropy. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 50, No. 1, pp. 128–133, January–February, 2009.  相似文献

Stationary kinks (elastostatic shocks) are examined in the context of a base neo-Hookean response augmented with unidirectional reinforcing that is characterized by a single additional constitutive parameter for the additional fiber reinforcing stiffness. Previous work has shown that such a transversely isotropic material can lose ellipticity in plane deformation if the reinforcing is sufficiently large and the fiber direction is sufficiently compressed. Here we show that the same reinforcing levels can give rise to piecewise smooth plane deformations separated by a plane stationary kink. Attention is restricted to deformations in which, on one side of the kink, the load axis is aligned with the fiber axis. Then the fiber stretch on this side of the kink is a natural load parameter. It is found that such a deformation can support a planar kink for a certain range of this load parameter. This range is dependent on the reinforcing parameter, and can even involve fiber extension if the reinforcing is sufficiently large. The set of all deformation states on the other side of the kink is precisely characterized in terms of a one-parameter family of (kink orientation, kink strength)-pairs. The results are interpreted in terms of the associated fiber alignment discontinuity and fiber stretch discontinuity.  相似文献

Summary  This contribution presents an efficient analytical model as well as a FE computation of the critical load, which leads to local stability failure (wrinkling) in sandwich structures. The analytical model assumes an orthotropic face layer and a thick transversely isotropic core. In the last section, a more general core material model is considered. Common core materials (foams and honeycombs) can be described with good accuracy within this model. The main advantage of the solution is the consideration of general loading conditions for the orthotropic face layer as well as in-plane deformations of the core. The results of the FE calculations and the analytical model are in good agreement with each other. Received 7 January 1999; accepted for publication 15 June 1999  相似文献

A generalized plane strain JKR model is established for non-slipping adhesive contact between an elastic transversely isotropic cylinder and a dissimilar elastic transversely isotropic half plane, in which a pulling force acts on the cylinder with the pulling direction at an angle inclined to the contact interface. Full-coupled solutions are obtained through the Griffith energy balance between elastic and surface energies. The analysis shows that, for a special case, i.e., the direction of pulling normal to the contact interface, the full-coupled solution can be approximated by a non-oscillatory one, in which the critical pull-off force, pull-off contact half-width and adhesion strength can be expressed explicitly. For the other cases, i.e., the direction of pulling inclined to the contact interface, tangential tractions have significant effects on the pull-off process, it should be described by an exact full-coupled solution. The elastic anisotropy leads to an orientation-dependent pull-off force and adhesion strength. This study could not only supply an exact solution to the generalized JKR model of transversely isotropic materials, but also suggest a reversible adhesion sensor designed by transversely isotropic materials, such as PZT or fiber-reinforced materials with parallel fibers.  相似文献

The paper presents a technique for numerical analysis of the elastoplastic stress-strain state of flexible laminated shells of revolution made of isotropic and transversely isotropic materials and subjected to axisymmetric loading and heating. The technique is based on the Kirchhoff-Love hypotheses for the whole laminate. The deformation of the isotropic materials is described using the theory of deformation along paths of small curvature. The deformation of the transversely isotropic material is described using the flow theory with isotropic hardening. The process of loading is divided into steps at each of which the stress-strain state is determined by the method of successive approximations. The paper establishes a relationship between the solutions for cracks located in the isotropy plane of a transversely isotropic piezoceramic medium and opened (without friction) by rigid inclusions and the solutions for cracks in a purely elastic medium. This makes it possible to calculate the stress intensity factor (SIF) for cracks in an electroelastic medium from the SIF for an elastic isotropic material, without the need to solve the electroelastic problem. The use of the approach is exemplified by a penny-shaped crack opened by either a disk-shaped rigid inclusion of constant thickness or a rigid oblate spheroidal inclusion in an electroelastic medium __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 7, pp. 47–60, July 2008.  相似文献

Summary  In the first part of the article an infinite circular cylinder is considered, made of transversely isotropic elastic material and weakened by a plane crack perpendicular to its axis O z. The crack is opened by an arbitrary normal stress. The second part is devoted to the same crack loaded by an arbitrary tangential stress. The complete solution in both cases is presented as a sum of the solution of a similar problem of a crack in an infinite space and an integral transform term, the parameters of which are determined from a set of linear algebraic equations derived from the boundary conditions. Governing integral equations with respect to the yet unknown crack displacement discontinuities are obtained. In the case of a circular crack, these equations can be inverted and solved by the method of consecutive interations. Received 30 November 2000; accepted for publication 3 May 2001  相似文献
