A numerical study of the evaporation in mixed convection of a pure alcohol liquid film: ethanol and methanol was investigated. It is a turbulent liquid film falling on the internal face of a vertical tube. A laminar flow of dry air enters the vertical tube at constant temperature in the downward direction. The wall of the tube is subjected to a constant and uniform heat flux. The model solves the coupled parabolic governing equations in both phases including turbulent liquid film together with the boundary and interfacial conditions. The systems of equations obtained by using an implicit finite difference method are solved by TDMA method. A Van Driest model is adopted to simulate the turbulent liquid film flow. The influence of the inlet liquid flow, Reynolds number in the gas flow and the wall heat flux on the intensity of heat and mass transfers are examined. A comparison between the results obtained for studied alcohols and water in the same conditions is made.  相似文献

In the current study, model expressions for fifth-order velocity moments obtained from the truncated Gram-Charlier series expansions model for a turbulent flow field probability density function are validated using data from direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a planar turbulent flow in a strained channel. Simplicity of the model expressions, the lack of unknown coefficients, and their applicability to non-Gaussian turbulent flows make this approach attractive to use for closing turbulent models based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The study confirms validity of the model expressions. It also shows that the imposed flow deformation improves an agreement between the model and DNS profiles for the fifth-order moments in the flow buffer zone including when the flow reverses its direction. The study reveals sensitivity of particularly odd velocity moments to the grid resolution. A new length scale is proposed as a criterion for the grid generation near the wall and in the other flow areas dominated by high mean velocity gradients when higher-order statistics have to be collected from DNS.  相似文献

The closure problem of turbulence is still a challenging issue in turbulence modeling. In this work, a stability condition is used to close turbulence. Specifically, we regard single-phase flow as a mixture of turbulent and non-turbulent fluids, separating the structure of turbulence. Subsequently, according to the picture of the turbulent eddy cascade, the energy contained in turbulent flow is decomposed into different parts and then quantified. A turbulence stability condition, similar to the principle of the energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMS) model for gas–solid systems, is formulated to close the dynamic constraint equations of turbulence, allowing the inhomogeneous structural parameters of turbulence to be optimized. We name this model as the “EMMS-based turbulence model”, and use it to construct the corresponding turbulent viscosity coefficient. To validate the EMMS-based turbulence model, it is used to simulate two classical benchmark problems, lid-driven cavity flow and turbulent flow with forced convection in an empty room. The numerical results show that the EMMS-based turbulence model improves the accuracy of turbulence modeling due to it considers the principle of compromise in competition between viscosity and inertia.  相似文献

The results of numerically modeling two-dimensional two-phase flow of the “gas-solid particles” type in a vertical turbulent jet are presented for three cases of its configuration, namely, descending, ascending, and without account of gravity. Both flow phases are modeled on the basis of the Navier-Stokes equations averaged within the framework of the Reynolds approximation and closed by an extended k-? turbulence model. The averaged two-phase flow parameters (particle and gas velocities, particle concentration, turbulent kinetic energy, and its dissipation) are described using the model of mutually-penetrating continua. The model developed allows for both the direct effect of turbulence on the motion of disperse-phase particles and the inverse effect of the particles on turbulence leading to either an increase or a decrease in the turbulent kinetic energy of the gas. The model takes account for gravity, viscous drag, and the Saffman lift. The system of equations is solved using a difference method. The calculated results are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental data which confirms the effect of solid particles on the mean and turbulent characteristics of gas jets.  相似文献

A model for predicting the frequency of occurrence of sublayer bursts in non-Newtonian fluids is developed. The model is based on the similarity between turbulent pipe flow and a flat plate boundary layer at zero incidence. All parameters in the model are determined from hydrodynamic studies. The predicted bursting periods for Newtonian, power-law, and drag-reducing fluids are in reasonable agreement with previously published data and correlations.  相似文献

Gas-particle two-phase turbulent flow in a vertical duct   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Two-phase gas-phase turbulent flows at various loadings between the two vertical parallel plates are analyzed. A thermodynamically consistent turbulent two-phase flow model that accounts for the phase fluctuation energy transport and interaction is used. The governing equation of the gas-phase is upgraded to a two-equation low Reynolds number turbulence closure model that can be integrated directly to the wall. A no-slip boundary condition for the gas-phase and slip-boundary condition for the particulate phase are used. The computational model is first applied to dilute gas-particle turbulent flow between two parallel vertical walls. The predicted mean velocity and turbulence intensity profiles are compared with the experimental data of Tsuji et al. (1984) for vertical pipe flows, and good agreement is observed. Examples of additional flow properties such as the phasic fluctuation energy, phasic fluctuation energy production and dissipation, as well as interaction momentum and energy supply terms are also presented and discussed.

Applications to the relatively dense gas-particle turbulent flows in a vertical channel are also studied. The model predictions are compared with the experimental data of Miller & Gidaspow and reasonable agreement is observed. It is shown that flow behavior is strongly affected by the phasic fluctuation energy, and the momentum and energy transfer between the particulate and the fluid constituents.  相似文献

A model of effectively viscous turbulent flows satisfying the Navier-Stokes equations and certain slip conditions at the walls is analyzed. The turbulent viscosity is determined on the basis of the principle of minimum energy dissipation rate, whose significance and conditions of applicability are discussed in detail. A new separated turbulent flow model is outlined. The problem of turbulent flow in a porous rotating tube is solved. The existence of two metastable flow regimes is predicted: one with an axial circulation zone, the other straight-through. In the case of a strongly swirled flow the first of these has a greater probability of realization; however, as the rotation weakens, in a certain critical situation the circulation zone collapses, after which the flow can only be straight-through. Despite the absence of empirical content, every aspect of the proposed theory is in good agreement with the experimental research on vortex chamber flows.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 22–32, May–June, 1985.  相似文献

A numerical model is developed, and interaction between a turbulent mixing zone and a local perturbation of the density field in a pycnocline is studied. It is demonstrated that the flow induced by a local perturbation of the density field can generate turbulence energy in the turbulent mixing zone and increase its lifetime.  相似文献

The parameters of an axisymmetric turbulent two-phase swirling flow of a viscous heat-conducting gas containing a liquid dispersed phase in the presence of water vapor condensation on the particles are calculated. For the dispersed phase, a model taking into account the variation of the vapor concentration and the particle size due to condensation or evaporation is proposed. The distributions of the parameters of the basic unperturbed flow obtained numerically are used in the numerical solution of the linear problem of hydrodynamic stability within the time-dependent formulation. The parameters of small-amplitude harmonic perturbations propagating along the vortex axis are investigated in the linear formulation. A significant effect of heat release in the gas due to water vapor condensation on the parameters of the neutral perturbations and the neutral-stability curves is detected.  相似文献

This work is focused on the study of the impingement of a turbulent plane jet on a moving film. A computational fluid dynamics code has been used to simulate the interaction between the turbulent plane jet and the moving film. Since the problem of coupling between turbulence and free surface flow is poorly understood and experiments in this problem are difficult to carry out, this new numerical tool has been designed to give insight into global and local parameters of the free surface flow. A flat plate experiment was performed in a water tunnel to determine the effects of a vortex generator jet on the characteristics of a turbulent boundary layer at various wall normal locations. The results show that the characteristic distributions of the turbulent fluctuation quantities are nearly unaffected by the induced vortex structures neither in the steady nor in the dynamic blowing case. The shear layer interaction between the turbulent main flow and the jet flow produces less turbulent fluctuations than it is expected from a turbulent free jet flow. Thus, the mixing process of this flow control strategy is based only on a large-scale momentum transport superimposed by the turbulent fluctuation quantities. This allows a separation of scales for physical interpretation and numerical simulations.  相似文献

A calculation is made of the turbulent zone of mixing of two flows of viscous and heat conducting gas in a Laval nozzle. For such a nozzle of given geometry, a comparison is made of calculations of the integrated characteristics of flows that are nonuniform with respect to the total parameters in the framework of various models: laminar hydraulics, viscous laminar hydraulics, and total mixing without hydraulic losses. The calculations are made for a stationary, nonswlrling flow of a viscous heat conducting gas with nearly discontinuous step distribution of the total parameters at the entrance to an axisymmetric Laval nozzle of given geometry. In this situation, the gas flows with different total parameters at the entrance to the nozzle are separated by a surface near which the profiles of the flow parameters are specified on the basis of boundary-layer theory. In the blocked regime investigated here, the flow in the part where the nozzle becomes narrower and at least at the beginning of the expanding part does not depend on the pressure of the surrounding medium. The integrated characteristics of the nozzle (gas flow rate G, impulse I, specific impulse i = I/G, etc.) depend on the parameter distributions at the entrance to the nozzle, and also on the turbulent mixing of the flows in the mixing zone. To analyze the dependence of the integrated characteristics on the turbulent mixing, the values of these characteristics calculated in the framework of the three models are compared. The model of mixing without hydraulic losses presupposes complete equalization of the parameters of the original inhomogeneous flow in the constant-area chamber in front of the nozzle with conservation of the mass, energy, and momentum fluxes. The model of laminar hydraulics is described in detail in [1, 2]. The model of viscous laminar hydraulics will be described in Sec. 1.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 114–119, July–August, 1979.I thank A. N. Based on the existing energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMS) model for turbulent flow in pipe, an improved version is proposed, in which not only a new radial velocity distribution is introduced but also the quantification of total dissipation over the cross-section of pipe is improved for the dominant mechanism of fully turbulent flow in pipe. Then four dynamic equality constraints and some other constraints are constructed but there are five parameters involved, leading to one free variable left. Through the compromise in competition between dominant mechanisms for laminar and fully turbulent flow in pipe respectively, the above four constructed dynamic equality constraints can be closed. Finally, the cases for turbulent flow in pipe with low, moderate and high Reynolds number are simulated by the improved EMMS model. The numerical results show that the model can obtain reasonable results which agree well with the data computed by the direct numerical simulation and those obtained by experiment. This illustrates that the improved EMMS model for turbulent flow in pipe is reasonable and the compromise in competition between dominant mechanisms is indeed a universal governing principle hidden in complex systems. Especially, one more EMMS model for a complex system is offered, promoting the further development of mesoscience.  相似文献

A theoretical model of harmonic perturbations in a turbulent mixing layer is proposed. The model is based on the triple decomposition method. It is assumed that the instantaneous velocities and pressure consist of three distinctive components: the mean (time average), the coherent (phase average), and the random (turbulent) motion. The interaction between incoherent turbulent fluctuations and large-scale coherent disturbances is incorporated by the Newtonian eddy viscosity model. A slight divergence of the flow is also taken into account, and the results are compared with experimental data. For a high amplitude of the perturbations, the nonlinear feedback to the mean flow is taken into account by means of the coherent Reynolds stresses. The results reveal the possibility of a negative spreading rate of the mixing layer. A simultaneous consideration of the mean flow divergence and nonlinear self-interaction results in Landau-like amplitude equations. It is observed that the nonlinear term in the amplitude equation is not significant at the levels of amplitude considered. The velocity disturbance profiles of the second harmonic are also presented and, at low-level amplitude, they are in good agreement with experiments.  相似文献

A turbulent channel flow and the flow around a cubic obstacle are calculated by the moving particle semi‐implicit method with the subparticle‐scale turbulent model and a wall model, which is based on the zero equation RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier‐Stokes). The wall model is useful in practical problems that often involve high Reynolds numbers and wall turbulence, because it is difficult to keep high resolution in the near‐wall region in particle simulation. A turbulent channel flow is calculated by the present method to validate our wall model. The mean velocity distribution agrees with the log‐law velocity profile near the wall. Statistical values are also the same order and tendency as experimental results with emulating viscous layer by the wall model. We also investigated the influence of numerical oscillations on turbulence analysis in using the moving particle semi‐implicit method. Finally, the turbulent flow around a cubic obstacle is calculated by the present method to demonstrate capability of calculating practical turbulent flows. Three characteristic eddies appear in front of, over, and in the back of the cube both in our calculation and the experimental result that was obtained by Martinuzzi and Tropea. Mean velocity and turbulent intensity profiles are predicted in the same order and have similar tendency as the experimental result. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper we demonstrate the advantages of the LES-WALE model coupled with the PDF approach to resolve a set of aerothermochemistry equations for turbulent lean premixed prevaporized combustion. The main issue is the modeling of the closure in the turbulent combustion equations. So, combustion problems involve a strong coupling between dynamic and scalar parameters. The validation is based on comparisons of three parameters: mean longitudinal velocity, fluctuation of longitudinal velocity, and length of recirculation zones. In line with what was observed by an experimental reference study, the simulation succeeds to detect the flame zone and to model the flow morphology for different equivalence ratios and inlet mass flow rates.  相似文献

The majority of the studies which consider the flow of a dissociating gas in a turbulent boundary layer are devoted to the investigation of either frozen or equilibrium flows on a flat plate. The frozen turbulent boundary layer has been studied by Dorrance [1], Kutateladze and Leont'ev [2], and Lapin and Sergeev [3]. A study of the effect of catalytic recombination processes at the plate surface on the heat transfer in a frozen turbulent boundary layer was made by Lapin [4].Kosterin and Koshmarov [5], Ginzburg [6], Dorrance [7], and Lapin [8] have studied the turbulent boundary layer on a plate in equilibrium dissociating gas.The calculation of the heat transfer in a turbulent boundary layer on a catalytic plate surface with nonequilibrium dissociation was made by Kulgein [9]. In this study the nonequilibrium nature of the dissociation process was taken into account only in the laminar sublayer, while the flow in the turbulent core was considered frozen. The solution was found numerically using a computer by means of a laborious iteration process. The present paper reports a method for calculating the turbulent boundary layer on a flat catalytic plate with arbitrary dissociation rate. The method, constructed using the assumptions customary for turbulent boundary layer theory, is a successive approximation method. Good convergence of the method is assured by the fact that the effect of the nonequilibrium nature of the dissociation process on the parameter distribution in the boundary layer and, consequently, on the friction and heat transfer may be allowed for merely by finding corrections, usually relatively small, to the distribution of these parameters in the equilibrium or frozen flows. The basis of the study is the two-layer scheme of the turbulent boundary layer. The Prandtl and Schmidt numbers and also their turbulent analogs are taken equal to unity. As the model of the dissociating gas we use the Lighthill model of the ideal dissociating gas [10], extended by Freeman [11] to nonequilibrium flows.  相似文献
