The present work is part of a wider research program which concerns the aero-thermal characterization of cooling channels for the trailing edge of gas turbine blades. The selected passage model is characterized by a trapezoidal cross-section of high aspect-ratio and coolant discharge at the blade tip and along the wedge-shaped trailing edge, where seven elongated pedestals are also installed. In this contribution, a new channel configuration provided with inclined ribs installed inside the radial development region is analyzed, extending the previous results and completing the already available data base, thus providing an overall review of the aero-thermal performance of the considered passage. The velocity field inside the channel was measured by means of 2D and Stereo-PIV techniques in multiple flow planes under static and rotating conditions. The tests were performed under engine similar conditions with respect to both Reynolds (Re = 20,000) and Rotation (Ro = 0, 0.23) numbers. Time averaged flow fields and velocity fluctuation data inside the stationary and rotating channels are analyzed and also critically compared with the data acquired without ribs. In this way the effects on the flow field induced by both rotation and ribs are clearly described. In particular, the ribs modify substantially both the flow field on the channel walls where they are installed and the 3D separation structures that surround the pedestals. If also rotation is taken into account, the relative flow field is characterized by a considerable guiding effect of the ribs coupled with a stronger flow separation on the obstacles that further enhances the heat transfer performances. This behavior was confirmed exploiting the wide thermal data base already available, obtaining a direct link between the observed flow features and the heat transfer performances.  相似文献

This paper experimentally investigated the effect of rotating on the turbulent boundary layer flow using hot-wire. The experiments were completed in a rotating rig with a vertical axis and four measured positions along the streamwise direction in channel, which focuses on the flow flied in the rotating channel. The rotating effects on velocity profile, wall shear stress and semi-logarithmic mean velocity profile are discussed in this paper. The results indicated that: due to the Coriolis force induced by rotating, the phenomenon of velocity deficit happens near the leading side. The velocity deficit near the leading side, do not increase monotonically with the increase of Ro. The trend of the velocity deficit near the leading side is also affected by the normal component of pressure gradient, which is another important force in the cross-section of the rotating channel. The wall shear stress near the trailing side is larger than that on the leading side, and the semi-logarithmic mean velocity profile is also different under rotating effects. The phenomenon reveals that the effect of rotation penetrates into the logarithm region, and the flow near the leading side tends to turn into laminar under the effect of rotation. The rotation correction of logarithmic law is performed in current work, which can be used in the wall function of CFD to increase the simulating accuracy at rotating conditions.  相似文献

The flow around a trailing edge is computed with a new hybrid method designed to more clearly separate the effects of total and sub-grid turbulent stress-modelling on the time-averaged and instantaneous velocity fields, and in turn, mean momentum and kinetic energy balances. These two velocity fields independently define Reynolds averaged and sub-grid-scale viscosities, and distinct stresses, at the same location. In particular, resolved eddies can emerge, or sweep in and out of the Reynolds averaged near wall layer, without being dampened by higher levels of the viscosity in this RANS dominated layer. The two-field hybrid model, first tested on channel flows, gives accurate predictions of mean velocities and stresses for different Reynolds numbers and coarse meshes. For the trailing edge flow the results of the hybrid model are close to the reference fine LES for mean velocity and turbulent content, whereas the DES-SST on the same coarse mesh gives too early separation.  相似文献

The flow characteristics of the propeller wake behind a container ship model with a rotating propeller were investigated using a two-frame PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. Ensemble-averaged mean velocity fields were measured at four different blade phases and ensemble-averaged to investigate the flow structure in the near-wake region. The mean velocity fields in longitudinal planes show that a velocity deficit is formed in the regions near the blade tips and hub. As the flow develops in the downstream direction, the trailing vortices formed behind the propeller hub move upward slightly due to the presence of the hull wake and free surface. Interaction between the bilge vortices and the incoming flow around the hull causes the flow structure to be asymmetric. Contour plots of the vorticity give information on the radial distribution of the loading on the blades. The radial velocity profiles fluctuate to a greater extent under the heavy (J=0.59) and light loading (J=0.88) conditions than under the design loading condition (J=0.72). The turbulence intensity has large values around the tip and trailing vortices. As the wake develops in the downstream direction, the strength of the vorticity diminishes and the turbulence intensity increases due to turbulent diffusion and active mixing between the tip vortices and the adjacent wake flow.  相似文献

In this paper, the effects of multiple dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuators on the leakage flow structures and loss conditions have been numerically studied in an axial turbine cascade. Kriging surrogate model is adopted to obtain the optimal cases. The physical mechanism of flow structures inside the gap that control leakage flow is presented, which is obtained by analyzing the flow topology, the evolution of the flow structures and its influence on the secondary velocity and loss conditions in the passage as well. The results show that the induced vortex caused by DBD actuators can change the leakage flow direction inside the tip gap and make the separation bubble break earlier, leading to a new type of the flow pattern. When the actuators are applied, the speed of leakage flow is significantly reduced and the angle between leakage flow and main flow has an obviously diminution, causing the reduction of mixing losses in the passage compared with the Baseline case. Furthermore, the comparison of secondary velocity shows that the tip leakage vortex (TLV) approaches the suction surface, resulting in reduced affected area and weakened loss strength. Plasma actuators can diminish the loss coefficient in both TLV and passage vortex near the casing (PVC) zones. The actuators arranged near the trailing edge mainly affect the strength of TLV, while the actuators in the leading edge area contribute to the loss reduction in the zone of PVC.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow behaviour in a smooth rotating channel with heated walls is measured by particle image velocimetry (PIV). To simulate the real operation environment of an internal coolant channel in a turbine blade, airflow is analysed in a rotating channel, whose four walls are uniformly heated by Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) glass. The flow is measured in the middle plane of the rotating channel with a Reynolds number equal to 10000 and rotation numbers ranging from 0 to 0.52. The results are presented for the boundary layer flow behaviour with and without heated thermal boundary conditions. The buoyancy force generated by the heated walls influences the flow behaviour under rotating conditions. Separated flow occurs, which substantially influences the turbulent flow behaviours. Sometimes, this buoyancy force can determine the flow behaviours. The results also showed that the displacement thickness and the momentum loss thickness present new changes at different radius positions due to the heated thermal boundary conditions. The displacement thicknesses of both the leading and trailing sides with heated walls are both thicker than those of the leading and trailing sides without heated walls. Then, the difference of the boundary layer thickness between these two cases increases with the increase of rotation number. For momentum loss thickness, a sharp drop happens when the rotation number increases to a certain value. At the large radius position, the drop in momentum loss thickness is much greater than that in the small radius position.  相似文献

Commercial and military aircrafts or miniature aerial vehicles can suffer from massive flow separation when high angles of attack are required. Single dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) actuators have demonstrated their capability of controlling such a separated flow at low external velocity. However, the processes resulting in the improvement of the flight performances remain unclear. In the present study, the reattachment process along the suction side of a NACA 0015 placed at an angle of attack of 16° is experimentally investigated for an external velocity of 20 m/s (Re = 260,000). A single DBD actuator is mounted at the leading edge of the model. The velocity fields above the suction side of the airfoil are measured by a high-speed acquisition system (3 kHz). The results indicate that the baseline flow presents shed vortices that form at the leading edge and linearly grow along the free shear layer axis. This vortex shedding is organized and exhibits a specific frequency of about 90 Hz. The continuous actuation produces a partial flow reattachment up to 70% of the chord length. Temporal cross-correlation function indicates the presence of a vortex shedding at the trailing edge of the controlled flow. Finally, the temporal analysis demonstrates that the reattachment process requires 50 ms to reach a stabilized attached flow. The time-resolved analysis of the reattachment suggests that the actuation by plasma discharge acts as a catalyser by reinforcing one of the coherent flow structures already existing in the natural flow.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of surface roughness on cloud cavitation around Clark-Y hydrofoils. High-speed video and particle image velocimetry(PIV) were used to obtain cavitation patterns images(Prog. Aerosp. Sci. 37: 551–581, 2001), as well as velocity and vorticity fields. Results are presented for cloud cavitating conditions around a Clark-Y hydrofoil fixed at angle of attack of α = 8?for moderate Reynolds number of Re = 5.6 × 10~5. The results show that roughness had a great influence on the pattern, velocity and vorticity distribution of cloud cavitation. For cavitating flow around a smooth hydrofoil(A) and a rough hydrofoil(B), cloud cavitation occurred in the form of finger-like cavities and attached subulate cavities, respectively. The period of cloud cavitation around hydrofoil A was shorter than for hydrofoil B.Surface roughness had a great influence on the process of cloud cavitation. The development of cloud cavitation around hydrofoil A consisted of two stages:(1) Attached cavities developed along the surface to the trailing edge;(2) A reentrant jet developed, resulting in shedding and collapse of cluster bubbles or vortex structure. Meanwhile, its development for hydrofoil B included three stages:(1) Attached cavities developed along the surface to the trailing edge, with accumulation and rotation of bubbles at the trailing edge of the hydrofoil affecting the flow field;(2) Development of a reentrant jet resulted in the first shedding of cavities. Interaction and movement of flows from the pressure side and suction side brought liquid water from the pressure side to the suction side of the hydrofoil, finally forming a reentrant jet. The jet kept moving along the surface to the leading edge of the hydrofoil, resulting in large-scale shedding of cloud bubbles. Several vortices appeared and dissipated during the process;(3) Cavities grew and shed again.  相似文献

A stereoscopic PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique was used to measure the three-dimensional flow structure of the turbulent wake behind a marine propeller with five blades. The out-of-plane velocity component was determined using two CCD cameras with an angular displacement configuration. Four hundred instantaneous velocity fields were measured for each of four different blade phases, and ensemble averaged in order to find the spatial evolution of the propeller wake in the region from the trailing edge up to one propeller diameter (D) downstream. The influence of propeller loading conditions on the wake structure was also investigated by measuring the velocity fields at three advance ratios (J=0.59, 0.72 and 0.88). The phase-averaged velocity fields revealed that a viscous wake formed by the boundary layers developed along the blade surfaces. Tip vortices were generated periodically and the slipstream contracted in the near-wake region. The out-of-plane velocity component and strain rate had large values at the locations of the tip and trailing vortices. As the flow moved downstream, the turbulence intensity, the strength of the tip vortices, and the magnitude of the out-of-plane velocity component at trailing vortices all decreased due to effects such as viscous dissipation, turbulence diffusion, and blade-to-blade interaction.  相似文献

Detailed measurements of two-dimensional profiles of static pressure, mean velocity, turbulence intensity and Reynolds shear stress were carried out with conventional pressure probes and hot wire probes at preselected streamwise stations in the boundary layer and wake of a 12.5% thick, 600 mm chord two-dimensional symmetric aerofoil mounted at zero incidence in a low speed wind tunnel. The chord Reynolds number was one million and the wake measurements extended up to three chord lengths (or nearly 660 trailing edge momentum thicknesses) downstream of the trailing edge. The data indicate rapid interaction of the wall layers immediately behind the trailing edge, leading to significant changes in the flow parameters close to the trailing edge. The relaxation of the wake is preceded by initial ‘overshoot’ in the streamwise profiles of mean-flow parameters and peak values of turbulence components. Further growth of the wake towards similarity/equilibrium is discussed.  相似文献

This paper reports an experimental investigation of the vortex shedding wake behind a long flat plate inclined at a small angle of attack to a main flow stream. Detailed velocity fields are obtained with particle-image velocimetry (PIV) at successive phases in a vortex shedding cycle at three angles of attack, α=20°, 25° and 30°, at a Reynolds number Re≈5,300. Coherent patterns and dynamics of the vortices in the wake are revealed by the phase-averaged PIV vectors and derived turbulent properties. A vortex street pattern comprising a train of leading edge vortices alternating with a train of trailing edge vortices is found in the wake. The trailing edge vortex is shed directly from the sharp trailing edge while there are evidences that the formation and shedding of the leading edge vortex involve a more complicated mechanism. The leading edge vortex seems to be shed into the wake from an axial location near the trailing edge. After shedding, the vortices are convected downstream in the wake with a convection speed roughly equal to 0.8 the free-stream velocity. On reaching the same axial location, the trailing edge vortex, as compared to the leading edge vortex, is found to possess a higher peak vorticity level at its centre and induce more intense fluid circulation and Reynolds stresses production around it. It is found that the results at the three angles of attack can be collapsed into similar trends by using the projected plate width as the characteristic length of the flow.  相似文献

The formation of a laminar wake in the flow behind a shock wave when the latter is shed from the trailing edge of a semi-infinite plate is investigated in this paper. It is shown that the flow on the plate and in the wake turns out to be self-similar, dependent on two dimensionless combinations of variables, and the flow on the plate, including the trailing edge, remains steady in a coordinate system coupled to the shock wave (the fact of the flow self-similarity in the wake was first noted in [1]). An analytic solution of the problem of the wake in the neighborhood of the trailing edge is obtained, from which it follows that, in contrast to [2], there is no line of singularities in the nonstationary boundary-layer equations in the flow domain. This fact is also verified by the analysis of the flow in the neighborhood of a line of tagged particles leaving the trailing edge simultaneously with the shock wave. Hence the problem under consideration is solved by the traditional numerical methods using conditions in the initial section (which is taken to be the section in the neighborhood of the trailing edge), on the wake axis, and at an infinite distance away. Approximate formulas are obtained for the longitudinal velocity profiles in the whole range of shock-wave intensities.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 59–66, July–August, 1978.

The development of flow kinematics and fiber orientation distribution from the parabolic velocity profile and isotropic orientation at the channel inlet was computed in multi-disperse suspension flow through a parallel plate channel and their predictions were compared with those of mono- and bi-disperse suspensions. A statistical scheme (orientations of a large number of fibers are evaluated from the solution of the Jeffery equation along the streamlines) was confirmed to be very useful and feasible method to analyze accurately the orientation distribution of fibers in multi-disperse fiber suspension flow as well as mono- and bi-dispersions, instead of direct solutions of the orientation distribution function of fibers or the evolution equation of the orientation tensor which involves a closure equation. It was found that the flow kinematics and the fiber orientation depend completely on both the fiber aspect-ratio and the fiber parameter for multi-disperse suspension when the fiber–fiber and fiber-wall interactions are neglected. Furthermore, the addition of large aspect-ratio fibers as well as an increase in the fiber parameter related to the large aspect-ratio fibers could suppress the complex velocity field and stress distributions which are observed in suspensions containing small aspect-ratio fibers. From a practical point of view, therefore, the mechanical and physical properties of fiber composites should be improved with an increase in the volume fraction of large aspect-ratio fibers.  相似文献

The interaction of turbulent flows with the external structure of ground vehicles generates uncomfortable noise and a lot of attention is devoted to find new mechanisms for its suppression. The present work is concerned with open cavity flows, very often found in the automotive industry. A three-dimensional rectangular very wide open cavity with aspect ratio \(L/D=4\) at Reynolds number \(Re_D=5000\) and Mach number \(M=0.1\) is considered. The passive control technique is based on eight different geometrical modifications: the length of the cavity, the radius of the trailing, leading and bottom edges and the difference in heights between the left and right wall of the cavity. Wall-resolved Large Eddy Simulations (LES) are used to obtain the flow fields and a post-process based on Curle’s analogy is applied to evaluate the acoustic radiation and the effectiveness of the control mechanisms. The results show that the modifications on the trailing edge are the most effective to control the flow. They allow to reduce the pressure fluctuations produced by the recirculation confined inside the cavity and the abrupt ejection of the flow at the trailing edge. As a consequence, the overall sound pressure level can be decreased up to 9 dB.

A new facility for time-resolved PIV measurements in rotating channels   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
A new facility to measure the time evolution of 2D velocity fields in a rotating channel is presented, and the accuracy is discussed in detail. Measurements are made by means of a time-resolved PIV system composed of a continuous laser diode, coupled by a fiber optics cable to a laser plane optical module, and a CMOS high-speed camera. Both the PIV system and divergent channel are fixed on a 2.5 m rotating disk. This allows a direct measurement of the relative velocity of flows with Reynolds numbers between 3 × 103 and 3 × 104 and Rotation numbers between 0.0 and 0.52. These values correspond to the flow conditions in small radial impellers and can be independently adjusted by a change of the relative flow velocity and RPM. It is shown that this new facility allows high signal-to-noise ratios, and that the direct acquisition of the data in a rotating frame drastically reduces the measurement error. The accuracy and high spatial and temporal resolution of the measurements allow a detailed analysis of boundary layer characteristics in stationary and rotating conditions.

The unsteady lift generated by turbulence at the trailing edge of an airfoil is a source of radiated sound. The objective of the present research was to measure the velocity field in the near wake region of an asymmetric beveled trailing edge in order to determine the flow mechanisms responsible for the generation of trailing edge noise. Two component velocity measurements were acquired using particle image velocimetry. The chord Reynolds number was 1.9 × 106. The data show velocity field realizations that were typical of a wake flow containing an asymmetric periodic vortex shedding. A phase average decomposition of the velocity field with respect to this shedding process was utilized to separate the large scale turbulent motions that occurred at the vortex shedding frequency (i.e., those responsible for the production of tonal noise) from the smaller scale turbulent motions, which were interpreted to be responsible for the production of broadband sound. The small scale turbulence was found to be dependent on the phase of the vortex shedding process implying a dependence of the broadband sound generated by the trailing edge on the phase of the vortex shedding process.  相似文献

Motivated by the unsteady force generation of flying animals, vortex formation and vorticity transport processes around small aspect-ratio translating and rotating plates with a high angle of attack are investigated. Defocusing Digital Particle Image Velocimetry was employed to explore the structure and dynamics of the vortex generated by the plates. For both translating and rotating cases, we observe the presence of a spanwise flow over the plate and the consequent effect of vorticity transport due to the tilting of the leading-edge vortex. While the spanwise flow is confined inside the leading-edge vortex for the translating case, it is widely present over the plate and the wake region of the rotating case. The distribution of the spanwise flow is a prominent distinction between the vortex structures of these two cases. As the Reynolds number decreases, due to the increase in viscosity, the leading-edge and tip vortices tend to spread inside the area swept by the rotating plate. The different vorticity distributions of the low and high Reynolds number cases are consistent with the difference in measured lift forces, which is confirmed using the vorticity moment theory.  相似文献
