The responses and codimension-one bifurcations in Masing-type andBouc–Wen hysteretic oscillators are investigated. The pertinent statespace is formulated for each system and the periodic orbits are soughtas the fixed points of an appropriate Poincaré map. The implementedpath-following scheme is a pseudo-arclength algorithm based on arclengthparameterization. The eigenvalues of the Jacobian of the map, calculatedvia a finite-difference scheme, are used to ascertain the stability andbifurcations of the periodic steady-state solutions. Frequency-responsecurves for various excitation levels are constructed consideringrepresentative hysteresis loop shapes generated with the two models inthe primary and superharmonic frequency ranges. In addition to knownbehaviors, a rich class of solutions and bifurcations, mostly unexpectedfor hysteretic oscillators – including jump phenomena,symmetry-breaking, complete period-doubling cascades, fold, andsecondary Hopf – is found. Complex (mode-locked) periodic andnonperiodic responses are also investigated thereby allowing to draw amore comprehensive picture of the dynamical behavior exhibited by thesesystems.  相似文献

This paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics of a doubly clamped piezoelectric nanobeam subjected to a combined AC and DC loadings in the presence of three-to-one internal resonance. Surface effects are taken into account in the governing equation of motion to incorporate the associated size effects at nanoscales. The reduced-order model equation (ROM) is obtained based on the Galerkin method. The multiple scales method is applied directly to the nonlinear equation of motion and associated boundary conditions to obtain the modulation equations. The equilibrium solutions of the modulation equations and the dynamic solutions of the ROM equation are investigated in the case of primary and principal parametric resonances of the first mode. Stability, bifurcations and frequency response curves of the nanobeam are investigated. Dynamic behaviors of the motion are shown in the form of time traces, phase portraits, Poincare sections and fast Fourier transforms. The results indicate rich dynamic behaviors such as Hopf bifurcations, periodic and quasiperiodic motions in both directly and indirectly excited modes illustrating the influence of modal interactions on the response.  相似文献

A Rayleigh–Liénard oscillator excited by a fundamentalresonance is investigated by using an asymptotic perturbation method based on Fourier expansion and time rescaling. Two first-order nonlinear ordinarydifferential equations governing the modulation of the amplitude andthe phase of solutions are derived. These equations are used todetermine steady-state responses and their stability. Excitationamplitude-response and frequency-response curves are shown and checkedby numerical integration. Dulac's criterion, the Poincaré–Bendixsontheorem, and energy considerations are used in order to study the existenceand characteristics of limit cycles of the two modulation equations. Alimit cycle corresponds to a modulated motion for the Rayleigh–Liénardoscillator. For small excitation amplitude, the analytical results arein excellent agreement with the numerical solutions. In certain caseswhen the excitation amplitude is very low, an approximate analyticsolution corresponding to a modulated motion can be obtained andnumerically checked. Moreover, if the excitation amplitude is increased,an infinite-period bifurcation occurs because the modulation periodlengthens and becomes infinite, while the modulation amplitude remainsfinite and suddenly the attractor settles down into a periodic motion.  相似文献

Three nonlinear integro-differential equations of motion derived in Part I are used to investigate the forced nonlinear vibration of a symmetrically laminated graphite-epoxy composite beam. The analysis focuses on the case of primary resonance of the first in-plane flexural (chordwise) mode when its frequency is approximately twice the frequency of the first out-of-plane flexural-torsional (flapwise-torsional) mode. A combination of the fundamental-matrix method and the method of multiple scales is used to derive four first-order ordinary-differential equations describing the modulation of the amplitudes and phases of the interacting modes with damping, nonlinearity, and resonances. The eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix of the modulation equations are used to determine the stability of their constant solutions, and Floquet theory is used to determine the stability and bifurcations of their limit-cycle solutions. Hopf bifurcations, symmetry-breaking bifurcations, period-multiplying sequences, and chaotic motions of the modulation equations are studied. The results show that the motion can be nonplanar although the input force is planar. Nonplanar responses may be periodic, periodically modulated, or chaotically modulated motions.  相似文献

Nonlinear Nonplanar Dynamics of Parametrically Excited Cantilever Beams   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The nonlinear nonplanar response of cantilever inextensional metallic beams to a principal parametric excitation of two of its flexural modes, one in each plane, is investigated. The lowest torsional frequencies of the beams considered are much larger than the frequencies of the excited modes so that the torsional inertia can be neglected. Using this condition as well as the inextensionality condition, we develop a Lagrangian whose variation leads to two integro-partial-differential equations governing the motions of the beams. The method of time-averaged Lagrangian is used to derive four first-order nonlinear ordinary-differential equations governing the modulation of the amplitudes and phases of the two interacting modes. These modulation equations exhibit symmetry properties. A pseudo arclength scheme is used to trace the branches of the equilibrium solutions and an investigation of the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix is used to assess their stability. The equilibrium solutions experience pitchfork, saddle-node, Hopf, and codimension-2 bifurcations. A detailed bifurcation analysis of the dynamic solutions of the modulation equations is presented. Five branches of dynamic (periodic and chaotic) solutions were found. Two of these branches emerge from two Hopf bifurcations and the other three are isolated. The limit cycles undergo symmetry-breaking, cyclic-fold, and period-doubling bifurcations, whereas the chaotic attractors undergo attractor-merging and boundary crises.  相似文献

A parametrically excited Rayleigh–Liénard oscillator is investigatedby an asymptotic perturbation method based on Fourier expansion and timerescaling. Two coupled equations for the amplitude and the phase ofsolutions are derived and the stability of steady-state periodic solutionsas well as parametric excitation-response and frequency-response curvesare determined. Comparison with the parametrically excited Liénardoscillator is performed and analytic approximate solutions are checkedusing numerical integration. Dulac's criterion, thePoincaré–Bendixson theorem, and energy considerations are used in order to study the existence and characteristics of limit cycles of the twocoupled equations. A limit cycle corresponds to a modulated motion forthe Rayleigh–Liénard oscillator. Modulated motion can be also obtainedfor very low values of the parametric excitation, and in this case, anapproximate analytic solution is easily constructed. If the parametricexcitation is increased, an infinite-period bifurcation is observed because the modulation period lengthens and becomes infinite, while themodulation amplitude remains finite and suddenly the attractor settlesdown into a periodic motion. Floquet's theory is used to evaluatethe stability of the periodic solutions, and in certain cases,symmetry-breaking bifurcations are predicted. Numerical simulationsconfirm this scenario and detect chaos and unbounded motions in theinstability regions of the periodic solutions.  相似文献

The nonlinear equations of motion derived in Part I are used to investigate the response of an inextensional, symmetric angle-ply graphite-epoxy beam to a harmonic base-excitation along the flapwise direction. The equations contain bending-twisting couplings and quadratic and cubic nonlinearities due to curvature and inertia. The analysis focuses on the case of primary resonance of the first flexural-torsional (flapwise-torsional) mode when its frequency is approximately one-half the frequency of the first out-of-plane flexural (chordwide) mode. A combination of the fundamental-matrix method and the method of multiple scales is used to derive four first-order ordinary-differential equations to describe the time variation of the amplitudes and phases of the interacting modes with damping, nonlinearity, and resonances. The eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix of the modulation equations are used to determine the stability and bifurcations of their constant solutions, and Floquet theory is used to determine the stability and bifurcations of their limit-cycle solutions. Hopf bifurcations, symmetry-breaking bifurcations, period-multiplying sequences, and chaotic solutions of the modulation equations are studied. Chaotic solutions are identified from their frequency spectra, Poincaré sections, and Lyapunov's exponents. The results show that the beam motion may be nonplanar although the input force is planar. Nonplanar responses may be periodic, periodically modulated, or chaotically modulated motions.  相似文献

Frictional oscillations under the action of almost periodic force are studied. The modulation equations are derived by the multiple scales method to study bifurcations behavior. Heteroclinic Melnikov function is constructed to obtain the region of chaotic solutions of these equations. Bifurcations of almost periodic orbits are studied by Van der Pol transformation and averaging procedure.  相似文献

We extend the asymptotic perturbation (AP) method to the studyof a linear partial differential equation with nonlinear boundaryconditions. A relief valve under the combined effects of static anddynamic loadings is considered with the following resonances between thenth linear mode and the external periodic excitation: primaryresonance, subharmonic resonance of order one-half or one-third,superharmonic resonance of order-two or order-three and combinationresonance. The AP method uses two different procedures for thesolutions: introducing an asymptotic temporal rescaling and balancing ofthe harmonic terms with a simple iteration. We obtain amplitude andphase modulation equations and determine external force-response andfrequency-response curves. Stability of steady-state motions is alsoinvestigated. Saddle-node bifurcations of cycles are observed and underappropriate conditions the performance of the relief valve may beunsatisfactory due to the presence of jumps and hysteresis effects inthe system response. Global analysis is used in order to exclude theexistence of modulated motion. The validity of the method is highlightedby comparing approximate solutions with results of the numericalintegration.  相似文献

Donnell equations are used to simulate free nonlinear oscillations of cylindrical shells with imperfections. The expansion, which consists of two conjugate modes and axisymmetric one, is used to analyze shell oscillations. Amplitudes of the axisymmetric motions are assumed significantly smaller, than the conjugate modes amplitudes. Nonlinear normal vibrations mode, which is determined by shell imperfections, is analyzed. The stability and bifurcations of this mode are studied by the multiple scales method. It is discovered that stable quasiperiodic motions appear at the bifurcations points. The forced oscillations of circular cylindrical shells in the case of two internal resonances and the principle resonance are analyzed too. The multiple scales method is used to obtain the system of six modulation equations. The method for stability analysis of standing waves is suggested. The continuation algorithm is used to analyze fixed points of the system of the modulation equations.  相似文献

In this paper, the periodic motions of a nonlinear system with quadratic, cubic, and parametrically excited stiffness terms and with time-delayterms are obtained by the incremental harmonic balance (IHB) method. Theelements of the Jacobian matrix and residue vector arising in the IHBformulation are derived in closed form. A mechanism model representingthe one-mode oscillation of beams and plates is considered as anexample. A path-following algorithm with an arc-length parametriccontinuation procedure is used to obtain the response diagrams. Thesystem also exhibits chaotic motion through a cascade of period-doublingbifurcations, which is characterized by phase planes, Poincaré sectionsand Lyapunov exponents. The interpolated cell mapping (ICM) procedure isused to obtain the initial condition map corresponding to multiplesteady-state solutions.  相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear response of an infinitely long, circularcylindrical shell to a primary-resonance excitation of one of itsflexural modes, which is involved in a one-to-two internal resonancewith the breathing mode. The excited flexural mode is involved in aone-to-one internal resonance with its orthogonal flexural mode. Thereare two simultaneous internal (autoparametric) resonances: two-to-oneand one-to-one. The method of multiple scales is directly applied to thepartial-differential equations to obtain a system of six first-ordernonlinear ordinary-differential equations governing modulation of theamplitudes and phases of the three interacting modes. In the absence ofdamping, the modulation equations are derivable from a Lagrangian, reflecting the conservative nature of the system. The modulationequations are used to study the equilibrium and dynamic solutions andtheir stability and hence their bifurcations. The response may be eithera two-mode or a three-mode solution. For certain excitation parameters, the equilibrium three-mode solutions undergo Hopf bifurcations. Acombination of a shooting technique and Floquet theory is used tocalculate limit cycles and their stability, and hence theirbifurcations.  相似文献

The subharmonic resonance and bifurcations of a clamped-clamped buckled beam under base harmonic excitations are investigated. The nonlinear partial integrodifferential equation of the motion of the buckled beam with both quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is given by using Hamilton's principle. A set of second-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations are obtained by spatial discretization with the Galerkin method. A high-dimensional model of the buckled beam is derived, concerning nonlinear coupling. The incremental harmonic balance (IHB) method is used to achieve the periodic solutions of the high-dimensional model of the buckled beam to observe the nonlinear frequency response curve and the nonlinear amplitude response curve, and the Floquet theory is used to analyze the stability of the periodic solutions. Attention is focused on the subharmonic resonance caused by the internal resonance as the excitation frequency near twice of the first natural frequency of the buckled beam with/without the antisymmetric modes being excited. Bifurcations including the saddle-node, Hopf, perioddoubling, and symmetry-breaking bifurcations are observed. Furthermore, quasi-periodic motion is observed by using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method, which results from the Hopf bifurcation of the response of the buckled beam with the anti-symmetric modes being excited.  相似文献

The nonlinear vibrations of a composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate subjected to the in-plane and transversal excitations are investigated in this paper. Based on the Reddy??s third-order plate theory and the von Karman type equations for the geometric nonlinearity, the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of motion for the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate are established by using the Hamilton??s principle. The Galerkin approach is used to transform the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of motion into a two degree-of-freedom nonlinear system under combined parametric and forcing excitations. The case of foundational parametric resonance and 1:1 internal resonance is taken into account. The method of multiple scales is utilized to obtain the four-dimensional averaged equation. The numerical method is used to find the periodic and chaotic motions of the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate. It is found that the chaotic responses are sensitive to the changing of the forcing excitations and the damping coefficient. The influence of the forcing excitation and the damping coefficient on the bifurcations and chaotic behaviors of the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate is investigated numerically. The frequency-response curves of the first-order and the second-order modes show that there exists the soft-spring type characteristic for the first-order and the second-order modes.  相似文献

Three-to-One Internal Resonances in Hinged-Clamped Beams   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
Chin  Char-Ming  Nayfeh  Ali H. 《Nonlinear dynamics》1997,12(2):129-154
The nonlinear planar response of a hinged-clamped beam to a primary excitation of either its first mode or its second mode is investigated. The analysis accounts for mid-plane stretching, a static axial load and a restraining spring at one end, and modal damping. For a range of axial loads, the second natural frequency is approximately three times the first natural frequency and hence the first and second modes may interact due to a three-to-one internal resonance. The method of multiple scales is used to attack directly the governing nonlinear partial-differential equation and derive two sets of four first-order nonlinear ordinary-differential equations describing the modulation of the amplitudes and phases of the first two modes in the case of primary resonance of either the first or the second mode. Periodic motions and periodically and chaotically modulated motions of the beam are determined by investigating the equilibrium and dynamic solutions of the modulation equations. For the case of primary resonance of the first mode, only two-mode solutions are possible, whereas for the case of primary resonance of the second mode, single- and two-mode solutions are possible. The two-mode equilibrium solutions of the modulation equations may undergo a supercritical or a subcritical Hopf bifurcation, depending on the magnitude of the axial load. A shooting technique is used to calculate limit cycles of the modulation equations and Floquet theory is used to ascertain their stability. The limit cycles correspond to periodically modulated motions of the beam. The limit cycles are found to undergo cyclic-fold bifurcations and period-doubling bifurcations, leading to chaos. The chaotic attractors may undergo boundary crises, resulting in the destruction of the chaotic attractors and their basins of attraction.  相似文献

Nonlinear vibrations of FGM rectangular plates in thermal environments   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Geometrically nonlinear vibrations of FGM rectangular plates in thermal environments are investigated via multi-modal energy approach. Both nonlinear first-order shear deformation theory and von Karman theory are used to model simply supported FGM plates with movable edges. Using Lagrange equations of motion, the energy functional is reduced to a system of infinite nonlinear ordinary differential equations with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. A pseudo-arclength continuation and collocation scheme is used and it is revealed that, in order to obtain the accurate natural frequency in thermal environments, an analysis based on the full nonlinear model is unavoidable since the plate loses its original flat configuration due to thermal loads. The effect of temperature variations as well as volume fraction exponent is discussed and it is illustrated that thermally deformed FGM plates have stronger hardening behaviour; on the other hand, the effect of volume fraction exponent is not significant, but modal interactions may rise in thermally deformed FGM plates that could not be seen in their undeformed isotropic counterparts. Moreover, a bifurcation analysis is carried out using Gear’s backward differentiation formula (BDF); bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps and maximum Lyapunov exponents are obtained in order to detect and classify bifurcations and complex nonlinear dynamics.  相似文献

The paper presents a study on the validity of perturbation methods, suchas the method of multiple scales, the Lindstedt–Poincaré method and soon, in seeking for the periodic motions of the delayed dynamic systemsthrough an example of a Duffing oscillator with delayed velocityfeedback. An important observation in the paper is that the method ofmultiple scales, which has been widely used in nonlinear dynamics, worksonly for the approximate solutions of the first two orders, and givesrise to a paradox for the third-order approximate solutions of delaydifferential equations. The same problem appears when theLindstedt–Poincaré method is implemented to find the third-orderapproximation of periodic solutions for delay differential equations, though it is effective in seeking for any order approximation ofperiodic solutions for nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Apossible explanation to the paradox is given by the results obtained byusing the method of harmonic balance. The paper also indicates thatthese perturbation methods, despite of some shortcomings, are stilleffective in analyzing the dynamics of a delayed dynamic system sincethe approximate solutions of the first two orders already enable one togain an insight into the primary dynamics of the system.  相似文献

We analyze a modified van der Pol–Duffing electronic circuit, modeled by a tridimensional autonomous system of differential equations with Z2-symmetry. Linear codimension-one and two bifurcations of equilibria give rise to several dynamical behaviours, including periodic, homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits. The local analysis provides, in first approximation, the different bifurcation sets. These local results are used as a guide to apply the adequate numerical methods to obtain a global understanding of the bifurcation sets. The study of the normal form of the Hopf bifurcation shows the presence of cusps of saddle-node bifurcations of periodic orbits. The existence of a codimension-four Hopf bifurcation is also pointed out. In the case of the Takens–Bogdanov bifurcation, several degenerate situations of codimension-three are analyzed in both homoclinic and heteroclinic cases. The existence of a Hopf–Shil'nikov singularity is also shown.  相似文献
