CTOA and crack-tunneling measurements in thin sheet 2024-T3 aluminum alloy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The stable tearing behavior of 2.3-mm thick sheets of 2024-T3 aluminum alloy was experimentally investigated for middle crack tension specimens having initial flaws that were: (a) flat fatigue cracks (low fatigue stress) and (b) 45-deg through-thickness slant cracks (high fatigue stress). The critical CTOA values during stable tearing were measured by two independent methods, optical microscopy and digital-image correlation. Results from the two methods agree well.The CTOA measurements and observations of the fracture surfaces have shown that the initial stable tearing behavior of low and high fatigue stress tests is significantly different. The cracks in the low fatigue stress tests underwent a transition from flat-to-slant crack growth, during which the CTOA values were high and significant crack tunneling occurred. After crack growth equal to about the thickness (a>B), CTOA reached a constant value of 6 deg and after crack growth equal to about twice the thickness (a>2B), crack tunneling stabilized. The cracks in the high fatigue stress tests reach the same constant CTOA value after crack growth equal to about the thickness, but produced only slightly higher CTOA values during initial crack growth. The amount of tunneling in the high fatigue stress tests was about the same as that in the low fatigue stress tests after the flat-to-slant transition.This study indicates that stress history has an influence on the initial portion of the stable tearing behavior. The initial high CTOA values, in the low fatigue crack tests, coincided with large three-dimensional crack front shape changes due to a variation in the through-thickness crack-tip constraint. The measured CTOA reached a constant value of 6 deg for crack growth of about the specimen thickness. This coincided with the onset of 45-deg slant crack growth and a stabilized, slightly tunneled (about 20 percent of the thickness) crack-front shape. For crack growth on the 45-deg slant, the crack front and local field variables are still highly three dimensional.  相似文献

In this paper, the fatigue and fracture properties of bovine dentin are evaluated usingin vitro experimental analyses. Double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens were prepared from bovine maxillary molars and subjected to zeroto-tension cyclic loads. The fatigue crack growth rate was evaluated as a function of the dentin tubule orientation using the Paris law. Wedge-loaded DCB specimens were also prepared and subjected to monotonic opening loads. Moiré interferometry was used to acquire the in-plane displacement field during stable crack growth, and the instantaneous wedge load and crack length were acquired to evaluate the crack growth resistance and crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) with crack extension. The rate of fatigue crack growth was generally larger for crack propagation occurring perpendicular to the dentin tubules. The Moiré fringe fields documented during monotonic crack growth exhibited non-linear deformation occurring within a confined region adjacent to the crack tip. Both the wedge load and CTOD response provided evidence that a fracture process zone contributes to energy dissipation during crack extension and that dentin exhibits a risingR-curve behavior. Results from this preliminary investigation are being used as a guide for an evaluation of the fatigue and fracture properties of human dentin.  相似文献

阐述了用实验确定在常温及静载和动载条件下韧性撕裂在三种管线钢材中传播时的断裂比能值。实验中采用了销钉加载双面开槽的双悬脊梁(DCB)试件。应用能量平衡法对实验结果进行了分析。考察了加载速率和试件厚度对撕裂韧性的影响。结果表明,管线钢材对韧性撕裂传播的阻力在动载条件下增大,对较薄的试件及应变率敏感性较高的材料其增大更为明显。对于纯剪切断裂的传播来说,撕裂韧性一般随试件厚度的增大而增加。  相似文献

传统的研究含缺口构件的疲劳的方法是将疲劳启裂和疲劳裂纹扩展两个过程完全独立起来,用不同的方法来模拟,相互间并没有定量的关系。本文是基于最新发展的多轴疲劳损伤理论,建立了一种适用于各种载荷条件下的疲劳启裂和裂纹扩展的普适方法。根据从弹塑性分析中得到的应力应变,确定疲劳损伤模型,建立能够预测疲劳启裂、裂纹扩展速率和扩展方向的新方法。整个模拟可以分为两步:弹-塑性应力分析得到材料的应力应变分布;再运用一个通用的疲劳准则预测疲劳裂纹启裂和裂纹扩展。通过对1070号钢含缺口试件的疲劳全寿命预测,得到了与实验非常吻合的模拟结果。  相似文献

In this paper, two different fracture criteria are applied to determine the crack trajectory or angle of crack propagation in test specimens containing inclined cracks emanating from open holes. Also, different crack growth rate models are assumed for each criterion. The maximum principal stress criterion is used with a crack growth-rate equation based on an effective stress intensity factor. The strain energy density criterion is used with a crack growth-rate equation corresponding to an effective strain energy density factor. The crack growth-rate models for each criterion were constructed using unpublished fatigue crack growth data for 2024-T3 aluminum.  相似文献

本文对结构用钢Q345的低周疲劳性能进行了试验研究。试验在常温下岛津电液伺服疲劳试验机上进行,采用轴向应变控制方法,恒定应变速率为0.005s-1,应变比为-1。试验结果表明,初始阶段,Q345在高应变幅值(0.6%)循环作用下出现循环硬化效应,而在低应变幅值(0.6%)作用下出现循环软化效应;随着加载应变幅的增加,硬化和软化率呈直线上升趋势。Q345疲劳裂纹萌生阶段占其整个寿命的60%以上,其裂纹萌生寿命与应变幅存在幂函数关系。根据Coffin-Manson公式得到了Q345的应变-寿命关系公式;采用能量预测法得到了材料的塑性应变能与疲劳寿命的关系表达式。上述结果对钢结构的设计、评估具有重要的工程应用参考价值。  相似文献

The rate at which energy is accumulated within a unit volume of material in fatigue is assumed to depend not only on load-time history but also on the specimen size and geometry in addition to material type. A threshold level for the hysteresis strain energy density function accumulated in the material is used for predicting macrocrack growth. This is accomplished by application of the incremental theory of plasticity for each increment of crack growth. The accumulated hysteresis strain energy density factor ΔS to crack growth increment Δa ratio is found to be constant for fixed specimen size and loading, i.e., . Results are obtained for the cylindrical bar specimens with a penny-shaped defect at the center subjected to a constant amplitude and frequency loading. The resistance curves in the ΔS versus Δa plot are parallel lines as specimen size is altered. This information provides a rational means for predicting the influence of specimen size on fatigue lifetime.The results are also compared with those found for geometrically similar plate specimens with line cracks. Cylinder bar specimens of the same material are found to sustain more load cycles prior to catastrophic failure.  相似文献

The fatigue crack growth rate in the zirconia tetragonal polycrystal is analyzed through the finite element method. In order to achieve this purpose, a continuum based constitutive law for materials subjected to phase transformations has been suitably implemented into a commercial finite element code. The fatigue crack growth in a notched beam, subjected to a cyclic four points bending load, has been investigated through a sensitivity analyses with respect to the two most relevant constitutive parameters: one accounting for the amount of the transformation strain and one accounting for the activation energy threshold. The fatigue crack growth rate typical of transforming materials is characterized by two distinct stages: at the beginning of the crack propagation process, the crack growth rate exhibits a negative dependency on the applied stress intensity factor; thereafter, a linear positive dependency is observed. This two stage process is well caught by the finite element model presented in this paper. Moreover, the response of the computational analyses has shown that the strength of the transformation process is determinant for the crack growth process to be arrested.  相似文献

In this paper, a special bending fatigue experiment was firstly performed to investigate the fatigue behavior of polyethylene methacrylate in adhesive assembly. Fatigue lifetime property (S–N curve) was obtained. Finite element calculations on the whole structures also gave the same results with the testing. Based on the experimental data and finite element analysis, a local stress law of predicting bending fatigue lifetime was put forward. The predication lifetime for the polyethylene methacrylate agreed well with the experimental results. Following the strain energy density (SED) criterion was applied to predict the crack initiation and growth path of the adhesive assembly. The predicted results were in good agreement with the optical microscopy (OM) failure image of the failure specimen. SEM image of fracture further showed that there were lots of parallel fatigue lines with perpendicularity to the direction of crack, and an obvious boundary from the crack propagation failure to final brittle fracture.  相似文献

Elastic–plastic solutions of an anti-plane crack in an infinite body are used in conjunction with a continuum damage model to describe the conditions necessary for the onset of crack instability, fatigue crack propagation due to cyclic loading, and rates of crack growth due to time dependent events. A power law relates the stress to the strain of the material. The damage, which invokes nucleation, growth and coalescence of microvoids due to elevated strain, is confined to the plastic zone surrounding the crack tip. For applied loading below the yield stress, the small-scale and large-scale yielding solutions are used to determine the influence of strain hardening on crack instability and failure. Crack growth due to cyclic loading and time-dependent deformations are studied using the small-scale yielding solution of the deformation theory of plasticity.  相似文献

In this paper, the incremental theory of plasticity is used in conjunction with the strain energy density criterion to determine the stress field in 4-in. wide test specimens containing 3 holes. These specimens, made from 0.04-in. thick sheets of 2024-T3 aluminum, also contained small collinear cracks emanating from the holes. The initial crack sizes varied from 0.15 to 0.26 in. Residual strength tests conducted with these specimens revealed that stable tearing occurred before failure. Analyses were performed to predict the stable crack extension and failure by plastic collapsed. Because of the complexities involved with nonlinear stress analysis combined with subcritical crack extension, the finite element method was used with the grid pattern adjusted for each increment of stable tearing. Reasonable correlation between the experimental data and predicted results was achieved.  相似文献

Fatigue growth behavior of out-of-plane gusset welded joints is studied using the strain energy density factor approach. Fatigue tests on two types of specimens with curvatures of ρ = 0 and ρ = 30 were performed in order to estimate fatigue strength under tension. Fatigue crack growth analysis is carried out to show the effects of initial crack shape, initial crack length and stress ratio. Fatigue crack growth parameters were obtained from crack growth curves assuming constant crack shapes. The results of analysis for the assumed crack shapes agreed well with the experimental data. Fatigue propagation life of the ρ = 30 specimen was larger than that of the ρ = 0 specimen.  相似文献

论文针对中密度聚乙烯材料(MDPE),采用平板试样进行了I型疲劳裂纹扩展和单次过载下裂纹扩展试验.发现与金属材料类似,单次拉伸过载对聚乙烯(PE)的疲劳裂纹扩展有明显的迟滞作用,降低了裂纹扩展速率.试验还通过变载荷刻线法获取疲劳裂纹扩展前缘的实际形貌和变化规律,对常规变载荷刻线方法进行了调整和验证,其修正方法对高分子材料的疲劳裂纹扩展前缘刻线具有较好的效果.通过观察发现含楔形塑性区的裂尖钝化是裂纹迟滞的主要原因.过载引入的塑性区内残余应力对裂纹迟滞也起了重要作用.论文利用Dugdale模型计算了塑性区尺寸,使用基于残余应力的Wheeler模型对过载迟滞进行了很好的拟合.  相似文献

When a fatigue crack is nucleated and propagates into the vicinity of the notch, the crack growth rate is generally higher than that can be expected by using the stress intensity factor concept. The current study attempted to describe the crack growth at notches quantitatively with a detailed consideration of the cyclic plasticity of the material. An elastic–plastic finite element analysis was conducted to obtain the stress and strain histories of the notched component. A single multiaxial fatigue criterion was used to determine the crack initiation from the notch and the subsequent crack growth. Round compact specimens made of 1070 steel were subjected to Mode I cyclic loading with different R-ratios at room temperature. The approach developed was able to quantitatively capture the crack growth behavior near the notch. When the R-ratio was positive, the crack growth near a notch was mainly influenced by the plasticity created by the notch and the resulted fatigue damage during crack initiation. When the R-ratio was negative, the contact of the cracked surfaces during a part of a loading cycle reduced the cyclic plasticity of the material near the crack tip. The combined effect of notch plasticity and possible contact of cracked surface were responsible for the observed crack growth phenomenon near a notch.  相似文献

One of the main concerns of aeronautical structures is structural damage due to fatigue. This phenomenon is accentuated in areas of stress concentration, namely the connection of components. The fuselage is one of the most important structural elements where the connection of the fuselage panels is often done by riveting. Specimens with several geometric configurations are used to study these structures. This work is concerned with the study of one of these specimens, i.e., the lap splice with three rows of rivets and one rivet column. It is part of the IDMEC-Porto contribution to the European project ADMIRE. Stress versus number of cycles results and measurements of fatigue striation spacing along two perpendicular directions using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are presented. The fractographic reconstitution of fatigue crack growth was carried out. The value of equivalent initial flaw size (EIFS) is calculated using the back extrapolation technique and two models of fatigue crack growth. They consist of a model using the Paris law and another the strain energy density factor concept. The EIFS is used to predict the fatigue behaviour of this structural detail. It is intended to verify the applicability of empirical models based in experimental evidences.  相似文献

ASTM和ISO已发布获得低约束条件下断裂性能和裂纹稳态扩展阻力曲线的标准,标准中采用多种试验方法确定临界裂纹张开角度来表征板材的裂纹稳态扩展。本文采用准静态裂纹扩展试验方法,通过摄像技术测定裂纹尖端张开角(CTOA),验证标准对1mm厚度2024-T3铝合金板稳态裂纹扩展行为的有效性。研究了试样构型、裂纹尺寸和是否疲劳预制裂纹对裂纹稳态扩展过程中CTOA的影响。试验结果表明:裂纹扩展2mm后,距离裂纹尖端1mm处的CTOA趋于一个恒定值6°,这个值与试样构型和裂纹长度无关;同时,不预制疲劳裂纹对CTOA值和试样的最大剩余强度影响较小。  相似文献

The maximum energy release rate criterion, i.e., G max criterion, is commonly used for crack propagation analysis. This fracture criterion is based on the elastic macroscopic strength of materials. In the present investigation, however, the G max criterion has been modified in order to accommodate the consideration of plastic strain energy. This modified criterion is extended to study the fatigue crack growth characteristics of mixed-mode cracks. To predict crack propagation due to fatigue loads, a new elasto–plastic energy model is presented. This new model includes the effects of material properties such as strain hardening exponent n, yield strength σ y , and fracture toughness and stress intensity factor ranges. The results obtained are compared with those obtained using the commonly employed crack growth law and the experimental data.  相似文献

The present study investigates the microstructural size effect on the strength of a bar under axial loading, and on the toughness and crack growth of a beam under three-point bending within the framework of strain gradient elasticity. The gradient responses have been found considerably tougher as compared to the classical theory predictions and the observed deviation increases with increasing values of the non-dimensional parameter g/L (microstructural length over structural length). Based on the analytical solution of the strain energy release rate for the three-point bending case, a new, simple and universal, strain gradient elasticity, brittle fracture criterion and a new, size adjusted fatigue crack growth law have been established. Finally, the analytical predictions of the current modeling compare well with previous experimental data, based on three-point bending tests on single-edge notched concrete beams.  相似文献
