The creep buckling and post-buckling of the laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic functionally graded material (FGM) plates are studied in this research. Considering the transverse shear deformation and geometric nonlinearity, the Von Karman geometric relation of the laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic FGM plates with initial deflection is established. And then nonlinear creep governing equations of the laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic FGM plates subjected to an in-plane compressive load are derived on the basis of the elastic piezoelectric theory and Boltzmann superposition principle. Applying the finite difference method and the Newmark scheme, the whole problem is solved by the iterative method. In numerical examples, the effects of geometric nonlinearity, transverse shear deformation, the applied electric load, the volume fraction and the geometric parameters on the creep buckling and post-buckling of laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic FGM plates with initial deflection are investigated.  相似文献

FGM components are constructed to sustain high temperature gradients. There are many applications where the FGM components are vulnerable to transient thermal shocks. If a component is already under compressive external loads (e.g. under a combination of axial compression and external pressure), the mentioned thermal shocks will cause the component to exhibit dynamic behavior and in some cases may lead to buckling. On the other hand, a preheated FGM component may undergo dynamic mechanical loads. Only static thermal buckling investigations were developed so far for the FGM shells. In the present paper, dynamic buckling of a pre-stressed, suddenly heated imperfect FGM cylindrical shell and dynamic buckling of a mechanically loaded imperfect FGM cylindrical shell in thermal environment, with temperature-dependent properties are presented. The general form of Green’s strain tensor in curvilinear coordinates and a high order shell theory proposed already by the author are used. Instead of using semi-analytical solutions that rely on the validity of the separation of variables concept, the complicated nonlinear governing equations are solved using the finite element method. Buckling load is detected by a modified Budiansky criterion proposed by the author. The effects of temperature-dependency of the material properties, volume fraction index, load combination, and initial geometric imperfections on the thermo-mechanical post-buckling behavior of a shell with two constituent materials are evaluated. The results reveal that the volume fraction index and especially, the differences between the thermal stresses created in the outer and the inner surfaces may change the buckling behavior. Furthermore, temperature gradient and initial imperfections have less effect on buckling of a shell subjected to a pure external pressure.  相似文献

This paper presents thermo-mechanical post-buckling analysis of cylindrical panels that are made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) with temperature-dependent thermo-elastic properties that are graded in the direction of thickness according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The panel is initially stressed by an axial load, and is then subjected to a uniform temperature change. The theoretical formulations are based on the classical shell theory with von-Karman–Donnell-type nonlinearity. The effect of initial geometric imperfection is also included. A differential quadrature (DQ) based semi-analytical method combined with an iteration process is employed to predict the critical buckling load (where it is applicable) and to trace the post-buckling equilibrium path of FGM cylindrical panels under thermo-mechanical loading. Numerical results are presented for panels with silicon nitride and nickel as the ceramic and metal constituents. The effects of temperature-dependent properties, volume fraction index, axial load, initial imperfection, panel geometry and boundary conditions on the thermo-mechanical post-buckling behavior are evaluated in detail through parametric studies.  相似文献

A postbuckling analysis is presented for a functionally graded cylindrical shell subjected to torsion in thermal environments. Heat conduction and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the shell surface and varied in the thickness direction. The material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents, and are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation theory with a von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic non-linearity. The non-linear prebuckling deformations and initial geometric imperfections of the shell are both taken into account. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the buckling load and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling behavior of twist, perfect and imperfect, FGM cylindrical shells under different sets of thermal fields. The results reveal that the volume fraction distribution of FGMs has a significant effect on the buckling load and postbuckling behavior of FGM cylindrical shells subjected to torsion. They also confirm that the torsional postbuckling equilibrium path is weakly unstable and the shell structure is virtually imperfection–insensitive.  相似文献

Thermal buckling behavior of cylindrical shell made of functionally graded material(FGM) is studied. The material constituents are composed of ceramic and metal. The material properties across the shell thickness are assumed to be graded according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction rule of mixtures. Based on the Donnell shell theory, a system of dimensionless partial differential equations of buckling in terms of displacement components is derived. The method of separation of variables is used to transform the governing equations to ordinary differential equations(ODEs). A shooting method is used to search for the numerical solutions of the differential equations under two types of boundary conditions. Effects of the power law index, the dimensionless geometrical parameters, and the temperature ratio on the critical buckling temperature are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Buckling and postbuckling characteristics of laminated graphene-enhanced composite (GEC) truncated conical shells exposed to torsion under temperature conditions using finite element method (FEM) simulation are presented in this study. In the thickness direction, the GEC layers of the conical shell are ordered in a piece-wise arrangement of functionally graded (FG) distribution, with each layer containing a variable volume fraction for graphene reinforcement. To calculate the properties of temperature-dependent material of GEC layers, the extended Halpin-Tsai micromechanical framework is used. The FEM model is verified via comparing the current results obtained with the theoretical estimates for homogeneous, laminated cylindrical, and conical shells, the FEM model is validated. The computational results show that a piece-wise FG graphene volume fraction distribution can improve the torque of critical buckling and torsional postbuckling strength. Also, the geometric parameters have a critical impact on the stability of the conical shell. However, a temperature rise can reduce the crucial torsional buckling torque as well as the GEC laminated truncated conical shell's postbuckling strength.  相似文献

Here, the nonlinear thermo-elastic buckling/post-buckling characteristics of laminated circular conical–cylindrical/conical–cylindrical–conical joined shells subjected to uniform temperature rise are studied employing semi-analytical finite element approach. The nonlinear governing equations, considering geometric nonlinearity based on von Karman’s assumption for moderately large deformation, are solved using Newton–Raphson iteration procedure coupled with displacement control method to trace the pre-buckling/post-buckling equilibrium path. The presence of asymmetric perturbation in the form of small magnitude load spatially proportional to the linear buckling mode shape is assumed to initiate the bifurcation of the shell deformation. The study is carried out to highlight the influences of semi-cone angle, material properties and number of circumferential waves on the nonlinear thermo-elastic response of the different joined shell systems.  相似文献

The sensitivity of laminated conical shells to imperfection is considered, via the initial post-buckling analysis, on the basis of three different shell theories: Donnell’s, Sanders’, and Timoshenko’s. Unlike isotropic conical shells or laminated cylindrical shells, in the case of laminated conical shells the thickness and the material properties vary with the shell coordinates, which complicates the problem considerably. The main objective of the study is to investigate the influence of the variation of the stiffness coefficients on the buckling behavior and on the imperfection sensitivity of laminated conical shells. It is felt that by finding the various parameters that influence the shell’s imperfection sensitivity, it is possible to improve the behavior of the whole structure.A special Level-1 computer code ISOLCS (Imperfection Sensitivity of Laminated Conical Shells) had been developed. ISOLCS calculates the classical buckling load and the imperfection sensitivity via Koiter’s theory of laminated conical shells with consideration to the variation of the material properties in the shell’s coordinates. The range of validity of the Level-1 predictions by ISOLCS is verified by the Level-3 code STAGS-A.  相似文献

Based on von Karman's plate theory, the axisymmetric thermal buckling and post-buckling of the functionally graded material(FGM) circular plates with inplane elastic restraints under transversely non-uniform temperature rise are studied. The properties of the FGM media are varied through the thickness based on a simple power law. The governing equations are numerically solved by a shooting method. The results of the critical buckling temperature, post-buckling equilibrium paths, and configurations for the in-plane elastically restrained plates are presented. The effects of the in-plane elastic restraints, material property gradient, and temperature variation on the responses of thermal buckling and post-buckling are examined in detail.  相似文献

Based on the classical nonlinear von Karman plate theory, axisymmetric large deflection bending of a functionally graded circular plate is investigated under mechanical, thermal and combined thermal–mechanical loadings, respectively, and axisymmetric thermal post-buckling behavior of a functionally graded circular plate is also investigated. The mechanical and thermal properties of functionally graded material (FGM) are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate, and obey a simple power law of the volume fraction of the constituents. Governing equations for the problem are derived, and then a shooting method is employed to numerically solve the equations. Effects of material constant n and boundary conditions on the temperature distribution, nonlinear bending, critical buckling temperature and thermal post-buckling behavior of the FGM plate are discussed in details.  相似文献

Thermal postbuckling analysis is presented for graphene-reinforced composite (GRC) laminated cylindrical shells under a uniform temperature field. The GRC layers are arranged in a functionally graded (FG) graphene reinforcement pattern by varying the graphene volume fraction in each GRC layer. The GRCs possess temperature dependent and anisotropic material properties and the extended Halpin–Tsai model is employed to evaluate the GRC material properties. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory and include the von Kármán-type kinematic nonlinearity and the thermal effects. A singular perturbation method in conjunction with a two-step perturbation approach is applied to determine the thermal postbuckling equilibrium path for a GRC shell with or without geometric imperfection. An iterative scheme is developed to obtain numerical thermal buckling temperatures and thermal postbuckling load–deflection curves for the shells. The results reveal that the FG-X piece-wise FG graphene distribution can enhance the thermal postbuckling capacity of the shells when the shells are subjected to a uniform temperature loading.

The nonlinear large deflection theory of cylindrical shells is extended to discuss nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shells which are synchronously subjected to axial compression and lateral loads. In this analysis, the non-linear strain-displacement relations of large deformation and the Ritz energy method are used. The material properties of the shells vary smoothly through the shell thickness according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. Meanwhile, by taking the temperature-dependent material properties into account, various effects of external thermal environment are also investigated. The non-linear critical condition is found by defining the possible lowest point of external force. Numerical results show various effects of the inhomogeneous parameter, dimensional parameters and external thermal environments on non-linear buckling behaviors of combine-loaded FG cylindrical shells. In addition, the postbuckling equilibrium paths are also plotted for axially loaded pre-pressured FG cylindrical shells and there is an interesting mode jump exhibited.  相似文献

Via the energy-based analytical and numerical methods, this paper studies the pre- and post-buckling compression behaviors of concentric multi-walled cylindrical shells filled with low-shear-modulus (or fluid like) materials, which are widely observed in biological composites. It is found that if the bulk modulus of the filled materials is on the same order of (or larger than) the Young's modulus of the shell, the axial compression resistance in the post-buckling stage can be significantly improved. In specific, the tangent stiffness increases quickly with the increase of the compression strain, and finally may become compatible with that for a non-buckled hollow shell. Moreover, it is interesting to note that the compression resistance after buckling is approximately in proportion to the net shell-wall area, and independent of the thickness or the number of shell-walls. These investigations may quantitatively reveal a mechanism adopted by the nature: rolling the flat thin-layered composites into a filled concentric multi-walled cylindrical shell to achieve better compression resistance. The biological concentric shell can also be viewed as a double-leveled hierarchical structure, which is capable to sustain more complex loadings than the bottom leveled structure.  相似文献

In this paper performance of a new piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (PFRC) material has been investigated for active constrained layer damping (ACLD) of laminated thin simply supported composite cylindrical panels. The constraining layer of the ACLD treatment has been considered to be made of this PFRC material. A finite element model of smart composite panels integrated with the patches of such ACLD treatment has been developed to demonstrate the performance of these patches on enhancing the damping characteristics of thin cross-ply and angle-ply laminated composite cylindrical panels. Particular emphasis has been placed on studying the effect of variation of the piezoelectric fiber orientation in the constraining PFRC layer and the shallowness angle of the panels on the control authority of the patches.  相似文献

An analytic study for thermoelastic bending of a functionally graded material (FGM) cylindrical shell subjected to a uniform transverse mechanical load and non-uniform thermal loads is presented. Based on the classical linear shell theory, the equations with the radial deflection and horizontal displacement are derived out. An arbitrary material property of the FGM cylindrical shell is assumed to vary through the thickness of the cylindrical shell, and exact solution of the problem is obtained by using an analytic method. For the FGM cylindrical shell with fixed and simply supported boundary conditions, the effects of mechanical load, thermal load and the power law exponent on the deformation of the FGM cylindrical shell are analyzed and discussed.  相似文献
