A method is outlined for solving two-dimensional transonic viscous flow problems, in which the velocity vector is split into the gradient of a potential and a rotational component. The approach takes advantage of the fact that for high-Reynolds-number flows the viscous terms of the Navier-Stokes equations are important only in a thin shear layer and therefore solution of the full equations may not be needed everywhere. Most of the flow can be considered inviscid and, neglecting the entropy and vorticity effects, a potential model is a good approximation in the flow core. The rotational part of the flow can then be calculated by solution of the potential, streamfunction and vorticity transport equations. Implementation of the no-slip and no-penetration boundary conditions at the walls provides a simple mechanism for the interaction between the viscous and inviscid solutions and no extra coupling procedures are needed. Results are presented for turbulent transonic internal choked flows.  相似文献

In this study the influence of a thin hydrodynamic boundary layer on the heat transfer from a single circular cylinder in liquid metals having low Prandtl number (0.004–0.03) is investigated under isothermal and isoflux boundary conditions. Two separate analytical heat transfer models, viscous and inviscid, are developed to clarify the discrepancy between previous results. For both models, integral approach of the boundary layer analysis is employed to derive closed form expressions for the calculation of the average heat transfer coefficients. For an inviscid model, the energy equation is solved using potential flow velocity only whereas for a viscous model, a fourth-order velocity profile is used in the hydrodynamic boundary layer and potential flow velocity is used outside the boundary layer. The third-order temperature profile is used inside the thermal boundary layer for both models. It is shown that the inviscid model gives higher heat transfer coefficients whereas viscous flow model gives heat transfer results in a fairly good agreement with the previous experimental/numerical results.  相似文献

SUMMARY

The development of a pressure-based Euler scheme, based on a collocated grid arrangement and solving for Cartesian mass flux components is described. An implicit numerical dissipation model, which includes second and fourth difference terms expressed in pressure, is demonstrated. A smoothing function, which includes a two-level filter, is used to adjust the second order-dissipation. The successful calculations for the inviscid transonic aerodynamic flow around airfoil NACA0012 are presented. The transonic quasi-one-dimensional flow calculation in a converging-diverging nozzle is chosen as an example of an internal flow simulation.  相似文献

We establish the existence and stability of multidimensional steady transonic flows with transonic shocks through an infinite nozzle of arbitrary cross-sections, including a slowly varying de Laval nozzle. The transonic flow is governed by the inviscid potential flow equation with supersonic upstream flow at the entrance, uniform subsonic downstream flow at the exit at infinity, and the slip boundary condition on the nozzle boundary. Our results indicate that, if the supersonic upstream flow at the entrance is sufficiently close to a uniform flow, there exists a solution that consists of a C 1,α subsonic flow in the unbounded downstream region, converging to a uniform velocity state at infinity, and a C 1,α multidimensional transonic shock separating the subsonic flow from the supersonic upstream flow; the uniform velocity state at the exit at infinity in the downstream direction is uniquely determined by the supersonic upstream flow; and the shock is orthogonal to the nozzle boundary at every point of their intersection. In order to construct such a transonic flow, we reformulate the multidimensional transonic nozzle problem into a free boundary problem for the subsonic phase, in which the equation is elliptic and the free boundary is a transonic shock. The free boundary conditions are determined by the Rankine–Hugoniot conditions along the shock. We further develop a nonlinear iteration approach and employ its advantages to deal with such a free boundary problem in the unbounded domain. We also prove that the transonic flow with a transonic shock is unique and stable with respect to the nozzle boundary and the smooth supersonic upstream flow at the entrance.  相似文献

High Reynolds number viscous transonic flow is described based on an interaction of the potential outer flow with the boundary layer and wake. Following the procedure of Lighthill (1958), the solutions in these domains are matched to each other through boundary conditions. The solution to the complete problem is obtained iteratively through successive computations of the flows in the outer and inner domains. Both old and new algorithms are used for the iteration process and subsequent problem solution. Results are given for all the airfoils from the Experimental Data Base for Computer Program Assessment (AGARD-AR-138, 1979). A comparison of these results with experimental data shows the degree of agreement between these unbounded airfoil flow simulations and real transonic flow over the central part of a straight wing.  相似文献

Here we consider the stability of flow along a streamwise corner formed by the intersection of two large flat plates held perpendicular to each other. Self-similar solutions for the steady laminar mean flow in the corner region have been obtained by solving the boundary layer equations for zero and nonzero streamwise pressure gradients. The stability of the mean flow is investigated using linear stability analysis. An eigensolver has been developed to solve the resulting linear eigenvalue problem either in a global mode to obtain an approximation to all the dominant eigenmodes or in a local mode to refine a particular eigenmode. The stability results indicate that the entire spectrum of two-dimensional and oblique viscous modes of a two-dimensional Blasius boundary layer is active in the case of a corner layer as well, but away from the cornerline. In a corner region of finite spanwise extent, the continuous spectrum of oblique modes degenerates to a discrete spectrum of modes of increasing spanwise wave number. The effect of the corner on the two-dimensional viscous instability is small and decreases the growth rate. The growth rate of outgoing oblique disturbances is observed to decrease, while the growth rate of incoming oblique disturbances is enhanced by the corner. This asymmetry between the outgoing and incoming viscous modes increases with increasing obliqueness of the disturbance. The instability of a zero pressure gradient corner layer is dominated by the viscous modes; however, an inviscid corner mode is also observed. The critical Reynolds number of the inviscid mode rapidly decreases with even a small adverse streamwise pressure gradient and the inviscid mode becomes the dominant one.

A family of two-dimensional divergent channels with piecewise-constant velocity and pressure distributions over the wall is considered. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is applied to study the two-dimensional viscous incompressible flow at high but subcritical Reynolds numbers in the vicinity of a pressure jump point on the channel wall. It is shown that if the pressure difference is of the order O(Re?1/4), then in the vicinity of this point a classical region of interaction between the viscous boundary layer on the wall and the outer inviscid flow occurs. The problem formulated for the interaction region is solved numerically. The asymptotic values of the pressure difference corresponding to separationless flow are determined and the separation flow patterns are constructed.  相似文献

A new computational approach is developed for the analysis of vortex-dominated flow fields around highly swept wings at high angles of attack. In this approach an inviscid Euler technology is coupled with viscous models, similar to inviscid/boundary layer coupling. The viscous nature of the vortex core is represented by an algebraic model derived from the Navier–Stokes equations. The approach also accounts for the effects of the viscous shear layer near a wing surface through a modified surface boundary condition. The inviscid/viscous coupling consistently provides improved predictions of leading edge separation, vortex bursting and secondary vortex formation at relatively low computational cost. Results for several cases are compared with wind tunnel tests and other Euler and Navier-Stokes solutions.  相似文献

Pressure-swirl nozzles are widely used in applications such as combustion, painting, air-conditioning, and fire suppression. Understanding the effects of nozzle geometry and inlet flow conditions on liquid film thickness, discharge coefficient and spray angle is very important in nozzle design. The nozzle-internal flow is two-phase with a secondary flow which makes its detailed analysis rather complex. In the current work, the flow field inside a pressure-swirl nozzle is studied theoretically. Using the integral momentum method, the growth of the boundary layer from the nozzle entry to the orifice exit is investigated and the velocity through the boundary layer and the main body of the swirling liquid is calculated. A numerical modeling and a series of experiments have also been performed to validate the theoretical results. The effect of various geometrical parameters is studied and results are compared for viscous and inviscid cases. In addition, the condition in which the centrifugal force of the swirling flow overcomes the viscous force and induces an air core is predicted. The theoretical analysis discussed in this paper provides better criteria for the design and the performance analysis of nozzles.  相似文献

In this paper, a simple and efficient immersed boundary (IB) method is developed for the numerical simulation of inviscid compressible Euler equations. We propose a method based on coordinate transformation to calculate the unknowns of ghost points. In the present study, the body‐grid intercept points are used to build a complete bilinear (2‐D)/trilinear (3‐D) interpolation. A third‐order weighted essentially nonoscillation scheme with a new reference smoothness indicator is proposed to improve the accuracy at the extrema and discontinuity region. The dynamic blocked structured adaptive mesh is used to enhance the computational efficiency. The parallel computation with loading balance is applied to save the computational cost for 3‐D problems. Numerical tests show that the present method has second‐order overall spatial accuracy. The double Mach reflection test indicates that the present IB method gives almost identical solution as that of the boundary‐fitted method. The accuracy of the solver is further validated by subsonic and transonic flow past NACA2012 airfoil. Finally, the present IB method with adaptive mesh is validated by simulation of transonic flow past 3‐D ONERA M6 Wing. Global agreement with experimental and other numerical results are obtained.  相似文献

An adaptive grid generation technique based on modified variational principles coupled with an exponential clustering has been developed and tested successfully for the computation of steady inviscid transonic projectile aerodynamics. The isoperimetric problem for adaptive gridding is to extremize a grid smoothness functional subject to grid orthogonality and resolution functionals; however, the Lagrange multipliers have been assumed to be variables with zero variation and are properly chosen as functions of local grid size to enhance locally the grid resolution as well as to maintain the weight of three grid characteristics the same over the entire flow field. With computed pressure gradient as the control function for grid adaptation, the resulting Euler equations cannot provide sufficient grid resolution in the boundary layer region of the projectile geometry; hence, a clustering technique is needed to redistribute the points along the normal grid lines. A grid generation code has been developed and coupled to an axisymmetric thin-layer Navier-Stokes code for self-adaptive grid generation. For the three transonic flow cases considered, M = 0.91, 0.96 and 1.10, the distribution of surface pressure calculated from the inviscid option of the Navier-Stokes code is indeed in excellent agreement with published measured data.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper presents a hybrid spectral/finite volume method for steady-state compressible viscous flows. The method is evaluated for accuracy via test cases for various Mach numbers. The domain is divided into a viscous region and an inviscid region. The viscous region uses the full Navier-Stokes equations, while the inviscid region employs the Euler equations. A high order Chebyshev collocation spectral method is developed for the viscous region to resolve boundary layers. This method avoids the dense grids needed by finite-volume methods to resolve the viscous areas. A low order finite-volume method based on a Lax-Wendroff type scheme is employed for the inviscid region. A special interface formulation is developed for coupling the spectral with the finite-volume method. Comparisons with analytic results as well as convergence histories are presented.  相似文献

A vanishing viscosity method is formulated for two-dimensional transonic steady irrotational compressible fluid flows with adiabatic constant . This formulation allows a family of invariant regions in the phase plane for the corresponding viscous problem, which implies an upper bound uniformly away from cavitation for the viscous approximate velocity fields. Mathematical entropy pairs are constructed through the Loewner–Morawetz relation via entropy generators governed by a generalized Tricomi equation of mixed elliptic–hyperbolic type, and the corresponding entropy dissipation measures are analyzed so that the viscous approximate solutions satisfy the compensated compactness framework. Then the method of compensated compactness is applied to show that a sequence of solutions to the artificial viscous problem, staying uniformly away from stagnation with uniformly bounded velocity angles, converges to an entropy solution of the inviscid transonic flow problem. A two-phase flow with high Reynolds numbers in the subsonic, transonic, and supersonic parts of the nozzle is considered within the framework of the Prandtl model, i.e., the flow is divided into an inviscid core and a thin boundary layer. Mutual influence of the gas and solid particles is taken into account. The Euler equations are solved for the gas in the flow core, and the boundary-layer equations are used in the near-wall region. The particle motion in the inviscid region is described by the Lagrangian approach, and trajectories and temperatures of particle packets are tracked. The behavior of particles in the boundary layer is described by the Euler equations for volume-averaged parameters of particles. The computed particle-velocity distributions are compared with experiments in a plane nozzle. It is noted that particles inserted in the subsonic part of the nozzle are focused at the nozzle centerline, which leads to substantial flow deceleration in the supersonic part of the nozzle. The effect of various boundary conditions for the flow of particles in the inviscid region is considered. For an axisymmetric nozzle, the influence of the contour of the subsonic part of the nozzle, the loading ratio, and the particle diameter on the particle-flow parameters in the inviscid region and in the boundary layer is studied. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 46, No. 6, pp. 65–77, November–December, 2005.  相似文献

It is known that in adiabatic boundary layer flow over a curved surface the detailed structure of the spanwise periodic Görtler vortex instability varies markedly over the range of spanwise wavelength. At short wavelengths the modes tend to be concentrated in a well-defined thin zone located within the boundary layer. As the vortex wavenumber diminishes so the region of vortex activity is first driven to the bounding wall but subsequently expands to cover the entire boundary layer at which stage the modes take on a principally inviscid form. At yet longer wavelengths the vortices are given by the solution of an interactive multi-deck structure which has some similarities with that for Tollmien–Schlichting waves. In this work we investigate how the application of wall cooling affects the above scenario. It is shown how cooling both restricts the range of mode types and gives rise to two new structures. The first, for moderate cooling and which relates to longer wavelengths, is interactive in nature. Here the viscous–inviscid interaction between an essentially inviscid Görtler problem, albeit for an effective basic flow which in its general form has a non-standard near-wall structure, and a viscous sublayer is provided by novel boundary conditions. Shorter wavelength vortices are largely unaffected by wall cooling unless this is quite severe. However when this degree of cooling is applied, the vortices take on a fully viscous form and are confined to a thin region next to the bounding wall wherein the basic flow assumes an analytic form. Numerical solutions are obtained and we provide evidence as to how the two new structures are related both to each other and to the previously known uncooled results.  相似文献

The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique is applied in the frequency domain to obtain a reduced-order model of the unsteady flow in a transonic turbomachinery cascade of oscillating blades. The flow is described by a inviscid—viscous model, i.e. a full potential equation outer flow model and an integral equation boundary layer model. The nonlinear transonic steady flow is computed first and then the unsteady flow is determined by a small perturbation linearization about the nonlinear steady solution. Solutions are determined for a full range of frequencies and validated. The full model results and the POD method are used to construct a reduced-order model in the frequency domain. A cascade of airfoils forming the Tenth Standard Configuration is investigated to show that the reduced-order model with only 15–75 degrees of freedom accurately predicts the unsteady response of the full system with approximately 15 000 degrees of freedom.  相似文献

A two-dimensional boundary layer of an incompressible viscous fluid is investigated in the presence of velocity and pressure fluctuations. The characteristic Reynolds number is high and, as a consequence, the unsteady (turbulent) boundary layer is thin. An asymptotic approach is used to analyze the complete unsteady Navier–Stokes equations, which makes it possible to separate out the characteristic viscous and inviscid flow zones in the boundary layer and to solve the corresponding problems. The analytical expressions for the viscous fluctuations governed by the Hamel equation with a large value of the parameter are derived.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to numerically study a drag reduction method—passive control of shock/boundary layer interaction, which is applied to the boattail portion of a secant-ogive-cylinder-boattail projectile in turbulent transonic flows. The flow pattern and the components of aerodynamic drag computed from numerical data are analyzed. The effectiveness of this method is studied by varying the values of parameters such as porosity distribution, maximum porosity factor and size of porous region. The conditions for optimal drag reduction are investigated and reported. The present results show that the use of this passive control method can not only reduce the boattail drag but also the base drag, and results in an additional 8% total drag reduction compared to that without the passive control technique. This passive control method can be an effective approach for the design of high-performance projectiles in the transonic regime.  相似文献
