Under dielectric continuum approximation, interface optical (IO) phonon modes and the Frohlich electron-IO phonon interaction Hamiltonian in a multi-shell spherical nanoheterosystem were derived and studied. Numericalcalculations on three-layer and four-layer CdS/HgS spherical nanoheterosystems have been performed. Results revealthat there are four IO phonon modes for the three-layer system and six IO phonon modes for the four-layer system. On each interface, there are two IO phonon modes, the frequency of one is between WTO,CdS and WLO,CdS, and that ofthe other is between WTO,HgS and WLO,HgS. With the increasing of quantum number l, the frequency of each IO modeapproaches one of the two frequency values of the single CdS/HgS heterostructure, and the potential for each IO modeis more and more localized at a certain interface, furthermore, the coupling between the electron-lO phonons becomes weaker.  相似文献

Under dielectric continuum approximation, interface optical (IO) and surface optical (SO) phonon modes as well as the corresponding Fro^ehlich electron-phonon interaction Hamiltonian in a free-standing cylindrical quantum-well wire (QWW) are derived and studied. Numerical calculations on GaAs/AlzGa1-x As cylindrical QWW are performed. Results reveal that there are two branches of IO phonon modes and one branch of SO phonon mode, and the dispersion frequencies of IO or SO phonon modes sensitively depend on the Al mole fraction x in AlzGa1-x As material and the wavevector in z direction, kz. With the increasing of kz and quantum number m, the frequency of each IO mode approaches one of the two frequency values of the single GaAs/AlxGa1-x As heterostructure, and the electrostatic potential distribution of the phonon mode tends to be more and more localized at a certain interface or surface, meanwhile, the coupling between the electron-IO and -SO phonons becomes weaker.  相似文献

We consider changes in the electron-phonon coupling in high-T c cuprates caused by site-selective oxygen isotope substitution. Contrary to the total substitution, the site-selective replacement influences the coupling constant for each phonon mode due to the induced changes in the phonon eigenvectors. The relative changes for some modes can be larger than 100%. The measured properties sensitive to these changes are discussed. Based on the macroscopic dielectric continuum model and Loudon’s uniaxial crystal model, the polar optical phonon modes of a quasi-0-dimensional (Q0D) wurtzite spherical nanocrystal embedded in zinc-blende dielectric matrix are derived and studied. It is found that there are two types of polar phonon modes, i.e. interface optical (IO) phonon modes and the quasi-confined (QC) phonon modes coexisting in Q0D wurtzite ZnO nanocrystal embedded in zinc-blende MgO matrix. Via solving Laplace equations under spheroidal and spherical coordinates, the unified and analytical phonon states and dispersive equations of IO and QC modes are derived. Numerical calculations on a wurtzite/zinc-blende ZnO/MgO nanocrystal are performed. The frequency ranges of the IO and QC phonon modes of the ZnO/MgO nanocrystals are analyzed and discussed. It is found that the IO modes only exist in one frequency range, while QC modes may appear in three frequency ranges. The dispersive frequencies of IO and QC modes are the discrete functions of orbital quantum numbers l and azimuthal quantum numbers m. Moreover, a pair of given l and m corresponds to one IO mode, but to more than one branches of QC. The analytical phonon states and dispersive equations obtained here are quite useful for further investigating Raman spectra of phonons and other relative properties of wurtzite/zinc-blende Q0D nanocrystal structures.  相似文献

Rayleigh-Schr?dinger perturbation theory and an improved Wigner-Brillouin perturbation theory has been used to study the cyclotron resonance of the polarons in ternary mixed crystals in the zero-temperature limit. The interaction between an electron and two branches of longitudinal optical phonon modes is taken into account in the framework of the random-element-isodisplacement model. The numerical results for several ternary mixed crystals show that the polaronic cyclotron energy and mass split successively twice related to the higher and lower branches of longitudinal optical phonon modes of ternary mixed crystals. A non-linear dependence of the polaronic cyclotron energy and mass on the composition x is found. The charge-ordered perovskite Pr0.65Ca0.28Sr0.07MnO3 was investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, dielectric and optical spectroscopy and electron-spin resonance techniques. Under moderate magnetic fields, the charge order melts yielding colossal magnetoresistance effects with changes of the resistivity over eleven orders of magnitude. The optical conductivity is studied from audio frequencies far into the visible spectral regime. Below the phonon modes hopping conductivity is detected. Beyond the phonon modes the optical conductivity is explained by polaronic excitations out of a bound state. ESR techniques yield detailed informations on the (H,T ) phase diagram and reveal a broadening of the linewidth which can be modeled in terms of activated polaron hopping. A simple model is developed to understand superconductivity in α -TTF[Pd(dmit)2]2. We include electron-intra molecular and intermolecular phonon interactions as the mechanism of superconductivity. Intramolecular vibrations included are the eight symmetric Ag modes of the Pd(dmit)2 molecule. Intermolecular vibrations included are the longitudinal acoustic and transverse acoustic (LA and TA) modes of the Pd(dmit)2 column. All the electron-phonon coupling constants are calculated from first principles. We find that largest el-intramolecular vibration coupling is to the Ag mode with the highest frequency (1449 cm-1). The el-intermolecular coupling to the LA mode is found to be larger than the total el-intramolecular couplings. We also find el-(TA)phonon coupling to be at least an order of magnitude smaller than el-(LA)phonon coupling. Estimate of superconducting transition temperature is comparable to experimental result. We also provide a detailed discussion, employing the results of recent numerical calculations on two-chain Hubbard model and the specific material parameters, on the relative importance of el-ph and Coulomb-origin mechanisms of superconductivity in α -TTF[Pd(dmit)2]2 and TTF[Ni(dmit) 2 ] 2 . The polar interface optical (IO) and surface optical (SO) phonon modes and the corresponding Froehlich electron phonon-interaction Hamiltonian in a freestanding multi-layer wurtzite cylindrical quantum wire (QWR) are derived and studied by employing the transfer matrix method in the dielectric continuum approximation and Loudon's uniaxial crystal model. A numerical calculation of a freestanding wurtzite GaN/AlN QWR is performed. The results reveal that for a relatively large azimuthal quantum number m or wave-number kz in the free z-direction, there exist two branches of IO phonon modes localized at the interface, and only one branch of SO mode localized at the surface in the system. The degenerating behaviours of the IO and SO phonon modes in the wurtzite QWR have also been clearly observed for a small kz or m. The limiting frequency properties of the IO and SO modes for large kz and m have been explained reasonably from the mathematical and physical viewpoints. The calculations of electron-phonon coupling functions show that the high-frequency IO phonon branch and SO mode play a more important role in the electron phonon interaction.  相似文献

We have performed a first-principles study of structural, dynamical, and dielectric properties of the chalcopyrite semiconductor CuInS2. The calculations have been carried out within the local density functional approximation using norm-conserving pseudopotentials and a plane-wave basis. Born effective charge tensors, dielectric permitivity tensors, the phonon frequencies at the Brillouin zone center and mode oscillator strengths are calculated using density functional perturbation theory. The calculated properties agree with infrared and Raman measurements. Phonon conductivity in intermediately doped n-type silicon still remains unexplained. In this paper we have calculated the phonon conductivity in Li-doped silicon for Nex < Nc using Mikoshiba's inhomogeneity model. We have introduced spherical polar coordinates for the phonon polarization vectors in Sota and Suzuki's theory in order to take into account the realistic picture of the scattered phonons. Deformation potential for different polarizations λ has been evaluated for the metallic region. Present calculations show that Mikoshiba's inhomogeneity model is able to explain the phonon conductivity of Li-doped silicon having intermediate donor concentration very well. The electron and hole spectra in the spherical potential well created by a double spherical heterostructure are investigated. Two mutually inverse nanoheterosystems are considered: CdS/HgS/H2O and HgS/CdS/H2O. The dependence of the energy levels on the film thickness is calculated for various values of the principal and orbital quantum numbers. In the spectra obtained, the energy levels are pushed apart. We derive a realistic microscopic model for doped colossal magnetoresistance manganites, which includes the dynamics of charge, spin, orbital and lattice degrees of freedom on a quantum mechanical level. The model respects the SU(2) spin symmetry and the full multiplet structure of the manganese ions within the cubic lattice. Concentrating on the hole doped domain ( 0≤x≤0.5) we study the influence of the electron-lattice interaction on spin and orbital correlations by means of exact diagonalisation techniques. We find that the lattice can cause a considerable suppression of the coupling between spin and orbital degrees of freedom and show how changes in the magnetic correlations are reflected in dynamic phonon correlations. In addition, our calculation gives detailed insights into orbital correlations and demonstrates the possibility of complex orbital states. Using a mean-field approximation, we have developed a systematic treatment of collective electronic modes in a semiconductor superlattice (SL) in the presence of strong electric and magnetic fields parallel to the SL axis. The spectrum of collective modes with zero wavevector along the SL axis is shown to consist of a principle magnetoplasmon mode and an infinite set of Bernstein-like modes. For non-zero wavevector along the SL axis, in addition to the cyclotron modes, extra collective modes are found at the frequencies |Nω c±Mω s|, which we call cyclotron-Stark modes (ω c and ω s are respectively the cyclotron and Stark frequencies, N and M are integer numbers). The frequencies of the modes propagating in “oblique” direction with respect to the SL axis show oscillatory behavior as a function of electric field strength. All the modes considered have very weak spatial dispersion and they are not Landau damped. The specific predictions made for the dispersion relations of the collective excitations should be observable in resonant Raman scattering experiments. We have studied the fluorescence of electronically excited OH*, H* and H2O+* dissociation fragments after VUV excitation ( h ν≥11.6 eV) of rare-gas clusters (Rg = Ne, Ar) doped with H2O molecules. In contrast to a free molecule, where Balmer H-series dominate the UV-visible spectra, only the OH * ( A 2 Σ + X 2 Π) emission band is observed in neon clusters. No emission of excited water ions has been observed. We find that while higher excitation energies (Ne vs. Ar) induce higher vibrational excitation of the OH* ( A ) fragment, the rotational temperature is lower. This effect is attributed to the difference in the geometric position of the H2O molecule on the surface or inside the Rg-cluster. The rotational relaxation in neon clusters is rapid while the vibrational relaxation is slow because of the coupling with the low energy matrix phonons. A detailed calculation of interface phonon assisted electron intersubband transition in double GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well structure is presented. Our calculation concentrates on the lowest two subbands which can be designed to be in resonance with a given interface phonon mode. Various phonon mode profiles display quasi-symmetric or quasi-antisymmetric shapes. The quasi-antisymmetric phonon modes give rise to much larger transition rates than those assisted by quasi-symmetric ones. The transition rate reaches a maximum when the subband separation coincides with a given phonon mode energy. The calculation procedure presented here can be easily applied to the design and simulation of other low dimensional semiconductor structures, such as quantum cascade lasers. Eur. Phys. J. B 24, 315 (2001) Here we comment on a recently published paper on the presence of a phason contribution in the low temperature heat capacity data of the charge-density-wave compounds K0.3MoO3 and (TaSe4)2I. We have shown that the anomaly in the C P / T 3 data reported by Odin et al. is straightforwardly interpreted in terms of low energy phonon modes resulting from the peculiar topology of these compounds. SiO2/CdS-nanoparticle composite films (SiO2:CdS=85:15, 80:20, 75:25 and 70:30) were prepared by the sol-gel route. The films were characterized by studying microstructural (XRD and TEM) and optical (transmittance and photoluminescence) properties. Band gaps of these films annealed at different temperatures (373-473 K) for different times (10-120 min) indicated that the signature of nanocrystallinity is retained throughout the range of our experimental conditions. A thermal diffusion process controlled growth in the crystallite size with increasing annealing time and temperature. The average radii of the nanoparticles varied as the cube root of the annealing time but showed exponential dependence on the inverse of annealing temperature. Photoluminescence (PL) studies of the composite films indicated excitonic transitions. Theoretical analysis of the line shapes of the PL peaks recorded at 300 K and 80 K could be accounted for by the combined effects of size distribution and phonon broadening. It was observed that the deformation potential (E d) effectively controlled the line shapes of the PL measurements. By using the transfer matrix method, within the framework of the dielectric continuum approximation, uniform forms for the interface optical (IO) phonon modes as well as the corresponding electron-IO phonon interaction Hamiltonians in n-layer coupling low-dimensional systems (including the coupling quantum well (CQ W), coupling quantum-well wire (CQWW), and coupling quantum dot (CQD)) have been presented. Numerical calculations on the three-layer asymmetrical AIGaAs/GaAs systems are performed, and the analogous characteristics for limited frequencies of IO phonon in the three types of systems (CQW, CQWW, and CQD) when the wave-vector and the quantum number approach zero or infinity are analyzed and specified.  相似文献

We have studied the behavior of the Raman phonons of a stoichiometric LaMnO3 single crystal as a function of temperature in the range between 77 K and 900 K. We focus on the three main phonon peaks of the Pbnm structure, related to the tilt, antisymmetric stretching (Jahn-Teller mode) and stretching modes of Mn-O octahedra. The phonon frequencies show a strong softening that can be fit taking into account their renormalization because of three phonon anharmonic effects in the pseudoharmonic approximation. Thermal expansion effects, in particular the variation of Mn-O bond lengths with temperature, are not relevant above 300 K. On the contrary, phonon width behavior deviates from the three phonon scattering processes well bellow T c . The correlation between the magnitude of the cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion, that disappears at 800 K, and the amplitude of the Raman phonons in the orthorhombic phase is shown. Nevertheless, Pbnm phonons are still observable above this temperature. Phonon width and intensity behavior around T c can be explained by local melting of the orbital order that begins quite below T c and by fluctuations of the regular Mn-O octahedra that correspond to dynamic Jahn-Teller distortions. A continuous liquid flow in a vacuum (a liquid beam) of an aqueous solution of adenine salt containing hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide was irradiated with an intense pulsed IR laser at 3 μm, which is resonant to a vibrational mode related to the OH stretch vibration of H2O. Neutral species isolated into the vacuum were ionized by a pulsed UV laser at 270 nm, and the product ions were mass-analyzed by a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. It is found that AH 2 2 + . 2Cl- and [A-iH] i - . iNa+ (i = 1-3) are isolated in the vacuum from the aqueous acidic and alkaline solutions, respectively, under irradiation of the IR laser, and undergo four-photon ionization involving decomposition and proton transfer of the intermediate species under irradiation of the UV laser.
