Thermonuclear fusion induced by the irradiation of solid deuterated cluster targets and foils with fields of strong femtosecond and picosecond laser pulses is discussed. The thermonuclear-fusion process D(d, n)3He in a collision of two deuterons at an energy of 50 to 100 keV in a deuterium cluster target irradiated with a strong laser pulse is discussed. A theory of thermonuclear fusion proceeding upon the irradiation of clusters formed by deuterium iodide (DI) molecules with the field of a superintense femtosecond laser pulse is developed. This theory is based on an above-barrier process in which the sequential multiple inner ionization of atomic ions within a cluster is accompanied by field-induced outer ionization. The yield of neutrons from thermonuclear fusion in a deuteron-deuteron collision after the completion of a laser pulse is calculated. The yield of neutrons is determined for the thermonuclear-fusion reaction proceeding in the interaction of an intense picosecond laser pulse with thin TiD2 foils. A multiple ionization of titanium atoms at the front edge of the laser pulse is considered. The heating of free electron occurs in induced inverse bremsstrahlung in the process of electron scattering on multiply charged titanium ions. The yield of alpha particles in the thermonuclear-fusion reaction involving protons and 11B nuclei that is induced in microdrops by a strong laser field is determined. Experimental data on laser-induced thermonuclear fusion are discussed.  相似文献

The effects of an absorptive coating on the dynamics of underwater laser-induced shock process have been observed from the end of laser pulse to hundreds of microseconds after irradiation by time-resolved imaging techniques. A laser pulse of 13 ns at 1,064 nm was focused by a 40-mm focal length lens onto the surface of epoxy-resin blocks immersed in water to induce the shock process in the confining regime. A custom-designed time-resolved photoelasticity imaging technique and a high-speed laser stroboscopic videography technique in photoelasticity mode were used to analyze the evolution of shock waves in the water phase, the strength of stress waves in the solid phase, the oscillation of cavitation bubbles, and the generation of bubble-collapse-induced shock waves. We showed that black paint coating enhances the strength of laser-induced stress wave inside the solid, drives faster shock waves traveling in the water phase, and produces higher-energy cavitation bubbles. We propose that even at power densities of 1 GW/cm2 and above, an absorptive coating can intensify the shock process by enhancing the absorption of laser energy by plasma.  相似文献

The energies of a shock wave generated in different metals under irradiation by a high-power laser beam were determined experimentally. The experiments were performed with the use of targets prepared from a number of metals, such as aluminum, copper, silver and lead (which belong to different periods of the periodic table) under irradiation by pulses of the first and third harmonics of the PALS iodine laser at a radiation intensity of approximately 1014 W/cm2. It was found that, for heavy metals, like for light solid materials, the fraction of laser radiation energy converted into the energy of a shock wave under irradiation by a laser pulse of the third harmonic considerably (by a factor of 2–3) exceeds the fraction of laser radiation energy converted under irradiation by a laser pulse of the first harmonic. The influence of radiation processes on the efficiency of conversion of the laser energy into the energy of the shock wave was analyzed.  相似文献

It is widely recognized that Nd:YAG can increase enamel resistance to demineralization; however, the safe parameters and conditions that enable the application of Nd:YAG laser irradiation in vivo are still unknown. The aim of this study was to determine a dye as a photoabsorber for Nd:YAG laser and to verify in vitro a safe condition of Nd:YAG irradiation for caries prevention. Fifty-eight human teeth were selected. In a first morphological study, four dyes (waterproof India ink., iron oxide, caries indicator and coal paste) were tested before Nd:YAG laser irradiation, under two different irradiation conditions: 60 mJ/pulse and 10 Hz (84.9 J/cm2); 80 mJ/pulse and 10 Hz (113.1 J/cm2). In a second study, the enamel surface and pulp chamber temperatures were evaluated during laser irradiations. All dyes produced enamel surface melting, with the exception of the caries indicator, and coal paste was the only dye that could be completely removed. All irradiation conditions produced temperature increases of up to 615.08°C on the enamel surface. Nd:YAG laser irradiation at 60 mJ/pulse, 10 Hz and 84.9 J/cm2 promoted no harmful temperature increase in the pulp chamber (ANOVA, p < 0.05). Among all dyes tested, the coal paste was an efficient photoabsorber for Nd:YAG irradiation, considered feasible for clinical practice. Nd:YAG laser at 84.9 J/cm2 can be indicated as a safe parameter for use in caries prevention.  相似文献

Investigations on the laser irradiation effects on gold are explored in terms of plasma-plume dynamics and morphological and crystallographic changes. Annealed 4N gold samples were irradiated with a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (53 mJ, 21 MW, 532 nm, and pulse width 6–8 ns) for plume dynamics using 10-ns gated fast photography. A Q-switched pulsed Nd:YAG laser (10 mJ, 1.1 MW, 1064 nm, and pulse width 9 ns) was used to irradiate the surface of the samples for morphological and crystallographic studies of laser-irradiated gold in a vacuum ~10?3 Torr. The annealed samples were exposed to 50 shots of a Nd:YAG laser (10 mJ, 1.1 MW, 1064 nm, and pulse width 9 ns). The investigation on the plume was done by using an intensified charged-couple device ICCD-5760/IR-UV camera. The morphological investigation of the irradiated surface was carried out by analyzing micrographs obtained using an Hitachi S 3000 H scanning-electron microscope (SEM). The crystallographic studies of the irradiated samples were performed by analyzing the XRD patterns obtained using an X’ Pert Pro Pan Analytical X-ray diffractometer. The investigation on gated ICCD images of the plume reveal that, at very earlier times, the plasma-plume expansion has a linear trend, whereas, at later times, the plasma-plume expansion is nonuniform. SEM micrographs exhibit the primary mechanisms of pulsed-laser ablation (PLA), such as hydrodynamic sputtering, thermal sputtering, exfoliation sputtering, and splashing. The surface morphology was explained in terms of crater formation, swelling, burning, nucleation, grain growth, and nonsymmetric heat conduction. The nonuniform thermal expansion of gold due to thermal-energy transfer is also studied by SEM micrographs, which was supported by XRD analysis. The structural analysis on the basis of XRD shows that the composition of the irradiated samples is not disturbed even after laser irradiation. The grain sizes also changed due to laser irradiation.  相似文献

Investigation of the process of nanohole formation on silicon surface mediated with near electromagnetic field enhancement in vicinity of gold particles is described. Gold nanospheres with diameters of 40, 80 and 200 nm are used. Irradiation of the samples with laser pulse at fluences below the ablation threshold for native Si surface, results in a nanosized surface modification. The nanostructure formation is investigated for the fundamental (λ = 800 nm, 100 fs) and the second harmonic (λ = 400 nm, 250 fs) of the laser radiation generated by ultrashort Ti:sapphire laser system. The near electric field distribution is analyzed by an Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) simulation code. The properties of the produced morphological changes on the Si surface are found to depend strongly on the polarization and the wavelength of the laser irradiation. When the laser pulse is linearly polarized the produced nanohole shape is elongated in the E-direction of the polarization. The shape of the hole becomes symmetrical when the laser radiation is circularly polarized. The size of the ablated holes depends on the size of the gold particles, as the smallest holes are produced with the smallest particles. The variation of the laser fluence and the particle size gives possibility of fabricating structures with lateral dimensions ranging from 200 nm to below 40 nm. Explanation of the obtained results is given on the basis simulations of the near field properties using FDTD model and Mie's theory.  相似文献

A method to generate a pulse sound source for acoustic tests based on nanosecond laser ablation with a plasma plume is discussed. Irradiating a solid surface with a laser beam expands a high-temperature plasma plume composed of free electrons, ionized atoms, etc. at a high velocity throughout ambient air. The shockwave generated by the plasma plume becomes the pulse sound source. A laser ablation sound source has two features. Because laser ablation is induced when the laser fluence reaches 1012–1014 W/m2, which is less than that for laser-induced breakdown (1015 W/m2), laser ablation can generate a lower sound pressure, and the sound source has a hemispherical radiation pattern on the surface where laser ablation is generated. Additionally, another feature is that laser-induced breakdown sound sources can fluctuate, whereas laser ablation sound sources do not because laser ablation is produced at a laser beam–irradiation point. We validate this laser ablation method for acoustic tests by comparing the measured and theoretical resonant frequencies of an impedance tube.  相似文献

We use surface-femtosecond laser mass spectrometry to study the fragments/products formed when trinitrotoluene (TNT) is subjected to femtosecond laser pulse irradiation and to study the conditions under which TNT is removed from a solid surface. In surface-femtosecond laser mass spectrometry a compound is deposited on a solid substrate and is desorbed into vacuum by femtosecond irradiation forming a plume of ionized and neutral species. The positive or negative ions are then accelerated by an electric potential and allowed to drift in the field-free region of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The mass-to-charge ratio of each ion is obtained using the value of the accelerating field and the ion flight time. In this paper we report femtosecond laser mass spectra for the positive ions formed by desorbing TNT with 130 fs pulses centered at 800 nm for fluences ranging from 7 to 1.4 × 105 J/m2. The conditions under which TNT removal and ionization occur are also discussed.  相似文献

The comparative efficiency and beam characteristics of high-energy ions generated from the interaction of a petawatt laser pulse with thin foil target and a small solid-density plasma bunch target have been studied by particle-in-cell simulation under identical conditions. It is shown that thin foil and small solid dense target of micrometer size can be efficiently accelerated when irradiated by a laser pulse of intensity >1021?W/cm2. Using direct beam measurements, we find that small solid dense target acceleration produces higher energy particles with smaller divergence and a higher efficiency compared to thin foil target acceleration. The merits of small solid target acceleration can be exploited for potential applications such as its role as ignitor for fast ignition in inertial confinement fusion.  相似文献

Heating and explosive destruction of the near surface volume of metal with initial micro-porosity under nanosecond laser pulse is simulated. It is shown that presence of initial micro-porosity may influence and modify the ejection mechanisms from melt and from solid phase. Thermal and gas dynamic processes in a gas bubble growing in laser irradiated melt are analysed. Experiments show rather different surface morphology defined by micro-explosions and melt ejection for different metals. Possible explosion of micro-pores and solid particles release under nanosecond laser irradiation is analysed for metals with high melting point. It is shown that the stress attains the values that are close to the damage threshold.  相似文献
