The Gd(0001) surface is investigated by pump–probe experiments using femtosecond laser pulses at 740–860 nm wavelength. Employing optical second-harmonic generation, spin and lattice dynamics are separated through the symmetry of optical field contributions that are even and odd with respect to magnetization reversal. A coherent phonon–magnon mode at a frequency of 3 THz that is excited through the exchange-split surface state is observed in the time domain. A magneto-elastic phonon–magnon interaction based on spin–orbit coupling is weak for Gd and a modulation of the exchange interaction mediated by the lattice vibration is proposed as a microscopic interaction mechanism of this coupled mode. In parallel, electron–electron and electron–phonon interactions and their magnetic counterparts lead to incoherent dynamics of the electron, lattice, and spin subsystems. Variation of the optical wavelength shows that for longer wavelengths up to 860 nm the coherent mode dominates, while for shorter ones (≥740 nm) incoherent contributions prevail. This dependence indicates that selective depopulation of the occupied surface state component drives the coherent excitation. However, temperature-dependent studies show that the oscillation amplitude of even and odd contributions scales with the spin polarization of the surface state, suggesting that the spin dependence of the ion potentials contributes as well. Furthermore, the frequency of the coherent mode presents a blue shift with a delay of 0.17 THz/ps that saturates at the static frequency of the respective bulk phonon. This behavior is a consequence of equilibration of the screened ion potential at the surface subsequent to the intense laser excitation. PACS 78.47.+p; 63.22.+m; 63.20.Ls; 75.30.Ds  相似文献

A new technology for generating steady state, brilliant, broadband, coherent, far-infrared (FIR) radiation in electron storage rings is presented, suitable for FIR spectroscopy. An FIR power increase of up to 100 000 compared to the normal, incoherent synchrotron radiation in the range of approximately 5 to approximately 40 cm(-1) could be achieved. The source is up to 1000 times more brillant compared to a standard Hg arc lamp. The coherent synchrotron radiation is produced in a "low alpha" optics mode of the synchrotron light source BESSY, by bunch shortening and non-Gaussian bunch deformation.  相似文献

Bose-Einstein condensation of magnons in superfluid 3He-B is experimentally manifested by various states where coherent spin precession is established spontaneously, even in nonhomogeneous magnetic fields. Once such a condensate with coherent spin precession is created, it occupies the state with minimal energy, the ground state. The application of an additional magnetic field to that condensate may cause its deflection from the energy minimum and the condensate responds by creating collective gapless oscillations known as Goldstone modes. This Letter reports the experimental observation of a new (non-)Goldstone mode, which can be viewed as an additional NMR mode of condensed magnons in a rotating frame of reference.  相似文献

采用关联表象变分波函数方案, 介入三个非经典关联效应, 求解有限温度双能态自旋-晶格声子耦合量子隧道系统的非经典态, 着重研究化解由于粒子自旋-单声子相互作用引起的量子涨落导致双能态系统的退相干性量子耗散. 这三个非经典关联效应是: 1) 声子位移-粒子自旋 (σz)间强非绝热关联; 2) 声子压缩态效应及其伴随发生的单声子相干态-声子压缩态两过程相干效应; 3) 由关联表象导致的声子位移(UD)与声子压缩(US)的表象关联非绝热修正. 结果表明: 由于引入粒子自旋-双声子相互作用, 大幅度地增强了声子场压缩态, 特别是更进一步极大幅度地增强了非经典压缩-相干态效应. 因此, 由粒子自旋-单声子相互作用产生的Debye-Walle相干弹性散射效应导致量子隧道项(-Δ0σx)的强烈指数衰减及其伴随严重的量子相干损失的极大幅度的抑制, 并且自旋-晶格声子耦合量子隧道系统的非经典态能量大幅度降低. 关键词: 非经典能态 量子隧穿相干损失 自旋-双声子相互作用 压缩相干态效应  相似文献

Using a novel technique, we make quantitative measurements of the spin polarization of dilute [ (3.4-6.8)x10(10) cm(-2)] GaAs (311)A two-dimensional holes as a function of an in-plane magnetic field. As the field is increased the system gradually becomes spin polarized, with the degree of spin polarization depending on the orientation of the field relative to the crystal axes. Moreover, the behavior of the system turns from metallic to insulating before it is fully spin polarized. The minority-spin population at the transition is approximately 8x10(9) cm(-2), close to the density below which the system makes a transition to an insulating state in the absence of a magnetic field.  相似文献

We report on the coherent optical excitation of electron spin polarization in the ground state of charged GaAs quantum dots via an intermediate charged exciton (trion) state. Coherent optical fields are used for the creation and detection of the Raman spin coherence between the spin ground states of the charged quantum dot. The measured spin decoherence time, which is likely limited by the nature of the spin ensemble, approaches 10 ns at zero field. We also show that the Raman spin coherence in the quantum beats is caused not only by the usual stimulated Raman interaction but also by simultaneous spontaneous radiative decay of either excited trion state to a coherent combination of the two spin states.  相似文献

A squeezed atomic state is that state of a system of two-level atoms for which the intrinsic quantum noise in a process of measurement is less than the minimum noise obtained by using a spin coherent state. It is shown that such a state is generated in certain time intervals when a non-squeezed atomic state evolves on interaction with a single mode coherent field inside a lossless cavity. The atoms are assumed to undergo one-photon or two-photon transitions between the given two levels. The maximum atomic squeezing is found as a function of the number of atoms and the field strength. The effect of the field-dependent Stark shift is investigated in the case of the atoms undergoing two-photon transitions.  相似文献

The infrared vibration-rotation bands of SeH have been measured in the X(2)Pi ground state using a Fourier transform spectrometer. The bands were observed in a microwave discharge of a mixture of H(2) and Se in the presence of He. The rotational structure of the 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 bands of the X(2)Pi(3/2) spin component and the 1-0 band of X(2)Pi(1/2) spin component has been observed in the 1800-2600 cm(-1) region. The principal ground state molecular constants obtained are omega(e) = 2421.7153(234) cm(-1), omega(e)x(e) = 44.6012(110) cm(-1), omega(e)y(e) = 0.20697(236) cm(-1), B(e) = 7.899187(696) cm(-1), alpha(e) = 0.220749(399) cm(-1), and r(e) = 1.464319(64) ?. In a previous paper, the coherent state representation of spin wave states was used to derive the low temperature expansion for the free energy of the Heisenberg model of a ferromagnet. In this paper, the same formalism is applied to anisotropic systems which are usually described semiclassically. The coherent state parameters are shown to be ideally suited for describing certain of the resulting helical spin configurations. The coherent state approach emphasizes the analogy of these states to superfluid boson systems. A model spin Hamiltonian appropriate to Erbium is chosen and discussed in this light. In particular, the transition in a transverse magnetic field from the ground state cone configuration to a fan configuration, the stability and possible metastability of these states and the fluctuations about them are investigated. Numerical estimates show at least qualitative agreement with experiment.  相似文献

The photon-added spin coherent state as a new kind of coherent state has been defined by iterated actions of the proper raising operator on the ordinary spin coherent state. In this paper, the quantum statistical properties of photon-added spin coherent states such as photon number distribution, second-order correlation function and Wigner function are studied. It is found that the Wigner function shows the negativity in some regions and the second-order correlation function is less than unity. Therefore, the photon-added spin coherent state is a nonclassical state.  相似文献

In an interferometric pump-probe experiment, we demonstrate the phase tuning of the spin polarization of photoelectrons emitted in a three-photon process from Cu(001). A phase shift of pi between delayed ultrafast circularly polarized light pulses can switch the spin polarization from +/-20% to -/+40%. In the delay regime of overlapping pulses, we show the dominating role of optical interference effects in determining the spin polarization. For longer delays, we detect the influence of the coherent material response, manifested in both the final state electron population as well as the final state spin polarization.  相似文献

We experimentally investigate and analyze the rich dynamics in F=2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates of 87Rb. An interplay between mean-field driven spin dynamics and hyperfine-changing losses in addition to interactions with the thermal component is observed. In particular, we measure conversion rates in the range of 10(-12) cm(3) s(-1) for spin-changing collisions within the F=2 manifold and spin-dependent loss rates in the range of 10(-13) cm(3) s(-1) for hyperfine-changing collisions. We observe polar behavior in the F=2 ground state of 87Rb, while we find the F=1 ground state to be ferromagnetic. We further see a magnetization for condensates prepared with nonzero total spin.  相似文献

A model calculation is presented for the spin wave scattering and coherent transport at the ferrimagnetically ordered cobalt-gadolinium alloy nanojunction between cobalt leads. The structural model for the amorphous alloy nanojunction [Co1/2Gd1/2]3 is considered as an ordered alloy hcp structure of three (0001) atomic planes between the leads. To analyze the spin dynamics and spin wave scattering at the nanojunction boundary, the phase field matching method (PFMT) is implemented over the ground state of the system, in the Heisenberg Hamiltonian representation. The coherent reflection and transmission probabilities of spin waves from the cobalt leads incident onto the nanojunction boundary are calculated, and numerical results are presented for the coherent SW transport across the nanojunction over the entire range of their frequencies. The results are especially valid in the interval between nanometric SW wavelengths greater than the nanojunction width and macroscopic wavelengths. They demonstrate in particular, the possibility of the resonance assisted maxima for the SW transmission spectra owing to the interactions between the incident spin waves and the localized spin resonances on the nanojunction. This effect is general and may be observed at different characteristic frequencies and corresponding incident angles.  相似文献

We observe coherent spin oscillations in an antiferromagnetic spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate of sodium. The variation of the spin oscillations with magnetic field shows a clear signature of nonlinearity, in agreement with theory, which also predicts anharmonic oscillations near a critical magnetic field. Measurements of the magnetic phase diagram agree with predictions made in the approximation of a single spatial mode. The oscillation period yields the best measurement to date of the sodium spin-dependent interaction coefficient, determining that the difference between the sodium spin-dependent s-wave scattering lengths a(f=2) - a(f=0) is 2.47+/-0.27 Bohr radii.  相似文献

We report on a study of the spin relaxation of a strongly correlated two-dimensional electron gas in the nu=2kappa+1 quantum Hall regime. As the initial state we consider a coherent deviation of the spin system from the B direction and investigate a breakdown of this Goldstone-mode (GM) state due to the spin-orbit coupling and smooth disorder. The relaxation is considered in terms of annihilation processes in the system of spin waves. The problem is solved at an arbitrary value of the deviation. We predict that the GM relaxation occurs nonexponentially with time.  相似文献

The spin flip Raman interaction can be used to excite coherent spin precession in semiconductors. Resonant, four-photon mixing is shown to be equivalent to Raman scattering from this coherent state.
