We construct equations of motion for anN-component continuum. The basic assumption is that the dynamical vector field is the sum of two terms: a conservative term, being a Hamiltonian vector field associated with the energy function of the system; and a dissipative term, being a gradient vector field associated with a family of functions. The resulting equations satisfy the usual conservation laws for continuum systems, and, moreover, reduce to the standard fluid equations when the continuum is a fluid.  相似文献

We continue the analysis of the conjugate equation for the generating function of a Gibbs random point field corresponding to a stationary solution of the classical BBGKY hierarchy. This equation was established and partially investigated in the preceding papers under the same title. In the present paper we reduce a general theorem about the form of solutions of the conjugate equation to a statement which relates to a special case where the interacting particles constitute a quasi—one dimensional configuration.  相似文献

Two classes ofn-dimensional lattice sums are shown to exhibit a weak form of a phase transition in their asymptotic properties. Both classes depend on two parameters such that the leading term in an asymptotic limit of one parameter is independent of the structure of the lattice in one domain of the second parameter and dependent on the structure in an adjacent domain, with a boundary point, or transition temperature, between the two domains.  相似文献

The properties of the collective variables m (m=1, 2), T, and P, which are used extensively in high-energy physics, are investigated. It is shown that the variables m are intimately related to the dipole (m=1) and quadrupole (m=2) moments. A general equation is given for calculating the variance of m for azimuth angles having any probability density function; well-known special cases are deduced from this equation. Two collective variables, the oblateness T and the prolateness P, have the property of stability when the momentum distribution of particles in the ground state is symmetric about some axis. It is shown that the foliation of a space-time manifold of codimension 2 provides a basis for the study of the deformation of magnetic field lines. It is found that the fluid flow vector and the curvature vector of a nongeodesic stiff magnetic field line are always orthogonal. Further, it is shown that the metric tensor of the 2-space orthogonal to the Maxwellian string is Lie-transported along the magnetic field lines when the magnetic field lines are stiff. If there exists a spacelike Killing vector field parallel to the magnetic field, then the magnetic field lines must be stiff.  相似文献

An unorthodox cosmology is based on a notion of standpoint, distinguishing past from future, realized through Hilbert-space representation of the complex conformai group for 3+1spacetime and associated coherent states. Physical (approximate) symmetry attaches to eight-parameter complex Poincaré displacements, interpretable as growth of standpoint age (one parameter), boost of matter energy-momentum in standpoint rest frame (three parameters) and displacement of matter location in a compact U(1)O(4)/O(3) spacetime attached to standpoint (four parameters). An initial condition (at big bang) is characterized by a huge dimensionless parameter that breaks dilation invariance. Four major length scales are recognized, called Planck, particle, lab, and Hubble, with separations controlled by ; all physical concepts, including spacetime, depend on wideness of scale separation.  相似文献

Variables are chosen to describe the continuum Yang-Mills fields, a discrete set of group valued variables. These are group elements associated to the sequence of lattice field theory configurations realizing the continuum field. The field is laid down inductively. At each inductive step one of three types of field excitations makes its contribution to the total field. These are either pure modes, averaging correction modes, or chunks. The pure modes are small field excitations, as studied in previous papers in this series [2,3]. The averaging correction modes are small excitations added to make sure the block spin transformation is satisfied at each edge. The chunks, encompassing most of our difficulties, are large field excitations. Topological obstructions in 3(G) must be dealt with in defining a gauge choice for each chunk. The laying down process is complex, but fiendishly clever, ensuring a principle of gauge invariant coupling. Each group valued variable is either the amplitude of a pure mode or an internal variable in a chunk. The amplitude of an averaging correction mode is a dependent variable, a function of the (independent) variables used to describe the field. The (independent) variables herein defined are those whose mutual interaction will later be inductively decoupled in defining the phase cell cluster expansion (of course treating the variables of each chunk as a unit).This work was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. PHY-85-02074  相似文献

The general properties of signals permit a nonaxiomatic reconstruction of the quantum probability formalism independent of the standard Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. Performance standards are specified for candidate clock, signaller, and reflector devices, and it is shown that the resulting formalism forces identification of a probability- or intensity-like structure as the absolute square of an amplitude, the relative phases of amplitudes appearing explicitly in the probability composition law. Inequalities are produced which on one interpretation reduce to the Heisenberg relations, but it is pointed out that this reconstruction disqualifies position as an observable property of a signal.  相似文献

The algebraic structure of exactly solvable equations is reviewed and results are reported which 1) establish that isospectral eigenvalue problems yield hereditary symmetries for bi-Hamiltonian equations and 2) show that if both an equation and its modified equation have known Hamiltonian formulations then their hereditary symmetries and bi-Hamiltonian formulations are readily obtained via their Miura transformation.Invited talk presented at the International Symposium Selected Topics in Quantum Field Theory and Mathematical Physics, Bechyn, Czechoslovakia, June 14–19, 1981.  相似文献

It has been proposed that some posets of quantum logic could be embedded into lattices in order to recover the lattice structure avoiding the introduction of ad hoc axioms. We consider here the embedding s of any posetS into the complete lattice s of its closed ideals (normal embedding ofS) and show that s can be characterized (up to a lattice isomorphism) either by means of a density property or by means of a minimality property. Both of these suggest that the normal embedding satisfies some intuitive conditions which make it preferable with respect to other possible embeddings ofS. We consider the poset of all the effects associated to yes-no experiments and briefly comment on the application of the normal embedding in this case. Two-particle complexes in ferromagnets with hyperfine electronic-nuclear coupling have been studied. The secular equation has been obtained and analysed (with numerical methods as well) in the middle and in the end of the Brillouin zone for 1- and 3-dimensional lattices (of s.c. structure). The existence of new types of complexes (nuclear-nuclear and electronic-nuclear) in strongly anisotropic systems has been established.  相似文献

Using the random phase approximation and analytical calculation we show that a higher surface plasma mode can exist near a plane metal-vacuum interface provided the oscillation is sufficiently localized. This conclusion is confirmed for the infinite potential barrier model of the surface where a mode with long-wavelength frequency p in sodium is predicted.  相似文献

A model for concentrated polymer system is proposed. Dynamics of the chain segments is described by a discrete Langevin equation. The Langevin equation has the same structure as the recursion relation for the generalized random walks (GRW). Motions of the chain segments described by the GRW have two different types of jumping probabilities: rapidly varying parts and slowly varying parts. Based on a postulate for the recursion relation, an interplay between the motions arisen from these characteristic behaviors is given explicitly and studied.  相似文献

Quite often the compatibility of the EPR correlations with the relativity theory has been questioned; it has been stated that the first in time of two correlated measurements instantaneously collapses the other subsystem; it has been suggested that a causal asymmetry is built into the Feynman propagator. However, the EPR transition amplitude, as derived from the S matrix, is Lorentz andCPT invariant; the correlation formula is symmetric in the two measurements irrespective of their time ordering, so that the link of the correlations is the Feynman zigzag, and that causality isCPT invariant at the microlevel; finally, although the Feynman propagator has theP andCT symmetries, no causal asymmetry follows from that. As for Stapp's views concerning process and becoming, and his Whiteheadean concept of an advancing front, I object that they belong to factlike macrophysics, and are refuted at the microlevel by the EPR phenomenology, which displays direct Fokker-like space-time connections. The reason for this is a radical one. The very blending of a space-time picture and of a probability calculus is a paradox. The only adequate paradigm is one denying objectivity to space-time—but this, of course, is also required by the complementary of the x and the k pictures, which only look compatible at the macrolevel. Therefore, the classical objectivity must yield in favor of intersubjectivity. Only the macroscopic preparing and measuring devices have factlike objectivity; the transition of the quantal system takes place beyond both thex and thek 4-spaces. Then, the intrinsic symmetries between retarded and advanced waves, and statistical prediction and retrodiction, entails that the future has no less (but no more) existence than the past. It is the future that is significant in creative process, the elementary forms of which should be termed precognition or psychokinesis—respectively symmetric to the factlike taboos that we can neither know into the future nor act into the past. It is gratifying that Robert Jahn, at the Engineering School of Princeton University, is conducting (after others) conclusive experiments demonstrating low level psychokinesis—a phenomenon implied by the very symmetry of the negentropy-information transition. So, what pierces the veil of maya is the (rare) occurrence of paranormal phenomena. The essential severance between act and potentia is not a spacelike advancing front, but the out of and the into factlike space-time. Finally, I do not feel that an adequate understanding of the EPR phenomenology requires going beyond the present status of relativistic quantum mechanics. Rather, I believe that the potentialities of this formalism have not yet been fully exploited.  相似文献

A consistent relativistic theory of the classical Maxwell field interacting with classical, charged, point-like particles is proposed. The theory is derived from a classical soliton-like model of an extended particle. An approximation procedure for such a model is developed, which leads to an already renormalized formula for the total four-momentum of the system composed of fields and particles. Conservation of this quantity leads to a theory which is universal (i.e. does not depend upon a specific model we start with) and which may be regarded as a simple and necessary completion of special relativity. The renormalization method proposed here may be considered as a realization of Einstein's idea of deriving equations of motion from field equations. It is shown that the Dirac's 3-dots equation does not describe a fundamental law of physics, but only a specific family of solutions of our theory, corresponding to a specific choice of the field initial data.  相似文献

A derivation by Fröhner of non-relativistic quantum mechanics via Fourier analysis applied to probability theory is not extendable to relativistic quantum mechanics because Schrödinger's positive definite probability density * is lost (Dirac's spin 1/2 case being the exception). The nature of the Fourier link then changes; it points to a redefinition of the probability scheme as an information carrying telegraph, the code of which is Born's as extended by Dirac and by Feynman. Hermitian symmetry of the transition amplitude between Dirac representations expresses reciprocity of preparation and measurement (the quantal coding and decoding), two equally active interventions of the physicist; as the measurement perturbs the system retrodiction implies retroaction evidenced in delayed choice. Reciprocity of knowledge and organization vindicates Wigner's claim that reciprocal to the action of matter upon mind there exists a direct action of mind upon matter: psychokinesis, branded by Jaynes as a psychiatric disorder of the Copenhagen school. As for factlike irreversibility, it is expressed by the enormity of the change rate from information to negentropy: while gain in knowledge is normal psychokinesis is paranormal. Stapp's recent discussion of psychokinesis in a quantum context should be resumed in association with an EPR correlation; an experimental test is proposed.  相似文献

I sketch a self-contained framework for quantum mechanics based on its path-integral or sum-over-histories formulation. The framework is very close to that for classical stochastic processes like Brownian motion, and its interpretation requires neither measurement nor state-vector as a basic notion. The rules for forming probabilities are nonclassical in two ways: they use complex amplitudes, and they (apparently unavoidably) require one to truncate the histories at a collapse time, which can be chosen arbitrarily far into the future. Adapting this framework to gravity yields a formulation of quantum gravity with a fully spacetime character, thereby overcoming the frozen nature of the canonical formalism. Within the proposed adaptation, the value of the collapse time is identified with total elapsed spacetime four-volume. Interestingly, this turns the cosmological constant into an essentially classical constant of integration, removing the need for microscopic fine tuning to obtain an experimentally viable value for it. Some implications of the V = T rule for quantum cosmology are also discussed.  相似文献

A general strategy is advanced for simplifying nonlinear optimization problems, the ant-lion method. This approach exploits shape modifications of the cost-function hypersurface which distend basins surrounding low-lying minima (including global minima). By intertwining hypersurface deformations with steepest-descent displacements, the search is concentrated on a small relevant subset of all minima. Specific calculations demonstrating the value of this method are reported for the partitioning of two classes of irregular but nonrandom graphs, the prime-factor graphs and the pi graphs. We also indicate how this approach can be applied to the traveling salesman problem and to design layout optimization, and that it may be useful in combination with simulated annealing strategies.  相似文献
