In this Letter, the fabrication and characterization of a microsphere resonator from the semiconductor germanium is demonstrated. Whispering gallery modes are excited in a 46 μm diameter germanium microsphere resonator using evanescent coupling from a tapered silica optical fiber with a waist diameter of 2 μm. Resonances with Q factors as high as 3.8×10(4) at wavelengths near 2 μm are observed. Because of their ultrahigh optical nonlinearities and extremely broad transparency window, germanium microsphere resonators offer the potential for optical processing devices, in particular at long wavelengths, such as around 2 μm.  相似文献

基于谐振式光学陀螺高灵敏度、低成本与微型化的发展需求, 为了实现高灵敏度的谐振式微光机电陀螺, 提出了以集成光学微谐振腔领域里高Q值、大直径谐振腔的制作为目标, 应用方向为谐振式光学陀螺的球形光学微谐振腔核心敏感单元. 在实验中以氢火焰作为热源采用熔融法制备球形光学微谐振腔. 通过调节氢气的流量控制氢火焰热源面积, 制备了不同直径(300-2200 μm)的球形谐振腔, 分析了球形谐振腔Q 值、DQ乘积、陀螺灵敏度与谐振腔直径D的对应关系及其原因, 获得了最优参数的面向谐振式光学陀螺的球形谐振腔敏感单元. D=1260 μm时, 球腔品质因数 Q=7.18×107, 得到的最优陀螺灵敏度约为10°/h, 满足商业级应用的需求, 为芯片级、高精度、低成本的新型谐振式光学微腔陀螺的研究奠定了实验基础.  相似文献

The effect of modulation caused by a microsphere resonator is experimentally investigated with a model system consisting of a microsphere resonator and a plane substrate. We used total internal reflection microscopy (TIRM), which is a combination of conventional optical microscopy and the total internal reflection method, and observed the intensity distribution under the resonator in the evanescent-wave incidence condition. The TIRM patterns drastically change when the wavelength of the incident beam is scanned across a resonance. The response of the system is discussed on the basis of a recent proposal of traveling-wave resonance.  相似文献

提出并实现了一种可增强微球谐振腔热非线性效应的方法。通过在微球谐振腔表面涂覆低折射率紫外胶形成并制备了混合谐振腔。通过分析混合谐振腔结构的热光系数,从理论和实验论证了混合谐振腔结构可获得更大的热非线性效应,同时验证了混合谐振腔的品质因素对热非线性的影响。应用此混合谐振腔结构于温度传感实验,结果表明通过增强方法制备的谐振腔其检测灵敏度提高了2.8倍。因此,此方法在传感应用、生物化学检测、通讯等领域也有广泛的应用前景。  相似文献

A ring resonator coupled to a waveguide can be used as a highly efficient polarization converter when the input is properly polarized. We model this phenomenon and verify the predictions with a demonstration of very efficient polarization conversion (>90%) on a silica microsphere coupled to a tapered optical fiber.  相似文献

Shift of resonance frequency in microsphere optical resonator due to attachment of a desirable particle is obtained. Our 3-D finite element numerical method (FEM) simulations’ results show the path of light through microsphere and its variation due to attachment of particle. It is apparent that after attachment of particle to microsphere's surface, light is inclined to pass through the particle. Subsequently, the path of light becomes longer than previous. Because of this phenomenon, the resonance wavelength shifts to longer wavelengths. It is shown that microsphere optical resonator is a prominent biosensor for single virus detection since we applied characteristics of virus for particle in our simulations. Response of this biosensor depends on the characteristics of particle like its radius as we show in this article. Transmission spectrum of fiber which reveals a selected resonance frequency, have been studied in the frequency range of 106.3 to 107 THz under three different sizes of particles. The results show that the amount of frequency shift rises by enhancement of particle's size.  相似文献

A third-order optical nonlinear effect in a spherical glass resonator doped with Sm(3+) ions has been observed on stimulated emission lines of the (4)G(5/2)-(6)H(7/2) transition, in which the excitation beam of an Ar(+) laser in a 488-nm single line is coupled with the glass resonator through a prism. A spherical form is produced during a free fall of fractional glasses in a longitudinal electric furnace configured vertically. The prism-coupled glass microsphere exhibits sufficient performance to confine photon energy as a resonance of light inside the sphere and offers the prospect of new applications to functional photonic circuits.  相似文献

A micrometer-sized nonlinear optical resonator constituted of a silica microsphere coated with J-aggregates has been fabricated by the sol-gel process. We determined the scattering light spectrum and discuss the application of the observed effect for the realization of an optical switching element. Optical evaluation of the sphere has been performed in the attenuated-total-reflection (ATR) configuration. We excited a whispering gallery mode and measured the nonlinear ATR signal dependence on excitation intensity. The experimental result agrees very well with the simulation results obtained using the Mie theory and the finite-difference time-domain method taking into account optical Kerr nonlinearity. The permittivity of the film of J-aggregates was measured by ATR method at several wavelengths and the value at the desired wavelength was determined by extrapolation using the Lorentz function.  相似文献

This paper presents a first comprehensive study on the pointing stability of copper vapor laser with an emphasis on bringing out the role of optical resonator. Long term (∼10 min), single pulse, far-field beam pointing stability of a 5.5 kHz repetition rate copper vapor laser (λ = 510 nm) with plane-plane, unstable and filtering resonators, is studied. It is established that the resonator optics largely decides the CVL pointing stability. Minimum beam pointing angle of 8 μrad from generalized diffraction filtered resonator (GDFR) is obtained in contrast to a maximum value of 120 μrad from the plane-plane resonator. The unstable resonators data is in between. The relative trends in CVL pointing stability are discussed in terms of wave-front distortions due to resonator mode build up from optical noise, thermal and mirror misalignment effects. The degree of optical resonator immunity to phase distortions dictates the net pointing stability achieved.  相似文献

A microsphere or resonator that is side coupled to an incident optical beam induces a phase response in the beam. In the so-called overcoupled regime, the amplitude of the incident beam remains unmodulated, whereas the phase goes through a shift of p at resonance. This shift is insensitive to the details of the coupling geometry or the resonant mode. In conjunction with an interferometer, the phase response can be used to switch the beam between two well-defined outputs, thus offering a robust means of deploying microspheres and other microresonators in practical photonic devices.  相似文献

We have tuned the whispering-gallery modes of a fused-silica microresonator over nearly 1 nm at 800 nm, i.e., over half a free spectral range, or 10(6) linewidths of the resonator. This result has been achieved by use of a new method based on the stretching of a two-stem microsphere. We describe devices that will permit new cavity QED experiments with this high- Q optical resonator when it is desirable to optimize its coupling to emitters with given transition frequencies. The demonstrated tuning capability is compatible with both UHV and low-temperature operation, which should be useful for future experiments with laser-cooled atoms or single quantum dots.  相似文献

We present the observation of critical coupling in a high- Q fused-silica microsphere whispering-gallery mode resonator coupled to a fiber taper. Extremely efficient and controlled power transfer to high- Q ( approximately 10(7)) resonators has been demonstrated. Off-resonance scattering loss was measured to be less than 0.3%. On-resonance extinction in transmitted optical power through the fiber coupler was measured as high as 26 dB at the critical coupling point. This result opens up a range of new applications in fields as diverse as near-field sensing and quantum optics.  相似文献

We demonstrate the photorefractive tuning of the whispering gallery modes of a single BaTiO3 microsphere resonator integrated inside a grapefruit-shaped microstructured optical fibre, upon CW laser irradiation at 532 nm while using irradiation intensities up to 5.5 W/cm2. Temporal evolution results of the WGM spectra are provided with respect to the illumination and relaxation conditions applied.  相似文献

In an optomechanical resonator, the optical and mechanical excitations can be coherently converted, which induces a transparency window for a weak probe laser beam. Here, we report an experimental study of transient optomechanically induced transparency(OMIT) using the silica microsphere with the breathing modes. The transient OMIT behavior obtained are in good agreement with theoretical calculations. In addition, the coherent interconversion between optical and mechanical excitations that can be used for light storage and readout has also been studied here. Our experimental results indicate that the light storage is closely related to the process of OMIT, and the photon-phonon conversion can be further applied to optical wavelength or optical mode conversion.  相似文献

A multi-wavelength microsphere laser system, using a chirped fibre Bragg grating and a microsphere resonator as wavelength-selective elements and a high dopant erbium doped fibre as the gain material, has been successfully demonstrated. The multi-wavelength generation of the laser system arises from both the microsphere whispering gallery mode selection and from the additional Raman scattering inside the microsphere cavity when the erbium laser is operating at resonance with the whispering gallery modes. Through an appropriate design and fabrication of a microsphere and of a fibre taper, a selective multi-wavelength fibre laser has been realized when the pump power is above threshold required. The laser output lines created have shown much narrower linewidths than those from conventional fibre lasers and these characteristics are particularly suitable for the range of sensor applications envisaged in the work.  相似文献

以熔融淬冷法自制了Tm~(3+)掺杂Ge-Ga-S硫系玻璃,并以此为基质材料,用漂浮粉料熔融法制备了直径分布为50—200μm的高品质因数(Q10~4)的有源硫系玻璃微球谐振腔.在显微镜下优选出一颗表面质量好、球形度较高、直径为72.84μm的微球,与氢氧焰扫描拉锥法制备的一根腰锥直径为1.93μm的石英光纤锥进行近场耦合.根据基质材料的吸收光谱特性,选用808 nm的半导体激光器作为抽运源.实验测得光纤锥倏逝波场激发出了掺Tm~(3+)硫系玻璃微球在1460 nm附近的荧光回廊模式,其典型共振峰间隔为4.39 nm.实验测得的荧光回廊模式与米氏散射理论计算结果符合度较高(最大误差仅为0.047%),验证了本文提出的掺Tm~(3+)硫系微球制备及耦合工艺的可行性.  相似文献

We proposed a two-coupled microsphere resonator structure as the element of angular velocity sensing under the Sagnac effect.We analyzed the theoretical model of the two coupled microspheres,and derived the coupled-resonatorinduced transparency(CRIT) transfer function,the effective phase shift,and the group delay.Experiments were also carried out to demonstrate the CRIT phenomenon in the two-coupled microsphere resonator structure.We calculated that the group index of the two-coupled sphere reaches n_g = 180.46,while the input light at a wavelength of 1550 nm.  相似文献

在氧碘化学激光器(COIL)中,O2(1Δ)与I的近共振传能反应是一个放热反应;它与水汽等的猝灭放热反应一样会对激射过程产生不利影响,而且是不可避免的。计算了猝灭放热效应对光腔气动特性输出功率的影响。得到了近共振传能放热的大小与粒子数反转和激射的光子数相关,即与光腔内的增益、光场强度分布成正比,故主要发生在激光器的上游区前半部分。模型计算表明,其影响程度大致相当于7%水汽所致的对氧碘化学激光器的影响。完善了氧碘化学激光器理论计算模型。  相似文献
