报道了由2N个1 × N 多模干涉马赫-曾德尔光开关组成的N × N光开关阵列结构,分析了这种结构的开关阵列优势和局限性.用场传输矩阵方法建立了1 × N多模干涉光开关的光场传输方程.给出了光开关阵列从任一输入端输入、从任一输出端输出时阵列开关的工作条件.在上述原理及理论基础上分析了4×4光开关阵列的结构和工作条件.  相似文献

本文设计并制作了基于强限制多模干涉耦合器的2×2 SOI马赫-曾德热光开关.这种光开关采用了深刻蚀结构的多模干涉耦合器和输入/输出波导,较大地提高了干涉耦合器的性能并减少了连接耦合损耗.同时,在调制臂区域采用浅刻蚀结构,保持其单模调制状态.深刻蚀多模干涉耦合器具有优越的特性,在实验中测得不均衡度只有0.03 dB,插入损耗-0.6 dB.基于这种耦合器的新型热光开关,其插入损耗为-6.8 dB,其中包括光纤-波导耦合损耗-4.3 dB,开关时间为6.8 μs.  相似文献

提出了一种基于SOI材料的新型3×3多模干涉(MMI)波导光开关,在开关的多模波导中引入折射率调制区,利用硅的等离子色散效应改变多模波导局部区域的折射率,使得光场在传输过程中的相位发生变化,进而确定输出光场位置,实现开关功能。采用有限差分光束传播法(FD-BPM)方法对开关的各个状态进行了模拟和分析,并对器件的结构参量进行了优化设计,采用优化后的结构参量,开关可实现的最大消光比达到-17.27 dB。  相似文献

采用深刻蚀SiO2脊型波导,利用其弯曲半径小的优点,设计了一种紧凑型1×2多模干涉功分器.在输入/输出波导与多模干涉区域之间引入了逆向锥形波导,有效地减小了输出波导间距,从而减小了多模干涉区域宽度及其长度,进一步实现了多模干涉器件的小型化(仅为150 μm×20 μm).并采用三维束传播方法对多模干涉区域及输入/输出波导中的光场传输进行了模拟仿真,得到了一组最优参量设计值,从而实现其结构优化.  相似文献

在密集波分复用系统中,多波长DFB激光器阵列与多模干涉耦合器集成光源器件具有重要的应用前景.为了研制多波长集成光源中的宽带可用低损耗光耦合器,利用三维有限差分光束传播法仿真设计了一种具有强限制作用的InP/InGaAsP材料的多模干涉型耦合器.输入/输出端波导均采用楔形结构以降低多模干涉型耦合器的插入损耗,提高各个输出端口的出光平衡度.根据仿真结果,结合波导芯层为采用外延生长设备,采用反应离子刻蚀工艺制作了1×乘4多模干涉型耦合器.利用自动对准波导耦合测试系统对所制作器件的插入损耗和出光平衡度进行测量.测试结果表明,该器件在1 550 nm波长附近的40 nm带宽范围内获得了约2.6 dB的通带平坦度,在1 550 nm通信波长处,器件的插入损耗低于10 dB.  相似文献

Y分支和多模干涉结构广泛应用于平面光波导器件中,在这些器件中,Y分支和多模干涉结构输出对称性具有重要意义。引入Y分支和多模干涉结构输出的不对称主要原因是这两种结构中产生了一阶导模,设计一种新的耦合器结构,在这个结构中.两根单模波导分别放置在一根多模波导两边,并且单模波导的传播常量与多模波导的一阶模的传播常量相同,这种结构可以将一阶导模滤除。在Y分支和多模干涉结构中使用了这种结构,模拟结果表明,采用这种耦合器的Y分支和多模干涉结构具有非常好的输出对称性。  相似文献

多模干涉(MMI)耦合器需要精确定位成像位置,以便器件的设计制作。针对强限制和弱限制的三维多模波导干涉耦合器,采用三维交替方向隐式有限差分光束传输法(BPM),数值计算得出多模波导长度、输入波导和输出波导位置。首先通过对对称干涉多模干涉耦合器的数值分析求得多模干涉耦合器的等效宽度Weq及最低二阶模之间的拍长Lc,然后将这些参量结合光束传输法直接用于器件设计。计算显示该方法得到的成像位置和导模传输分析法(MPA)的理论预测比较接近,但Weq和Lc却是由光束传输法计算得到的,导模传输分析法理论只能在得到Weq和Lc的前提下才能得到成像位置。该方法直接针对三维波导进行,没有采用基于等效折射率方法的从三维波导到二维波导的简化处理,并且也没有采用导模传输分析法所采用的近似,保证了计算精度,对于实际多模干涉器件的设计制作可起参考作用。  相似文献

To simplify the driving conditions as well as to improve the wavelength response of multileg Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI) based on multimode interference (MMI) couplers we develop a new interpretation of these devices. Used for optical switching and for wavelength filtering, they are shown to work as active or passive integrated prisms. This analogy greatly facilitates the design of such components and simplifies the understanding of their functionality. The driving conditions of optical switches based on such multileg MZI are easility studied and will be reduced to basic active phase shifts. For wavelength filtering applications using such elements, a new design of the phased waveguide array is proposed which improves the characteristics of the filters.  相似文献

报道了一种基于多模干涉(MMI)耦合器的马赫曾德尔干涉仪(MZI)型2×2集成热光开关的实验研究结果,插损为3.40 dB,偏振相关损耗为0.47 dB,直通和交叉状态消光比分别为32.01 dB和16.42 dB,响应时间小于3 ms,开关功耗为658 mW。针对直通和交叉状态消光比不对称的现象,从理论上做出了解释,因为半导体平面光波电路(PLC)工艺一致性较好,两个多模干涉耦合器的分光比虽然因工艺误差偏离50∶50,但误差量相近,这个特点对光开关直通和交叉状态的消光比产生了不同影响。分析了在波导上制作加热电极对波导有效折射率的影响,估算其增量在2×10-4量级。  相似文献

To enlarge the output spectrum, a novel reasonable structure of one kind of Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) electro-optic (EO) switches containing two symmetric N-th order phase generating couplers (PGCs) is presented, and thorough model, analysis and design technique are proposed. A non-linear least square method is investigated for optimizing the PGC structure to eliminate the phase difference error caused by the wavelength variation. Under the central wavelength of 1550 nm, optimization and simulation are performed on three MZI EO switches using two first, second and third order PGCs, respectively. The switches exhibit a low switching voltage of 1.156 V with an active region length of 4 mm. The output spectrums covering the whole S-C-L bands are as wide as 320, 390 and more than 435 nm, respectively, the insertion loss are less than 5.57, 5.98 and 7.90 dB, respectively, and the crosstalk is less than −30 dB over the wide wavelength ranges, for the three designed switches. The design technique is supported to be feasible by the comparison with beam propagation method (BPM).  相似文献

The line-tapered multimode interference (MMI) couplers have advantage of compact dimension compared with conventional straight MMI couplers and then are more suitable for integrated optical components. In this paper, the self-imaging properties including general self-image and overlapping-image properties for the line-tapered MMI couplers are discussed thoroughly. Based on the width equation we defined, compact equations for the positions, amplitudes, phases of general images and overlapping images are deduced. Three disciplines for general self-imaging and four disciplines for overlapping-imaging are summarized and discussed. In addition, the overlapping-image properties are further studied by matrix analytic method and an inductive reasoning method of constructing phase and intensity matrix is developed based on it. Finally, all the theoretical results are compared with simulations results obtained by the finite-difference beam propagation method (FD-BPM). Both theoretical and simulation results are shown in this paper and demonstrated to be coincided with each other to a great extent.  相似文献

We show that it is possible to obtain 2 × 2 couplers based on multimode interference (MMI) structures with nineteen new power-splitting ratios by cascading three or four MMI couplers. The other aim of this study is to use silicon waveguides, that are compatible with the existing CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) fabrication technology, for designing the proposed devices. The proposed MMI couplers with new power splitting ratios have simple geometries and low losses. These MMI couplers can offer valuable new possibilities for designing MMI waveguide-based photonic integrated circuits such as all-optical interconnects, microring resonators, clock distribution, Mach Zehnder Interferometer based on MMI couplers and other all-optical processing applications. The transfer matrix method (TMM) and modified effective index method (MEIM) along with the support of the 3D Beam Propagation Method (3D BPM) are used to optimize the proposed devices.  相似文献

We have realized a first optical filter composed of optical delay lines and couplers that has a periodic response with respect to wavelength, whereas a conventional optical filter is known to have a periodic response to relative optical frequency. This new filter can be constructed by using a phase-generating coupler (PGC) that supplies the optical delay lines with a wavelength-dependent nonlinear phase. The PGC, which is also composed of optical delay lines and couplers, can simultaneously provide a desired phase and an arbitrary amplitude coupling ratio. We applied our transformation method to a conventional Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) as an example of an optical frequency filter and converted it to an optical wavelength filter. We fabricated the designed MZI on a silica-based planar lightwave circuit and successfully realized what is believed to be the first MZI with a uniform wavelength period.  相似文献

The overlapping-imaging effect of one-dimensional (1D) multimode interference (MMI) coupler is widened to study the two-dimensional (2D) MMI coupler. 2D overlapping-image MMI couplers permit uniform and nonuniform 2D power splitting. Analytical formulas are derived for the intensities and phases of the overlapping-images at the end of MMI section. The overlapping-imaging properties in 2D MMI couplers are also concluded. Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology offers tremendous potential for integration of optoelectronic functions on a silicon wafer. In this letter, a 1 x 1 multimode interference (MMI) Mach-Zender interferometer (MZI) thermo-optic modulator fabricated by wet-etching method is demonstrated. The modulator has an extinction ratio of -11.0 dB, extra loss of -4.9 dB and power consumption of 420 mW. The response time is less than 30μs.  相似文献

Self-imaging theory is widely accepted as a good method in designing 1 × N multimode interference (MMI) couplers, but it is also true that self-imaging theory is not suitable for low-contrast structures. An improved self-imaging theory is proposed in this paper for the optimal design of low-contrast 1 × N MMI couplers. The average effective width of MMI waveguide and the average effective propagation constant of MMI waveguide are used as the basis to modify the conventional self-imaging theory. A direct calculation of the average effective width of low-contrast MMIs is presented. We use this approach in the optimal design of a 1 × 4 silica MMI coupler, and the results show that the improved self-imaging theory is more accurate than conventional self-imaging theory for low-contrast structures, the results also show that if the material parameters and the width of an MMI waveguide are fixed, the average effective width of the MMI waveguide will increase with the decrease of the height of the core layer.  相似文献

A novel structure, thorough analysis and design technique are presented for a kind of polymer Mach?CZehnder Interferometer (MZI) electro-optic (EO) switch consisting of two-phase generating couplers (PGCs). By optimizing the PGCs structure, the output spectrum of the two PGCs based MZI EO switch is greatly expanded to almost six times of that of the traditional MZI EO switch with two 3?dB directional couplers. Under a central wavelength of 1550 nm, the driving voltages of the designed switch are as low as about 0 (ON state) and ±0.925?V (OFF state) with an EO region length of 5000???m. A wide spectrum more than 350 nm (1380??1730?nm) is achieved, and within this wavelength range, the crosstalk is less than ?30?dB, and the insertion loss is less than 5.91?dB which is larger than that of the traditional MZI EO switch due to the longer waveguide length by introducing two PGCs. The design technique on the two PGCs based MZI EO switch is supported to be reasonable compared with the beam propagation method (BPM). The proposed structure shows potential wide applications especially in optical cross-connect (OXC) and optical add-drop multiplexing (OADM) systems.  相似文献
