Internal modes and internal oscillation of vector solitons associated with photoisomerization and necklace solitons in Bessel lattices are researched. While white noise gives rise to the unsmoothness of the vector solitons, the perturbation of internal modes results in the long-distance quasi-periodic oscillation of soliton shape. Internal modes of two-dimensional necklace solitons in Bessel lattices have both real and imaginary parts, which is different with the internal modes of one-dimensional solitons which have only real part.  相似文献

A perturbation theory for determining the stability characteristics of spatial optical solitons with a 2D transverse profile in a transparent medium with a weak saturation of nonlinear refractive index is developed. For Kerr nonlinearity, a new solution of linearized equations for weak soliton perturbations is found. Using this solution, an expression for the stability characteristic is deduced, which, in the case of unstable solitons, determines their decay length and, in the case of stable solitons, shows the presence of perturbations with anomalously weak damping (internal modes) and determines their oscillation period.  相似文献

A modified Gross-Pitaevskii equation for a Bose-Einstein condensate with nonlocal interaction between atoms is used to analyze and calculate the characteristics of internal modes of bright solitons (eigen-modes of small perturbations of the condensate). The spectra of even and odd internal modes are found for one-and two-dimensional solitons, and the rate constant characterizing nonlinear internal-mode damping is determined. The possibility of experimental verification of the results is discussed.  相似文献

The internal modes of incoherent vector solitons (IVSs) in photovoltaic photorefractive materials are investigated in the framework of coupled nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations. It is found that there is a pair of internal modes corresponding to a bright--bright IVS. The propagation dynamics of the bright-bright IVS perturbed by the internal modes is simulated by numerical method.  相似文献

The existence and dynamical properties of discrete solitons in inhomogeneous waveguide arrays with a Kerr nonlinearity are studied in two different configurations. First we investigate the effect of a longitudinal periodic modulation of the coupling strength on the dynamics of discrete solitons. It is shown that resonances of internal modes of the soliton with the longitudinal structure may lead to soliton oscillations and decay. Second we study the existence and stability of discrete solitons in arrays exhibiting a linear variation of the waveguide effective index in the transverse direction. We find that resonant coupling between conventional discrete solitons and linear Wannier-Stark states leads to the formation of so-called hybrid discrete solitons.  相似文献

The theoretical analysis and calculation of internal modes (eigenmodes of small perturbations) of 1D, 2D, and 3D optical solitons in transparent media with a saturable nonlinearity of the refractive index are performed. Corrections that are nonlinear in the amplitude of perturbations and lead to the radiative damping of internal modes are found. The damping is shown to become weaker with increasing dimensionality of a solition.  相似文献

We present a review of new results which suggest the existence of fully stable spinning solitons (self-supporting localised objects with an internal vorticity) in optical fibres with self-focusing Kerr (cubic) nonlinearity, and in bulk media featuring a combination of the cubic self-defocusing and quadratic nonlinearities. Their distinctive difference from other optical solitons with an internal vorticity, which were recently studied in various optical media, theoretically and also experimentally, is that all the spinning solitons considered thus far have been found to be unstable against azimuthal perturbations. In the first part of the paper, we consider solitons in a nonlinear optical fibre in a region of parameters where the fibre carries exactly two distinct modes, viz., the fundamental one and the first-order helical mode. From the viewpoint of application to communication systems, this opens the way to doubling the number of channels carried by a fibre. Besides that, these solitons are objects of fundamental interest. To fully examine their stability, it is crucially important to consider collisions between them, and their collisions with fundamental solitons, in (ordinary or hollow) optical fibres. We introduce a system of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations for the fundamental and helical modes with nonstandard values of the cross-phase-modulation coupling constants, and show, in analytical and numerical forms, results of collisions between solitons carried by the two modes. In the second part of the paper, we demonstrate that the interaction of the fundamental beam with its second harmonic in bulk media, in the presence of self-defocusing Kerr nonlinearity, gives rise to the first ever example of completely stable spatial ring-shaped solitons with intrinsic vorticity. The stability is demonstrated both by direct simulations and by analysis of linearized equations.  相似文献

We study the formation of azimuthons, i.e., rotating spatial solitons, in media with nonlocal focusing nonlinearity. We show that whole families of these solutions can be found by considering internal modes of classical non-rotating stationary solutions, namely vortex solitons. This offers an exhaustive method to identify azimuthons in a given nonlocal medium. We demonstrate formation of azimuthons of different vorticities and explain their properties by considering the strongly nonlocal limit of accessible solitons.  相似文献

Results of numerical simulation of the formation of pulsating solitons in a laser with relaxation of gain and saturable absorption are presented. The regions of relaxation parameters are found in which stationary pulsating solitons and solitons with strong modulation of the pulsation amplitude are observed. Examples of multiple subsequent doubling of the oscillation period, caused by changing relaxation parameters, are presented.  相似文献

We investigate the oscillation periods of bright soliton pair or vector bright soliton pair in harmonic potentials. We demonstrate that periods of low-speed solitons are greatly affected by the position shift during their collisions. The modified oscillation periods are described by defining a characterized speed, with the aid of asymptotic analysis on related exact analytic soliton solutions in integrable cases. The oscillation period can be used to distinguish the inter- and intra-species interactions between solitons. However, a bright soliton cannot oscillate in a harmonic trap, when it is coupled with a dark soliton (without any trapping potentials). Interestingly, it can oscillate in an anti-harmonic potential, and the oscillation behavior is explained by a quasi-particle theory. The modified period of two dark-bright solitons can be also described well by the characterized speed. These results address well the effects of position shift during soliton collision, which provides an important supplement for previous studies without considering phase shift effects.  相似文献

In the classical lattice theory, solitons and localized modes can exist in many one-dimensional nonlinear lattice chains, however, in the quantum lattice theory, whether quantum solitons and localized modes can exist or not in the one-dimensional lattice chains is an interesting problem. By using the number state method and the Hartree approximation combined with the method of multiple scales, we investigate quantum solitons and localized modes in a one-dimensional lattice chain with the nonlinear substrate potential. It is shown that quantum solitons do exist in this nonlinear lattice chain, and at the boundary of the phonon Brillouin zone, quantum solitons become quantum localized modes, phonons are pinned to the lattice of the vicinity at the central position j=j0.  相似文献

In this work, we study the stability and internal modes of one-dimensional gap solitons employing the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a sinusoidal potential together with the presence of a weak nonlocality. Using an analytical theory, it is proved that two soliton families bifurcate out from every Bloch-band edge under self-focusing or self-defocusing nonlinearity, and one of these is always unstable. Also we study the oscillatory instabilities and internal modes of the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation.  相似文献

A variant of perturbation theory is developed to determine the characteristics and stability of transversely two-dimensional spatial solitons in a Kerr medium under conditions of small deviations from paraxial. Distributions of the transverse and longitudinal components of the soliton electric and magnetic fields are obtained. It is shown that the power of a nonparaxial soliton in a Kerr medium increases as the propagation constant increases. A linear analysis is made of soliton stability. In addition to confirming stability, this analysis revealed “internal modes” of nonparaxial solitons and their characteristics were determined.  相似文献

We address the existence and properties of solitons in thermal media with periodic modulation of linear refractive index. Many kinds of solitons in such optical lattices, including symmetric and antisymmetric lattices, are found under different conditions. We study the influence of the refractive index difference between two different layers on solitons. It is also found that there do not exist cutoff value of propagation constant and soliton power for shifted lattice solitons. In addition, the solitons launched away from their stationary position may propagate without oscillation when the confinement from lattices is strong.  相似文献

We demonstrated that linearly and nonlinearly amplitude-modulated (chirped) harmonic lattices can support odd and even solitons in both focusing and defocusing saturable media. The modulated lattice modifies the profiles and enlarges the stability domains of solitons, comparing with the unchirped one. Twisted solitons, or “soliton trains” whose profiles exhibit multi-peak structures can also be supported by linearly and nonlinearly chirped lattices. In sharp contrast with periodic lattices, chirped lattices remarkably broaden the existence and stability domains of twisted solitons, especially for solitons with more components. While even solitons in focusing media and twisted solitons in defocusing media are unstable, odd and twisted solitons in focusing media are stable in relatively wide parameter windows. Chirped lattice can be used as a linear guidance to realize the oscillation of solitons which is impossible in unchirped lattice.  相似文献

The propagation of elliptic incoherent beam in strongly nonlocal media with noninstantaneous anisotropic Kerr nonlinearity is systematically investigated. Using the mutual coherence function approach, we obtain the existence curve of such solitons and an interesting outcome: correlation characteristics of the elliptic incoherent solitons can be anisotropic as well as isotropic. When the existence conditions of solitons are not satisfied, the elliptic incoherent beam will undergo periodic oscillation. Nonstationary evolution behaviors of the elliptic beam are shown in detail by numerical calculation. It is also obtained that the oscillation periods of the beam in x and y direction are different and the elliptic beam will become circular at some propagation distance under special conditions.  相似文献

An overview of the theory of self-guided optical beams, spatial optical solitons supported by non-Kerr non-linearities, is presented. This includes bright and dark solitons in optical media with intensity-dependent non-linear response as well as two-component solitary waves supported by parametric wave mixing in quadratic or cubic media. The properties of non-linear spatially localized waves are discussed for qualitatively different types of soliton bearing non-integrable non-linear models, including the scalar model described by a generalized non-linear Schrödinger equation and the models of the second- and third-harmonic generation. Special attention is paid to the recent advances of the theory of soliton stability and soliton internal modes.  相似文献

The interaction trajectory of solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media is investigated. A simple differential equation describing the interaction trajectories is derived based on the light ray equation. Numerical calculations are carried out to illustrate the interaction trajectories with different parameters. The results show that the degree of nonlocality greatly affects the interaction of solitons. For a strongly nonlocal case, the interaction trajectory can be described by a cosine function. Analytical expressions describing the trajectory and the oscillation period are obtained. For generally and weakly nonlocal cases, the interaction trajectories still oscillate periodically, however it is no longer sinusoidal and the oscillation period increases with the nonlocal degree decreasing. In addition, the trajectory of two solitons launched with a relative angle at the entrance plane is investigated. It is found that there exists a critical angle. When the initial relative angle is larger than the critical angle, the two solitons do not collide on propagation. The influence of the degree of nonlocality on the critical angle is also discussed.  相似文献

We study the properties of one dimension incoherent accessible solitons in strongly nonlocal media with noninstantaneous Kerr nonlinearity. Following the coherent density theory, we obtain an exact solution of such incoherent solitons. The spatial width of the incoherent solitons is related to the incoherent angular power spectrum θ0 as well as the incident power. The evolution properties of the intensity profile and the coherence characteristics are also discussed in detail when the solitons undergo periodic harmonic oscillation.  相似文献
