2.  MXene Ti_3C_2T_x saturable absorber for pulsed laser at 1.3 μm

   The excellent optical properties of MXene provide new opportunities for short-pulse lasers. A diode-pumped passively Q-switched laser at 1.3 μm wavelength with MXene Ti_3C_2T_x as saturable absorber was achieved for the first time. The stable passively Q-switched laser has 454 ns pulse width and 162 kHz repetition rate at 4.5 W incident pumped power. The experimental results show that the MXene Ti_3C_2T_x saturable absorber can be used as an optical modulator to generate short pulse lasers in a solid-state laser field.    

3.  Contrastive study of two SESAMs for passive mode-locking in Nd:YVO_4 laser with low pump power

   Two semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs), of which one is coated with 50% reflection film on the top and the other is not, were contrastively studied in passively mode-locked solid-state lasers which were pumped by low output power laser diode (LD). Experiments have shown that reducing the modulation depth of SESAM by coating partial reflection film, whose reflectivity is higher than that between SESAM and air interface, is an effective method to get continuous wave (CW) mode-locking instead of Q-switched mode-locking (QML) in low power pumped solid-state lasers. A simple Nd:YVO4 laser pumped by low power LD, in which no water-cooling system was used, could obtain CW mode-locking by the 50% reflector coated SESAM with average output power of ~ 20 mW.    

4.  Efficient Laser-Diode End-Pumped Passively Q-Switched Mode-Locked Yb:LYSO Laser Based on SESAM

   We report an efficient Q-switched laser action based on a semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs) as passively Q-switched laser starter and a Yb:LYSO alloyed crystal as gain material pumped directly by 974nm InGaAs laser diodes. The output pulse duration is measured to be about 7μs, while the average power and the repetition rate of the pulse chain are about 0.92 W and 6.2 kHz, respectively, under 12.5 W absorbed pumping power. The Q-switched mode-locked pulse train is also observed in this setup. The laser performance shows that Yb:LYSO is a promising laser gain medium for laser-diode pumped compact solid-state lasers.    

5.  Passively Q-switched Nd:GdVO4 solid-state lasers with stabilized repetition rates

   By modulating the pump current, we developed a passively Q-switched diode-pumped all-solid-state laser with a repetition rate stabilized up to 10-7. It was experimentally demonstrated that the stability could sustain for an arbitrarily long time. Moreover, the stabilized repetition rates which were synchronized with different modulating frequencies were tuneable in a wide range, by adjusting the period of the pumping cycle only. The output single-pulse energy was also stabilized, which was independent on the pump power after reaching a saturable value.    

6.  Laser Diode-Pumped Nd:LuVO4 Acousto-Optic Q-Switched Laser at 916 nm

   A compact laser diode-pumped solid-state Nd:LuVO4 acousto-optic Q-switched laser is demonstrated at 916 nm of a quasi-three level for the first time. A pulse width of 130ns is observed when the pulse-repetition frequency is 10 kHz. The laser experiment shows that the Nd:Lu VO4 crystal can be used for efficient diode-pumped Q-switched lasers.

   Using both acoustic-optic (AO) Q-switch and GaAs saturable absorber, a diode-pumped doubly Q-switched Nd:GdVO4/KTP green laser is realized. This laser can generate a shorter and more symmetric pulse in comparison with purely AO and passively Q-switched lasers.    

8.  Numerical Modelling of QCW-Pumped Passively Q-Switched Nd:YAG Lasers with Cr^4+:yAG as Saturable Absorber

   Passively Q-switched quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser with Cr^4+ :YAG as saturable absorber is numerically investigated by solving the coupled rate equations. The threshold pump rate for passively Q-switched QCW-pumped laser is derived. The effects of the pump rate and pump-pulse duration on the laser operation characteristics are studied theoretically. The pump power range can be estimated according to the number of output pulses. The numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results.    

9.  Efficient corner-pumped Nd:YAG/YAG composite slab laser

   A corner-pumped type is a new pumping type in the diode-pumped all-solid-state lasers,which has the advantages of high pump efficiency and favourable pump uniformity.A highly efficient corner-pumped Nd:YAG/YAG composite slab laser is demonstrated in this paper.The maximal continuous-wave output power of the 1064 nm laser is up to 18.57 W with a slope efficiency and an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 44.9% and 39.8%,respectively.Inserting an acousto-optic Q-switch in the cavity,the highest average output power of the quasi-continuous wave 1064 nm laser of 6.73 W is obtained at a repetition rate of 9.26 kHz.The experimental results show that a corner-pumped type is a kind of feasible schedules in the design of diode-pumped all-solid-state lasers with low or medium output powers.    

10.  Violet to Infraned Multiwavelength Generation in Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate Pumped by a Q—Switched Nd:YVO4 Laser

   Six output wavelengths from violet to infrared have been observed simultaneously from an all-solid-state laser pumped optical parametric oscillator in a periodically poled lithium niobate crystal.The output wavelengths can be tuned by varying the quasi-phase matched period and/or temperature.The pump laser is a diode-pumped pasive Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser operated at 1064nm.Using a crystal with a 29.9μm grating period,we measured six wavelengths at 448,515,532,630,773 and 1546nm and obtained efficient output.We explain the multiwavelength generation by multiwave coupling theory.This phenomenon may have novel applications in photonic devices.    

11.  Modeling the pulse shape of Q-switched lasers to account for terminal-level relaxation

   To account for the effect of lower-level relaxation,we have derived a characteristic equation for describing the laser pulse from the modified rate equations for Q-switched lasers.The pulse temporal profile is related to the ratio of the lower-level lifetime to the cavity lifetime and the number of times the population inversion density is above the threshold.By solving the coupled rate equations numerically,the effect of terminal-level lifetime on pulse temporal behaviour is analysed.The mode is applied to the case of a diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser that is passively Q-switched by a Cr 4+:YAG absorber.Theoretical results show good agreement with the experiments.    

12.  Q-switched mode-locked diode-pumped Nd:YVO_4 laser with a saturable Bragg reflector  被引次数:3

   We demonstrated a diode-pumped passively Q-switched mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser by using a relaxed saturable Bragg reflector (SBR). Stable mode-locked pulse train with the repetition rate of -230 MHz was achieved and the pulse train was modulated by the Q-switched envelope with the repetition rate of -150 kHz. The maximum output of 4 W was obtained under the pump power of 13.5 W. The optical-to-optical efficiency was 30%. We also discussed the transition of each process having emerged.

14.  Controllable Passively Q-Switched Laser

   We present a novel kind of pulsed laser named controllable passively Q-switched laser (CPQL). A CPQL of Nd:YV04 with Cr:YAG as saturable absorber was demonstrated and studied as an example of the kind of pulsed lasers. In CPQL, as the actively controlling signal, a diode laser beam was focused onto the saturable absorber in the resonant cavity of the passively Q-switched laser (PQL) and was absorbed by the absorber to realize the active control of the CPQL. The characters of the CPQL output laser pulses, such as generation time, repetition rate, pulse width, peak power and energy per pulse, can be controlled by the operator. The CPQLs possess theadv antages of both passively Q-switched laser and actively Q-switched laser. Because of their compactness, low cost and controllability, the CPQLs will find wide applications in many fields.

   The intracavity photon density is assumed to be of Gaussian spatial distributions and its longitudinal variation is also considered in the rate equations for a laser diode (LD) end-pumped passively Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser with GaAs saturable absorber. These space-dependent rate equations are solved numerically. The dependences of pulse width, pulse repetition rate, single-pulse energy, and peak power on incident pump power are obtained. In the experiment, the LD end-pumped passively Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser with GaAs saturable absorber is realized and the experimental results are consistent with the numerical solutions.

18.  Investigation on mode matching including thermal effects in LD end-pumped passively mode-locked Nd:YVO_4 laser

   We design a laser diode (LD) end-pumped passively mode-locked solid-state laser with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. Mode-matching efficiency in the active medium including the thermal effect is analyzed, and the optimum mode-matching coefficient is obtained by optimizing the pump mode. In the experiment, a total power of 4.2 W stable pulse sequences without multipulse at 1064 nm is obtained with a pulse repetition rate of 86 MHz and a pulse width of 13 ps, corresponding to a high optical to optical efficiency of 44%.
