In the industrial cleaning processes either organic solvents or water solutions are used as the cleaning media. The primary causative factor of ultrasonic cleaning is cavitation. Below are presented results of investigations into the influence of temperature, gas content and the solution level in an ultrasonic cleaner on cavitation intensity in the tap water. Previous investigations have revealed a great deal of information on the influence of the above factors on the cavitation intensity and these are confirmed. It has now been found that the tap water reaches the highest cavitation intensity at temperatures below 20 degrees C but during heating at higher temperatures (20-40 degrees C) a second peak of cavitation intensity may appear-depending on the height of water in the bath and air content.  相似文献

When a liquid is irradiated with high intensities of ultrasound irradiation, acoustic cavitation occurs. Acoustic cavitation generates free radicals from the breakdown of water and other molecules. Cavitation can be fatal to cells and is utilized to destroy cancer tumors. The existence of particles in liquid provides nucleation sites for cavitation bubbles and leads to decrease the ultrasonic intensity threshold needed for cavitation onset. In the present investigation, the effect of gold nanoparticles with appropriate amount and size on the acoustic cavitation activity has been shown by determining hydroxyl radicals in terephthalic acid solutions containing 15, 20, 28 and 35 nm gold nanoparticles sizes by using 1 MHz low level ultrasound. The effect of sonication intensity in hydroxyl radical production was considered. The recorded fluorescence signal in terephthalic acid solutions containing gold nanoparticles was considerably higher than the terephthalic acid solutions without gold nanoparticles at different intensities of ultrasound irradiation. Also, the results showed that the recorded fluorescence signal intensity in terephthalic acid solution containing finer size of gold nanoparticles was lower than the terephthalic acid solutions containing larger size of gold nanoparticles. Acoustic cavitation in the presence of gold nanoparticles can be used as a way for improving therapeutic effects on the tumors.  相似文献

The acoustic cavitation threshold of an aqueous solution has been measured at megahertz frequencies as a function of pulse width and pulse repetition frequency for various combinations of these quantities. The fluid tested was a 0.1M KOH-H3BO3 buffer solution with pH 10.9, which contained luminol, was saturated with argon, and filtered to 25 mu. The presence of cavitation was detected by a photomultiplier tube that required the emission of visible light that was both larger in magnitude and longer in duration than a preset criterion. It was observed that the cavitation threshold of water under pulse conditions decreases both when the pulse width is fixed and the pulse repetition frequency is increased, and when the pulse repetition frequency is fixed and the pulse width is increased. Acoustic cavitation thresholds measured in aqueous solutions are significantly less than those acoustic pressures associated with instruments that are currently in widespread use in medicine.  相似文献

Luminescence and chemiluminescence have been experimentally investigated in hydrodynamic cavitating flows. By using dedicated microdevices inserted inside a light tight box, photons counting has been made possible. Luminescence has been investigated with deionized water as the working fluid; chemiluminescence has resulted from cavitating alkaline luminol solutions, and has been correlated to hydroxyl radicals formation. For the first time, luminescent and chemiluminescent phenomena have been considered together on the same devices submitted to similar cavitating flow regimes. Degassed solutions enhance the luminescence and also the hydroxyl radical yield. Due to the small sizes of the channels, the lifetimes of the collapsing bubbles correspond to pseudo frequencies matching the range of optimal frequencies used in sonochemistry. New perspectives for the study of hydrodynamic cavitation as an advanced oxidation process are suggested.  相似文献

Over the last two decades, the scientific community and industry have made huge efforts to develop environmental protection technologies. In particular, the scarcity of drinking water has prompted the investigation of several physico-chemical treatments, and synergistic effects have been observed in hyphenated techniques. Herein, we report the first example of water treatment under simultaneous hydrodynamic cavitation and plasma discharge with the intense generation of radicals, UV light, shock waves and charged particles. This highly reactive environment is well suited to the bulk treatment of polluted water (i.e. E. coli disinfection and organic pollutant degradation). We have developed a new prototype and have efficiently applied this hybrid technology to water disinfection and the complete degradation of methanol in water with the aim of demonstrating its scalability. We have analyzed the mechanisms of water disinfection under the abovementioned conditions and verified them by measuring cavitation noise spectra and plasma emission spectra. We have also used the degradation of textile dyes and methanol solutions as an indicator for the formation of radicals.  相似文献

Hydrodynamic cavitation for sonochemical effects   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12
A comparative study of hydrodynamic and acoustic cavitation has been made on the basis of numerical solutions of the Rayleigh-Plesset equation. The bubble/cavity behaviour has been studied under both acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation conditions. The effect of varying pressure fields on the collapse of the cavity (sinusoidal for acoustic and linear for hydrodynamic) and also on the latter's dynamic behaviour has been studied. The variations of parameters such as initial cavity size, intensity of the acoustic field and irradiation frequency in the case of acoustic cavitation, and initial cavity size, final recovery pressure and time for pressure recovery in the case of hydrodynamic cavitation, have been found to have significant effects on cavity/bubble dynamics. The simulations reveal that the bubble/cavity collapsing behaviour in the case of hydrodynamic cavitation is accompanied by a large number of pressure pulses of relatively smaller magnitude, compared with just one or two pulses under acoustic cavitation. It has been shown that hydrodynamic cavitation offers greater control over operating parameters and the resultant cavitation intensity. Finally, a brief summary of the experimental results on the oxidation of aqueous KI solution with a hydrodynamic cavitation set-up is given which supports the conclusion of this numerical study. The methodology presented allows one to manipulate and optimise of specific process, either physical or chemical.  相似文献

Cavitation is a complex physical phenomenon affected by many factors, one of which is the gas dissolved in the medium. Researchers have given some efforts to the influence of gas content on sonoluminescence or some specific chemical reactions in and around the bubble, but limited work has been reported about the influence on the ultrasonic cavitation field distribution. In this work, the intensity distribution of the ultrasound field in a cleaning tank has been measured with the hydrophone. After analysed and visualised by MATLAB software, it was found that the cavitation intensity distribution in degassed water was much better than that in tap water. And further study proved that degassing process can improve the cavitation effect dramatically both in intensity and scope. Finally, the cavitation fields in mediums with different gas content were measured and the specific influence of air content on cavitation field was discussed.  相似文献

Acoustic microcavitation: its active and passive acoustic detection   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this work acoustic microcavitation in water is studied primarily at 0.75 MHz and 1% duty cycle. To detect cavitation, two kinds of acoustic detectors are used. The first one is an unfocused, untuned 1-MHz receiver transducer that serves as a passive detector. The other one is a focused 30-MHz transducer that is used in pulse-echo mode and is called the active detector. Cavitation itself is brought about by a focused PZT-8 crystal driven in pulse mode. The active detector is arranged confocally with respect to the cavitation transducer. Both the interrogating pulse and the cavitation pulse arrive simultaneously at the common focus, which is the region of cavitation. With the test chamber filled with clean water, no cavitation is observed, even when the cavitation transducer is driven to give its peak output of 22 bar peak negative. Cavitation is, however, observed when polystyrene microparticles are added to the host water. Our view of how these smooth, spherical, monodispersed microparticles give rise to cavitation is described with some estimates. An attempt has been made to understand whether the presence of "streaming" affects the thresholds, and it has been found that the active detector field affects the cavitation process.  相似文献

High-power ultrasound for several decades has been an integral part of many industrial processes conducted in aqueous solutions. Maximizing the transfer efficiency of the acoustic energy between electromechanical transducers and water at cavitation is crucial when designing industrial ultrasonic reactors with large active volumes. This can be achieved by matching the acoustic impedances of transducers to water at cavitation using appropriately designed ultrasonic horns. In the present work, a set of criteria characterizing the matching capabilities of ultrasonic horns is developed. It is shown that none of the commonly used tapered-shape horns can achieve the necessary conditions. An analytical method for designing five-element acoustic horns with the desirable matching properties is introduced, and five novel types of such horns, most suitable for practical applications, are proposed. An evaluation of the horns' performance is presented in a set of experiments, demonstrating the validity of the developed theoretical methodology. Power transfer efficiency increase by almost an order of magnitude is shown to be possible with the presented horn designs, as compared to those traditionally utilized.  相似文献
