We study the impact of subthreshold periodic pacemaker activity and internal noise on the spatial dynamics of excitable media. For this purpose, we examine two systems that both consist of diffusively coupled units. In the first case, the local dynamics of the units is driven by a simple one-dimensional model of excitability with a piece-wise linear potential. In the second case, a more realistic biological system is studied, and the local dynamics is driven by a model for calcium oscillations. Internal noise is introduced via the τ-leap stochastic integration procedure and its intensity is determined by the finite size of each constitutive system unit. We show that there exists an intermediate level of internal stochasticity for which the localized pacemaker activity maps best into coherent periodic waves, whose spatial frequency is uniquely determined by the local subthreshold forcing. Via an analytical treatment of the simple minimal model for the excitable spatially extended system, we explicitly link the pacemaker activity with the spatial dynamics and determine necessary conditions that warrant the observation of the phenomenon in excitable media. Our results could prove useful for the understanding of interplay between local and global agonists affecting the functioning of tissue and organs.  相似文献

We investigate the noise-induced synchronization between two identical uncoupled Hodgkin-Huxley neurons with sinusoidal stimulations. The numerical results confirm that the value of critical noise intensity for synchronizing two systems is much less than the magnitude of mean size of the attractor in the original system, and the deterministic feature of the attractor in the original system remains unchanged. This finding is significantly different from the previous work [Phys. Rev. E 67 (2003) 027201] in which the value of the critical noise intensity for synchronizing two systems was found to be roughly equal to the magnitude of mean size of the attractor in the original system, and at this intensity, the noise swamps the qualitative structure of the attractor in the original deterministic systems to synchronize to their stochastic dynamics. Further investigation shows that the critical noise intensity for synchronizing two neurons induced by noise may be related to the structure of interspike intervals of the original systems.  相似文献

The effects of time delay on the transient properties of a time-delayed metastable system subjected to cross-correlated noises are studied by means of a stochastic simulation method. It is found that: (i) Both additive noise and multiplicative noise can produce the noise enhanced stability (NES) effect; (ii) The time delay induces critical behavior on the NES, i.e., there is a critical value of the delay time τc1≈2.2, above which the time delay increases the stability of the system enhanced by the additive noise, and below which the NES effect induced by the additive noise disappears; (iii) There exists another critical value of the delay time τc2≈3.0, above which the time delay increases the stability of the system enhanced by the multiplicative noise and below which the time delay decreases it.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the periodic response for a linear system driven by a multiplicative multi-state noise (which is composed of the multiplication of two dichotomous noises) to an input temporal oscillatory signal, and the escape of Brownian particles over the fluctuating potential barrier for a system with a piece-wise linear potential and driven by an additive multi-state noise (which is also composed of the multiplication of two dichotomous noises). For the first system, we get the stochastic resonance phenomenon for the amplitude of the periodic response vs. the two dichotomous noise strengths, and the phenomenon of reverse-resonance for the amplitude of the periodic response vs. k, which represents the asymmetry degree of the dichotomous noises. For the second system, we obtain the resonant activation phenomenon, for which the mean first passage time of the Brownian particles over the fluctuating potential barrier shows a minimum as the function of the transition rates of the multi-state noise.  相似文献

The phenomenon of stochastic resonance in a bistable system with time-delayed feedback driven by non-Gaussian noise is investigated. Combining the small time delay approximation, the path-integral approach and the unified colored noise approximation, a general approximate Fokker–Planck equation of a stochastic system is obtained. The effects of the parameter q indicating the departure from the Gaussian noise, the delay time τ  , and the correlation time τ0τ0 of the non-Gaussian noise on the quasi-steady-state probability distribution function (SPD) and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are discussed. It is found that the number of peaks in SPD and the reentrant transition between one peak and two peaks and then to one peak again in the curve of SNR depends on the parameter q, the delay time τ  , and the noise correlation time τ0τ0.  相似文献

The effects of additive correlated noise, which is composed of common Gaussian white noise and local Gaussian colored noise, on a square lattice network locally modelled by the Rulkov map are studied. We focus on the ability of noise to induce pattern formation in a resonant manner. It is shown that local Gaussian colored noise is able to induce pattern formation, which is more coherent at some noise intensity or correlation time, so it is able to induce spatiotemporal coherence resonance in the network. When common Gaussian white noise is applied in addition, it is seen that the correlated noise can induce coherent spatial structures at some intermediate noise correlation, while this is not the case for smaller and larger noise intensities. The mechanism of the observed spatiotemporal coherence resonance is discussed. It is also found that the correlation time of local colored noise has no evident effect on the optimal value of the noise strength for spatiotemporal coherence resonance in the network.  相似文献

We have investigated the effects of noise on an extended chaotic system. The chosen model is the Lorenz’96, a type of “toy” model used for climate studies. Through the analysis of the system’s time evolution and its time and space correlations, we have obtained numerical evidence for two distinct stochastic resonance-like behaviors. Such behaviors are seen when both the usual and a generalized signal-to-noise ratio functions are depicted as a function of the external noise intensity, or of the system size. The underlying mechanisms seem to be associated with a noise-induced chaos reduction. The possible relevance of these and other findings for an optimal climate prediction are discussed.  相似文献

The stochastic resonance (SR) in a stochastic stable system driven by a static force and a periodic square-wave signal as well as by additive white noise and dichotomous noise is considered from the point of view of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). It is found that the SNR exhibits SR behavior when it is plotted as a function of the noise strength of the white noise and dichotomous noise, as well as when plotted as a function of the static force. Moreover, the influence of the strength of the stochastic potential force and the correlation rate of the dichotomous noise is investigated.  相似文献

The dynamics of a periodically driven FitzHugh-Nagumo system with time-delayed feedback and Gaussian white noise is investigated. The stochastic resonance which is characterized by the Fourier coefficient Q is numerically calculated. It is found that the stochastic resonance of the system is a non-monotonic function of the noise strength and the signal period. The variation of the time-delayed feedback can induce periodic stochastic resonance in the system.  相似文献

The effect of additive coloured noises, which are correlated in time, on one-dimensional travelling waves in the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation is studied by numerical simulations. We found that a small coloured noise with temporal correlation could considerably influence the stability of one-dimensional wave trains. There exists an optimal temporal correlation of noise where travelling waves are the most vulnerable. To elucidate the phenomena, we statistically calculated the convective velocities Vg of the wave packets, and found that the coloured noise with an appropriate temporal correlation can decrease Vg, making the system convectively more unstable.  相似文献

The transient properties of a bistable system with the stochastic potentials are investigated. The explicit expressions of the mean first-passage time (MFPT) are obtained by using a steepest-descent approximation. The results show that the MFPT of the system increases with the amplitude Δ of the stochastic potential, decreases with the noise intensity D and the correlation length l. The stochastic potential makes against the particle moving towards the destination.  相似文献

We study the spatial dynamics of spiral waves in noisy Hodgkin-Huxley neuronal ensembles evoked by different information transmission delays and network topologies. In classical settings of coherence resonance the intensity of noise is fine-tuned so as to optimize the system's response. Here, we keep the noise intensity constant, and instead, vary the length of information transmission delay amongst coupled neurons. We show that there exists an intermediate transmission delay by which the spiral waves are optimally ordered, hence indicating the existence of delay-enhanced coherence of spatial dynamics in the examined system. Additionally, we examine the robustness of this phenomenon as the diffusive interaction topology changes towards the small-world type, and discover that shortcut links amongst distant neurons hinder the emergence of coherent spiral waves irrespective of transmission delay length. Presented results thus provide insights that could facilitate the understanding of information transmission delay on realistic neuronal networks.  相似文献

The role of Lévy flights on fluctuation-driven transport in time independent periodic potentials with broken spatial symmetry is studied. Two complementary approaches are followed. The first one is based on a generalized Langevin model describing overdamped dynamics in a ratchet type external potential driven by Lévy white noise with stability index α in the range 1<α<2. The second approach is based on the space fractional Fokker-Planck equation describing the corresponding probability density function (PDF) of particle displacements. It is observed that, even in the absence of an external tilting force or a bias in the noise, the Lévy flights drive the system out of the thermodynamic equilibrium and generate an up-hill current (i.e., a current in the direction of the steeper side of the asymmetric potential). For small values of the noise intensity there is an optimal value of α yielding the maximum current. The direction and magnitude of the current can be manipulated by changing the Lévy noise asymmetry and the potential asymmetry. For a sharply localized initial condition, the PDF of staying at the minimum of the potential exhibits scaling behavior in time with an exponent bigger than the −1/α exponent corresponding to the force free case.  相似文献

We study the escape for the mean first passage time (MFPT) over a potential barrier for a system with non- fluctuating potential barrier and only driven by a three-state noise. It is shown that in some circumstances, the three-state noise can induce the resonant activation for the MFPT over the potential barrier; but in other circumstances, it can not. There are three resonant activations for the MFPT over the potential barrier, which are respectively as the functions of the transition rates of the three-state noise.  相似文献

Based on a system-reservoir model, where the reservoir is driven by an external white Gaussian noise, we study the behavior of system components in Weiss mean-field approach and Gaussian approximation for moments. Crossover from individual to cooperative dynamics of the system components is due to noise. The system displays a transition similar to diversity-induced phase transition. The analytical results are compared with the numerical simulations.  相似文献

We study the flip-processes in a two-level system, which is triggered by the coupling to a classical bath. When the bath is represented by a stochastic field, the time evolution of the density matrix leads to a stochastic equation with a multiplicative noise. Accordingly the Fokker–Planck-equation (FPE) depends on the matrix elements of the underlying density operator. The solution of the FPE can be parametrized in terms of an inherent conserved quantity α, which is interpreted as a measure for the persistence of quantum information. We show that the FPE exhibits a single unique steady state solution different from Boltzmann's law. The exactly computable discrete spectrum of the relaxation times is characterized by two quantum numbers and the ratio of Planck's constant and the coupling strength to the bath. The total entropy is analyzed as function of the quantum number α  . In case of α=1α=1 the system is in a pure state whereas for α≠1α1 a mixed state is realized. In case of two, two-level systems, immersed in the common bath, the two noninteracting two-level systems become mutually entangled. The annealed entropy is in that case non-extensive.  相似文献

The colored noise problem is studied from the point of view of consistent Markovian approximations through extending unified colored-noise approximation to the case of two-colored-noise driving systems. A bistable system simultaneously driven by multiplicative and additive colored noise is investigated by means of the extended unified colored-noise approximation. It is found that, for weak strength and color of the additive noise, the form of the stationary probability distribution changes from a unimodal to a bimodal structure via a three modal one as the correlation time of the multiplicative colored noise increases, showing the system undergoes a first order phase transition from a monostable to a bistable state. Numerical simulations support our results. Received 10 August 1998 and Received in final form 23 April 1999  相似文献

The entanglement dynamics in a system of the interaction of an atom with a single-mode thermal field in the presence of noise is studied by the Jaynes-Cummings model. Two-state random phase telegraph noise is considered as the noise in the interaction and an exact solution to the model under this noise is obtained by the Burshtein equation. Although the Burshtein equation is applicable for laser-atom interactions, it is shown that it can be applied to atom-thermal field system as a special case. The solution is used to investigate the entanglement dynamics of the atom-field interaction by calculating a lower bound on concurrence. It is found that the entanglement is a non monotonic function of the intensity of the noise. The degree of the entanglement decreases to a minimum value for an optimal intensity of the noise and then increases for a sufficiently large intensity. Moreover, intense noise may generate stronger entanglement compared with the absence of noise.  相似文献

The phenomenon of entropic stochastic resonance (ESR) in a two-dimensional confined system driven by a transverse periodic force is investigated when the colored fluctuation is included in the system. Applying the method of unified colored noise approximation, the approximate Fokker-Planck equation can be derived in the absence of the periodic force. Through the escaping rate of the Brownian particle from one well to the other, the power spectral amplification can be obtained. It is found that increasing the values of the noise correlation time and the signal frequency can suppress the ESR of the system.  相似文献
