Using the covariant light-front approach with conventional vertex functions, we estimate the production rates of D-wave charmed/charmed-strange mesons via the B_((s)) semileptonic decays. As the calculated production rates are significant, it seems possible to experimentally search for D-wave charmed/charmed-strange mesons via semileptonic decays, which may provide an additional approach for exploring D-wave charmed/charmed-strange mesons.  相似文献

A search for doubly-charmed B decays with both charmed mesons reconstructed is performed, using about 3.8 million hadronic Z decays recorded with the ALEPH detector at LEP. A clear signal is observed in the channels and (where D can be either a D, a D or a D), providing the first direct evidence for doubly-charmed B decays involving no production. Evidence for associated and production in the decays is also presented and some candidates for completely reconstructed decays , and are observed. Furthermore, candidates for the two-body Cabibbo suppressed decays and are also observed. Measurements of the corresponding branching fractions are extracted. Radiative meson decays are computed from quark loop anomalies, taking into account the SU(3) splitting of the quark masses. Predicted rates for ?→ηγ,K *Kγ, and η→ππγ are brought into satisfactory agreement with experiment. Formulas are given for the radiative decay rates of charmed las are given for the radiative decay rates of charmed mesons, and a mechanism suggested for suppression of the radiative decays of mesons containing a charmed quark.  相似文献

A sample of 3.6 million hadronic Z decays recorded between 1991 and 1995 with the ALEPH detector at LEP is used to investigate semileptonic decays of B mesons into final states involving orbitally excited charm mesons. Topological vertex criteria are used to search for decays involving narrow D** states as well as wide D** resonances and non-resonant D(*)π final states. The sum of the branching ratios for these processes is measured to be ${? Br}({?erline {? B}}?ghtarrow {? D}? ?l^{-}{?erline v}) + {? Br}({?erline {? B}}?ghtarrow {? D}^{?t}? ?l^{-}{?erline v})?op =(2.26 pm 0.29({? stat}) pm 0.33({? syst}))%,$which accounts for a significant fraction of the deficit between inclusive measurements and the sum of exclusive semileptonic B decay modes.  相似文献

Several arguments for the dominance of certain types of non-leptonic weak decays of strange particles are examined for their applicability to high-mass hadrons. Arguments based on asymptotic freedom, duality, current algebra and PCAC, and coloured fermion quarks are all found to be weaker than for strange decays. Specific calculations in the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani charm scheme yield total semi-leptonic decay rates of 20% or more. Estimates of branching ratios for two-body decays of charmed mesons are given, and remarks are made about charmed baryon decays.  相似文献

The fragmentation functions of quarks and gluons are measured in various three-jet topologies in Z decays from the full data set collected with the Delphi detector at the Z resonance between 1992 and 1995. The results at different values of transverse momentum-like scales are compared. A parameterization of the quark and gluon fragmentation functions at a fixed reference scale is given. The quark and gluon fragmentation functions show the predicted pattern of scaling violations. The scaling violation for quark jets as a function of a transverse momentum-like scale is in a good agreement with that observed in lower energy annihilation experiments. For gluon jets it appears to be significantly stronger. The scale dependences of the gluon and quark fragmentation functions agree with the prediction of the DGLAP evolution equations from which the colour factor ratio is measured to be: Received: 5 November 1999 / Published online: 25 February 2000  相似文献

The inclusive production of heavy quarks and quarkonia in photon-photon collisions at the LEP2 collider is considered within the semihard (k T-factorization) QCD approach. The dependence of the total and differential cross sections for the production of heavy (c and b) quarks and D* and J/ψ mesons on the choice of unintegrated gluon distribution is studied. The transition of a $c\bar c$ charmed pair to observed J/ψ mesons is described on the basis of the color-singlet model. The results of the calculations are compared with currently available experimental data obtained by the L3, OPAL, ALEPH, and DELPHI Collaborations. It is shown that the polarization properties of J/ψ mesons at the LEP2 collider are sensitive to the behavior of unintegrated gluon distributions. This means that experimental investigations of the polarization properties of quarkonia in photon-photon collisions may provide a direct test of the dynamics of gluon distributions in the photon.  相似文献

The full statistics of hadronic Z decays collected with the ALEPH detector are analysed to measure, by three methods, the ratio, , of the partial decay width of the Z into quarks to the total hadronic width. One method uses the inclusive and spectra of electrons. The other two use a double-tagging technique to measure independently of the charm-tagging efficiency. In one, the tagging procedure uses the reconstruction of high momentum charmed mesons (, and to detect the charm quarks. In the other, a charm quark is tagged from the 's reconstructed in the decay channel and the other from the slow pion from the decay. The combination of these measurements leads to . We consider radiative and pionic decays of the new D s -mesons in the framework of a phenomenologically motivated approach. Present data on ratios of the two kinds of decays can be described without explicitly using a 4-quark component. Most probably, the isospin violation in decays of different D s -mesons is not universal, and the binding potential should be different from Coulombic. New precise measurements may provide further clarification for the nature of the D s excited states.Received: 10 March 2004, Published online: 14 September 2004PACS: 14.40.Lb Charmed mesons - 13.20.Fc Decays of charmed mesons - 13.25.Ft Decays of charmed mesons  相似文献

The QCD multipole expansion is applied to the study of nonperturbative soft-gluon effects in semileptonic decays of charmed F mesons. For reasonable values of F-meson bound-state parameters, the soft-gluon effects activate quark-annihilation processes, leading to a significant enhancement of semileptonic decay rates.  相似文献

We report the measurement of charged D* mesons in jets produced in proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy $ \sqrt s $ \sqrt s = 200 GeV with the STAR experiment at RHIC. The production rate is found to be N(D*+ + D*)/N (jet) = 0.015 ± 0.008 (stat) ± 0.007 (sys) for D* mesons with fractional momenta 0.2 < z < 0.5 in jets with 11.5 GeV mean transverse energy. This rate is consistent with perturbative QCD evalulation of gluon splitting into a pair of charm quarks and subsequent hadronization.  相似文献

The production of Jψ mesons in Z0 decays is studied using 3.6 million hadronic events recorded by the OPAL detector at LEP. The inclusive Z0 to Jψ and b-quark to Jψ branching ratios are measured from the total yield of Jψ mesons, identified from their decays into lepton pairs. The Jψ momentum distribution is used to study the fragmentation of b-quarks. The production rate of ψ′ mesons, identified from their decays into a Jψ and a π+π? pair, is measured as well. The following results are obtained: ${Br(Z^{0}?ghtarrow {? J}/?i X)=(3.9pm 0.2pm 0.3)cdot 10^{-3} {? and} ?op Br(Z^0?ghtarrow ?i ^?ime X)=(1.6pm 0.3pm 0.2)cdot 10^{-3}, }$ where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Finally the Jψ sample is used to reconstruct exclusive b-hadron decays and calculate the corresponding b-hadron branching ratios and masses.  相似文献

In the valence-quark c-decay scheme the decay D0K0π0 is expected to be strongly suppressed. We suggest that final state soft gluon exchange may account for the rather large branching ratio recently measured for this process, and study two-body decays of charmed mesons in our new scheme.  相似文献

Weak charged current production of charmed quark pairs is studied in the framework of the QCD inspired parton model. The magnitude of the cross section strongly depends on the charmed quark pair production threshold, above which the gluons are assumed to decay into either charmed particle pairs of hidden charmonium states. The normalized distributions are rather insensitive to the choice of this threshold value and the angular distribution of J/gy particles will show significant azimuthal asymmetry about the current-target axis. The sign of the asymmetry cannot be mimicked by the parton primordial transverse momentum effects and thus the process can serve a clean test of the gluon bremsstrahlung mechanism.  相似文献

The charged particle multiplicities of two- and three-jet events from the reaction ee Z are measured for Z decays to light quark (uds) flavors. Using recent theoretical expressions to account for biases from event selection, results corresponding to unbiased gluon jets are extracted over a range of jet energies from about 11 to 30 GeV. We find consistency between these results and direct measurements of unbiased gluon jet multiplicity from and Z decays. The unbiased gluon jet data including the direct measurements are compared to corresponding results for quark jets. We perform fits based on analytic expressions for particle multiplicity in jets to determine the ratio of multiplicities between gluon and quark jets as a function of energy. We also determine the ratio of slopes, , and of curvatures, , where y specifies the energy scale. At 30 GeV, we find and , where the uncertainties are the statistical and systematic terms added in quadrature. These results are in general agreement with theoretical predictions. In addition, we use the measurements of the energy dependence of and to determine an effective value of the ratio of QCD color factors, . Our result, (total), is consistent with the QCD value of 2.25. Received: 25 October 2001 / Revised version: 20 January 2002 / Published online: 5 April 2002  相似文献

We use the quark model framework to calculate the weak decays of the lowest lying charmed baryons into ground state baryons and mesons. We present detailed results on the predicted flavour and multipole composition of the final state configurations which can be tested in the near future. For the decays 1/2+→1/2++0? we also give symmetry and current algebra estimates which we compare with the quark model results. Semileptonic branching ratios in charmed baryon decays are calculated to be of the order of ~5%. The total lifetime of charmed baryons is predicted to be ~7 10?14 s which is 5–10 times smaller than the free quark model estimate.  相似文献

The results of processing the data of the SERP-E-184 experiment that studied mechanisms of the production of charmed particles in proton-nucleus interactions at 70 GeV and their decays are presented. The data were obtained in irradiating the SVD-2 active target consisting of carbon, silicon, and lead plates with a 70-GeV proton beam. A detailed simulation based on the FRITIOF7.02 and GEANT3.21 packages made it possible to optimize event-selection criteria and to calculate the detection efficiencies for D ± mesons. After the selection of a signal from the three-body decay of charged charmed D ± mesons, the inclusive cross sections for their production at threshold energies were measured along with respective lifetimes and parameters of the A dependence of the cross sections. The yields of D mesons and their ratios are compiled in a table along with data fromother experiments and the respective theoretical predictions.  相似文献
