We report the first continuous-wave tunable over ∼280 nm around 2.3 μm room-temperature operation of a chemical vapor transport-grown
and diffusion-doped Cr2+:ZnS laser, pumped by a Co:MgF2 laser at 1.67 μm and generating over 100 mW of output power at 16% slope efficiency. The self-consistent results of the laser
and spectroscopic analysis demonstrate a large potential of this crystal as an active medium for diode-pumped tunable mid-infrared
sources.

Wavelength-modulation spectroscopy using a frequency-doubled current-modulated diode laser 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have studied atomic absorption in an argon discharge by wavelength-modulation spectroscopy with a frequency-doubled diode
laser. The tunable wavelength-modulated radiation at 430 nm was generated by frequency doubling a current-modulated 860-nm
diode laser in a KNbO3 crystal. 2f-, 4f- and 6f-harmonic spectra as a function of diode laser modulation depth were measured on a Doppler-broadened
sample of excited argon atoms produced in a capacitively coupled plasma chamber. Characterisation of the harmonic signals
was accomplished. Minimum detectable absorbances of 7.7×10-5 and 1.9×10-4 based on a 3σ criterion (σ being the standard deviation of the noise) were estimated for 2f- and 4f-harmonic detection of
the frequency-doubled radiation with a time constant of 0.1 s. The concentrations of argon in the 1s4 state were found to be in the range of 3×108 to 1.2×1011 cm-3 for the experimental conditions studied.

In this paper we report on measurements of the nonlinear refractive index n2 at 1047 nm of various fluoride-phosphate laser glasses relative to fused silica using degenerate four-wave mixing. We find
good agreement with empirical estimates obtained from the d-line linear refractive index and the Abbe number for pure fluoride-phosphate
glasses. Significant increase of n2 is observed when adding sulfate and niobium oxide to the glass composition offering tailorable nonlinear properties for glasses
employed in short pulse laser oscillators.

Atomic-scale structural changes have been observed in the glass network of fused silica after modification by tightly focused
800-nm, 130-fs laser pulses at fluences between 5 and 200 J cm-2. Raman spectroscopy of the modified glass shows an increase in the 490 and 605-cm-1 peaks, indicating an increase in the number of 4- and 3-membered ring structures in the silica network. These results provide
evidence that densification of the glass occurs after exposure to fs pulses. Fluorescence spectroscopy of the modified glass
shows a broad fluorescence band at 630 nm, indicating the formation of non-bridging oxygen hole centers (NBOHC) by fs pulses.
Waveguides that support the fundamental mode at 633 nm have been fabricated inside fused silica by scanning the glass along
the fs laser beam axis. The index changes are estimated to be approximately 0.07×10-3.

We report the efficient continuous-wave (CW) and Q-switched laser operation of a diode-pumped Yb:YVO4 laser. A CW output power of 1 W with a slope efficiency of 59% with respect to absorbed pump power was demonstrated. Passively Q-switched with a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber, a Yb:YVO4 laser with Raman conversion was demonstrated. Q-switched 18.7- J pulses with a pulse duration of 17 ns and a peak power up to 1 kW were obtained at 1018-nm fundamental wavelength and 3.6- J pulses with a pulse duration of 6 ns and a peak power of about 0.6 kW were obtained at 1119.5-nm first-Stokes wavelength.This revised version was published online in March 2005. 3+ :Ca4GdO(BO3)3 (Nd:GdCOB). 21 mW of green cw laser emission for an absorbed pump power of 820 mW were achieved under laser diode-pumping.
64 mW of green cw laser output were obtained with 1 W of absorbed pump power under titanium-sapphire pumping. Its availability
in large-size crystals with good optical quality makes Nd:GdCOB a true challenger to the best SFD laser crystal reported so
far: Nd:YAl3(BO3)4 (Nd:YAB or NYAB).

We report the results of the first measurements of the non-linear Kerr refractive index, n2, for LiBaF3 and LiLuF4 crystal hosts, known as prospective UV-emitting tunable laser media when doped with Ce3+ ions. These n2 values (2.7×10-16 and 1.5×10-16 cm2/W at 532 nm, respectively), obtained using the well-established Z-scan technique, are important for the characterization

We demonstrate that Yb-doped Ca4GdO(BO3)3 (GdCOB) crystals are suitable for the development of high-power diode-pumped lasers emitting at around 1.04 μm. A 15%-doped
Yb:GdCOB crystal was longitudinally pumped with a cw fiber-coupled diode emitting 10 W at 976 nm. While 5.2 W of diode power
was absorbed, we obtained 3.2 W of 1043-μm laser light, with a beam quality factor M2 equal to 3, and 2.5 W in a diffraction-limited beam. Furthermore, the laser is continuously tunable between 1018 and 1086 nm.
Thermal effects have been investigated with a Shack–Hartmann wavefront analyser: although thermal lensing is not negligible,
it does not affect the performance of the laser with the resonator design we used.
