On the basis of the intensity moment formalism, within the thin-sheet approach, the beam width, the beam quality and the kurtosis parameter of a Gaussian beam propagating through active media are investigated. The analysis considers both the homogeneously and inhomogeneously broadened cases. The dependence of the above three parameters on the small-signal gain, saturation intensity and input beam size is studied. The validity of the thin-sheet approximation for the range of propagation distances and physical parameters of the system is also discussed. 相似文献

Based on our recent realization concerning the geometrically dependent gain coefficient in self-terminating gas lasers, where it is shown that in one-dimensional approach it is z-dependent, we applied the gain formulation to explain, both numerically and analytically, the behavior of the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) output energy vs. excitation length of the active medium. As an example, we used experimental measurements reported for a KrF excimer laser. In the approach it was realized that it is needed to present a gain-profile slightly lower than the gain-profile deduced from different reports appeared in the literature, where it is also indicating that the contribution of the ASE on the laser output is significant and it is the active medium length dependent. The present analytical presentation of the ASE output energy behavior, also, introduces a generalized formulation compared to that appeared in the literature. With this approach it is possible to remove most of the present ambiguities existing on understanding of the ASE behavior. 相似文献

A numerical study of the all-optical switching properties of an active nonlinear directional coupler is presented. The switching power is reduced for both CW and soliton inputs because of the gain. The switching properties of the coupler are enhanced for solitons, which switch nearly completely. For ultrashort pulses, the effects of the bandwidth of the gain medium are considered by using a general form for the gain band. The gain spectrum of erbium is also considered as a specific example. 相似文献

The propagation of radiation in a three-dimensional, inhomogeneous, stochastic, scattering medium and in an equivalent homogeneous medium has been investigated by the small-angle iteration method. The statistical structure of the scattering parameters of a three-dimensional medium has been described within the framework of the two-dimensional Poisson process and the binary Markov process. The analytical data obtained point to the fact that the three-dimensional inhomogeneity of a stochastic medium significantly influences the radiation transfer in it. 相似文献

Pulse signals, propagating through a turbulent medium such as the ionosphere, can be distorted by dispersion and scattering from both the background medium and irregularities embedded in. Thus, the mean square pulse width is changed, and temporal broadening is introduced. We carry out a study on the temporal broadening with theoretical analyses and numerical simulations by using an analytical solution of two-frequency mutual coherence function obtained recently by iteration. As a case of study, pulse broadening is investigated in detail in trans-ionospheric propagation. Results show that most contributions are mainly from the dispersion of the background ionosphere and scattering effects of electron density irregularities in most cases. 相似文献

Using the hydrodynamic model of semiconductor-plasmas and following the coupled-mode approach, a detailed analytical investigation is undertaken to study both steady-state and the transient Raman gain in transversely magnetized narrow band-gap semiconductors arising from electron density perturbations and molecular vibrations of the medium. Using the fact that the origin of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) lies in the third-order susceptibility of the medium, we obtain an expression for the gain coefficient of the backward Stokes mode in steady-state and transient regimes and study the dependence of the magnetic field and pump pulse duration on its growth rate. The threshold pump intensity and optimum pulse duration for the onset of transient SRS are estimated. An externally applied magnetic field substantially enhances the transient SRS gain coefficient in narrow band-gap semiconductors, which can be of great use in the compression of scattered pulses. 相似文献

magnitude to that for slabs in the case of plasmas with less than 0.1 cm active medium lengths. Calculations for slab targets
predict that adopting a tolerance of ±1 cm-1 for gain will severely restrict the time and the active medium length of the plasma that can be used for error-free observations,
while those for fiber targets are found to be considerably relaxed. The effects of false gain in the 54.2 Å Na Balmer α laser
is also investigated, again revealing the importance of this phenomena under optimum gain conditions.

声学阵列波束形成器的阵增益、旁瓣级、稳健性等多个指标相互关联,对于包含加权向量范数约束和旁瓣控制的高增益波束优化设计问题,针对传统的内点法波束优化算法硬件实现困难及计算复杂度大等问题,提出了多约束交替迭代求解方法。通过引入辅助变量将范数约束和旁瓣约束解耦合,进而将多约束优化转化为两组单约束优化问题。给出了优化子问题的解析或近似解。理论分析表明,与现有内点优化算法相比,所提方法计算量较小,单次迭代复杂度仅为变量及约束个数的二次多项式。采用仿真和实测的阵列流形验证了设计效果,结果表明所提方法可实现旁瓣级,阵增益和稳健性等多个波束设计指标的合理折中,计算精度与二阶锥规划算法相当,但计算量更小。 相似文献

A one-dimensional medium capable of bidirectional lossless negative group delay electromagnetic wave propagation is described. The medium is implemented as a microwave circuit comprising two symmetric resonator-loaded transmission lines, with active gain compensation and coupled through power combiners. We experimentally demonstrate the circuit is conditionally stable and is capable of lossless transmission of a finite bandwidth pulse in both directions. A measured group delay of ?600?ps with a gain of 1.12?dB in both directions is achieved for a Gaussian pulse with a bandwidth of 14?MHz modulated at a frequency of 280?MHz (NGD-bandwidth-product of 0.0084). This circuit demonstrates the possibility of constructing a one-dimensional spatial void. 相似文献

高功率激光系统中的热像效应可能导致光束的峰值功率剧烈增加,增益非线性介质会使这种光强增幅更为强烈。基于菲涅尔-基尔霍夫衍射理论和非线性近轴波动方程,对强激光在增益克尔介质工作在饱和区时的热像产生过程进行理论分析,将光束传输方程中增益饱和部分进行麦克劳林展开,取其近似,经过推导得出了介质薄近似时热像强度解析式和热像位置。通过数值模拟对解析结论预测的热像强度和位置进行验证。仿真结果表明,热像的位置在衍射物相对于介质对称处,热像强度解析结果与模拟结果相符,在薄介质时,解析解与模拟结果拟合较好。热像强度随非线性介质内非线性效应增强而停止增加,此外,讨论了热像强度随调制类型的变化。 相似文献

In this paper, reflection against and transmission through thin plasmonic metal films, basic building blocks of many plasmonic devices, are analytically investigated directly in the time domain for an impulsive electric and magnetic line-source excitation. The electromagnetic properties of thin metallic films are modeled via the Drude model. The problem is formulated with the help of approximate thin-sheet boundary conditions and the analysis is carried out using the Cagniard–DeHoop technique. Closed-form space-time expressions are found and discussed. The obtained time-domain analytical expressions reveal the existence of the phenomenon of transient oscillatory surface effects along a plasmonic metal thin sheet. Illustrative numerical examples of transmitted/reflected pulsed fields are provided. 相似文献

We measure the small-signal gain coefficient g 0 of a gold vapor laser for a 627.8 nm transition through the implementation of a discharge-driven oscillator-amplifier configuration. We study the gain dependence on the length of the laser active medium. In addition, we measure the output power of a copper-vapor laser for two different thermal insulator distributions and simulate the thermal-length profile to determine the effective length of the active medium. We show that the small-signal gain coefficient depends on the effective length of the active medium and do not depend on the physical (actual) length of the active medium. 相似文献

Employing the technique of symmetry reduction of analytic method, we solve the Ginzburg-Landau equation with varying nonlinear, dispersion, gain coefficients, and gain dispersion which originates from the limiting effect of transition bandwidth in the realistic doped fibres. The parabolic asymptotic self-similar analytical solutions in gain medium of the normal GVD is found for the first time to our best knowledge. The evolution of pulse amplitude, strict linear phase chirp and effective temporal width are given with self-similarity results in longitudinal nonlinearity distribution and longitudinal gain fibre. These analytical solutions are in good agreement with the numerical simulations. Furthermore, we theoretically prove that pulse evolution has the characteristics of parabolic asymptotic self-similarity in doped ions dipole gain fibres. 相似文献

Resonant, active coated nano-particles (CNPs) have been advocated as effective nano-amplifiers and nano-lasers. When it is properly designed to be in its super-resonant state, an electrically small active CNP captures significantly more of the incident field energy than its physical size suggests is possible. The corresponding enhancement of its extinction cross section is correlated with the concentration of the local field energy into its gain region. This energy localization can be visualized with the behavior of the flow lines of the Poynting vector field in the neighborhood of the CNP. Strong expulsion of the optical power generated from the interaction of the captured incident field energy with the gain medium creates an intense scattered field. As the interactions between the scattered field and the exciting plane wave increase, optical vortices form in the neighborhood of the active CNP. Gain depletion eventually occurs when the increase in the effective gain sufficiently detunes the resonance. A simple model for the gain enhancement effects observed in active CNPs is proposed that relates the enhanced effective size of the CNP caused by the field localization to the required gain necessary to achieve its super-resonant state. A comparison of the metal-covered, gain core, active CNP studied previously to the experimentally realized gain-impregnated silica-covered metal “SPASER” suggests that the active CNP design would require significantly less gain while offering a much larger enhancement of the incident field. Proposed modifications of both geometries that augment the field localization suggest further reductions in the gain values needed to achieve significant amplification of the output signal. 相似文献
