The effect of gasification reactions on biomass char conversion under pulverized fuel combustion conditions was studied by single particle experiments and modelling. Experiments of pine and beech wood char conversion were carried out in a single particle combustor under conditions of 1473-1723 K, 0.0-10.5% O2, and 25-42% H2O. A comprehensive progressive char conversion model, including heterogeneous reactions (char oxidation and char gasification with CO2 and H2O), homogeneous reactions (CO oxidation, water-gas shift reaction, and H2 oxidation) in the particle boundary layer, particle shrinkage, and external and internal heat and mass transfer, was developed. The modelling results are in good agreement with both experimental char conversion time and particle size evolution in the presence of oxygen, while larger deviations are found for the gasification experiments. The modelling results show that the char oxidation is limited by mass transfer, while the char gasification is controlled by both mass transfer and gasification kinetics at the investigated conditions. A sensitivity analysis shows that the CO oxidation in the boundary layer and the gasification kinetics influence significantly the char conversion time, while the water-gas shift reaction and H2 oxidation have only a small effect. Analysis of the sensitive parameters on the char conversion process under a typical pulverized biomass combustion condition (4% O2, 13% CO2, 13% H2O), shows that the char gasification reactions contribute significantly to char conversion, especially for millimeter-sized biomass char particles at high temperatures.  相似文献

A new experimental technique is proposed to measure the product CO/CO2 ratio at the surface of spherical char particles during fluidized bed combustion. It is based on the measurement of the burning rate of a single char particle under low oxygen concentration conditions and on the use of an accurate prediction of the particle Sherwood number. This technique was applied to spherical char particles obtained from a bituminous coal which is characterized by a low attrition and fragmentation propensity. The product CO/CO2 ratio was measured at a bed temperature of 850 °C and at a fluidization velocity of 0.3 m/s in a lab-scale apparatus operated with a bed of 0.5–0.6 mm sand. The char particle size was varied between 2 and 7 mm and the inlet oxygen concentration between 0.1% and 2.0%. Results showed that under the experimental conditions investigated carbon was mostly oxidized to CO2 within the particle boundary layer, with a maximum fraction of carbon escaping as CO of 10–20% at the lowest oxygen concentrations and largest particle sizes.  相似文献

The chemistry of char-N release and conversion to nitrogen-containing products has been probed by studying its release and reactions with O2, CO2, and H2O. The experiments were performed in a fixed bed flow reactor at pressures of up to 1.0 MPa. The results show that the major nitrogen-containing products observed depend on the reactant gas; with O2, NO, and N2 being the major species observed. Char-N reaction with CO2 produces N2 with very high selectivity over a broad range of pressures and CO2 concentrations, and reaction with H2O gives rise to HCN, NH3, and N2. Observed distributions of nitrogen-containing products are little affected by pressure when O2 and CO2 are the reactant gases, but increasing pressures in the reaction with H2O results in the formation of increasing proportions of NH3. Formation of NH3 is also promoted by increasing concentrations of H2O in the feed gas. The results suggest that NO and HCN are primary products when O2 and H2O, respectively, are used as the reactant gases, and that the other observed products arise from interactions of these primary products with the char surface.  相似文献

The production of hydrogen via steam reforming of ethanol (SRE) is favourable for the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel. Co–Mo6S8 possesses high activity and stability for SRE to sustainably produce hydrogen. The competition among reaction pathways related to C–H, O–H, C–C, C–O cleavage and H2 formation was studied. The adsorption and reaction of related intermediates in the ESR reaction pathway are described. The results indicated that the most feasible route for the decomposition of ethanol catalysed by Co–Mo6S8 is CH3CH2OH*→CH3CH2O*→CH3CHO*→CH2CHO*→CHCHO*→CHCO*→CH*+CO*. The CH* can be decomposed into C*+H*, and CO* can be oxidised via the redox mechanism of the water gas shift (WGS) reaction. Thus the final products are CO2 and H2. The present result may help people to design an SRE catalyst, which has the ability to break C–C to form CO and H2, then CO react with H2O in the WGS reaction generating CO2 and H2.  相似文献

For oxy-combustion with flue gas recirculation, as is commonly employed, it is recognized that elevated CO2 levels affect radiant transport, the heat capacity of the gas, and other gas transport properties. A topic of widespread speculation has concerned the effect of the CO2 gasification reaction with coal char on the char burning rate. To give clarity to the likely impact of this reaction on the oxy-fuel combustion of pulverized coal char, the Surface Kinetics in Porous Particles (SKIPPY) code was employed for a range of potential CO2 reaction rates for a high-volatile bituminous coal char particle (130 μm diameter) reacting in several O2 concentration environments. The effects of boundary layer chemistry are also examined in this analysis. Under oxygen-enriched conditions, boundary layer reactions (converting CO to CO2, with concomitant heat release) are shown to increase the char particle temperature and burning rate, while decreasing the O2 concentration at the particle surface. The CO2 gasification reaction acts to reduce the char particle temperature (because of the reaction endothermicity) and thereby reduces the rate of char oxidation. Interestingly, the presence of the CO2 gasification reaction increases the char conversion rate for combustion at low O2 concentrations, but decreases char conversion for combustion at high O2 concentrations. These calculations give new insight into the complexity of the effects from the CO2 gasification reaction and should help improve the understanding of experimentally measured oxy-fuel char combustion and burnout trends in the literature.  相似文献

A novel supercritical-pressure jet stirred reactor (SP-JSR) is developed to operate up to 200 atm. The SP-JSR provides a unique platform to conduct kinetic studies at low and intermediate temperatures at extreme pressures under uniform temperature distribution and a short flow residence time. n-Butane oxidations with varying levels of CO2 dilutions at pressures of 10 and 100 atm and over a temperature range of 500-900 K were conducted using the SP-JSR. The experiment showed that at 100 atm, a weak NTC behavior is observed and the intermediate temperature oxidation is shifted to lower temperatures. Furthermore, the results showed that CO2 addition at supercritical conditions slows down the fuel oxidation at intermediate temperature while has little effect on the low temperature oxidation. The Healy model under-predicts the NTC behavior and shows little sensitivity of the effect of CO2 addition on the n-butane oxidation. Reaction pathway and sensitivity analyses exhibit that both the low and intermediate temperature chemistries are controlled by RO2 consumption pathways. In addition, the reactions of CH3CO (+ M) and CH3CO + O2 become important at 100 atm. The results also revealed that fuel oxidation kinetics is insensitive to the third body effect of CO2. The kinetic effect of supercritical CO2 addition may come from the reactions involving H2O2, CO, CH2O, and CH3CHO, especially for the reactions of CO2 + H and CO2 + OH.  相似文献

The characteristics of gasification reactions for carbon–carbonate mixtures were experimentally investigated at high temperatures up to 900 °C, considering the application of the mixtures to the external anode media of a direct carbon fuel cell. A thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted in either a nitrogen or carbon dioxide ambient environment for Li2CO3, K2CO3 and a mixture of these two substances with carbon black. Changes in the exit gas composition were also monitored during the heating process. It was shown that gasification in the mixture media occurs much more rapidly than carbonate decomposition at elevated temperatures, even for low concentrations of CO2. It was also shown that the loading of carbonates to carbon significantly affects the global gasification reaction; it increased the reaction rate by an order of magnitude and decreased its activation energy. Based on the experimental observations, a simplified reaction model of gasification was suggested for the anode media of a DCFC, regarding carbonate-catalysed and metal-catalysed pathways of Boudouard reactions.  相似文献

The plasmochemical and/or electrocatalytical reactions of carbon monoxide with water vapour were studied. Dc corona discharge of both polarities at room temperature and temperatures enhanced up to 70°C was applied at pressures close to atmospheric. The reaction products were analysed by IR absorption spectrometry. The main products in the gas phase were CO2 and CH4. The reactions are influenced by the formation of a catalytically active surface layer on electrodes. The composition of this layer depends on the polarity of electrode.  相似文献

The effect of carbon conversion on the attrition of lignite char particles during fluidized bed gasification by CO2 was studied in a lab-scale apparatus. The influence of bed temperature and inlet CO2 concentration on carbon conversion and, consequently, on attrition was studied. The mechanical resistance of the char particles was also characterized at different stages of char conversion by specific attrition experiments. A predictive kinetic model for CO2 gasification of the lignite char was developed from the experimental results, that was able to correctly predict the evolution of carbon conversion versus time. On this basis a semi-empirical model was developed in order to simulate the evolution of carbon elutriation rate with carbon conversion degree, i.e. the gasification-assisted attrition enhancement effect.  相似文献

A detailed chemical kinetic model for oxidation of C2H4 in the intermediate temperature range and high pressure has been developed and validated experimentally. New ab initio calculations and RRKM analysis of the important C2H3 + O2 reaction was used to obtain rate coefficients over a wide range of conditions (0.003-100 bar, 200-3000 K). The results indicate that at 60 bar and medium temperatures vinyl peroxide, rather than CH2O and HCO, is the dominant product. The experiments, involving C2H4/O2 mixtures diluted in N2, were carried out in a high pressure flow reactor at 600-900 K and 60 bar, varying the reaction stoichiometry from very lean to fuel-rich conditions. Model predictions are generally satisfactory. The governing reaction mechanisms are outlined based on calculations with the kinetic model. Under the investigated conditions the oxidation pathways for C2H4 are more complex than those prevailing at higher temperatures and lower pressures. The major differences are the importance of the hydroxyethyl (CH2CH2OH) and 2-hydroperoxyethyl (CH2CH2OOH) radicals, formed from addition of OH and HO2 to C2H4, and vinyl peroxide, formed from C2H3 + O2. Hydroxyethyl is oxidized through the peroxide HOCH2CH2OO (lean conditions) or through ethenol (low O2 concentration), while 2-hydroperoxyethyl is converted through oxirane.  相似文献

Reliable prediction of char conversion, heat release, and particle temperature during heterogeneous char oxidation relies upon quantitative calculation of the CO2/CO production ratio. This ratio depends strongly on the surface temperature, but also on the local partial pressure of oxygen and thus becomes more important in simulations of oxy-fuel or pressurized combustion systems. Existing semi-empirical intrinsic kinetic models of char combustion have been calibrated against the temperature-dependence of the CO2/CO production ratio, but have neglected the effect of the local oxygen concentration. In this study we employ steady-state analysis to demonstrate the limitations of the existing 3-step semi-global kinetics models and to show the necessity of using a 5-step model to adequately capture the temperature- and oxygen-dependence of the CO2/CO production ratio. A suitable 5-step heterogeneous reaction mechanism is developed and its rate parameters fit to match CO2/CO production data, global reaction orders, and activation energies reported in the literature. The model predictions are interrogated for a broad range of conditions characteristic of pressurized, oxy-fuel, and conventional high-temperature char combustion, for which essentially no experimental information on the CO2/CO production ratio is available. The results suggest that the CO2/CO production ratio may be considerably lower than that estimated with existing power-law correlations for oxygen partial pressures less than 10 kPa and surface temperatures higher than 1600 K. To assist with implementation of the mechanistic CO2/CO production ratio results, an analytical procedure for calculating the CO2/CO production ratio is presented.  相似文献

Previous research has provided strong evidence that CO2 and H2O gasification reactions can provide non-negligible contributions to the consumption rates of pulverized coal (pc) char during combustion, particularly in oxy-fuel environments. Fully quantifying the contribution of these gasification reactions has proven to be difficult, due to the dearth of knowledge of gasification rates at the elevated particle temperatures associated with typical pc char combustion processes, as well as the complex interaction of oxidation and gasification reactions. Gasification reactions tend to become more important at higher char particle temperatures (because of their high activation energy) and they tend to reduce pc oxidation due to their endothermicity (i.e. cooling effect). The work reported here attempts to quantify the influence of the gasification reaction of CO2 in a rigorous manner by combining experimental measurements of the particle temperatures and consumption rates of size-classified pc char particles in tailored oxy-fuel environments with simulations from a detailed reacting porous particle model. The results demonstrate that a specific gasification reaction rate relative to the oxidation rate (within an accuracy of approximately +/- 20% of the pre-exponential value), is consistent with the experimentally measured char particle temperatures and burnout rates in oxy-fuel combustion environments. Conversely, the results also show, in agreement with past calculations, that it is extremely difficult to construct a set of kinetics that does not substantially overpredict particle temperature increase in strongly oxygen-enriched N2 environments. This latter result is believed to result from deficiencies in standard oxidation mechanisms that fail to account for falloff in char oxidation rates at high temperatures.  相似文献

The polar Zn-ZnO(0001) surface is involved in the catalysis of methanol synthesis and the water–gas-shift reaction. We use density functional theory calculations to explore the favorable binding geometries and energies of adsorption of several molecular species relevant to these reactions, namely carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O) and methanol (CH3OH). We also consider several proposed reaction intermediates, including hydroxymethyl (CH2OH), methoxyl (CH3), formaldehyde (CH2O), methyl (CH3), methylene (CH2), formic acid (HCOOH), formate (HCOO), formyl (HCO), hydroxyl (OH), oxygen (O) and hydrogen (H). For each, we identify the preferred binding geometry at a coverage of 1/4 monolayers (ML), and report calculated vibrational frequencies that could aid in the identification of these species in experiment. We further explore the effects on the binding energy when the adsorbate coverage is lowered to 1/9 and 1/16 ML.  相似文献

Zinc oxide has a variety of applications in catalysis both as support and as active phase for hydrogenation or dehydrogenation reactions. This review provides an overview of the surface chemistry of ZnO nanoparticles concerning the interaction with small molecules such as CO, CO2, H2, H2O, and CH3OH, which are relevant for the catalytic synthesis of methanol and the water gas shift reaction. These interactions were studied by combining surface-sensitive methods such as infrared spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption, and adsorption calorimetry. A thorough understanding of the processes occurring on the different exposed facets of the ZnO particles in an atmosphere of reactive gases was achieved based on the comparison with results obtained in ultra-high vacuum with single-crystalline surfaces, i.e. under well-defined conditions, and by using first-principles calculations.  相似文献

The reactivity of surface OH in CH4 reforming reactions was investigated by using density functional theory calculation. The key reaction pathway from CH4 into syngas by surface OH follows CH4 → CH → CHOH → CHO → CO, which is similar with the pathway induced by surface O in CO2 reforming of CH4 (CH4 → CH → CHO → CO). Surface OH decreases the possibility of CH dehydrogenation into surface carbon. Compared to surface O and OH, surface H can eliminate surface carbon deposition more efficiently.  相似文献

The ignition (light-off) temperatures of catalytic oxidation reactions provide very useful information for understanding their surface reaction mechanism. In this study, the ignition behavior of the oxidation of hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), ethane (C2H6), and propane (C3H8) over Rh/alumina catalysts is examined in a stagnation-point flow reactor. The light-off temperatures are identified by means of the sudden increase of the catalyst temperature when linearly heating the catalyst for various fuel/oxygen ratios. For hydrogen and all hydrocarbons studied, the results show a rise of ignition temperature with increasing fuel/oxygen ratio, whereas the opposite trend is observed for the light-off of CO oxidation. Hydrogen oxidation, however, shows an opposite trend compared to previous investigations, performed on platinum [1], [2].  相似文献

Raman spectroscopic technique has been used to characterize a Ru/TiO2 catalyst and to follow in situ their structural changes during the CO selective methanation reaction (S‐MET). For a better comprehension of the catalytic mechanism, the in‐situ Raman study of the catalysts activation (reduction) process, the isolated CO and CO2 methanation reactions and the effect of the composition of the reactive stream (H2O and CO2 presence) have been carried out. Raman spectroscopy evidences that the catalyst is composed by islands of TiO2–RuO2 solid solutions, constituting Ru–TiO2 interphases in the form of RuxTi1 − xO2 rutile type solid solutions. The activation procedure with H2 at 300 °C promotes the reduction of the RuO2–TiO2 islands generating Ruo–Ti3+ centers. The spectroscopic changes are in agreement with the strong increase in chemical reactivity as increasing the carbonaceous intermediates observed. The selective methanation of CO proceeds after their adsorption on these Ruo–Ti3+ active centers and subsequent C―O dissociation throughout the formation of CHx/CnHx/CnHxO/CHx―CO species. These intermediates are transformed into CH4 by a combination of hydrogenation reactions. The formation of carbonaceous species during the methanation of CO and CO2 suggests that the CO presence is required to promote the CO2 methanation. Similar carbonaceous species are detected when the selective CO methanation is carried out with water in the stream. However, the activation of the catalysts occurs at much lower temperatures, and the carbon oxidation is favored by the oxidative effect of water. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of the oxidation of hydrogen diluted by nitrogen in presence of CO2 was performed in a fused silica jet-stirred reactor (JSR) over the temperature range 800-1050 K, from fuel-lean to fuel-rich conditions and at atmospheric pressure. The mean residence time was kept constant in the experiments: 120 ms at 1 atm and 250 ms at 10 atm. The effect of variable initial concentrations of hydrogen on the combustion of methane and methane/carbon dioxide mixtures diluted by nitrogen was also experimentally studied. Concentration profiles for O2, H2, H2O, CO, CO2, CH2O, CH4, C2H6, C2H4, and C2H2 were measured by sonic probe sampling followed by chemical analyses (FT-IR, gas chromatography). A detailed chemical kinetic modeling of the present experiments and of the literature data (flame speed and ignition delays) was performed using a recently proposed kinetic scheme showing good agreement between the data and this modeling, and providing further validation of the kinetic model (128 species and 924 reversible reactions). Sensitivity and reaction paths analyses were used to delineate the important reactions influencing the kinetic of oxidation of the fuels in absence and in presence of additives (CO2 and H2). The kinetic reaction scheme proposed helps understanding the inhibiting effect of CO2 on the oxidation of hydrogen and methane and should be useful for gas turbine modeling.  相似文献

The structures and energetics of the chemisorbed CO2, CHx species and H as well as C2H4 on the α-Mo2C(0 0 0 1) surface have been computed at the GGA-RPBE level of density functional theory. It is found that CO2 adsorbs dissociately into CO and O, in agreement with the experimental finding. The adsorbed O, CHx and H species prefer the site of three surface molybdenum atoms over a second layer carbon atom (VC site). On the basis of the calculated adsorption energies of CHx and H, the sequential dehydrogenation of CH4 and the C/C coupling reaction of CHx have been discussed.  相似文献
