Objective

To determine whether metabolite ratios in multivoxel 3D proton MR spectroscopy (1H MRS) is different between low-grade and high-grade gliomas and may be useful for glioma grading.

Materials and Methods

Thirty-nine patients (23 male and 16 female; 22-75 years old; mean age, 44.92±12.65 years) suspected of having gliomas underwent 3D 1H MRS examinations. Metabolite ratios [choline (Cho)/creatine (Cr), N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/Cr and Cho/NAA] were measured. Tumor grade was determined by using the histopathologic grading. Receiver operating characteristic analysis of metabolite ratios was performed, and optimum thresholds for tumor grading were determined. The resulting sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) for identifying high-grade gliomas were calculated.

Results

Diagnostic-quality 3D 1H MRS with readily quantifiable Cho, Cr and NAA peaks was obtained in 94.87% of the cases. The Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA ratios were significantly higher in high-grade than in low-grade glioma (P<.001), whereas the NAA/Cr ratios were significantly lower in high-grade than in low-grade glioma (P<.001). Receiver operating characteristic analysis demonstrated a threshold value of 2.04 for Cho/Cr ratio to provide sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of 84.00%, 83.33%, 91.30% and 71.43%, respectively. Threshold value of 2.20 for Cho/NAA ratio resulted in sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of 88.00%, 66.67%, 84.62% and 72.73%, respectively. Overall diagnostic accuracy was not statistically significantly different between Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA ratios (χ2=0.093, P=.76).

Conclusion

Metabolite ratios of low-grade gliomas were significantly different from high-grade gliomas. Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA ratios could have the superior diagnostic performance in predicting the glioma grade.  相似文献

The CNS involvement is frequently found in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The purpose of our study was to determine whether proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) could detect early brain involvement in neurologically asymptomatic HIV-infected patients with normal MR imagings and to find the correlation between MRS and the immune status. We performed MRS in 30 HIV seropositive neurologically asymptomatic patients with normal MRI and compared the MRS findings with 13 controls. A statistically significant reduction in N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/creatine (Cr) and N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/choline (Cho) in both centrum semiovale (p < 0.005) and thalamic areas (p < 0.05) was found. There is no statistically significant difference as to choline (Cho)/creatine (Cr) and myoinositol (mI)/creatine (Cr) ratios in both regions. The difference of NAA/Cr was more pronounced in the white matter than in the gray matter. As for the immune status, there was a trend towards correlation between CD4 counts and NAA/Cr but devoid of statistical significance. Our results suggest that MRS is more sensitive than conventional MR imaging in detecting CNS involvement in neurologically asymptomatic HIV patients and may, therefore, be used for early detection of brain damage induced by HIV.  相似文献

Objective

To determine the accuracy of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), perfusion MR imaging (MRP), or volume modeling in distinguishing tumor progression from radiation injury following radiotherapy for brain metastasis.

Methods

Twenty-six patients with 33 intra-axial metastatic lesions who underwent MRS (n=41) with or without MRP (n=32) after cranial irradiation were retrospectively studied. The final diagnosis was based on histopathology (n=4) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up with clinical correlation (n=29). Cho/Cr (choline/creatinine), Cho/NAA (choline/N-acetylaspartate), Cho/nCho (choline/contralateral normal brain choline) ratios were retrospectively calculated for the multi-voxel MRS. Relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV), relative peak height (rPH) and percentage of signal-intensity recovery (PSR) were also retrospectively derived for the MRPs. Tumor volumes were determined using manual segmentation method and analyzed using different volume progression modeling. Different ratios or models were tested and plotted on the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), with their performances quantified as area under the ROC curve (AUC). MRI follow-up time was calculated from the date of initial radiotherapy until the last MRI or the last MRI before surgical diagnosis.

Results

Median MRI follow-up was 16 months (range: 2-33). Thirty percent of lesions (n=10) were determined to be radiation injury; 70% (n=23) were determined to be tumor progression. For the MRS, Cho/nCho had the best performance (AUC of 0.612), and Cho/nCho >1.2 had 33% sensitivity and 100% specificity in predicting tumor progression. For the MRP, rCBV had the best performance (AUC of 0.802), and rCBV >2 had 56% sensitivity and 100% specificity. The best volume model was percent increase (AUC of 0.891); 65% tumor volume increase had 100% sensitivity and 80% specificity.

Conclusion

Cho/nCho of MRS, rCBV of MRP, and percent increase of MRI volume modeling provide the best discrimination of intra-axial metastatic tumor progression from radiation injury for their respective modalities. Cho/nCho and rCBV appear to have high specificities but low sensitivities. In contrast, percent volume increase of 65% can be a highly sensitive and moderately specific predictor for tumor progression after radiotherapy. Future incorporation of 65% volume increase as a pretest selection criterion may compensate for the low sensitivities of MRS and MRP.  相似文献

Our purpose was to investigate, by magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopy, the metabolite changes in the brains of subjects in the shoemaking industry who had been chronically exposed to organic solvents. A total of 49 male subjects and 30 age-matched healthy volunteers underwent detailed neurological and psychiatric examinations. All subjects had long-echo [repetition time (TR) 2000 ms, echo time (TE) 136 ms] single-voxel MR spectroscopy. Voxels (15 x 15 x 15 mm(3)) were placed in the parietal white matter, thalamus, and basal ganglia. N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/creatine (Cr) and choline (Cho)/Cr ratios were calculated. There was no significant difference between the study subjects and the control group in NAA/Cr ratios obtained from thalamus, basal ganglia, and parietal white matter. Cho/Cr ratios in thalamus, basal ganglia, and parietal white matter were found to be significantly increased compared to controls. There was a positive correlation between basal ganglia Cho/Cr ratio and duration of exposure (r = 0.63). MR spectroscopy should be performed to reveal metabolite changes and determine the degree of brain involvement in solvent-related industry workers.  相似文献

This study aims to compare the apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) in the first 24 h of acute hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) in piglets. Twenty-five 7-day-old piglets were subjected to transient bilateral common carotid artery occlusion followed by ventilation with 4% oxygen for 1 h. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and 1H-MRS were performed on cessation of the insult or at 3, 6, 12 or 24 h after resuscitation (all n=5). ADCs, N-acetylaspartate/choline (NAA/Cho), NAA/creatine (NAA/Cr), lactate/NAA (Lac/NAA), Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr were calculated. Cerebral injury was evaluated by pathological study and Hsp70 immunohistochemical analysis. On cessation of the insult, ADCs, NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr reduced, Lac/NAA, Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr increased. From 3 to 12 h after resuscitation, ADCs, Lac/NAA, Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr recovered, NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr reduced. Twenty-four hours after resuscitation, ADCs reduced once more, Lac/NAA, Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr increased again, whereas NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr decreased continuously. Pathological study revealed mild cerebral edema on cessation of the insult and more and more severe cerebral injury after resuscitation. No Hsp70-positive cells were detected on cessation of the insult. From 3 to 12 hours after resuscitation, Hsp70-positive cells gradually increased. Twenty-four hours after resuscitation, Hsp70-positive cells decreased. Throughout the experiment, changes in NAA/Cho and pathology had the best correlation (R=–0.729). In conclusion, NAA/Cho is the most precise ratio to reflect the pathological changes of early HIBD. Transient ADCs and Lac ratios recovery do not predict the reversal of histological damage of early HIBD. Reducing astrocytic swelling is of great clinical significance.  相似文献

Objective

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) allows to monitor brain metabolites noninvasively in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The objective of this study was to use MRS to monitor the effect of minocycline treatment (200 mg/day) over a short period (6 weeks) on the brain metabolites in the precentral gyrus and brainstem in newly diagnosed ALS patients.

Methods

Ten ALS patients (not on riluzole treatment) were recruited and submitted to single-voxel proton MRS longitudinal examinations (1) before minocycline treatment, (2) 3 weeks and (3) 6 weeks after initiation of treatment.

Results

Results did not show the expected decrease of N-acetylaspartate/creatine (NAA/Cr) in the precentral gyrus, and an increased NAA/Cr ratio in the brainstem suggested neuronal recovery. The myo-inositol (mI)/Cr ratio was unchanged in the precentral gyrus, but increased in the brainstem, indicating a glial reaction.

Conclusions

MRS results suggest that minocycline treatment could be beneficial in the early stages of ALS.  相似文献

The precision of cerebral proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) measurements is critical both in the clinical setting and for research purposes. Marshall et al. have recently concluded that “disappointing in vivo repeatability…is likely to limit” the ability of MRS to detect modest changes. We present here a comprehensive study of the precision of short- and long-term metabolite peak area ratios and water referenced metabolite peak areas for long echo time point resolved spectroscopy (PRESS) spectra (repetition time (TR) = 2000 ms, echo time (TE) = 136 ms) acquired from the occipital lobes of normal volunteers and a phantom using a conventional whole body 1.5 T MR system and conventional acquisition and analysis protocols. Short-term in vitro precision determined by five repeat scans on five occasions was excellent as measured by a mean coefficient of variation (NAA/Cho = 1.3%, NAA/Cr + PCr = 1.0%, Cho/Cr + PCr = 1.6%, NAA/H2O = 0.5%, Cho/H2O = 1.2%, Cr + PCr/H2O = 0.8%). Long term in vitro precision using 100 spectra acquired over 2 years was also very good (NAA/Cho = 2.7%, NAA/Cr + PCr = 1.4%, Cho/Cr + PCr = 2.2%, NAA/H2O = 1.5%, Cho/H2O = 2.4%, Cr + PCr/H2O = 1.5%). Short-term in vivo precision determined by five repeat scans in a single scanning session on eight subjects was also excellent (NAA/Cho = 5.2%, NAA/Cr + PCr = 3.0%, Cho/Cr + PCr = 6.6%, NAA/H2O = 1.4%, Cho/H2O = 4.9%, Cr + PCr/H2O = 2.7%) and only worsened slightly for long-term in vivo precision determined by five repeat scans on eight subjects over 3 months (NAA/Cho = 5.2%, NAA/Cr + PCr = 4.8%, Cho/Cr + PCr = 7.7%, NAA/H2O = 2.5%, Cho/H2O = 6.4%, Cr + PCr/H2O = 3.8%). We attribute the excellent precision reported here to the use of highly automated techniques for voxel shimming, water suppression and peak area measurements. These results allow us to repudiate Marshall’s assertion regarding disappointing repeatability of in vivo MRS.  相似文献

Background and Purpose

Influenza viral infection, which results in central nervous system dysfunction, is a major cause of acute encephalopathy (AE). The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the concentrations of brain metabolites in children with AE using single-voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and to provide diagnostic information about the relationship between the symptoms of AE and metabolite concentrations.

Materials and Methods

The subjects were 10 children (mean age: 6.2 years; range: 1–13) with AE caused by the novel influenza A virus responsible for the 2009 influenza pandemic. The serial MRS data (TE/TR=30/5000 ms, 3 T) acquired from the basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CS) of each patient were categorized into three periods: (1) initial neurological symptom presentation and the start of treatment (n= 10), (2) short-term follow-up (n= 9) and (3) long-term follow-up (n= 3). As controls, the magnetic resonance (MR) spectra of eight age-matched children were also investigated.

Results

In both regions, the concentrations of the major metabolites (N-acetylaspartate, creatine, choline, myo-inositol, glutamate/glutamine complex and glutamate) only showed minor fluctuations between the three periods. On the other hand, higher levels of taurine (Tau) were observed in the BG during the second period (P=.005), and increased levels of glucose were observed in the CS during the first (P=.005) and second (P=.036) periods.

Conclusions

Serial monitoring of brain metabolite changes was carried out with a clinical MR system. The concentrations of major metabolites only displayed very minor fluctuations in response to mild H1N1-related AE. However, a higher Tau concentration was found to be associated with neurological symptoms. Further studies are required to improve our understanding of the detailed activity of Tau in AE.  相似文献

We aimed to investigate the changes in proton metabolite levels at the motor and somatosensory cortex by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) after upper extremity replantation or revascularization. Nine patients who referred to our clinic suffering from major total (two) and subtotal (seven) amputation of the upper extremity were enrolled in this study. Mean time value between the injury and operation was 5.1 h. Mean follow-up period or mean time between the injury and MRS analysis was 26.2 months (ranging from 7 to 41 months). Voxels (TR: 2000; TE: 136 ms) were placed onto locations in the bilateral precentral and postcentral cortex area of the cerebral hemispheres that represent the upper extremity. Contralateral sides of the brain hemisphere that represent the injured extremity were accounted as control groups. Metabolite ratios [NAA (N-acetyl aspartate)/Cr (creatine) and Cho (choline)/Cr] of the motor and somatosensory cortex were calculated. The NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr metabolite ratios between the two groups were found to be insignificant, and these results may indicate that there is no remarkable somatosensorial cortex disruption or demyelination in these patients. Fifty-six percent of patients were found as functional according to Chen's scale.  相似文献

The metabolic changes in the brain of patients affected with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) alone, both Type 2 DM and hypothyroidism and hypothyroidism only were investigated using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H MRS). Single-voxel spectroscopy was carried out in right and left frontal lobe white matter, left parietal white matter and left occipital gray matter. Choline (Cho)/creatine (Cr) value was found to be increased in the left occipital gray matter of the subjects affected with Type 2 DM and both Type 2 DM and hypothyroidism as compared to controls. No significant change in the Cho/Cr value in the occipital gray matter was observed in hypothyroid subjects as compared to controls. However, they showed an increased level of Cho/Cr in the frontal white matter. High Cho is associated with altered membrane phospholipid metabolism. The high Cho in frontal white matter in hypothyroids and occipital gray matter in diabetic patients suggests that, though both the diseases are endocrine disorders, they differ from each other in terms of regional brain metabolite changes.  相似文献

Due to the homology between retinal and cerebral microvasculatures, retinopathy is a putative indicator of cerebrovascular dysfunction. This study aimed to detect metabolite changes of brain tissue in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS). Twenty-nine T2DM patients with DR (DR group), thirty T2DM patients without DR (DM group) and thirty normal controls (NC group) were involved in this study. Single-voxel 1H-MRS (TR: 2000 ms, TE: 30 ms) was performed at 3.0 T MRI/MRS imager in cerebral left frontal white matter, left lenticular nucleus, and left optic radiation. Our data showed that NAA/Cr ratios of the DR group were significantly lower than those of the DM group in the frontal white matter and optic radiation. In the lenticular nucleus, MI/Cr ratios were significantly higher in the DM group than those in the NC group, while MI/Cr ratios were significantly lower in the DR group than those in the DM group. In the frontal white matter, NAA/Cho ratios were found to be decreased in the DR group as compared to the NC group. Additionally, our finding indicated that NAA/Cr ratios were negatively associated with DR severity in both the frontal white matter and optic radiation. A decrease in NAA indicated neuronal loss and the likely explanation for a decrease in MI was glial loss. In conclusion, we inferred that cerebral neurons and glia cells were damaged in patients with DR. Our data support that DR is associated with brain tissue damage.  相似文献

Background and Purpose

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated dementia (HAD) has been extensively studied using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) at field strengths of 1.5 T. Higher magnetic field strengths (such as 3 T) allow for more reliable determination of certain compounds, such as glutamate (Glu) and glutamine (Gln). The current study was undertaken to investigate the utility of 3-T MRS for evaluating HIV+ patients with different levels of cognitive impairment with emphasis on the measurement of Glu and Glx (the sum of Glu and Gln).

Methods

Eighty-six HIV+ subjects were evaluated at 3 T using quantitative short echo time single-voxel MRS of frontal white matter (FWM) and basal ganglia (BG). Subjects were divided into three groups according to the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) HIV dementia stage: 21 had normal cognition (NC) (MSK 0), 31 had mild cognitive impairment (MCI) without dementia (clinical MSK stage=0.5), and 34 had dementia (HAD) (MSK≥1). HIV+ subjects had also undergone standardized cognitive testing covering the domains of executive function, verbal memory, attention, information processing speed and motor and psychomotor speed. Between-group differences in metabolite levels in FWM and BG were evaluated using ANOVA. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to explore the associations between the Glu and Glx metabolites and neurocognitive results.

Results

FWM Glx was lower in HAD (8.1±2.1 mM) compared to both the MCI (9.17±2.1 mM) and NC groups (10.0±1.6 mM) (P=.006). FWM myo-inositol (mI) was higher in HAD (4.15±0.75 mM) compared to both MCI (3.86±0.85 mM) and NC status (3.4±0.67 mM) (P=.006). FWM Glx/creatine (Cr) was lower and FWM mI/Cr was significantly higher in the HAD compared to the MCI and NC groups (P=.01 and P=.004, respectively). BG N-acetyl aspartate (NAA) was lower in the HAD group (6.79±1.53 mM), compared to the MCI (7.5±1.06 mM) and NC (7.6±1.01 mM) groups (P=.036). Significant negative correlations were observed between Glu, Glx and NAA concentrations with Trail-Making Test B (P=.006, P=.0001 and P=.007, respectively), and significant positive correlation was found with the Digit symbol test (P=.02, P=.002 and P=.008, respectively). FWM Glx and NAA concentrations showed negative correlation with Grooved Pegboard nondominant hand (P=.02 and P=.04, respectively).

Conclusion

Patients with HAD have lower levels of Glx concentrations and Glx/Cr ratio in FWM, which was associated with impaired performance in specific cognitive domains, including executive functioning, fine motor, attention and working memory performance. Three-Tesla MRS measurements of Glx may be a useful indicator of neuronal loss/dysfunction in patients with HIV infection.  相似文献

In vivo localized proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) studies of brain were performed on eighteen normal subjects using the stimulated echo (STE) sequence. The absolute concentrations and proton relaxation times of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), total creatine (Cr) and choline (Cho) were estimated. The MRS data was quantitatively analyzed for repeatability and intersubject variability. Quantitative analysis indicates excellent spectral repeatability. Significant intersubject variations in [NAA] and [Cr] have been observed while the intersubject variability in [Cho] has been found to be fairly small. Significant intensity distortions have been observed for mixing times longer than 50 msec.  相似文献

Purpose

To minimize user and vendor dependence of the spectrum processing of prostate spectra, to measure the ratio of choline (Cho) plus creatine (Cr) to citrate (Cit) in the prostate tissue of normal volunteers and cancer patients, and to compare the results with pathologic findings after radical prostatectomy.

Materials and methods

Four healthy volunteers and 13 patients with prostate cancer were measured. Measurements were performed using two-dimensional magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) and endorectal coil. A standard vendor's spectrum processing approach has been modified. An original feature of this methodology was the combination of vendor-optimized and user-independent spectrum preprocessing in the scanner and user-independent quantitation in the environment of an MRUI software package. (Cho+Cr)/Cit ratio was used for the classification of prostate tissue. Results were compared with histopathology after radical prostatectomy.

Results

Eight of 13 cancer patients were classified as suspicious or very suspicious for cancer at spectroscopy, three were ambiguous for cancer and two patients were evaluated as false negative. A considerable overlap of metabolite ratios at various Gleason score was found.

Conclusion

The proposed spectrum processing has the potential to improve the accuracy and user independency of the (Cho+Cr)/Cit quantitation. This study confirmed the previous results that a considerable overlap of (Cho+Cr)/Cit ratios exists at various Gleason score levels.  相似文献

Objectives

As a unique tool to assess metabolic fluxes noninvasively, 13C magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) could help to characterize and understand malignancy in human tumors. However, its low sensitivity has hampered applications in patients. The aim of this study was to demonstrate that with sensitivity-optimized localized 13C MRS and intravenous infusion of [1-13C]glucose under euglycemia, it is possible to assess the dynamic conversion of glucose into its metabolic products in vivo in human glioma tissue.

Materials and Methods

Measurements were done at 3 T with a broadband single RF channel and a quadrature 13C surface coil inserted in a 1H volume coil. A 1H/13C polarization transfer sequence was applied, modified for localized acquisition, alternatively in two (50 ml) voxels, one encompassing the tumor and the other normal brain tissue.

Results

After about 20 min of [1-13C]glucose infusion, a [3-13C]lactate signal appeared among several resonances of metabolic products of glucose in MR spectra of the tumor voxel. The resonance of [3-13C]lactate was absent in MR spectra from contralateral tissue. In addition, the intensity of [1-13C]glucose signals in the tumor area was about 50% higher than that in normal tissue, likely reflecting more glucose in extracellular space due to a defective blood–brain barrier. The signal intensity for metabolites produced in or via the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle was lower in the tumor than in the contralateral area, albeit that the ratios of isotopomer signals were comparable.

Conclusion

With an improved 13C MRS approach, the uptake of glucose and its conversion into metabolites such as lactate can be monitored noninvasively in vivo in human brain tumors. This opens the way to assessing metabolic activity in human tumor tissue.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and perfusion of central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) have been rarely reported. One case of CPM that developed after liver transplantation was analyzed with serial diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), MRS and MR perfusion. During the acute phase, a pontine lesion showed an obvious high-signal intensity on DWI with decreased apparent diffusion coefficient value, decreased N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/creatine (Cr) ratio, increased choline (Cho)/Cr ratio and increased perfusion on the cerebral blood volume map. In a later phase, the lesion showed isosignal intensity on DWI, further decreased NAA/Cr ratio, increased Cho/Cr ratio and decreased perfusion. To determine whether differences exist between neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients with or without focal lesions and healthy normal volunteers in the metabolite ratios of normal appearing white matter, 27 patients with NF1 (with parenchymal lesion, MR positive, n: 17; without parenchymal lesions, MR negative, n: 10) and 20 healthy volunteers underwent MRI and short TE (31 ms) proton MR spectroscopy (MRS). In 17 patients with parenchymal lesions, 61 focal lesions were detected by MRI. MRS was performed from normal appearing frontal and posterior parietal white matter (FWM and PWM) in NF1 and from control groups. NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr and MI/Cr ratios were calculated. Significant increase in Cho/Cr and MI/Cr ratios were found in FWM and PWM in MR negative and positive groups when compared to control group. NAA/Cr ratio in MR positive group was significantly decreased in FWM compared to control group. There were no significant differences between FWM and PWM in all metabolite ratios of MR negative group. MI/Cr ratio in MR positive group was significantly elevated in PWM compared to FWM. Metabolite changes detected by MRS could indicate demyelination and gliosis in normal appearing white matter in all NF1 patients, and additionally neuroaxonal damage in the FWM of NF1 patients with focal lesions. For that reason, in the clinical evaluation and follow-up of these patients MRS features of normal appearing white matter should be considered in addition to focal lesions.  相似文献

This study was aimed to investigate the significance of absolute concentration of metabolites in glioma patients using proton MR spectroscopy (MRS) with T2 relaxation time correction using three different echo times. The absolute concentrations of metabolites in 7 normal subjects and in 23 gliomas (10 low-grade, 13 high-grade) were obtained by proton MRS using a tissue water signal as an internal standard. The signal intensities of metabolites and tissue water were corrected by T2 relaxation time. In low-grade glioma, the T2 relaxation time of NAA was shorter, and T2 relaxation time of water was prolonged as compared to normal subjects (p < 0.001). In high-grade glioma, the T2 relaxation time of NAA (p < 0.001) and T2 relaxation time of Cr (p < 0.01) were shorter, and T2 relaxation time of water (p < 0.001) was prolonged as compared to normal subjects. Moreover, high-grade gliomas revealed a shorter T2 relaxation time of Cr than low-grade gliomas (p < 0.05). In glioma, NAA and Cr concentration were decreased, and Cho were increased as compared to normal subjects. Moreover, high-grade glioma revealed a significant lower Cr (p < 0.001) and Cho (p < 0.01) concentration compared to low-grade gliomas. Low Cr concentration is the most reliable indicator of malignancy in glioma. Cho concentration did not correlate with malignancy in gliomas.  相似文献
