The dynamics of nonlinear pulse propagation in an average dispersion-managed soliton system is governed by a constant coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. For a special set of parameters the constant coefficient NLS equation is completely integrable. The same constant coefficient NLS equation is also applicable to optical fiber systems with phase modulation or pulse compression. We also investigate MI arising in the cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation for ultrashort pulse propagation. Within this framework, we derive ordinary differential equations (ODE’s) for the time evolution of the amplitude and phase of modulation perturbations. Analyzing the ensuing ODE’s, we derive the classical modulational instability criterion and identify it numerically. We show that the quintic nonlinearity can be essential for the stability of solutions. The evolutions of modulational instability are numerically investigated and the effects of the quintic nonlinearity on the evolutions are examined. Numerical simulations demonstrate the validity of the analytical predictions.  相似文献

The authors show the formation of slow temporal vector optical solitons in a cold lifetime-broadened four-level inverted-Y atomic system. We demonstrate that Maxwell’s equations for describing two orthogonally polarised components of a low intensity signal field can evolve into two coupled nonlinear Schr?dinger equations, which results in various distortion-free temporal vector optical solitons, such as bright-bright or dark-dark vector solitons. These results are produced from the correct balance between dispersion, self- and cross-phase modulation (SPM and XPM) effects. We also show that the integrable Manakov model can be realised by adjusting the corresponding SPM, XPM and dispersion effects of this inverted-Y atomic system.  相似文献

A nonlinear stage of the two-dimensional Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two magnetic fluids of finite thickness is studied by including the effect of surface tension between the two fluids. The system is subjected to a tangential magnetic field. The method of multiple scale perturbations is used in order to obtain uniformly valid expansions near the cutoff wavenumber separating stable and unstable deformations. Two nonlinear Schrödinger equations are obtained, one of which leads to the determination of the cutoff wavenumber. The other Schrödinger equation is used to analyze the stability of the system. It is found that if a finite-amplitude disturbance is stable, then a small modulation to the wave is also stable. It is also found that the tangential magnetic field plays a dual role in the stability criterion. Finally, the magnetic permeability constants of the fluid affect the stability conditions.  相似文献

Collisions and interactions of dispersive shock waves in defocusing (repulsive) nonlinear Schrödinger type systems are investigated analytically and numerically. Two canonical cases are considered. In one case, two counterpropagating dispersive shock waves experience a head-on collision, interact and eventually exit the interaction region with larger amplitudes and altered speeds. In the other case, a fast dispersive shock overtakes a slower one, giving rise to an interaction. Eventually the two merge into a single dispersive shock wave. In both cases, the interaction region is described by a modulated, quasi-periodic two-phase solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The boundaries between the background density, dispersive shock waves and their interaction region are calculated by solving the Whitham modulation equations. These asymptotic results are in excellent agreement with full numerical simulations. It is further shown that the interactions of two dispersive shock waves have some qualitative similarities to the interactions of two classical shock waves.  相似文献

New exact solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation and coupled higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations are obtained by using the generalized Jacobi elliptic function method. Solutions in the limiting cases are also studied.  相似文献

We study the nonlinear dynamics of DNA which takes into account the twist-opening interactions due to the helicoidal molecular geometry. The small amplitude dynamics of the model is shown to be governed by a solution of a set of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. We analyze the modulational instability and solitary wave solution in the case. On the basis of this system, we present the condition for modulation instability occurrence and attention is paid to the impact of the backbone elastic constant K. It is shown that high values of K extend the instability region. Through the Jacobian elliptic function method, we derive a set of exact solutions of the twist-opening model of DNA. These solutions include, Jacobian periodic solution as well as kink and kink-bubble solitons.  相似文献

Two coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations describing the transmission of subpicosecond pulses in strongly birefringent fibers with Raman scattering are studied by a symmetry reduction method and a perturbative technique. Two families of approximate vector solitary waves are obtained. Reduction of the Raman frequency shift in birefringent fibers is established.  相似文献

This paper presents the coupled version of a previous work on nonlinear Schrödinger equation [23]. It focuses on the construction of approximate solutions of nonlinear Schrödinger equations. In this paper, we applied the differential transformation method (DTM) to solving coupled Schrödinger equations. The obtained results show that the technique suggested here is accurate and easy to apply.  相似文献

We considered a high birefringence fiber ring cavity, which can be represented by a system of two incoherently coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with periodic boundary conditions. The stability of the system against time domain periodic perturbations could be strongly conditioned by fiber birefringence. We apply both a perturbative approach and a mean field approximation, in order to highlight the dependence of modulation instability on birefringence and ring detuning. We extend the study of the dynamical properties of the system by means of a phase matching interpretation and a selection of numerical solutions of the governing equations.  相似文献

The dynamics of waves in weakly nonlinear dispersive media can be described by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). An important feature of the equation is that it can be derived in a number of different physical contexts; therefore, analogies between different fields, such as for example fiber optics, water waves, plasma waves and Bose–Einstein condensates, can be established. Here, we investigate the similarities between wave propagation in optical Kerr media and water waves. In particular, we discuss the modulation instability (MI) in both media. In analogy to the water wave problem, we derive for Kerr-media the Benjamin–Feir index, i.e. a nondimensional parameter related to the probability of formation of rogue waves in incoherent wave trains.  相似文献

We present a general method which enables us to prove the orbital stability of some standing waves in nonlinear Schrödinger equations. For example, we treat the cases of nonlinear Schrödinger equations arising in laser beams, of time-dependent Hartree equations ....  相似文献

An improved quantum model for exciton–phonon dynamics in an α-helix is investigated taking into account the interspine coupling and the influence of power-law long-range exciton–exciton interactions. Having constructed the model Hamiltonian, we derive the lattice equations and employ the Fourier transforms to go in continuum space showing that the long-range interactions (LRI) lead to a nonlocal integral term in the equations of motion. Indeed, the non-locality originating from the LRI results in the dynamic equations with space derivatives of fractional order. New theoretical frameworks are derived, such that: fractional generalization of coupled Zakharov equations, coupled nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equations, coupled fractional Ginzburg–Landau equations, coupled Hilbert–Zakharov equations, coupled nonlinear Hilbert–Ginzburg–Landau equations, coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations and coupled nonlinear Hilbert–Schrödinger equations. Through the F-expansion method, we derive a set of exact Jacobian solutions of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. These solutions include Jacobian periodic solutions as well as bright and dark soliton which are important in the process of energy transport in the molecule. We also discuss of the impact of LRI on the energy transport in the molecule.  相似文献

This paper constructs perfectly matched layers (PML) for a system of 2D coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with mixed derivatives which arises in the modeling of gap solitons in nonlinear periodic structures with a non-separable linear part. The PML construction is performed in Laplace–Fourier space via a modal analysis and can be viewed as a complex change of variables. The mixed derivatives cause the presence of waves with opposite phase and group velocities, which has previously been shown to cause instability of layer equations in certain types of hyperbolic problems. Nevertheless, here the PML is stable if the absorption function σσ lies below a specified threshold. The PML construction and analysis are carried out for the linear part of the system. Numerical tests are then performed in both the linear and nonlinear regimes checking convergence of the error with respect to the layer width and showing that the PML performs well even in many nonlinear simulations.  相似文献

With the aid of symbolic computation, we demonstrate that the known method which is based on the new generalized hyperbolic functions and the new kinds of generalized hyperbolic function transformations, generates classes of exact solutions to a system of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. This system includes the modified Hubbard model and the system of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger derived by Lazarides and Tsironis. Four types of solutions for this system are given explicitly, namely: new bright-bright, new dark-dark, new bright-dark and new dark-bright solitons.  相似文献

A generalized Darboux transformation for the coupled cubic–quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation is constructed by the Darboux matrix method. As applications, the Nth-order rogue wave solutions of the coupled cubic–quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation have been obtained. In particular, the dynamics of the general first- and second-order rogue waves are discussed and illustrated through some figures.  相似文献

There are a lot of difficulties and troubles in quantum mechanics, when the linear Schrödinger equation is used to describe microscopic particles. Thus, we here replace it by a nonlinear Schrödinger equation to investigate the properties and rule of microscopic particles. In such a case we find that the motion of microscopic particle satisfies classical rule and obeys the Hamiltonian principle, Lagrangian and Hamilton equations. We verify further the correctness of these conclusions by the results of nonlinear Schrödinger equation under actions of different externally applied potential. From these studies, we see clearly that rules and features of motion of microscopic particle described by nonlinear Schrödinger equation are greatly different from those in the linear Schrödinger equation, they have many classical properties, which are consistent with concept of corpuscles. Thus, we should use the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to describe microscopic particles.  相似文献

In this paper, a Hirota method is developed for applying to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with an arbitrary time-dependent linear potential which denotes the dynamics of soliton solutions in quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensation. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation is decoupled to two equations carefully. With a reasonable assumption the one- and two-soliton solutions are constructed analytically in the presence of an arbitrary time-dependent linear potential.  相似文献

The possibility of the decomposition of the three-dimensional (3D) Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) into a pair of coupled Schrödinger-type equations, is investigated. It is shown that, under suitable mathematical conditions, it is possible to construct the exact controlled solutions of the 3D GPE from the solutions of a linear 2D Schrödinger equation coupled with a 1D nonlinear Schrödinger equation (the transverse and longitudinal components of the GPE, respectively). The coupling between these two equations is the functional of the transverse and the longitudinal profiles. The applied method of nonlinear decomposition, called the controlling potential method (CPM), yields the full 3D solution in the form of the product of the solutions of the transverse and longitudinal components of the GPE. It is shown that the CPM constitutes a variational principle and sets up a condition on the controlling potential well. Its physical interpretation is given in terms of the minimization of the (energy) effects introduced by the control. The method is applied to the case of a parabolic external potential to construct analytically an exact BEC state in the form of a bright soliton, for which the quantitative comparison between the external and controlling potentials is presented.  相似文献

An algorithm is devised for deriving exact traveling wave solutions of a three-component system of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations by means of Exp-function method. This method was previously applied to nonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs) or two coupled NLPDEs, here it is applied to three coupled NLPDES. This work continues to reinforce the idea that the Exp-function method, with the help of symbolic computation, provides a powerful mathematical tool for solving nonlinear partial differential equations.  相似文献

An interaction of vector solitons in the frame of coupled third-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations taking into account third-order linear dispersion, nonlinear dispersion, and cross-phase modulation terms is considered. Phase nature of the solitons? interaction is shown. In particular, dependence of solitons? trajectories on initial distance between solitons is shown. Conditions of reflection and propagation of solitons through each other are obtained.  相似文献
