Reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) has been used to investigate the adsorption of CO on CeO2−x-supported Pd nanoparticles at room temperature. The results show that when CeO2−x is initially grown on Pt(1 1 1), a small proportion of the surface remains as bare Pt sites. However, when Pd is deposited onto CeO2−x/Pt(1 1 1), most of the Pd grows directly on top of the CeO2−x(1 1 1). RAIR spectra of CO adsorption on 1 ML Pd/CeO2−x/Pt(1 1 1) show a broad CO-Pd band, which is inconsistent with a single crystal Pd surface. However, the 5 ML and 10 ML Pd/CeO2−x/Pt(1 1 1) spectra show vibrational bands consistent with the presence of Pd(1 1 1) and (1 0 0) faces, suggesting the growth of Pd nanostructures with well defined facets.  相似文献

A combined atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study of tungsten oxide model catalysts is presented. The model catalysts were prepared by applying the real preparation method to a ZrO2(1 0 0) single crystal support. AFM imaged several granular structures of scattered dimensions on the surface of ZrO2(1 0 0) in the as prepared samples. After heating, at low loading the tungsten species rearranged into small WOx particles strongly interacting with the substrate. At high tungsten content large WO3 aggregates also formed. XPS analysis confirmed these changes. The estimated surface density of the interacting W-containing species closely matched that of real catalysts.  相似文献

Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) was used to investigate carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption on 0.15 nm-thick-0.6 nm-thick Pd-deposited Pt(1 1 1) bimetallic surfaces: Pdx/Pt(1 1 1) (where x is the Pd thickness in nanometers) fabricated using molecular beam epitaxial method at substrate temperatures of 343 K, 473 K, and 673 K. Reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) measurements for Pd0.15-0.6 nm/Pt(1 1 1) surfaces fabricated at 343 K showed that Pd grows epitaxially on a clean Pt(1 1 1), having an almost identical lattice constant of Pt(1 1 1). The 1.0 L CO exposure to the clean Pt(1 1 1) at room temperature yielded linearly bonded and bridge-bonded CO-Pt bands at 2093 and 1855 cm−1. The CO-Pt band intensities for the CO-exposed Pdx/Pt(1 1 1) surfaces decreased with increasing Pd thickness. For Pd0.3 nm/Pt(1 1 1) deposited at 343 K, the 1933 cm−1 band caused by bridge-bonded CO-Pd enhanced the spectral intensity. The linear-bonded CO-Pt band (2090 cm−1) almost disappeared and the bridge-bonded CO-Pd band dominated the spectra for Pd0.6 nm/Pt(1 1 1). With increasing substrate temperature during the Pd depositions, the relative band intensities of the CO-Pt/CO-Pd increased. For the Pd0.3 nm/Pt(1 1 1) deposited at 673 K, the linear-bonded CO-Pt and bridge-bonded CO-Pd bands are located respectively at 2071 and 1928 cm−1. The temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) spectrum for the 673 K-deposited Pd0.3 nm/Pt(1 1 1) showed that a desorption signal for the adsorbed CO on the Pt sites decreased in intensity and shifted ca. 20 K to a lower temperature than those for the clean Pt(1 1 1). We discuss the CO adsorption behavior on well-defined Pd-deposited Pt(1 1 1) bimetallic surfaces.  相似文献

Using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD), we investigated carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption and desorption behaviors on atomic checkerboard structures of Cu and Pd formed by Pd vacuum deposition at various temperatures of Cu(1 0 0). The 0.15-nm-thick Pd deposition onto a clean Cu(1 0 0) surface at room temperature (RT) showed a clear c(2 × 2) low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) pattern, i.e. Cu(1 0 0)-c(2 × 2)-Pd. The RT-CO exposure to the c(2 × 2) surfaces resulted in IRRAS absorption caused by CO adsorbed on the on-top sites of Pd. The LEED patterns of the Pd-deposited Cu(1 0 0) at higher substrate temperatures revealed less-contrasted c(2 × 2) patterns. The IRRAS intensities of the linearly bonded CO bands on 373-K-, 473-K-, and 673-K-deposited c(2 × 2) surfaces are, respectively, 25%, 22%, and 10% less intense than those on the RT-deposited surface, indicating that Pd coverages at the outermost c(2 × 2) surfaces decrease with increasing deposition temperature. In the initial stage of the 90-K-CO exposure to the RT surface, the band attributable to CO bonded to the Pd emerged at 2067 cm−1 and shifted to higher frequencies with increasing CO exposure. At saturation coverage, the band was located at 2093 cm−1. In contrast, two distinct bands around 2090 cm−1 were apparent on the spectrum of the 473-K-deposited surface: the CO saturation spectrum was dominated by an apparent single absorption at 2090 cm−1 for the 673-K-deposited surface. The TPD spectra of the surfaces showed peaks at around 200 and 300 K, which were ascribable respectively to Cu-CO and Pd-CO. Taking into account the TPD and IRRAS results, we discuss the adsorption-desorption behaviors of CO on the ordered checkerboard structures.  相似文献

Structural changes that occur on Pd-Nb2O5/Cu3Au(1 0 0) model catalysts upon thermal annealing were followed by sum frequency generation (SFG) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) using CO as probe molecule. SFG experiments were performed both under ultrahigh vacuum and mbar pressure. Heating the catalyst to temperatures above 300 K lead to an irreversible 50% decrease in the CO adsorption capacity and modified the remaining adsorption sites. Alterations of the phase between resonant and non-resonant SFG signals upon annealing indicate a change in the electronic structure of the surface, which excludes Pd sintering or migration of Nb2O5 over Pd particles to cause the observed effect and rather suggests the formation of “mixed Pd-NbOx” sites. The same changes in surface properties also occur during CO hydrogenation at 1 bar and high temperature, pointing to an involvement of “mixed Pd-NbOx” sites in catalytic reactions.  相似文献

Temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been employed to study the adsorption and photon-induced decomposition of Mo(CO)6. Mo(CO)6 adsorbs molecularly on a Pt(1 1 1) surface with weak interaction at 100 K and desorbs intact at 210 K without undergoing thermal decomposition. Adsorbed Mo(CO)6 undergoes decarbonylation to form surface Mo(CO)x (x ? 5) under irradiation of ultraviolet light. The Mo(CO)x species can release further CO ligands to form Mo adatoms with CO desorption at 285 K. In addition, a fraction of the released CO ligands transfers onto the Pt surface and subsequently desorbs at 350-550 K. The resulting Mo layer deposited on the Pt surface is nearly free of contamination by C and O. The deposited Mo adatoms can diffuse into the bulk Pt at temperatures above 1070 K.  相似文献

The present work analyses the mechanism of W2C/C nanocomposite formation during sonolysis of W(CO)6 in diphenylmethane (DPhM) solutions. Carbon supported WCx nanoparticles attract much interest as an alternative fuel cell electrocatalysts. Sonolysis of neat DPhM under the effect of 20 kHz power ultrasound in argon at 80 °C yields a sonopolymer as a solid product and acetylene, hydrogen, methane, diacetylene and benzene as gaseous products. Diacetylene is formed due to the secondary sonochemical dimerisation of acetylene obtained at the primary stage of DPhM sonolysis. FTIR and μ-Raman studies show that the sonopolymer consists of a mixture of some polymeric partially oxidized aromatic species, and disordered carbon. Sonolysis of W(CO)6 in diphenylmethane solutions follows the first order kinetics. This process yields monodispersed 2-3 nm X-ray amorphous WCx nanoparticles embedded in amorphous sonopolymer. The annealing of air sensitive as-prepared solids in an inert atmosphere at 600 °C causes formation of stable W2C/C nanocomposite with W2C average particle size in the range of 4-7 nm and hexagonal carbon fine particles with the average size of 30-40 nm. Kinetic study revealed that tungsten carbide is formed inside the cavitation bubble due to the reaction of tungsten nanoparticles originated from primary sonolysis of W(CO)6 with acetylene produced as a result of diphenylmethane sonochemical degradation.  相似文献

Glasses with composition xWO3·(30−x)M2O·70B2O3 (M=Li, Na; 0≤x≤15) doped with 2 mol% V2O5 have been prepared using the melt-quench technique. The electron paramagnetic resonance spectra have been recorded in X-band (ν≈9.14 GHz) at room temperature (RT). The spin Hamiltonian parameters, dipolar hyperfine coupling parameter and Fermi contact interaction parameter have been calculated. It is observed that the resultant resonance spectra contain hyperfine structures (hfs) only due to V4+ ions, which exist as VO2+ ions in octahedral coordination with a tetragonal compression in the present glass system. The tetragonality increases with WO3:M2O ratio and also there is an expansion of 3dxy orbit of unpaired electron in the vanadium ion. The study of IR transmission spectra over a range 400-4000 cm−1 depicts the presence of WO6 group. The DC conductivity (σ) has been measured in the temperature range 423-623 K and is found to be predominantly ionic.  相似文献

In this study we probe the reaction of carbon monoxide with Pd nanoparticles supported on cerium oxide thin films. With the use of soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (sXPS), and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) the surface intermediates and pathways leading to reaction products of CO on Pd supported on ceria were investigated. When Pd is supported on the stoichiometric CeO2 surface (Ce+4) only the molecular adsorption of CO on Pd is visible (286.4 eV). All of the CO desorbs below 520 K, however a small amount of O exchange between the CO and the ceria was indicated through the acquisition of labeled 18O from the substrate in the desorbed CO. The Pd nanoparticles are activated on partially reduced CeOx to promote the dissociation of <10% of the CO as indicated by a C-Pd species (284.4 eV) in sXPS. The C recombines with O from the ceria and desorbs between 600 and 700 K. The majority of the CO does not dissociate, however, and the degree of dissociation does not increase with the degree of ceria reduction. This result is in contrast with Rh nanoparticles supported on ceria where the degree of dissociation increased with the degree of ceria reduction and nearly total dissociation was obtained when the ceria was highly reduced.  相似文献

The formation, stability and CO adsorption properties of PdAg/Pd(1 1 1) surface alloys were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and by adsorption of CO probe molecules, which was characterized by temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The PdAg/Pd(1 1 1) surface alloys were prepared by annealing (partly) Ag film covered Pd(1 1 1) surfaces, where the Ag films were deposited at room temperature. Surface alloy formation leads to a modification of the electronic properties, evidenced by core-level shifts (CLSs) of both the Pd(3d) and Ag(3d) signal, with the extent of the CLSs depending on both initial Ag coverage and annealing temperature. The role of Ag pre-coverage and annealing temperature on surface alloy formation is elucidated. For a monolayer Ag covered Pd(1 1 1) surface, surface alloy formation starts at ∼450 K, and the resulting surface alloy is stable upon annealing at temperatures between 600 and 800 K. CO TPD and HREELS measurements demonstrate that at 120 K CO is exclusively adsorbed on Pd surface atoms/Pd sites of the bimetallic surfaces, and that the CO adsorption behavior is dominated by geometric ensemble effects, with adsorption on threefold hollow Pd3 sites being more stable than on Pd2 bridge sites and finally Pd1 a-top sites.  相似文献

Chemisorption and thermal decomposition of metallorganic chemical vapor deposition precursors, (t-BuN)2W(NHBu-t)2, bis(tert-butylimido)bis(tert-butylamido)tungsten (BTBTT) and (t-BuN)2W(NEt2)2, bis(tert-butylimido)bis(diethylamido)tungsten (BTBDT), on Cu(1 1 1) have been investigated by means of thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) and synchrotron-based X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (SR-XPS) under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The precursors remain intact upon chemisorption on Cu(1 1 1) at 100 K, and at 300 K both precursors decompose readily via the characteristic hydride abstraction/elimination pathways to produce two stable surface intermediates for each precursor. For BTBTT, one species is W(=NBu-t)3 and the other is proposed to be a bridged amido complex, [(t-BuN)2W(μ-NBu-t)]2. In comparison, a W-imine complex and a W-N-C metallacycle are two intermediates produced from BTBDT. Annealing toward 800 K further decomposes the intermediates and the detectable desorption species are completely derived from the ligands. The desorption products from BTBTT include t-butylamine generated from α-H abstraction, isobutylene from γ-H elimination, acetonitrile from β-methyl elimination, and molecular hydrogen. In addition to these desorption species, BTBDT produces hydrogen cyanide and imine (EtN = CHMe) via β-H elimination, not possible with BTBTT due to the absence of β-H in the ligands. Eventually, tungsten nitrides incorporating oxygen atoms and a small amount of graphitic carbons are formed and the stoichiometry is approximated as WN1.5O0.1. Oxygen incorporation, driven by a large oxide formation enthalpy, is sensitively dependent on the moisture exposure in UHV environment.  相似文献

The oxidation of the W(1 0 0) surface at elevated temperatures has been studied using room temperature STM and LEED. High exposure of the clean surface to O2 at 1500 K followed by flash-annealing to 2300 K in UHV results in the formation of a novel p(3 × 1) reconstruction, which is imaged by STM as a missing-row structure on the surface. Upon further annealing in UHV, this surface develops a floreted LEED pattern characteristic of twinned microdomains of monoclinic WOx, while maintaining the p(3 × 1) missing-row structure. Atomically resolved STM images of this surface show a complex domain structure with single and double W〈0 1 0〉 rows coexisting on the surface in different domains.  相似文献

The thermal oxidation process of metallic zinc on 6H-SiC(0 0 0 1) surface has been investigated by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy (SRPES) and XPS methods. The AFM images characterize the surface morphology of ZnO film formed during the thermal oxidation and SRPES record the valence band, Si 2p and Zn 3d spectra at different stages. The O 1s peak is recorded by XPS because of the energy limit of the synchrotron radiation. Our results reveal that the silicon oxides layer of SiC substrate can be reduce by hot metallic zinc atom deposition. The oxygen atoms in the silicon oxides are captured by the zinc atoms to form ZnOx at the initial stage and as a result, the oxidized SiC surface are deoxidized. After the zinc deposition with the final thickness of 2.5 nm, the sample is exposed in oxygen atmosphere and annealed at different temperatures. According to the evolution of peaks integrated intensities, it is considered that the Zn/SiC system will lose zinc atoms during the annealing in oxygen flux at high temperature due to the low evaporation temperature of pure zinc. After further annealing in oxygen flux at higher temperature, the substrate is also oxidized and finally the interface becomes a stable SiC-SiOx-ZnO sandwich structure.  相似文献

The synthesis of tungsten oxide films with large surface area is promising for gas sensing applications. Thin WOx films were obtained by radio-frequency assisted pulsed laser deposition (RF-PLD). A tungsten target was ablated at 700 and 900 Pa in reactive oxygen, or in a 50% mixed oxygen-helium atmosphere at the same total pressure values. Corning glass was used as substrate, at temperatures including 673, 773 and 873 K. Other deposition parameters such as laser fluence (4.5 J cm−2), laser wavelength (355 nm), radiofrequency power (150 W), target to substrate distance (4 cm), laser spot area (0.7 mm2), and number of laser shots (12,000) were kept fixed. The sensitivity on the deposition conditions of morphology, nanostructure, bond coordination, and roughness of the obtained films were analyzed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy.  相似文献

Interactions between oxygen and Pd-surfaces have important implications, especially towards oxidation reactions, and influence of subsurface oxygen to oxidation reactions is the focus of the present study. In our efforts to understand the above aspects, CO oxidation reactions have been carried out with mixed molecular beam (MB), consisting CO and O2, on Pd(1 1 1) surfaces under a wide variety of conditions (T = 400-900 K, CO:O2 = 7:1 to 1:10). A new aspect of the above reaction observed in the transient kinetics regime is the evidence for oxygen diffusion into Pd subsurface layers, and its significant influence towards CO oxidation at high temperatures (≥600 K). Interesting information derived from the above studies is the necessity to fill up the subsurface layers with oxygen atoms to a threshold coverage (θO-sub), above which the reactive CO adsorption occurs on the surface and simultaneous CO2 production begins. There is also a significant time delay (Γ) observed between the onset of oxygen adsorption and CO adsorption (and CO2 production). Above studies suggest an electronic decoupling of oxygen covered surface and subsurface layers, which is slightly oxidized, from the metallic bulk, which induces CO adsorption at high temperatures and simultaneous oxidation to CO2.  相似文献

The adsorption and thermal chemistry of γ-butyrolactone (GBL) on the (1 1 1) surface of Pd and Pt has been investigated using a combination of high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). HREELS results indicate that GBL adsorbs at 160 K on both surfaces through its oxygenate functionality. On Pd(1 1 1), adsorbed GBL undergoes ring-opening and decarbonylation by 273 K to produce adsorbed CO and surface hydrocarbon species. On Pt(1 1 1), very little dissociation is observed using HREELS, with almost all of the GBL simply desorbing. TPD results are consistent with decarbonylation and subsequent dehydrogenation reactions on Pd(1 1 1), although small amounts of CO2 are also detected. TPD results from Pt(1 1 1) indicate that a small proportion of adsorbed GBL (perhaps on defect sites) does undergo ring-opening to produce CO, CO2, and H2. These results suggest that the primary dissociation pathway for GBL on Pd(1 1 1) is through O-C scission at the carbonyl position. Through comparisons with previously published studies of cyclic oxygenates, these results also demonstrate how ring strain and functionality affect the ring-opening rate and mechanism.  相似文献

We have investigated the structure and growth of Pd and BaO containing nanoparticles sequentially co-deposited on an ordered Al2O3/NiAl(1 1 0) by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and their interaction with CO and NO2 by infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS).Ba deposition and subsequent oxidation result in BaxAl2yOx+3y nanoparticles being formed which are characterized by high particle densities and nucleation both on regular terraces and at oxide defects. In contrast, Pd interaction with the model support is weaker and preferential nucleation occurs mainly at rotational domain boundaries and to a lesser extent at anti-phase domain boundaries. For subsequent co-deposition of Pd on preformed BaxAl2yOx+3y/Al2O3/NiAl(1 1 0), Pd nucleates at the BaxAl2yOx+3y nanoparticles and covers them. The reverse deposition sequence, i.e. subsequent Ba co-deposition and oxidation on preformed Pd/Al2O3/NiAl(1 1 0), leads to formation of small isolated BaxAl2yOx+3y nanoparticles without contact to Pd, together with large Pd crystallites modified by BaxAl2yOx+3y. The present results provide control over the degree of interaction between metal nanoparticles and oxide nanoparticles on a well-defined model catalyst and thus allow us to study effects related effects on the reactivity and catalytic behavior.  相似文献

Small Pd clusters Pdn (n = 1, 4, 7, 10, 13) deposited on alumina/NiAl(110) at room temperature were examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), as-deposited and after exposure to O2 at temperatures ranging from 100 to 500 K. After O2 exposure at 100 K, the Pd clusters showed XPS shifts indicative of oxidation. The exception was Pd4, which did not oxidize under any conditions. The inertness of Pd4/alumina/NiAl(110) appears to be correlated with a significantly higher-than-expected Pd 3d binding energy, which we attribute to a particularly stable valence shell. None of the clusters examined oxidized during O2 exposures at 300 K or above, but He+ scattering showed that oxygen was bound on the cluster surfaces. Upon heating, all the oxygen associated with these small clusters appeared to spill over and react with the alumina/NiAl(110) support.  相似文献

Au/TiO2/Ru(0 0 0 1) model catalysts and their interaction with CO were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy and different surface spectroscopies. Thin titanium oxide films were prepared by Ti deposition on Ru(0 0 0 1) in an O2 atmosphere and subsequent annealing in O2. By optimizing the conditions for deposition and post-treatment, smooth films were obtained either as fully oxidized TiO2 or as partly reduced TiOx, depending on the preparation conditions. CO adsorbed molecularly on both oxidized and reduced TiO2, with slightly stronger bonding on the reduced films. Model catalyst surfaces were prepared by depositing submonolayer quantities of Au on the films and characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy. From X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, a weak interaction between the Au and the TiO2 substrate was found. At 100 K CO adsorption occurred on both the TiO2 film and on the Au nanoparticles. CO desorbed from the Au particles with activation energies between 53 and 65 kJ/mol, depending on the Au coverage. If the Au deposit was annealed to 770 K prior to CO exposure, the CO adsorption energy decreased significantly. STM measurements revealed that the Au particles grow upon annealing, but are not encapsulated by TiOx suboxides. The higher CO adsorption energy observed for smaller Au coverages and before annealing is attributed to a significantly stronger interaction of CO with mono- and bilayer Au islands, while for higher particles, the adsorption energy becomes more bulk-like. The implications of these effects on the known particle size effects in CO oxidation over supported Au/TiO2 catalysts are discussed.  相似文献

RuSex electrocatalytic nanoparticles were deposited onto hybrid carriers composed of Black Pearl carbon-supported tungsten oxide; and the resulting system's electrochemical activity was investigated during oxygen reduction reaction. The tungsten oxide-utilizing and RuSex nanoparticle-containing materials were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and electrochemical diagnostic techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and rotating ring-disk voltammetry. Application of Black Pearl carbon carriers modified with ultra-thin films of WO3 as matrices (supports) for RuSex catalytic centers results during electroreduction of oxygen in 0.5 mol dm−3 H2SO4 (under rotating disk voltammetric conditions) in the potential shift of ca. 70 mV towards more positive values relative to the behavior of the analogous WO3-free system. Also the percent formation (at ring in the rotating ring-disk voltammetry) of the undesirable hydrogen peroxide has been decreased approximately twice by utilizing WO3-modified carbon carriers. The results are consistent with the bifunctional mechanism in which oxygen reduction is initiated at RuSex centers and the hydrogen peroxide intermediate is reductively decomposed at reactive WO3-modified Black Pearl supports. The electrocatalytic activity of the system utilizing WO3-modified Black Pearl supports has been basically unchanged upon addition of acetic acid, formic acid or methyl formate to the sulfuric acid supporting electrolyte.  相似文献
