A nonlinear equation of motion of an overdamped oscillator exhibiting a glass-like transition at a critical coupling constant c is presented and solved exactly. Below c , in the fluid phase, the oscillator coordinatex(t) decays to zero, while above c , in the amorphous phase, it decays to a nonzero infinite time limit. Near c the motion is slowed down by a nonlinear feedback mechanism andx(t) decays exponentially to its long time limit with a relaxation time diverging as (1 – / c )–3/2 and (/ c –1)–1 for < c and > c respectively. At c x(t) exhibits a power law decay proportional tot with exponent -1/2.  相似文献

A one-parameter family of piecewise-linear discontinuous maps, which bifurcates from a periodic state of periodm, (m=2, 3,...) to an intermittent chaos, is studied as a new model for the onset of turbulence via intermittency. The onset of chaos of this model is due to the excitation of an infinite number of unstable periodic orbits and hence differs from Pomeau-Manneville's mechanism, which is a collapse of a pair of stable and unstable periodic orbits. The invariant density, the time-correlation function, and the power spectrum are analytically calculated for an infinite sequence of values of the bifurcation parameter which accumulate to the onset point c from the chaos side - c > 0. The power spectrum near=0 is found to consist of a large number of Lorentzian lines with two dominant peaks. The highest peak lies around frequency=2/m with the power-law envelope l/¦-(2/m)¦4. The second-highest peak lies around o = 0 with the envelope l/¦¦2. The width of each line decreases as, and the separation between lines decreases as/lg3–1. It is also shown that the Liapunov exponent takes the form-/m and the mean lifetime of the periodic state in the intermittent chaos is given bym –1(ln –1+1).  相似文献

The influence of compression on the edge of self absorption of AgBr single crystals was studied. The measurements were performed at a temperature of –180°C. The shift of the edge of self absorption was studied both in the field of elastic and plastic deformations. The shift of the absorption edge towards the UV end of the spectrum was determined in the field of elastic deformations and towards the i.r. end in the field of plastic deformations. After the ending of the deformation and after unloading the crystal the return of the absorption edge towards the original position was observed.

Third order harmonic mixing voltageE 0 in case of frequency matching, =21=0, and third order pseudo harmonic mixing currentj() in the detuned case, 0, are evaluated for the one-dimensional Fukuyama-Lee-Rice model for weakly pinned charge density waves in the region of sub-threshold bias electric fields. After a perturbation expansion of the phase response to the ac driving fields the impurity averaging is performed diagrammatically. Specific statistical properties of the charge density wave phase in the weak pinning limit and a non-trivial result for the pinning of the static phase are utilized to expressE 0 andj() in terms of the dielectric function (). A recent evaluation of () within the self-consistent Born approximation is used to present the results explicitly in a number of diagrams. In comparison to the overdamped anharmonic oscillator the following differences are found: Randomness leads to interference contributions which increase the amplitudes and decrease the phase shifts. The more realistic form for () at lower frequencies lead to a downward shift in the maximum ofj() when 1 is decreased below the cross-over frequency c . The present theory retains inertia in the dynamical equations and remains valid for frequencies near and above the pinning frequency. It fails, however, for small frequencies 1 c due to the neglect of metastable states and screening.  相似文献

In the simplest coupling of a harmonic oscillator with a massless boson field, we show that a family of coupling functions leads to resonances or bound-states of the form E n1 n0()=n 1 z 1()+n 0 z 0(), where z 1(), z 0() are in and n 1, n 0 are any nonnegative integers. A variety of rigorous inequalities for critical exponents is proved. Most notable is the low-temperature Josephson inequalitydv +2 2–. The influence of a strong high-frequency field on the stratification of the positive column of a D-C glow discharge
An experimental study is made of the damping of moving striations in a d-c glow discharge by a strong high-frequency field. The results of measurement are in agreement with existing conceptions on the production and mechanism of propagation of moving striations. Apart from the process of damping the paper also describes the standing stratification of the positive column of a d-c discharge as a result of a superposed high-frequency discharge.

Third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities of different crystals have been measured relative to LiNbO3 by observing collinear phase-matched difference frequency generation 1=2 2 4. The two incident light waves have been produced by a ruby laser ( 2, 2=694.3 nm) and by induced Raman scattering ( 4, 4=765.8 nm). With noncollinear phase-matching the number of nonlinear processes and the possibilities to determine nonlinear coefficients is much larger than in the collinear case. Therefore the theory of Raman-type third order interactions has been extended to noncollinear propagation of the interacting waves. The theory has been tested experimentally for CdS.  相似文献

Cut-and-project sets with convex acceptance windows, based on irrationalities = (1+5), =1+2, =2+3 are models for experimentally observed quasicrystals – materials with diffraction patterns consisting of sharp Bragg peaks in crystallographically disallowed patterns. We show that for each of these three irrationalities there exists a unique binary operation of the type x s y:=sx+(1–s)y, such that one-dimensional cut-and-project sets are precisely Delone sets closed under this operation.  相似文献

A gas of two Boson systems coexisting inR 3, and interacting only mutually, is analyzed. The interaction is quadratic, so that the dynamical problem may be solved completely and exactly.The initial state is taken to be the mutually uncorrelated Gibbs states: (1) (2) = . We find the time evolved state, and its projections onto the separate species and the subvolumes.The principle consequences of this model are discussed. In type-II superconductors in the flux flow (J J c ), flux creep (J c J c ), and thermally activated flux flow (TAFF) (J J c ) regimes the inductionB(r,t), averaged over several penetration depths , in general follows from a nonlinear equation of motion into which enter the nonlinear resistivities (B, J ,T) caused by flux motion and (B, J ,T) caused by other dissipative processes.J andJ are the current densities perpendicular and parallel toB,B=|B|, andT is the temperature. For flux flow and TAFF in isotropic superconductors with weak relative spatial variation ofB, this equation reduces to the diffusion equation plus a correction term which vanishes whenJ =0 (this means B××B=0) or when = 0 (isotropic normal conductor). When this diffusion equation holds the material anisotropy may be accounted for by a tensorial . The response of a superconductor to an applied current or to a change of the applied magnetic field is considered for various geometries. Such perturbations affect only a surface layer of thickness where a shielding current flows which pulls at the flux lines; the resulting deformation of the vortex lattice diffuses into the interior until a new equilibrium or a new stationary state is reached. The a.c. response, in particular the frequency with maximum damping, depends thus on the geometry and size of the superconductor.  相似文献

The ultraslow motion of defects in high purity hexagonal H2O ice has been studied by proton dipolarT 1D measurements in the strong collision limit, using the Jeener technique. The obtained NMR correlation times agree rather well with both the Schottky H2O diffusion timest s=r 2/6D and the deuteron correlation times in D2O ice, suggesting that Schottky rather than interstitial diffusion dominates spin-lattice relaxation in both H2O and D2O ice.On leave of absence from University of Ljubljana, Institute J. We derive the exact matrix field theory for a replicated grassmannian representation of a local pairing superconducting disorder ensemble including three superconducting order parameters and the spin-flip pairbreaking mechanism. Disorder is assumed to be gaussian distributed. We find by exactly solving the saddle-point equation the criterion for a vanishing gap –1 + –1 , where denotes the averaged superconducting order parameter, –1 the spin-flip scattering rate, and –1 the scattering rate corresponding to correlations of Re(–). Taken at =0, our field theory, which is exact in all orders of –1 , contains new terms in addition to those of theO( –1 ) model derived by Efetov et al. Our formulation transfers correctly to all orders the invariances of the action into symmetries of the matrix field theory. The saddle point approximation is outlined and it is shown how singular corrections to the saddle point density of states arise atE F in a gapless superconductor. Finally singular corrections in the two particle propagator, the density correlation function and the conductivity are calculated for =0 in one loop order. It turns out that these corrections can be entirely expressed by those of the single particle density of states.  相似文献

Localised configurations of the free electromagnetic field are constructed, possessing properties of massive, spinning, relativistic particles. In an inertial frame, each configuration travels in a straight line at constant speed, less than the speed of lightc, while slowly spreading. An attempt to produce a continuous creation theory by adapting the Brans-Dicke theory is described. The universe is seen to be created out of self-contained gravitational, scalar, and matter fields. However, the solution of the one-body problem reveals unsatisfactory characteristics of the theory, and in particular the principle of equivalence is severely violated. A second theory is described which retains the attractive features of the first theory and which does not fall foul of its objections. There do exist empirical tests for the theory which are described and which will require further examination. We report conductivity measurements on Cu x Ti100–x and Cu x Zr100–x glasses as a function of magnetic field (0B6T) and temperature (1.5–5. At low temperatures the measured conductivity(T,B)= 0+(T)+(B,T) is compared quantitatively with the predictions of diagrammatic perturbation theories including quantum interference effects, spin-orbit scattering and electron-electron interaction. We obtain a set of characteristic fields for inelastic and spin orbit scattering from both the magnetic field and the temperature dependence of the measured (T, B). Below about 4K the Coulomb interaction determines (T) in consistence with the Hall effect, whereas quantum interference processes and spin-orbit scattering dominate the magnetic field dependence. In case of Cu x Zr100–x , (B, T) can be explained by taking into account superconducting fluctuations (Maki-Thompson and Aslamasov-Larkin parts) in addition. Superconducting fluctuations dominate the temperature dependence as well. For high magnetic fields and lower temperatures (B/T>1T/K) we find discrepancies between experiment and calculations from perturbation theory.  相似文献
