The performance evaluation of AWG-based OADMs due to filter cascade in 10 Gb/s WDM metro core networks is presented. The penalty for the through optical channels is investigated versus the laser wavelength drift and OADM temperature stabilization failure. Results are measured and extrapolated with simulation results to obtain the maximum allowable number of OADMs in the metro network.  相似文献

The dimensions of input waveguide and output waveguide of arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) determine the crosstalk, insertion loss and 1-dB bandwidth. In cascaded optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs), the value of these parameters will largely affect the power penalty of system. The power penalty of cascaded OADMs is calculated with different waveguide dimensions of AWGs in this paper. A distributed access scheme using optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs) for long reach hybrid wavelength division multiplexing and time division multiplexing passive optical networks (WDM-TDM PONs) is proposed and demonstrated. Colorless operations are implemented by using commercially available reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) at both the center office (CO) and the customer side. Four 1.25-Gb/s channels are successfully transmitted over 80-km single-mode fiber with four OADMs. The dynamic input power range of the RSOA is also investigated. Compared with traditional access schemes, the proposed scheme could cover the area along the feed fiber with no blind zone. The experimental results show that it could be an ideal solution for the next generation access networks.  相似文献

Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers (OADMs) allow extracting and inserting data channels in WDM, user access and interconnection applications. A great interest is focused on building small footprint integrated OADMs, which can be achieved using compact ring resonators (RR). Free spectral range (FSR) values up to some tens of nanometers can be obtained by using RR with small radius or multi-stage configurations, but structural parameters are pushed to the limit in these configurations leading to very tight fabrication requirements. We propose and numerically study a novel configuration of RR-based OADM where the FSR is hugely increased to values higher than 140 nm by combining RRs with photonic bandgap structures, which remove the non-desired resonances inside the RR. Moreover, this structure can be hitless reconfigured, what is difficult to achieve in actual configurations.  相似文献

对三种不同结构的光纤光栅和环形器组成的光分插复用器的同频串扰进行了实验研究。实验表明,与常规的I型结构光分插复用器相比,Ⅱ型和Ⅲ型结构中由上载端泄漏到下载端的同频串扰分别减少了24.4dB和39.3dB,由下载端泄漏到上载端的同频串扰分别减少了23.6dB和24.6dB。  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated the wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) system using ring network topology. This network is used to increase the capacity with eight optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs) by using dispersion compensating fiber and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) to achieve a distance up to 1600 km. It is observed that network shows the acceptable results at 15 Gbps data rate with 100 GHz channel spacing. The OADM nodes are also varied to investigate the network performance in the term of BER and Q-factor.  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) hybrid (ring-tree-star) topology. Eight optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs) are used to make ring structure. The single mode fiber and dispersion compensating fiber and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) are employed between each OADM to achieve a maximum. To increase the number of users each OADM node of ring network is connected to star and tree network topology which can accommodate more than 2048 users. Various system parameters (for different channel spacing, different input power signal, different data rates and the fiber length) are varied to investigate the system performance in the term of BER and Q factor.  相似文献

In this paper, a design of a generic multipurpose device is described. It can operate, in its basic structure, as a tunable wavelength filter, wavelength multiplexer or λ router; by using a more complex structure, the device works as an optical add drop multiplexer (OADM) or/and optical switch (OS). It can be used in both coarse and dense wavelength division multiplexing technology (CWDM/DWDM) according to the network application. Performance parameters of the device, like switching time, losses, crosstalk or polarization insensitivity are analyzed and compared with other switching technologies. Some applications of the holographic WDM multifunction device in METRO networks are described, such as the utilization of OADMs in optical path protection/reconfiguration between nodes (1 + 1 configuration) and the use of optical switches to interconnect nodes of the METRO–access network with the METRO-Core or long haul networks in a reconfigurable topology. Other applications in Access networks are possible, like the use of the OADMs in optical path protection between the optical line termination (OLT) at the central office (CO) and the remote node (RN) in a fiber to the office passive-optical network (FTTO-PON) or, in some specific cases, the utilization as tuneable holographic filters in a FTTO application, at the Business ONT (BONT), to select the assigned optical wavelength according to the services provided to the customer.  相似文献

Metro Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) has been touted by its proponents as the future of optical telecommunications in the metro market. But is it? Its proponents have presented it as a natural extension of long haul DWDM into the metro network. But can Metro DWDM be cost justified and, if so, under what conditions? Whether and to what extent the economics of metro DWDM will change over time are other major questions certain to affect materially the acceptance of metro DWDM and thus the market opportunity for manufacturers of metro DWDM equipment. Storage area networks (SANs) are an essential part of enterprise computing today. There is no comprehensive business continuity plan without SANs in the picture. This paper proposes and evaluates network survivability of optical paths in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based storage area networks in a metro ring network. The paper begins with a background on network survivability in metro WDM ring network. Subsequently, the network and node architectures along with their medium access control (MAC) protocols are described. In this work, one link failure (a single cable cut) in metro WDM based SANs in a ring network architecture is considered. Performance evaluation for network survivability in metro WDM SAN is carried out by means of discrete-event computer simulation. Network throughput and packet delay are investigated. The network performance is evaluated for asymmetric (unbalanced) traffic scenarios under Poisson and self-similar traffic.  相似文献

This paper studies the impact of concatenated AWG routers of metro transparent network with directly modulated lasers (DML). The wide bandwidth and central frequency shift of the directly modulated laser entail a large signal penalty, thereby limiting the allowable number of AWG routers in a metro network. The degradation caused by the concatenation of passband-flattened AWG is much lower than that of the conventional round-top AWG of the same number. Therefore the passband-flattened AWG has the largest allowable number in the metro network based on DML.  相似文献

This paper examines the problem of subway induced vibrations on line 4 of Beijing metro, which is currently under construction and is planned to pass in close proximity of the Physics Laboratory of Beijing University. The laboratory has a lot of equipment that is very sensitive to traffic induced vibrations and future operation of metro line 4 is a matter of concern. Hence, it is important to study the influence of subway induced vibrations inside the laboratory and to propose a viable solution to mitigate the vibrations. In this paper, the tunnel north of Chengfulu station is modelled using a coupled periodic FE-BE model and the free-field response due to moving trains is predicted. In addition, vibration measurements have been performed on the site of the Physics Laboratory to estimate the existing vibration levels due to road traffic. The predicted and measured vibrations are superimposed to assess the vibrations due to the combined effect of road and railway traffic in the vicinity of the Physics Laboratory. Apart from the numerical investigations, vibration measurements have also been performed on a similar site at line 1 of Beijing metro to substantiate the estimated results on metro line 4. Finally, it is studied how the vibrations can be controlled using a floating slab track, which is widely used as an effective measure of vibration isolation in tunnels. The efficiency of a 7.9 Hz floating slab track as a vibration countermeasure is assessed in this paper. This study demonstrates the applicability of the numerical model for the relevant assessment of subway induced vibrations and its use to study the performance of different track structures in the tunnel.  相似文献

Transportation systems, being real-life examples of networks, are particularly interesting to analyze from the viewpoint of the new and rapidly emerging field of network science. Two particular concepts seem to be particularly relevant: scale-free patterns and small-worlds. By looking at 33 metro systems in the world, this paper adapts network science methodologies to the transportation literature, and offers one application to the robustness of metros; here, metro refers to urban rail transit with exclusive right-of-way, whether it is underground, at grade or elevated. We find that most metros are indeed scale-free (with scaling factors ranging from 2.10 to 5.52) and small-worlds; they show atypical behaviors, however, with increasing size. In particular, the presence of transfer-hubs (stations hosting more than three lines) results in relatively large scaling factors. The analysis provides insights/recommendations for increasing the robustness of metro networks. Smaller networks should focus on creating transfer stations, thus generating cycles to offer alternative routes. For larger networks, few stations seem to detain a certain monopole on transferring, it is therefore important to create additional transfers, possibly at the periphery of city centers; the Tokyo system seems to remarkably incorporate these properties.  相似文献

In this paper we have developed a methodology for the medium-term prediction of daily volumes of passenger traffic in the Moscow metro. It includes three options for the forecast: (1) based on artificial neural networks (ANNs), (2) singular-spectral analysis implemented in the Caterpillar–SSA package, and (3) a combination of the ANN and Caterpillar–SSA approaches. The methods and algorithms allow the mediumterm forecasting of passenger traffic flows in the Moscow metro with reasonable accuracy.  相似文献

We are developing an optical layer-2s witch network that uses both wavelength-division multiplexing and time-division multiplexing technologies for efficient traffic aggregation in metro networks.For efficient traffic aggregation,path bandwidth control is key because it strongly affects bandwidth efficiency.For this paper,we propose a dynamic time-slot allocation method that uses periodic information of difference values of traffic variation.This method can derive near-optimal allocation with lower computational cost,which enlarges the maximum available network size compared with conventional time-slot allocation methods.Numerical results show that the proposed method enables dynamic path control in 1K-node-scale optical layer-2s witch network,which leads to cost-effective metro networks.  相似文献
