The transmission and luminescence spectra of a cholesteric photonic crystal doped with an organic dye are measured. The density of photon states is calculated using the material parameters obtained from the comparison of the experimental and theoretical spectra. The shape of the luminescence spectra is modified with respect to the density of photon states owing to the difference in the structure of the normal modes of the photonic crystal near the short-wavelength and long-wavelength edges of the photonic quasi-band gap upon the “pushing” of the photon states from the gap and to the nonvanishing orientation ordering of the luminescent molecules. The luminescence spectrum calculated taking into account the chiral structure of the photonic crystal agrees with the experimental spectrum. 相似文献

The spectra of secondary emission of a globular photonic crystal such as the opal matrix filled with the POPOP aromatic compound (a known luminophore) and initial materials excited by semiconductor light-emitting diodes were studied. It was found that the luminescence spectrum of opal filled with POPOP significantly differs from luminescence spectra of POPOP itself and initial opal. It was shown that the observed luminescence in the visible region is mostly caused by three-photon parametric light scattering. In this case, the spectral shape is controlled by the photon density of states, differing from the photon density of states of pure opal. The shape of the secondary emission spectrum of artificial opal filled with POPOP was calculated. The effect of the photonic bandgap position on the intensity distribution of spontaneous emission of used luminophore was established. 相似文献

The oblique propagation of light through a layer of chiral photonic crystal (PC) with linear profiles of modulation parameters is considered. The problem is solved by the method of Ambartsumyan layer addition. The wavelength dependences of the amplitude characteristics have been studied at different angles of incidence in two cases, i.e., in a chiral PC with a linear profile of modulation period and a chiral PC with a linear profile of modulation depth. It is shown that the photonic band gap is broadened in both cases and that omnidirectional reflection occurs under certain conditions. The nonreciprocity features are investigated for these two cases and it is shown that a chiral PC with a linear profile of modulation period can operate as an ideal optical diode in a certain frequency range. The features of the effect of change in the modulation parameters on the photon density of states, group velocity, and group velocity dispersion are analyzed. It is shown that, when the modulation parameters change in space, the photon density of states at the photonic band gap edges significantly decreases. It is proposed to use PCs with a spatially changing modulation period can be used to compress (expand) light pulses. 相似文献

在对称的均匀电介质材料光子晶体体系中插入另一折射率渐变的光子晶体可构成光量子阱结构.利用时域有限差分法计算了不同折射率分布光量子阱结构的传输谱.研究表明:束缚态是对处于垒光子晶体禁带中的阱光子晶体导通带的离散化,束缚态能级个数等于阱光子晶体结构单元的重复周期数;以渐变方式调整阱区折射率分布,可在特定频率范围内得到新的互不交叠的束缚态.这样在有限的禁带区域可以成倍增加光子束缚态而无需增大光量子阱结构的尺寸,使信道密度最大化、光波有效带宽的使用最优化.这种量子阱结构可用于制作超窄带滤波器和多通道窄带滤波器,有望在光通信超密集波分复用和光学精密测量技术中获得广泛应用.

Quantum electrodynamics of atom spontaneous emission from a three-dimensional photonic crystal is studied in a full vectorial framework. The electromagnetic fields are quantized via solving the eigenproblem of photonic crystals with use of a plane-wave expansion method. It is found that the photon density of states and local density of states (LDOS) with a full band gap vary slowly near the edge of band gap, in significant contrast to the singular character predicted by the previous isotropic model. Therefore, the spontaneous emission can be solved by conventional Weisskopf-Wigner approximate theory, which yields a pure exponentially decaying behavior with a rate proportional to the LDOS. 相似文献

研究了双带型光子晶体中双V型四能级原子自发辐射的辐射谱.双V型四能级原子同时与真空热库和双带型光子晶体热库耦合.研究发现双V型四能级原子自发辐射谱中有三种不同原因可能引起的黑线:第一种是由于量子干涉效应;第二种是由于各向同性光子晶体带边处态密度具有奇异性;第三种是真空场中的量子干涉和光子晶体禁带内态密度为零共同作用的结果.通过移动光子晶体的带边位置,在各向同性光子晶体带边引入光滑因子,以及在光子晶体中引入缺陷等对这三种黑线的影响,对上述结果进行了分析和讨论.

The entanglement of a two-level atom with its spontaneously emitted photon embedded in double-band anisotropic photonic crystal has been investigated via the method of the quantum entropy. Different from the case in an isotropic crystal or in vacuum, the entanglement has symmetrical properties and much slower entanglement rate near the two band edges. Moreover, as a result of the atom-photon bound states by the virtue of the localization around the emitting atom, the degree of the entanglement gradually increases, achieves the maximum and then sharply reduces to zero on the boundary of forbidden band gap as the atomic frequency moves from the center of the band gap to either of the band edges. 相似文献

二维光子晶体只有赝带隙,因此能否利用二维光子晶体有效控制原子自发辐射是令人感兴趣也是有实际意义的问题。其中最重要的因素是态密度和局域态密度的性质。采用平面波展开结合晶体群论的方法计算了二维正方格子光子晶体的态密度和局域态密度。其中散射子为空气圆柱,放置在均匀的电介质背景上。结果显示两个特点:第一,总态密度和局域态密度在原来二维光子晶体赝带隙处虽然已经不为零,但是取值明显低于赝带隙范围之外的值,即存在一个准光子带隙。第二,局域态密度在空气散射子界面处发生突变,空气散射子区域的局域态密度相对较大,这可由电位移矢量的连续性来理解。由于这两个特点在其他二维光子晶体中也被发现过,它们可能是普遍存在的。 相似文献

We use single self-assembled InGaAs quantum dots as internal probes to map the local density of optical states of photonic crystal membranes. The employed technique separates contributions from nonradiative recombination and spin-flip processes by properly accounting for the role of the exciton fine structure. We observe inhibition factors as high as 70 and compare our results to local density of optical states calculations available from the literature, thereby establishing a quantitative understanding of photon emission in photonic crystal membranes. 相似文献

Observation of trapped light induced by Dwarf Dirac-cone in out-of-plane condition for photonic crystals 下载免费PDF全文
Existence of out-of-plane conical dispersion for a triangular photonic crystal lattice is reported. It is observed that conical dispersion is maintained for a number of out-of-plane wave vectors(k_z). We study a case where Dirac like linear dispersion exists but the photonic density of states is not vanishing, called Dwarf Dirac cone(DDC) which does not support localized modes. We demonstrate the trapping of such modes by introducing defects in the crystal. Interestingly, we find by k-point sampling as well as by tuning trapped frequency that such a conical dispersion has an inherent light confining property and it is governed by neither of the known wave confining mechanisms like total internal reflection, band gap guidance. Our study reveals that such a conical dispersion in a non-vanishing photonic density of states induces unexpected intense trapping of light compared with those at other points in the continuum. Such studies provoke fabrication of new devices with exciting properties and new functionalities. 相似文献

用平面波展开法研究了太赫兹(THz)波在二维三角晶格光子晶体中的传输特性。数值计算了以硅为背景的空气圆柱构成的二维三角晶格光子晶体的能带结构和态密度,计算表明在介质圆柱半径r=0.47a(a为空气介质柱的晶格常数)出现最大完全光子带隙,带隙宽度为0.070 1 THz;当r=0.49a和r=0.45a时,E偏振和H偏振分别出现最大光子带隙,带隙宽度分别0.102 2,0.192 3 THz。光子晶体能态密度的分布也表明了存在光子带隙的范围。研究结果为THz器件的开发提供了理论依据。 相似文献

The selective reflection spectra of films prepared from the photonic crystal, i.e., synthetic opal, are investigated. It is revealed that the refractive index changes at the boundaries of the photonic band gap. The wave vector is renormalized as a result of the interaction of the light wave with the periodic structure of the crystal, and the dependence of the frequency on the photon wave vector deviates from a linear behavior. The band gap determined from these data is approximately equal to 1.7 × 1014 Hz. 相似文献

A disordered photonic crystal with spectral degeneracies in the form of Dirac nodes is considered. Disorder can create a random gap at the Dirac nodes, which leads to the formation of random edge modes. We study the distribution of these edge modes and find from symmetry considerations that the discrete anisotropy of the photonic crystal is spontaneously broken for the propagation of photons from a local photon source. This effect can be understood as the spontaneous creation of a ray mode or as the creation of a one‐dimensional waveguide in a two‐dimensional photonic crystal through strong random scattering. The phenomenon must be distinguished from Anderson localization of photons in a single band crystal and can be considered as angular localization, since it creates geometric states rather than confining the photons to an area of the size of the localization length. The propagation of the photon intensity is described by a Fokker‐Planck equation, whose drift term is determined by the spectrum of the photonic crystal near the Dirac node. 相似文献

We calculated the local density of state for various positions in a photonic crystal of honeycomb lattice to study how the
spontaneous emission rate of a radiating dipole is altered in the presence of the photonic crystal. The local density of states
is found to be position-sensitive and its value can be enhanced or depressed relative to the density of states, depending
on the location of the dipole. Our study shows that the density of states tends to underestimate the effect of a photonic
crystal on the prohibition of light propagation, while on the contrary tends to overestimate the effect on the enhancement
of light emission. The calculations also indicate that it is possible to tailor the spontaneous emission of an active medium
by careful selecting its location in the photonic crystal. The results are helpful in determining the insertion location of
the active medium and in evaluating the efficiency of active photonic crystal devices such as light-emitting diodes or lasers. 相似文献

In the first part of this introductory review we outline the developments in photonic band gap materials from the physics of photonic band gap formation to the fabrication and potential applications of photonic crystals. We briefly describe the analogies between electron and photon localization, present a simple model of a band structure calculation and describe some of the techniques used for fabricating photonic crystals. Also some applications in the field of photonics and optical circuitry are briefly presented. In the second part, we discuss the consequences for the interaction between an atom and the light field when the former is embedded in photonic crystals of a specific type, exhibiting a specific form of a gap in the density of states. We first briefly review the standard treatment (Weisskopf?–?Wigner theory) in describing the dynamics of spontaneous emission in free space from first principles, and then proceed by explaining the alterations needed to properly treat the case of a two-level atom embedded in a photonic band gap material. 相似文献
